Those are my new favorite winter tire by far, but they wear down quick on pavement on the summer.
If you ever need a good tire for summer look into these https://www.amazon.com/Hankook-Dynapro-Performance-Radial-Tire-275/dp/B01KKWTSAA/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=dynapro+atm&qid=1572248975&sr=8-1
We run them on most of our trucks too. They have the mountain snowflake symbol as well so they are rated for ice, but in my experience they dont do anywhere near as good at the coopers but they wear like iron. They do sorta plug up with mud but great if you're mostly driving on pavement.
Make sure if you get some dynapros they are the ATMs and not the regular dynapro, they have different rubber compounds
Good luck!
Yeah, sounds like it. Check Amazon. I can get 4 Sumis in 18/55/235 for about $125 a piece and then installed at Costco for $60-80. Costco is definitely not the place to get tires.
Edit: They're actually cheaper now. Here's the exact tire I bought about 2 years ago:
https://smile.amazon.com/Sumitomo-Tire-HTR-Performance-Radial/dp/B00ZA2NJRE/ref=sr_1_1?crid=23XBVU1XDMN8H&keywords=sumitomo+235%2F50r18&qid=1569895351&s=gateway&sprefix=sumitomo+235%2Caps%2C221&sr=8-1
So, Getting them mounted at Costco, out the door price is somewhere around $500, including tax on Amazon.
You also may have 19/20 inch tires that are probably a million miles wide considering you own an X5. Might add a little to the price tag. In any case, Costco is a great place, but not for tires. I don't ever get road-hazard protection because it's a waste of money on anything less than $175 a tire. Usually road-hazard is something like 10-25 bucks per tire.. Well if the tire itself is under $125 who cares? I'll just buy two new ones and keep the old undamaged one as a spare.
FYI These Sumis are the best tires I've ever owned, hands down. XL Load rated, nice stiff sidewall, still grippy after 30K.
I have 70K on my 2013. My first set of tires only lasted about 35K, the second set are still on the car and look like they could go another 35K. I bought the car used with 16K miles on it, so I don't know how the car was driven for half of the life of the first set of tires. I drive in Sport mode 100% of the time and tend to be a little aggressive with my accelerations. I rotate the tires front-to-back about every 5K miles (I'm due for that now actually...)
I replaced the factory tires with Michelin Primacy MXV4 Radial Tire - 215/55R17 94V and I try to keep them inflated at 40-42 PSI. I lost a couple miles in range when I switched to these tires, but noise levels and handling improved, so it was well worth it to me.
If you can do the install yourself, you can actually grab a set for under $1000 online! Here's what I run:
Front 255/35/18
https://www.amazon.com/Toyo-Proxes-Plus-Performance-Radial/dp/B00900YLKG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536028104&sr=8-3&keywords=255+35+18+toyo
Rear 285/35/18
https://www.amazon.com/Toyo-Proxes-Plus-Performance-Radial/dp/B008DZ7QUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536028118&sr=8-1&keywords=285+35+18+toyo
But yeah the Z is definitely a car you don't want to run bald tires on haha. I live in North Florida, so I feel you on the heavy rain. This car is so willing to break traction in the rain and can be prone to oversteering sometimes when that happens. My local Facebook group always has people crashing their cars whenever it rains and they even put PSAs on the page when it rains telling people not to drive hahahaha
So it looks like 02 Cougars shipped with both 16 and 17 inch tire options. So that's where the confusion comes in.
Here are some Kumho's that will fit your wheels for sub $90.
However, you are able to put other sizes on if you would like. I am just some guy on the internet, so don't necessarily trust everything I have to say, but you'd probably get away with throwing on some 55's or 60's with little if any rubbing. This will throw off your speedometer by <3mph, but it is possible. I only bring this up because 55's are my cutoff for what I consider low profile and are usually a fair amount cheaper. Tirerack.com has loads of 215/50/16s for cheap. Even some decent ones like the Kumho Sense and the Ecsta's.
I'll probably get someone on here telling me I'm giving you bad information, and like I said, I'm just some guy on the internet, so don't blindly trust me. But I've been working on cars for about 10 years, had a few years in a tire shop, and this is the information I have brought with me. Take it with a grain of salt.

Are these good tires for the price?
If you don't buy them at Tesla they are affordable.

Thank me later.
I bought Continental ExtremeContact DWS based on a recommendation I found in this sub. Got them on smile.amazon.com. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QGZLH6/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can't read the exact size though.
I'd guess maybe you could sell them for about half of what they cost new if in mint condition. Maybe more maybe less depending on demand for those wheels, demand for that size/bolt pattern and how fast you want them gone of course.
Atturo AZ850 275/40/20 all around. You will not find a better tire for the price. 275s for a square setup for rotation too.

These look bad ass on mine. The front are 90W and rear is 97W.
