If you're limiting this to cartridge titles you're gonna' get fewer results, but I can recommend some:

Steel Diver, a decent submarine combat game from Nintendo.

Scribblenauts Unlimited - A good entry in a solid game series.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, a good strategy-RPG.

Also, regular DS games (which play on the 3DS). Unlike 3DS games, DS games are not region-sensitive, so you can play imports just fine on your US system, too:

Elite Beat Agents - Probably the best music-rhythm game on the DS.

Rhythm Heaven - Another very good music-rhythm game, albeit more in the abstract.

Sonic Colors and Sonic Rush - Surprisingly good Sonic games.

Mama's Combo Pack - I've never played Camping Mama, but Cooking Mama is a great series of food-themed touchscreen minigames.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies - A great space shooter

WarioWare DIY - A fun entry in Nintendo's "microgame" series, with a "custom build it yourself" twist.

N+ - A simple, but extremely fun and challenging, ninja platformer game.

Pac Pix - A fun arcadey game where you draw Pac-Man to eat ghosts.

Jam Sessions and its sequel - Not a game as much as a tool to create music. Still, very good.

Bust-A-Move DS - A surprisingly good version of this classic puzzle game series with touchscreen support.

Polarium DS - A good, if simple, puzzle game.

Touchmaster, More Touchmaster, Touchmaster Connect and Touchmaster 3 - Good minigame collections.

Pipe Mania - A decent take on the old "Pipe Dream" puzzle game.

The best protection options apply to most other devices out there as well. It is not very complicated, but you can find a variety of protection accessories online.

Screen protectors are a no-brainer. Clear ones do not obstruct viewing and they are vasically invisible. Get Hori brand ones if you like an easier installation method and a brand name, or get some other cheaper ones that function just as well like the illumishield protectors, which I use.

Then for cases, you got body cases and carrying cases. You mostly only need one, but having bothel would be great as well. I prefer just any EVA case I think they are called. It is like soft, touch plastic material and usually they have zippers and a strap to hold the DS inside.

As for cheapness, just go on Amazon and check lol. I think there are a bunch of cheap options there. I will link a few too in a bit.

These screen protectors are good.

The cases I linked are all basically the same except for some with a few key differences. One has a carrying strap, one has more room for games, one is really cheap, but lacks game holding slots, and one is supposedly waterproof. There are other ones, but they are all basically the same. I wouldn't recommend the one without game slots.

Also, there are clear body cases and silocon cases on Amazon, so check those out as well. You seem to have planned far ahead, so no matter you finances, I hope this is affordable to you sometimes between now and then :).

u/Saxophobe · 2 pointsr/New2DSXL

I imagine that lots more will come out soon. Most accessories for 2DS XL you will be able to use the same as you used for the 3DS XL, so lots already out in that sense. (some items will still need to be 2DS XL Specific though).

To give you an example, I will show you a few from the same people I bought all my Nintendo Switch accessories from. (I check their accessories frequently, as the designs they use tend to be extremely well thought out in terms of what it's actually like to use them, and are often among the best quality for Nintendo stuff)

Orzly 2DS XL Travel Pouch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0741RG6J9

What's nice about these is they seem to have matched the color schemes of the 2DS XL consoles themselves, they seem to have been designed specifically for the New 2DS XL model (but I'm willing to bet that they fit nearly every other model of DS/3DS/etc aswell, however I will let you know when I actually test one out). Originally I was tempted just to keep my 3DS XL pouch, but this one comes with slots for 16 or more games, and they seem to have done an excellent job of being very space efficient, plus I like how the top pocket is fully zippable on this one).

Orzly Travel Bag for Nintendo DS Consoles: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LXAP2PE

This type of accessory works for pretty much any model of DS (except the old 2DS apparently, probably because it was bigger) but they say it works with all the foldable lid models, and they do specifically state compatibility with 2DS XL, so these would undoubtedly work.

InvisiCase for 2DS XL: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B073V2RXNK

These ones will probably only fit the 2DS XL (and no other models) as they are shaped to the exact contours of the console, so would not be the same on other models. I'm not usually a fan of this style, as they aren't usually compatible with charging docks. That said, the 2DS XL doesn't seem to have a dock and uses the cable anyway, so probably not an issue this time around. Would be interesting to see if this one fits inside the Pouch. If anyone tries that combination let me know.

I often check their stuff and try out the ones I like, so I'l let you know if I see them bring anything else out, or if I roadtest any of these. ( the inviscase, I'm in two minds on, so we'll see. but the first one on this list I already have for my daughter's 3DS, so I can already vouch for those being excellent. The pouch I am about to order, so will let you know when it gets here, but I've got high hopes of for that one if it's anywhere near as good as the one they did for the Nintendo Switch.

UPDATE: Just found screen protectors pop up aswell..

Pretty much any starter kit is just cheap crap. I'd advise you to just spend a little extra and buy quality.

Styli. Basically the only spare bulk pack available at the moment, hence the long shipping wait.

Car charger I would instead buy either a portable power bank and 3DS USB cable or a USB car charger like this and a 3DS USB cable. A power bank would be a good bit more expensive but is really nice to have if you have a lot of electronics you bring with you. Here's a pretty good one.

Great card case holder.

Budget but good carrying cases: 1, 2, 3, 4.

Yes, its more expensive to go this route. But I promise you that you will be happy you did. I bought those crappy starter kits for my GBC, GBA, and DS. The stuff was low quality and generally just doesn't last. I bought stuff for my 3DS similar to what I've linked here and have been much happier with the quality and make

u/JetJaguar124 · 2 pointsr/Switch

Good start. If you want to make your Switch a truly portable console, I'd recommend this HDMI to USB-C adapter, as well as a retractable HDMI cable. This combo will fit into any carrying case, along with maybe another set of Joycons, and you'll be able to play literally anywhere super easily, for less money than it takes to buy a new dock and way more compactly. This has made it super easy to take my Switch to other people's houses, to different countries, and even to my work (me and my co-workers played Smash on a gigantic conference room screen while working Christmas eve).

u/Excellus · 23 pointsr/3DS

Heh, that is ridiculous.
You can get them much cheaper online.

Original 3DS XL.

10-pack of styluses on Amazon US. $5.90

5-pack of styluses on Amazon UK. £4

Original 3DS.

5-pack of what appears to be official styluses on Amazon UK. £2.99

5-pack of bootleg styluses on Amazon UK. (£3.49)

3-pack of Official Nintendo stlyuses on Amazon USA $8.99

10-pack of Bootleg styluses off Amazon USA. $6.99

You can also get bootlegs slightly cheaper off eBay, but most of them come from China so it'll take a while to come.

New 3DS.

4-pack of styluses off Amazon UK. £3.95

4-pack of styluses off eBay. $7~

I am really struggling to find N3DS styluses online in America, the only ones I could find on Amazon are these expensive Animal Crossing ones, which are like $11 each and come with a charm or something,

New 3DS XL

10-pack on Amazon UK for £2.99

10-pack of styluses on Amazon US. $6.99

All systems (although they will not fit into the stylus slot).

These big Mario, and Yoshi 2-pack styluses with charms on them Amazon UK. £2

These big-ass Pokemon ones 3-pack $9 on Amazon US.

These big-ass 3-pack on Amazon US. $5

Big ass 3-Pack of styluses on Amazon UK. £3.

The bootleg styluses work pretty much the same as the regular ones, and are much cheaper.
You can probably find bootlegs for cheaper on eBay, but most of these lists are Amazon US, or UK items, so it might be easier getting them from there idk.
No idea why I made this list, I'm just very bored. ^^^^^idontworkforamazonbtw

How can Nintendo charge £7.50 for one?!

u/Byelliybear · 8 pointsr/3DS

I found a really good awesome cases on Amazon.ca.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01G3X6ZME/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Super legit case. I love how the case is secured and connected by hinges(I have two New 3DS XL and two New 3DS systems. Some hinges of the systems are more loose, there seems to always be a variance or play) But this case makes your 3DS really sturdy and protects it.

They also have it for the New 3DS XL....

EDIT: Also for pouches and traveling, just buy any 3DS case and it will fit/suffice. I use this https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01J75ZEHM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00DWXUYN0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this one for at home https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00VB0I8U2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/stacked_crooked · 2 pointsr/3DS

I bought the Skinomi Full Body Screen Protector for my 3DS. I read a lot of the reviews and heard mostly positive stuff. A very small number of people claimed that it could damage the 3DS, but from my experience, possible damage is not an issue. Although application was tedious because of a lack of a diagram, all of the panels applied evenly and without much issue. Now my entire 3DS is protected and has a nice light sheen to it.

If you just care about the screens, then there's also a Skinomi variant that just has the protectors for the screens. A lot of people like the HORI protectors too, although personally I can't say whether or not they are good. Hope this helps, and I hope you find what you are looking for.

u/Grinch89 · 1 pointr/3DS

I am also curious about this. I have the original version - well, it's this one:

Sold by AFUNTA

Although I think it's the same product - the logo on the box says "KJH" and I found it on Gearbest, so I'm guessing FYOUNG is just another reseller (would love someone to confirm this)

I might be the minority on this, but I've never had the plastic tabs chip on my original grip. I remove the system all the time when changing games, and although it's inconvenient, I care more about the comfort. I play with headphones 99% of the time, so the little speaker cutouts they added to the new model don't matter much to me either.

Does this new grip actually feel better? And is it as durable as the old model? There seems be a lot of reviews on this "updated" one with comments about crappy build quality concerning the plastic parts, so that's a bit concerning.

u/NelsonMinar · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

For comparison, the price of a new Nintendo Switch Dock on Amazon is now $155.99. I can't even find the Nintendo branded dock new on any other sites, but last I looked the best I could find was like $70. Did Nintendo simply stop making docks entirely and abandon it?

I finally gave up and bought a dongle adapter for $22 branded YCCTEAM. You also have to buy a separate charger and cables so it ends up being $50 or so. $30 from Best Buy is a good deal. Update the linked dongle doesn't work for me, can't recommend it.

u/pikachuuuuu · 2 pointsr/3DS

Do you want like a carrying case or one that actually snaps onto the 3DS to protect it?

For the former, I have this and it works really well. For the latter, most people recommend the clear Hori case.

I used this generic hard plastic case for a long time and really liked it. They come in a variety of colours too if you do some searching. It says "rubberized" but it's not rubber at all, just slightly transparent hard plastic. I recently switched to this one (also available in a variety of colours) and it looks really nice, but it makes the WiFi act funny if I'm too far from the router.

u/catsaremyreligion · 2 pointsr/3DS

I just went with this one. Yeah it's a little clunky, but it's one solid color and offers really good protection. I've been happy with it.

u/josephrooks · 1 pointr/nds

I googled "DS Charge Stand Hori" and an Amazon seller came up. The thing also has pretty good reviews there, and it's not too expensive!

I own one of those "controller grip" accessories for my 3DS to use with games that don't use the CPP for this reason. I have to assume they'll come out with ones for the new one too, and I'd highly recommend one.

I don't know if this one in particular will be remade for the New 3DS but this is what I own and use and adore currently: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CIHJ67G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Youngheezy182 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I would reccomend this case. its the one i was using before i won a free deluxe case thing on a reddit giveaway. unfortunately it doesnt have much extra space for any other controllers, just the switch, joycons, and games. if youre looking for a bigger case go with this one

I’ve been considering getting something like this for when I’m on the go so I can hookup to a friends tv.

Understand that it's cheap and easily found because it's so commonly duped. Be careful when you go to buy one that you don't overpay for a fake.

Hello All,

What is the consensus on using powered usb c adapters instead of a dock? Does it make a difference if you use an official power supply?

Something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Adapter-Nintendo-Compatible-MacBook-Samsung/dp/B07DYHJYDW/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Thank you!

I've seen some listings (particularly on Ebay) for this one that looked pretty shady. Does anyone have experience with this buyer?

Or with a different dock?

I have a N3DSXL and use This Case... understandably you probably wont want link but my SO has the pikachu version... anyways I can fit my N3DSXL, 6 carts, and my USB wire in the case nicely... though I have a travel Port in my backpack at all time for charging cell phones, ipads, and my 3ds when needed

Edit: oops... didnt mean for the bot to show up

I've purchased both of these products, and my favorite would have to be the 2nd link. However, I have a white version of it that i found on Ebay. The biggest flaw with it would be that you have no access to the Stylus. The first case however is a nice holding case also and you'll have access to everything, but i was just never a big fan of Silicon materials.

u/ruffyreborn · 1 pointr/3DS

I have that, and I pair it with this because I'm super paranoid. I heard people who got scratches for removing the case or because dirt got under the case.
