Top Reddit comments about Nintendo 3DS & 2DS Batteries & Chargers:

Can't say for UK shipping, but I recently got a new one from Amazon. Super easy to change, like swapping batteries from the TV remote.

I changed it because mine was started to deplete faster (3 years of intense use, give or take). This new battery, with wireless off, lasts me around 5 hours or more. It's pretty good.

It's also pretty cheap. IF shipment works out for you:

Consider something like this, that you can hang within your own reach. (NOT his reach, or it will be emptied in the first minute of the trip!)

http://www.amazon.ca/Over-Door-Clear-Organizer-Storage/dp/B000IXOH7G

Fill each pocket with a different activity/toys/snacks. Go to the dollar store and stock up on things like sticker books, crayons/pad of paper, mini cars, bouncy balls, anything that might keep his interest for awhile that doesn't require your supervision.

I recently did a 12 hour flight with my 2.5 year old (and 4 month old daughter). The very best thing I brought with me (other than the iPad) in terms of entertaining him was a ziplock bag full of miniature cars each individually wrapped in painters tape. Yes it was a bitch to clean up after (lots of little scraps of painters tape stuck to everything in arms reach) but every one of them brought happy "oooooh" "wow" "woah" comments, and bought about ~10 minutes of unwrapping time, plus at least 20 minutes of happily rolling them around on things. So yeah, painters tape!

Also, get external battery chargers for the tablet and the 3ds. (Like this one for example. Http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Pak-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B004SJA7L6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361147770&sr=8-1&keywords=battery+pack+3ds

Good luck. It won't be easy but you can do it!

u/Quivico · 1 pointr/3DS

From what I can find, all 3DS devices (including the New 2DS XL) are region-locked, meaning that depending on where your device is from, only games from those regions will work. The main regions (more detail is complicated) are the Americas, Europe/PAL, and Japan.

For example, if you get a New 2DS XL from the United States, games from Canada should work but games from the UK probably won't.

Peru is an interesting country because it supplies power at 220 V and 60 Hz, which not many nations use. It also can take Type A (US, two rectangular pins) and Type C (Euro, two circular pins) plugs. You need to make sure the charger you purchase can support 220 V and 60 Hz, which the regular US charger does not support. There are third-party chargers like this charger which support a range of voltages and frequency, although of course third-party chargers may be less reliable than official chargers.

To search for chargers easily, you might want to search for 3DS chargers, because the New 2DS XL uses the same charger.

u/d4mation · 1 pointr/3DS

Unless you want to play GBA games, don't bother with a DS Lite. You will only regret it later and a 3DS or 2DS can be found fairly cheaply.

If you are concerned about battery life and maybe even accessories, the 3DS may be the best choice for you. The default battery life of the 3DS XL may be a little better, but you can buy 3rd party battery packs like the Nyko Power Pak+ that you will find many on this subreddit swear by and it is very cheap for the extra punch it gives. I wish one were available for my XL, but there are no better battery options (within a reasonable price range) for the XL.

I like my XL personally, but it sounds like you don't really like it and that decision is definitely up to you. I found the regular 3DS was too small for me (I owned a near-launch console) and I didn't like the build quality of it. Specifically the Start, Select, and Home buttons.

I cannot speak for the 2DS, but I don't know if I would let the Mono speaker be a deal breaker for you. The speakers on the 3DS and 3DS XL are fairly terrible anyway. I've always thought the ones on my DS Lite have sounded better personally.

u/snorking · 2 pointsr/3DS

i have the standard 3DS, and yeah, ive never had any issues finding the sweet spot as far as the 3d slider goes. as long as im holding it properly, the 3d is pretty flawless with most games, so i rarely turn it off. there ARE some games though where it feels like they get too concerned with the 3D, and theres not really any rhyme or reason as to why one thing pops out so much farther than another. just so long as it looks sufficiently 3D, the devs seem happy. as for the bigger battery, i picked up this guy and its some of the best money ive ever spent. it makes the 3ds a little bit fatter, and a little bit heavier, but it actually makes it more comfortable to hold. it also feels a little bit rubbery so its easier to grip than the smooth plastic back the 3ds comes with. the only issue is it no longer fits into the circlepad pro, or the charging cradle, but its really easy to switch back to the old battery if i need to. if you've got a 3ds, pick up this battery. it pretty much completely changed my relationship with my 3ds. instead of constantly worrying about battery power, i hardly ever need to think about it beyond remembering to charge it every night. and i think they actually do make a charging cradle for the extended battery if you're feeling like Mr. Moneybags.

u/LegendReborn · 1 pointr/3DS

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NJ2UEW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is the battery I bought. The fourth picture gives the best idea of what it's like in real life. It adds a good bit of bulk to the 3ds (which is a positive, in my opinion) and probably wouldn't fit the circle pad pro. As for the battery itself, I can charge it once a week, play 15 hours easily, and have it on with the wifi enabled the whole time without it even hitting the red.

A portable charger would probably be easier to get rather than a bigger battery that is also compatible with the circle pad pro.

u/gr3yh47 · 1 pointr/3DS

did you already buy the console? if he wants to carry it around with him i would highly recommend an original 3ds (not xl) and this battery pack: http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B004SJFJUA

it comes with the charge stand as well as the extended battery. it is still pocketable (the xl is not easily pocketable) and the battery life will be excellent with that battery pack i linked.

i'm 28 and have pretty big hands, and i don't carry a backpack anywhere so while the 3ds is comfortable, if he carries a backpack or wears cargo pants/shorts he might be fine carrying the xl with him. either way i highly recommend skinomi tech skin for protection : http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=skinomi%20tech%20skin%203ds it takes about 1.5 hours to put on but then it stays on and it really is like thin clear armor for the thing.

u/evereal · 10 pointsr/Games

Well I've got great news for you. If you are happy with a fatter console, you can get a larger battery for very cheap like this one for the 3Ds. This will give you well over 12 hours battery, from many reports.

I am sure there will be similar solutions for the Switch too.

Your apparent reason for not owning a 3ds is easily and cheaply solvable!

u/ders_wit_a_hard_An · 1 pointr/3DS

Literally same thing happens with the 3DS XL I bought off eBay for cheap. This is why I found was the cheapest solution...

Buy these two items:

(guy-tech) Universal LCD Battery Charger for Nintendo DS XL 3DS SPR 003 SPR-003 Official https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JCSNTGB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_O-E-Bb81T9DVN

yes I know you’ll have to save and power down to pull the panel off and swap batteries. The best option is to have a new charge port soldered in which I found to cost anywhere from $60-90, considering the part is like $3 the cost is all labor but I surely don’t trust my own soldering skills to attempt it

u/sk00msk00m · 1 pointr/3DS

The original is pretty much perfect for my hands. They’re just slightly bigger now. As for the XL, it’s just uncomfortable for me since it’s hard to hit the bumpers and it takes a little more work just to multitask (lowering my hand to get to the dpad, add more pressure to face buttons. I mean, I use my middle fingers just to use the bumpers sometimes!)

Besides that, I need a new battery anyway. What if I get one of the bulky ones so my hands won’t feel crammed together and making my hand position feel more natural? Maybe this one? It’s not too big

Oh I don’t know..

u/Nikkio101 · 1 pointr/3dshacks

I have had similar interests myself in order to build a custom frame for my N3DS-XL to house this extended battery pack - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NJ2UEW (for a normal N3DS). Looking around These are the best resources I've found so far to start from:

Face-plate - https://grabcad.com/library/3ds-cover-1
Generic 3DS model - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:246100
Battery grip spacer - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:683341

None of these appear to be exactly what I would need to do my own project, so its probably up to me and a pair of calipers to get precise measurements for. Hope these help.

u/Cruel-Tea · 1 pointr/3DS

I bought this one and it has been great - there is another one supplied by amazon with free shipping that looks like it’s the same thing.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074M4R37Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_24UDDb2DZW1ZQ

u/sdeghuee · 1 pointr/3DS

Yeah, in truth I will probably just leave it as purple. Thanks for telling me about the backplate, I might get an add on like the Nyko battery Also I liked the look of the gengar decal or the Phoenix Wrigth decal.

u/Wolflmg · 1 pointr/3DS

No protection plan for the system as it's likely out of warranty. You can sell Pokémon game to a friend, on eBay, or you can trade it for store gift card at Best Buy or Amazon. Otherwise hang on to the game and when your about get a 2ds of 3ds. Even though the Switch is coming out Nintendo has already stated it will not replace the 3ds. Thr 2ds and 3ds still have plenty of life.

Or this is an option
https://www.amazon.com/Screen-Display-Bottom-Replacement-Part-Nintendo/dp/B0131U8QT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484247143&sr=8-2&keywords=2ds+screen+replacement

u/Spladder · 1 pointr/VitaPiracy

FYI to both of you, you can get a special battery thing on amazon for about 20$ that will up your gameplay time on a 3DS to somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 hours. I have one, and it's an absolute godsend, here is the link

u/Oobboua · 2 pointsr/3DS

I had a problem like this for my DS lite, and I had to get the battery replaced. Though, on the bright side, if you had to get your battery replaced, 3rd party sellers have already made batteries superior than the Nintendo ones.

http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-Extended-Battery-Nintendo-CTR-001-MIN-CTR-001/dp/B005NJ2UEW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1369516134&sr=8-4&keywords=3ds+battery

u/stokkebye · 2 pointsr/3DS

you can buy both off of amazon for around the same price:

CPP XL

Cradle Charger

they're fulfilled by amazon so if you have prime you can get 2 day free shipping.

u/autogeass · 1 pointr/smashbros

if you have a normal 3ds, get a bigger battery, they add some grip to the system. I have been using one from Nyko, best $12 i ever spent on my 3ds (accessory-wise). Hope this helps!

u/LungALung · 2 pointsr/gaming

Have any of you had any experience with Nyko? Considering buying one of these to extend the 3DS battery life: http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-ChargeBase-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B004SJFJUA/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1301208096&sr=8-9

I remember it getting some love from a few websites claiming that it'll be double the battery life of the 3DS at the cost of increased bulk.

u/Numero5 · 1 pointr/3DS

If you're worried about portability and battery life, get an original 3DS (the glossy one that can fold and always has black around the screen).

https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/subcategory.jsp?categoryId=cat20003

You can get refurbished units for relatively cheap, and you can disable the 3D with parental controls if it bothers you. And there's more battery extenders for the original 3DS than there are for the 2DS. Look up the Nyko Power Grip, or get an extended battery like this:

http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-Extended-Battery-Nintendo-CTR-001-MIN-CTR-001/dp/B005NJ2UEW/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1415885534&sr=8-14&keywords=cameron+sino+3ds

And as for flash cards, yeah R4 only runs original DS games, not 3DS, and flash cards that do run 3DS software are either limited to certain firmwares or are very expensive.

u/MtnDr3w · 67 pointsr/3DS

I have a Cosmo Black OG 3DS I'm not using anymore, thanks to the fact that I managed to snag one of the Black Friday New 3DS models. I'd take $50 for it in a heartbeat. It has some scuffs that are borderline chips, but definitely nothing bad and nothing that affects functionality.

I have a dock for it too, you'll just have to provide a USB cable (a few bucks on Amazon will get you a 3-pack). Nintendo doesn't include chargers with the New 3DS models, so I kinda need that!

Pictures of the system.

u/Kwarter · 1 pointr/AnimalCrossing

For those of you that want to extend battery life, this third-party battery has been working great for me! I get about 8hrs of gameplay instead of 3-4hrs.

u/casselld · 1 pointr/Games

http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Pak-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B004SJA7L6/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1373099393&sr=1-3&keywords=3ds+battery+extender

I can confirm that Nyko's products do give the 3DS battery quite the boost. I think mine went from about 6 hours on 3DS games (low brightness, no wifi, power saver mode) to about 11-13. And DS games go about 15-16 too. This one is a smaller model of the power grip, and actually made the console quite a bit more comfy for someone like me with big hands. Your choice!

u/huniper · 3 pointsr/pokemon

There are two things I would look at to determine where the problem is:

I've seen the charge ports go bad many times. I'm not sure if you can buy one where you are deployed but the optional charging dock nintendo sells may be the answer to your problem.

Official Nintendo Charge Dock

3rd Party Dock on Amazon

.

It will bypass the charge port, using the two brass colored contacts on either side of the port, and will let you see if the 3DS charging circuit still works.

If it works on the dock you can continue to use the dock to charge, or you can even replace the charge port if you, or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron.

.

That is most likely the problem, however if that does not fix it there are two fuses you can check with a multimeter on the inside of the 3DS. it's fairly easy to do, you just need a #00 phillips screwdriver and a multimeter. If you try a charging dock and it does not work then just reply here or send me a PM and I can walk you through testing the fuses.

.

Hope this help! If you have any questions just let me know and I'll try to help as much as I can.

u/Admiral_Butter_Crust · 4 pointsr/3DS

Unfortunately, no dock. The bigger battery means I can't use the OEM dock so I'd have to track down one of these or 3D print something. The battery can be charged regularly while installed in the console though so it's not all bad.

Actually, I have an idea now. I can likely design and print a dock that will accommodate the extra girth. I'll probably base my design off of the existing OEM dock to make it easier to build.

We'll see =)

edit: Alternatively, a N3DS style dock would be pretty damn easy to make, especially since it already exists and would need very little modification to work.

u/Whirlspell · 2 pointsr/3DS

I used the Nyko Charge Base when I had an original 3DS and I really liked it, especially with the charging dock. You can buy the battery by itself for half the price if you want.

u/ghostretch · 3 pointsr/3DS

The brand name is Tomee.. So yes, it is 3rd party hardware, it's also cheaper. Here is the dock sans 3DS.

u/Kazimeras · 3 pointsr/3DS

If it's the battery that is bugging you the most, you may want to look into a Nyko Power Pak. It will add a bit of bulk to your 3DS but will greatly improve the batter life.

u/Guy_Buttersnaps · 14 pointsr/gamernews

Nyko makes pretty much the same thing and sells it for 80% less.

EDIT: Turns out you can buy them for even cheaper than that. Amazon has it for $13.25+shipping, and BestBuy has it for $14.99 with free shipping.

u/Mechageo · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Switch Pro Controller literally uses a 1st gen 3DS battery. Do you have a 1st gen 3DS? You can swap batteries and your 3DS should be able to charge it. I did this with a "dead" Wii U Pro Controller battery (Yes, it uses the same battery as the Switch Pro Controller) and it worked like a charm.

If that doesn't work, You can always buy replacement 3DS batteries really cheap. The model number is CTR-003.

u/Nokel · 3 pointsr/3DS

Buy this. I use it on my O3DS and the battery life is really great.

u/Abezilla116 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Here ya go: http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-Extended-Battery-Nintendo-CTR-001-MIN-CTR-001/dp/B005NJ2UEW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1341389309&sr=8-5&keywords=3Ds+battery

One of the reviews on there is mine. It actually puzzles me that more people aren't buying this awesome battery! I was also the first reviewer, I was looking at the "mugen power" battery for the 3Ds, which is pretty much a $50 version of this. I simply didn't have the money for one, so I found this on youtube. Nothing but people bad talking it and being overall pessimistic, so I found on on amazon after looking for a couple seconds and decided to take a gamble on it. Blew my mind. Generic or not, its good. I've had it for several months and at $20 there's not much of a downside. It doesn't come with a screw driver so you'll have to buy one, its a good investment though and they're pretty cheap too.

Edit: Holy shit, the Mugen power battery is actually about $100

u/newbzoors · 16 pointsr/smashbros

This becomes Amazon's best selling product.

u/shopl · 2 pointsr/3DS

Looks like this But I am not sure if it is genuine :)

u/colecovizion · 2 pointsr/gamernews

That seems expensive compared to some other battery options out there. I just bought one made by Nyko on Amazon that claim 2x battery life. Because they were so cheap (~$13), I bought 2! Here is a link, they appear to be getting good reviews.

u/phamBam27 · 3 pointsr/3DS

u/nnid · 3 pointsr/3DS

hopefully it is just the charger that is fried, and your 3DS still works. if that's the case, get a charger that can handle 100-220v. then you don't have to worry about converters.

u/bobdotexe · 1 pointr/nds

>Just purchase an aftermarket DSi battery with higher mAh capacity.

Beware of the "higher capacity" listings

Many times you'll see a battery that offers twice the capacity of the original, but in reality, those tend to just be the same capacity, or less.

Rule of thumb: If it claims to be an extended battery, and it's not significantly (psychically) larger, The capacity is fake.

Sure, you could squeeze in a few extra mah's in, and keep it the same size so it will fit in your ds/dsi, But if it claims to be 30+% larger, you'd need to increase the size of the battery.

u/ChibiSheep · 1 pointr/3DS

It's not the same physical size, and adds weight and bulk, but I grabbed an aftermarket one from amazon for ~$25, and now I get a solid week from my 3ds.

I've got this charging cradle for my XL, will the N3DS XL fit into the hole and will the charging contacts line up?

u/ACDCGAMER · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

How much would a black Nintendo 3DS (original, not XL) sell for, with this 5,000 mAh battery that I currently have installed? I still have the original back cover and battery that I can reinstall if needed.

u/theForehead · 8 pointsr/3DS

Yeah, it can make travelling frustrating. I've found that third party chargers often support voltage conversion, though!

u/Admiral_obvious13 · 2 pointsr/3DS

Do you have the original 3DS? If so, don't spend $20.

I used the Power Pak, it had about twice the battery life and I got it for around $10 at a GameStop. Amazon has it listed for $14.99, but there is also this at $10 if you don't need the extra battery life or slight bulkiness of the Power Pak.

u/B0NEMERANG · 1 pointr/wiiu

Hi, I just checked and they are back in stock. They seem to have them intermittently. This is for the 3DS

(The 3DS XL I think was only available for Club Nintendo but you can get it for $11 on Amazon (works in the US)

u/theflamelord · 1 pointr/3DS

i don't know about hungary, but in america you can get a new battery from the nintendo site for 15 dollars or from amazon for about 10 dollars

u/justhadtosaythis · 1 pointr/3DS

If you bought a normal 3DS I recommend buying the Nyko Power Pak +

It doubled my 3Ds's battery life and I think it makes the console easier to grip. Very cheap too.

I wanted to buy the Nyko Power Grip. But it wasn't available when I ordered :(

I can't comment on it but 3x the battery life seemed very cool. Especially when the power pak legit doubles the battery life...

It's the only thing keeping me from upgrading to an XL. I don't want to sacrifice the battery life /: First world problems...

I'd uh, wait for it to get released first and see some reviews though because apparently it's a shady company and the capcity labels on the packet and the actual battery don't match...

This is one more reason to have this.

A few options if you have to get the 3DS to turn on:

  1. Take the battery out and charge it in a different machine.
  2. Get a charger that uses the contacts next to the port. If you can find one. I see this one, and it seems to work from the Questions.
  3. Replace the port.

  1. There are currently no Gameboy Advance games on the eshop, although they have given out Gameboy Advance games through the Ambassador Program, so they could potentially add some later on.

  2. If it gets stolen you might be able to, check this post, otherwise probably not due to games being tied to the hardware.

  3. The 3DS battery lasts about 3-5 hours, while the XL lasts about 3.5 to 6.5 hours. It is possible to buy a battery pack to expand it if you wish though (such as this or this for example).

The japanese ones are really cheap on Amazon. Despite packaging, they are literally the same item. This is where I got mine when I didn't feel like waiting until the end of April.

Dude, don't put that battery in again and get rid of it ASAP! That's a faulty battery!

I don't know where you are from or how old your 3DS is,but you can buy a new one for not a lot of money from Amazon. There is even a Amazon's Choice one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8EXTO3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_J71AzbFQ3FSMT

i prefer the 3ds because it folds so it fits better in my pocket. also, if your charge port is fucked up you can get this which i don't think there's an equivalent for on the 2ds.

Pretty much what I said above

  1. 3D off
  2. Brightness down(can be adjusted on the top left of home screen)
  3. Wi-Fi off. Your system is constantly checking for signals, updates, street passes, ect.
  4. Using headphones over built in speakers

If you follow that I imagine you could achieve the top rating of 8 hours. Other than that you can get a battery pack, but be aware that this voids your warranty and the one I listed has some negative reviews.
