lol, yeah it was. The present I had held was indeed the Hyrule Historia, but even better, there were three other presents she had gotten me. I was surprised, I figured after she bought me a New 3DS that would be it, but here I was with five presents, six if you count the two games being in one bag as two.

So for the three presents besides the Hyrule Historia and the games, she also bought me:

  • Doctor Who Monsters Gift Set (bunch of Dalek and Cybermen episodes and a 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver/Pen), neat little collectible for my shelf.

  • A Solgaleo 3DS XL case, which, despite having a standard size 3DS is really nice and gives me something to hold a ton of my games in. Only complaint I have is that there's no space for a charger like other cases, but it's awesome as Solgaleo was the entire reason I bought Pokemon Sun and the stylus that comes with it (while maybe not my style) is great and much better to use than the small N3DS stylus.

  • Last present was a Reese's Peanut Butter cup two-mug-set. Came with some candy and I love Reese's (even once bought a coffee thermos when I had a trip to Chicago in high school because I liked it so much), so the mugs are pretty cool.

Was a great Christmas. I couldn't be happier.

I've poured through the Hyrule Historia a couple times now. Lots of cool artwork in it.

I think I can do that for ya, honestly. I also have, for the left joystick, little caps that make grip better if that interests you too. Maybe private message me I suppose, get this goin!

Edit: and no purchasing, they're so silly cheap, I got it n the postage etc..

Edit 2: This is the left joystick cover, could hook you up with one of those. I honestly love it. Long gaming sessions are perfect for this seemingly simple and pointless lil' grip.

Edit 3: And this is the c-stick replacement. Someone else linked it above as well, but yeah, the psp-1,000 joystick or whatever. Works really great.

Edit 4: Since I'm really gettin down on all this N3DS speak, I'd like to share this as well. My goodness, it makes gaming 1,000x better. Since the grips are not directly under the 3DS, and they are almost basically on the sides, it makes it feel like a legit, comfortable ass videogame controller! (In the vein of an Xbox or PS4 controller) With how I said the grips are on the sides, it makes it not feel so damn cramped like some of the other N3DS grips can. It's seriously so, SO worth the $15 bucks.

u/cranmerabacus · 0 pointsr/3DS

I bought these and they arrived today; this is the newer version of the product that you purchased. I had no issues getting them on my analog slider; they may not seem to fit at first glance and first touch, as it does take a bit of pressure and force to get them to fit properly, but after applying a fair bit of pressure onto them they will go on and stay on, and they work excellently (I have an original 3DS by the way (not XL nor new). I don't know if the newer 3DS versions have bigger sliders or not, but these seem to be made for the New 3DS yet fit fine on my old, non-XL version. They are fantastic; I use the grip with the various dots on it, and it really allows me to grip the slider extremely well. I don't have to worry about my thumb sliding off of the slider as I had to do before; using these also has greatly increased the precision with which I can use the slider stick. I can now make very subtle moves of the stick very easily with the grip. All in all, I would recommend the newer version of these grips, as they have done an excellent job of increasing the control and precision I have over my slider stick and have completely eliminated the previous soreness that my thumb would have after a 3DS playing session. I think that they are a necessity for any hardcore 3DS player who plays often.

  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

Links for all the items I got for your reference:

Not sure where you're located if Amazon/Gamestop/Ebay are good choices for you? I've found that using the lock on/button to center on the monster is immensely helpful, both for making sure I know where it is and for maintaining the critical distance.

I think practice is really the best thing! Sometimes I've taken quite a long time to take down a monster simply because I took time to watch its moves and dodged around until I felt comfortable with its attacks. I picked up adept style for a few fights because the dodge is much more forgiving once you know where to dodge (With a great free charge rank up/power shot!).

If you're having trouble with the weapon itself there are really great videos up on youtube and guides online (and here) for different approaches. Again, it really depends on your playstyle. At a glance and a quick search, this page seemed helpful! http://laxgg.blogspot.com/p/mhgen-bow-mechanics.html

It also might help to have a protection/healer palico that has taunt and some heals for you if you're struggling with item management or aggro from the monster. As someone that plays LS offline and LBG/bow online, sometimes its harder when you don't have other hunters keeping it busy lol. You do have a pretty large chunk of time to complete your hunts so don't feel rushed that you can't watch the monster.

I've had my original black 3DS since 2012. Loved it a lot, it's the system that really got me into gaming. Recently I've been pretty tempted to get a N3DSXL, probably that sweet SNES one that Amazon has for $150. Question is, how much could I get for my old one? I'd be selling:

- black original 3DS, pretty good condition except for some wear on the top screen from the bottom rubbing against it. The SD card has been boosted to a 32GB one. (it's a regular size, I'll have to get a new mini one for the N3DSXL)

- the charger and charging dock

- the 6 AR cards

- small cloth sleeve that it fits in

- Mario Kart 7 wheel

- the case, screen protectors, and earbuds from this starter pack

- the Amazing Spider-Man 3DS game

Thoughts on price? Could I get $100 for all of that?

u/mrhacksit · 1 pointr/smashbros

Don't buy a new controller, clean/ fix your existing one. It will cost a lot less (~15$) and you will be able to clean/fix all of your other controllers as well. May sound weird because I'm telling you to fix your existing one but don't buy replacement joysticks... the rubber will just fall off on those too... =[ Ive wasted some $ on shitty "replacement" joysticks that don't even last a day. Buy 1 pack of these [ **.com/Cyber-%E3%83%BBPremium-Slide-Cover-Clear-Black/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=sr_1_1?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1479033751&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+circle+pad+cover ] and glue it to your joystick. I used an epoxy resin because i figured it would do the best gluing plastic on plastic but super glue would probably work too. You should still buy a tri-wing screwdriver [ ***.com/Gen-Lite-Tri-Wing-Triwing-Screwdriver-Tool/dp/B000VPBYS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479034061&sr=8-1&keywords=triwing+screwdriver ] and some wet-wipes to get inside the controller and clean up a bit. Mine works like brand new but even better because the joystick will never wear down. I'll never part with my original orange GC controller >.<

I guess the moderators dont want people posting links so they deleted my original post... lol anyways just replace "****" with "https://www.amazon" if you want to see those items

u/IICVX · 1 pointr/gaming
  1. If you bought the 3DS at launch, it must've been because you really wanted to play those launch titles right?
  2. Look, you paid $80 for an extra six months of Steel Diver. If it wasn't worth it, that's kinda on you; it's not like there were any surprises in the launch title lineup.
  3. That was a little shitty of them, but it was more than a year after launch and the 3DS had resonated surprisingly well with an older demographic, who'd appreciate a larger screen and larger controls.
  4. If you ever believed that the 3D was essential, there's something wrong with you. There's maybe one game that actually used it well, and nobody can agree which game it was.
  5. It's been 4 years since the original. That's a pretty normal time for a new hardware cycle; the gap between the 360/PS3 and XBone/PS4 gave people inflated expectations. If you really care that much about the c-stick and ZL/ZR buttons, you can pick up a circle pad pro, and I'm not sure why you think the microSD slot is new because my 3DS XL definitely has one, as did my DSi.

The moral of the story: don't buy consoles at launch unless you really, really want to play a launch title. It's not worth it. It's never worth it.
u/mad5427 · 1 pointr/3DS

Thanks for the response. I found these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07286FXB7?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd

The price was right. They are Amazon prime. They fit perfectly and provide a replacement for the white model, black model, and a nice red one that goes nicely with a couple faceplates.

This has been what I have been looking for. I have received them and verified that they fit perfectly into the non-XL sized New 3DS and shipped super quick stateside.

u/TheGershon · 1 pointr/TwoBestFriendsPlay

As a fellow 3DS owner I highly recommend getting a grip accessory of some kind. I have a n3DSxl and got the official, Japan only monster Hunter grip and it's simply amazing. It's almost as good as any console controller, hopefully there's a good one for n2DSxl (I hate these acronyms). Also, I really like these circle pad covers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WLs1CbSHQJ76G

Also also, I recommend installing cfw. It's easy to do and you get a lot of benefits that aren't just piracy like custom themes that can cycle, increasing the CPU clock speed which makes games like MGS3 3D much more playable, and installing game mods that even work with carts. No, you won't actually get banned from online unless you try to play a game online that hasn't officially been released yet (and it's still circumventable regardless)

I was in a similar situation as you when I picked up one of Nintendo's refurbished N3DS systems last month. I was coming from a N3DS XL and had the Cyber Gadget grip for that; which I loved. Unfortunately, I found that tracking down non-XL N3DS accessories was not very easy. Additionally, I found that the Cyber Gadget version of the non-XL grip was outrageously expensive for what it was and couldn't be found anywhere from a non-3rd party seller. I checked just about everywhere from Amazon to eBay to PlayAsia, but no luck. I even tried Amazon Japan but no luck there either. I eventually just bit the bullet and decided to purchase one of the cheap ones on Amazon (this one). It isn't perfect, but for the price, I would buy it again and recommend it. It does its job of making the system easier to hold for longer play sessions which is exactly what I needed. Hope this helps!

u/andysaurus_rex · 1 pointr/3DS

To be clear, you are getting the New 3DS XL?

As far as games go, either ORAS or Pokemon X/Y are good options. You might also like Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds. It's an adventure RPG, but it's top down style like old Zelda games and pokemon games. Fantasy Life is also a good choice.

As far as 3DS XL accessories, I recommend these. They come in a few different colors too. Also, this grip is a life saver. My hands tend to cramp up when holding the 3DS XL, but this grip eliminates that problem.

As for just generally good games, Mario Kart 7 is good, Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I'm not as well versed in DS games.

u/squirrelyscout · 4 pointsr/3DS

A few different products like these exist, where you place them over the circle pad. You have to be careful to remove it with each use and to not close the system with them on.
You could also completely open up the system and replace the pad with one of your choosing, like this.

Be cautious of using anything sticky, like bandaids or circles of velcro. Some adhesives leave icky residue that's hard to safely remove.

There's really no perfectly safe or easy solution other than pausing your battle and wiping your hand off a lot. :/

u/Tegakari · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

These are the ones that I bought a few months back.

Cyber ・Premium Slide Pad Cover New 3ds / New 3ds Ll / 3ds Ll /3ds Clear Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_7do1wbDSGA0CN

The ones you linked were slightly more expensive than the ones I bought, so I avoided them. Ergo, I can't vouch for them :/. The ones I linked are pretty good though! Definitely an improvement, although the thumb slips will still happen after an hour or two of play. I highly recommend keeping some sort of small towel on standby just to wipe off the sticks and your hands in between hunts.

u/CyborgDragon · 5 pointsr/3DS

For battery life, I plan on getting CTA's portable docking station (cradle, as Nintendo calls it) slash external power supply. The portable docking station holds enough to more than double the 3DS's battery lifespan. (Apparently it holds enough to fully charge the 3DS from a dead state plus an additional ~30 minutes on power saving off, max 3D, max sound, and max lighting). Unlike the NYKO extended battery, it isn't potentially incompatible with future accessories, not does it get in the way of covers and stuff (though they get in the way of the docking station). It's really neat.

But I digress, you question was about a good storage unit for all your games, cradle, and 3DS. I personally carry everything in an old GBA purse...bag...thing. It has enough room for two DSes (3DS and lite), cradle, charging wires, etc. But they're not sold any more. I've seen little lunchbox-sized bags for the 3DS being sold in some stores however. Here's one of those lunchbox bags, it's 8.35 x 4.72 x 9.13 inches in space.

I also recommend this pack of gear, some of it may be unnecessary, but I have to say it was worth the purchase as a whole.

Also, if you plan on playing it for long periods of time, I recommend some sort of grip accessory. My hands cramped way too often playing OOT for hours at a time, though they were nowhere near as bad as the cramps MP:H caused on the DS, haha.

u/JackSparrowUSA · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Screen protector, yes; amFilm

Pro controller: I’d say no. My kids (7,6,4 yo) prefer the joycons. For adults, the Pro Controller is a more optimal experience imo.

Battery Life: depends on the game, but call it 3 hours.

Charger: car charger or power bank may make sense of will be in the car for more than a full charge.

Get a carrying case: Butterfox

Other games: Super Mario Odyssey (1-2 players); Snipperclips Plus (retail and digital) and Overcooked (digital only) are good games for 2+ players. To play 3 player you would need an extra set of joycons or a pro controller.

u/thchao · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

There's an alternative circle pad pro for XL. The additional circle pad is on the left side, which allows you to control movement and camera with your left hand only, in the traditional PSP MH gripping fashion.

Yes I bought an XL because of this. It's much more comfortable for my right hand (the ABXY buttons are no longer far away from my small hands) and feels much more balanced. The only problem is my thumb still goes for the phantom circle pad and I need to unlearn that after playing through MH3G and MH4 village XD

u/moustachesamurai · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

They actually come pretty cheap now. (similar price in Europe)

Battery last for about 500 hours, which is pretty neat.

Oh, and it really improves the grip comfort.

u/boisterile · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

This is the one for the older XL models (don't know if you have an XL, but the extra screen size is really helpful for Monster Hunter too) https://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Pro-Nintendo-Accessory-Included/dp/B009LGO88E

Basically just fits around your 3DS and adds an extra analog stick on the right. There's an option in the 4U settings menu to enable it once you get it. It's a godsend.

I thinkkk this is the one for non-XL models, but you may want to do a little more research and make sure https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Circle-pad-Replacement/dp/B00T5I2RXQ

u/crambosho · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hello all,

I've been scouring the search feature and Google and I have a hard time picturing which case works for me exactly. I am looking for a case that can hold the future Nyko Portable Docking Kit, an extra set of JoyCons and their wrist straps + original wrist straps (The Docking Kit comes with an HDMI, power cable and the AC adapter). I realize that this might be a stretch given that the Docking Kit isn't out, but for those with amazing spatial abilities, that would be grand!

I'm really trying to avoid a backpack or huge compartments, a single-handed carrying case would be ideal.

These are the few that I've been eyeing but kind of torn with.

Butterfox

Hard EVA

Orzly

Surge

Thoughts anyone?

Re posting this from another thread:

If you plan on getting a 3DS XL, I have to recommend this.
It makes your 3DSXL FEEL like a controller.
And if it's any kind of 3DS, reguklar, 2ds or Xl I reccomend this it makes it feel better, and it's easier to do tilts.

I can vouch for the quality of both products and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

u/Khirsah01 · 1 pointr/3DS

I have the same issue and almost had to stop playing my O3DSXL until I got a Circle Pad Pro LL (the LL is Japan's XL) and used that until I upgraded to the N3DS and N3DSXL and encountered the problem all over again... The only grip I can use for the N3DS is the Cyber Gadget N3DS Grip and for the N3DSXL it's the Cyber Gadget N3DSLL Grip V2. Extra bonuses for the Cyber Gadget grips are that they're easy to put on and remove, don't scratch your console like some of the hard plastic grips, and have a little door on the back that you can open to see two game card slots so you can carry a couple extra physical games with you.

Edit: Another bonus is you'll never have to take off the Cyber Gadget grips for normal use. All slots are open including the game card, headphone, stylus, IR port, charging port, and heck even the charm attach slot is open!

u/azuredelcielo · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I got nothing for your hand cramps unfortunately, but even before smash I personally found the 3DS circle pad a bit too slippery for my taste. I grabbed some circle pad covers on amazon, and they've been working great:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00C1XYUY6?cache=0061feed30983d095ab69c6adb6201f0&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1411248560&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1

One's even got the same pattern as the GameCube stick =)

u/Navolas2 · 4 pointsr/MonsterHunter

Which version of 3ds do you have? If you have an original version of the 3ds or 3ds XL I would suggest the claw pad pro I linked to. It puts an additional Circle pad a little below the L button on the system. Gives you have claw feelings and is way more comfortable at the same time.

I honestly have considered buying an OG 3DS again so I can use it with my American release monster hunter games.Though due to time since release they are getting a bit more spendy.... but it is amazing.

edit: Also could try just the normal Circle Pad Pro. 3DS XL OG 3DS

u/holycowitschris · 3 pointsr/3DS

Buy these for grip. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UURTXK6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

They just clip onto the top of your circle pad.

I just bought them and they seem to work well for grip. Make sure you put them on CORRECTLY, otherwise they will fall off. I use the one with the dots on my N3DSXL. My circle pad was slippery as well. This is a huge improvement.

u/OpenlyCray · 1 pointr/3DS

http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6 You want these, trust me. They give me a sense of safety while I play, like my circle pad isn't going to get damaged, and the give you a better grip at the same time. Takes a little bit of force to get on and off at first, though.

u/Sexytimeturtle · 2 pointsr/3DS

I tried roughing the surface on mine as I found games unplayable with the default circle pad. It only helped marginally. The caps are a godsend and the best solution.

u/qua2k · 2 pointsr/3DS

thank you for this, i was thinking about getting the dreamGEAR one but didnt like that it covered the whole 3DS and you couldnt access the game cartridge slot. this solves everything.

i ordered their pad covers (https://www.amazon.com/Cyber-・Premium-Slide-Cover-Clear-Black/dp/B00UURTXK6/) a while ago and they fit perfectly, doesnt fall off and very snug.

u/david2278 · 3 pointsr/3DS

I'm assuming your 3dsxl is not a new 3ds xl. Try and find a circle pad pro XL (make sure it's an XL size and NOT the regular circle pad pro). If your hands are big you'll love this thing. It's great for monster hunter. Here's one on amazon. I didn't check for the lowest price I just found one as fast as I could so you could see it. http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Circle-Pad-Pro-Sonstiges/dp/B00B3TXJ14

Google "circle pad pro games" and you'll get more info on it.

u/2shovel2knight · 2 pointsr/patientgamers

It's this guy right here.

There's also an official Nintendo product called the Circle Pad Pro that's a bit cheaper, but I like the ergonomics on the Hori product better.

And even though they're Japanese products, they work just fine with old-model American 3DSXL's.

u/toodlebutts · 3 pointsr/3DS

The link provided there isn't a grip, it's a Circle Pad Pro for the original 3DS. You already have a C-Stick on the New 3DS, so it's pointless even if it did fit.

Either https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WU8EEAC/ (which I bought) or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OTEMTD4/ are considered the best ones. There are pros and cons to each.

The first one doesn't have a cartridge slot open to pull your carts in and out, meaning you have to take the grip off to change physical cartridge games. However, it's more comfortable to access the triggers than the second one.

The second one is generally the more popular one despite being more expensive. There's room to carry two extra games in the back stand, and isn't as hard to take off as the first grip. However, the positions of the "fake triggers" can be confusing and uncomfortable for when you do actually want to use the 3DS triggers.

u/Maple_Syrup_Mogul · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y52CDHT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_AAVRuriKH657R

This is the one I use. It holds the console, two extra Joy Con, the charger, and nine games all pretty easily. May not be big enough for all your stuff though.

u/Japsy · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd recommend the Butterfox case instead of the licensed one, since it's more versatile, aesthetically pleasing, cheaper and fits more stuff. (i.e. ac adapter). If you want this one than make sure it's the 9 cartridge one, since that's the newest version. Also a 128 SD card class 10 will most likely go on sale this coming black friday/cyber monday.

u/MUViT · 1 pointr/3DS

I ordered these pad covers shortly after I bought my 3DS - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UURTXK6

Works like a charm, although some buyers are having issues with the covers themselves slipping off the pad. In that case try using super glue if you don't mind having a semi-permanent accessory.

u/h_1995 · 1 pointr/3DS

i bought this item https://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6

as the circle pad silicone had begun to tore off i went to rip it from the circle pad housing. as i was thinking glue is a bad idea, i got this material https://www.amazon.com/Faber-Castell-Multipurpose-Adhesive-Non-Toxic-Removable/dp/B01DMA7QW4

good thing is this adhesive is removable (though there are some traces but can be removed easily) so that you can adjust the thickness until it feels right. the way to apply it is like applying a thermal paste, but way smaller

edit: the circle pad silicone is glued to the housing but since the silicone is flimsy, the glue is somewhat flimsy as well. should be easy to rip the silicone apart

u/MrRustyShackelford · 3 pointsr/nintendo

I use those too!

For anyone interested, they come in "3DS Clean and Protect" kits. Target has them on sale for $7 sometimes. Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Official-Clean-Protect-Kit-3DS/dp/B004J1DD14

If the extra opinion helps, I bought a CPP grip for my friend hoping he'd play 4u. That recommendation failed, but when I tried it out, I found it really ergonomic, and it doesn't have the adjustment period I felt with the cstick. You can pick one up from amazon for $12~. It's the japanese LL version, but the accessory is region free and works with any language 3DS XL.

u/Crucinyx · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Absolutely love Butterfox, the girlfriend has the one you listed and loves it. I picked up this, in anticipation of an increasing switch library.

It only has 20 slots for the switch, but the 3DS pouches easily hold the switch cartridges snugly. My old 3DS game case ran out of slots, so this was a no-brainer buy for me.

Would recommend for anyone else that requires a 'hybrid' storage.

Here is link for the Circle Pad Cover and the Controller Grip.

The circle pad cover elevates the stick more and has grips. Makes it easier to use. It's more plasticy than the soft touch of the original

The controller grip is a soft touch, satin finish and feels amazing. The triggers make it feel great compared to the original shoulder buttons. I was planning to post it when I got my Char X decal, but I decided to post it anyway.

u/neo141 · 2 pointsr/3DS

You could try these.

>I've seen those plastic things that go over the pad, but you can't close your DS with one on!

Mine is a Cybergadget Circle Pad Cover (slim type). I can close my N3DS XL perfectly with it.

u/iwasnotmagnificent · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Yep, it's basically a perfect fit, but it's close. I don't know if I could fit anything else in the zipper if a future accessory came out.

I got the grip, but the grip wasn't the only issue for me, I also got [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413385288&sr=8-1&keywords=circle+pad+cover) I shoul be getting them before the endof the week I hope it's gonna help.

I have issues keeping the circle centered without it slipping a tiny bit and making me lose the tilt or smash or dash attack I wanted to make. Hopefully it's gonna help.

u/Darkminno · 1 pointr/3DS

Scoring with sandpaper helps a little bit, and for a lot of people, it immediately solves the problem. I've seen people put a bit of masking tape on the nub, which might help, or you can order the circlepad covers I've linked to at the bottom of this reply. I don't know how well they work, but I just ordered some, so I'll post with the results at some point.

EDIT: Forgot the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C1XYUY6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, try hand sanitizer. Put a dab on your thumb and a dab on the pad, then dry them both off with something. Helped me a little bit, but it's a super-temporary fix.

u/VenusFurs · 1 pointr/3DS

If your circle pad actually still works and it's just the rubber cover that peeled off, i wouldn't risk opening up the console just to replace it.

Instead, you can grab one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Cyber-%E3%83%BBPremium-Slide-Cover-Clear-Black/dp/B00UURTXK6/

You basically just put it above your circle pad and you should have a pretty nice grip over it.

I bought these a while ago for my XL to protect the rubber. They work well and have good grips, but sometimes fall off which is how i lost my first one. The second one I chose seems to hold up better since it hasn't fallen off after intense ssb.

u/Ness_Success · 2 pointsr/3DS

The rubber circle pad cap came off of my original 3DS. I played it like crazy, and after about 3 years it came off. I just upgraded and bought a 3ds XL, but i also purchased this along with it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C1XYUSM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They snap right over the analog, and feel better. There are 6 different ones all with different textures, use the one that works for you. I've been using it, and I believe it's protecting my circle pad.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/CrazyHand

I bought Circle Pad Covers on Amazon for like $10:
http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6

I use the "Gamecube style" one can't go back to the regular circle pad. They feel like hard plastic but the grip is actually really good, and don't feel "sticky" like the circle pad does.

u/DarkCybrid · 1 pointr/3DS

Here is the one I use. Works well, is comfortable, has a neat little stand that folds out the back. My only complaint is the bottom lip of it covers the game card slot so you have to take it off to change cards, although this isn't really an issue for me as most of my games are digital.

u/xLuky · 2 pointsr/3DS

You really need a grip to play monster hunter or its torture on your hands.

This glorious piece of plastic has allowed me to play 100+ hours of MH, I can't play without it now.

Someone else posted a grip for the XL, mine is for anyone that has a regular size N3DS like me.

u/Callsignraven · 1 pointr/3DS

I am not currently using a case, just using the grip and cover from here.

https://www.amazon.com/Updated-Hand-Nintendo-Stylus-Clear/dp/B075YP1CTH

I find is pretty uncomfortable to play my 2dsxl for long periods of time without the grip and will give up the extra portability to have it. The grip and cover protect is fairly well. my only concern would be the shoulder buttons. I also have one of the cases linked below. I really don't like how bulky it makes the whole package. All of my games are digital so I dont need the extra storage provided.

u/TwistedEvanescia · 1 pointr/FinalFantasyExplorers

It may not be a solution you like but you might look into a Circle Pad Pro. I have used one for over 400 hours of Monster Hunter and am very glad I have one for this game.

u/defacke · 1 pointr/3DS

Were the "mario playing card" cover plates (these ones) always around ~$30?

I recall most cover plates hovering around $15-25 bucks a while back on amazon. Is this one "special" in some way or is the increased price due to the increase in demand (from the influx of regular n3ds owners)?

u/khedoros · 3 pointsr/3DS

A New 3DS XL is 160mm x 93.5mm x 21.5mm.

A New 2DS XL is 160mm x 86mm x 20mm.

So the 2DS XL isn't quite as tall or as thick, but it's just as wide. I'd bet that most of the thickness difference comes from the top screen.

You can always get a hand grip to make it easier for you to hold.

u/Dietcokke · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I prefer the standard New 3DS myself. The size is great, bigger than the OG 3DS and smaller than the XLs. I still bought a grip, mostly to flesh out the thickness, and now it's really comfortable! The faceplates are nice too, I sticker bombed a set. A point that people will argue is screen size, I think the New 3DS's is fine and the XL is too big for the resolution. Also, screw the gloss on the New XL, it's a terrible finish. The pattern looks nice, but I just can't stand the feel. Some of the faceplates for the New 3DS are glossy, but I think every New 3DS bundle (at least in the US) comes with at least one set of matte plates.

u/name-usered · 1 pointr/3DS

It is sooo hard to find good new 3ds stylus's (non-Xl). They essentially don't sell 1st party ones in the US, but these are good ones that dont have the issues many cheap stylus's have, mainly a sharp plastic line down the middle where the stylus touches the screen.

I think it feels great, but as other reviewers mentioned, it blocks the cartridge slot and can be a tight fit for some. It also makes the power button even harder to press.

u/ShobuPrime · 2 pointsr/gaming

The grip works wonders! Since it's a Non-XL "New" 3DS and since I no longer have my small hands, it makes extended play sessions very comfortable. It only cost me $5.99 too! I forgot where I got it from, but I'll take a look when I can.

Have a 3dsxl [old model] I use the circle pad pro for mh4u. I like the extra grip as I find the 3dsxl to be a bit of a hand cramp. Still looking forward to getting a n3dsxl tho.

I ordered a circle pad pro from japan fit the old 3dsxl,

Circle Pad Pro - Nintendo 3DS LL Accessory (3DS LL Console Not Included) Japan Inport https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009LGO88E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fB2JybEN32HH9

Works fine in my US 3dsxl. Uses 1 AAA battery, haven't had to change it much yet.

There's also a regular 3ds version if you go that route.

Something to add is that a lot of games get a load time decrease with the new 3ds (and xl) models. Usually a few seconds but kinda more noticeable in newer games.

This is what you need. You can keep these on and close the lid as well.

That is called a Circle pad Pro (CPP). You can snag one on Amazon.

The CPP for XL would cost about $20 (As does the CPP for regular 3DS), and right now importing from Japan costs a little over $20, and there's no difference between JP, NA, and PAL consoles in terms of accessories. So there really isn't anything to stop you from getting one.

Agreed. It felt painful dropping $30 on Amazon for 071, even with free two day shipping. I just know I'll get tired of Blastoise at some point and out of the entire numbered plates, that one really caught my eye. I figured I'd pick it up before it became a fad and everyone wanted one.

Still, I can almost understand why Boo is $100. Almost.

I would suggest amazon, it's imported from Japan but it's still from nintendo. $20

or you can just put them in your pockets, 25 for each front pocket (since you don't want to crush them in your back pockets).

a cheaper alternative would be use those bags that you get at grocery stores that hold your groceries.

It works with the Japanese LL and the NA XL (same model)

I think /u/8drawr means the pro controller but the actual pro pad is a tool for the 3DS

u/Deuterostome · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

Its Nintendo made circle pad pro for the 3ds xl (3ds LL in japan).

It looks so sleek! Have you ever tried using a circle pad cover?

u/fenom · 1 pointr/3DS

They make some of those specifically for the 3DS. Why not just use one of those?

I'm thinking of investing in a set of these (or something similar):
