My girls got these for their first birthday and love them! They also got a few go go smart animals that they like carrying around (although they don't have much interest in the track yet) there are also cars. Books are always a good idea as well, and at that age they're just starting to be able to understand puzzles
Not sure if you're still running this contest, but, on the lower end of the money spectrum, I really like this Pogo Foam Jumper for 4 and 5 year olds. It's a great way for them to burn energy and get some exercise inside or outside!
