You have it correct. Change those things for 12v and add the stator for charging at lower RPMS. You can get by without it if you take off your battery after every ride to let it charge on a tender.

You can get that negative space if you want. You will need to remove the airbox (which removes the place to hold the battery) and replace it with a filter of your choice (I am using a cone K&N of the right diameter to fit my carb. It has it's own rubber mount that fits to the carb then you fix it there with a hose-clamp). Then I added one of these : https://www.amazon.com/Uni-Filter-UP-103-Clamp-Breather/dp/B000OO0XLS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492453036&sr=8-1&keywords=Uni+Filter+UP-103+1%2F2%22+Clamp-On+Breather

to the crankcase breather. The stock one is not a filter but instead a rubber hose that connects to the airbox. So on the stock setup you have Carb -> Airbox and Airbox -> to crank case. You remove the hose and put the little filter on and affix it with the hose clamp that comes with it.

After that you just need to find a new place for your battery. Since you want to have that empty space you can't put it there so that pretty much leaves one option : hide it within the seat or directly underneath it.

I don't know what kind of seat you want but if you end up getting a fibreglass bubble seat like this : http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MzIzWDUwMA==/z/NJcAAOxyUrZSs-25/$_3.JPG?set_id=2 you can hide it in the hump.

Otherwise you just lay it on it's side and have it attached to the bottom of your seat pan. Most of the time people buy aluminum flashing (very thin sheets) and cut+fold the metal into a little box/pan thing for the battery.

Doing this does require you to modify the existing wiring but it's simple you're simply extending the wires for the battery so they can reach the new location and you hide all those wires by tucking them underneath the seat pan.

You have options I think you can make it work :)

I'm still working on my project but I just put on both the K&N filter and the little uni filter on the crankcase and it's starting up and idling fine. I actually couldn't get it to idle with the stock airbox but it does with my new setup so that's a bonus :) But I will probably still need to tune the carb with a new jetting. Please understand that if you change your airbox and do like I have done you might need to re-jet your carb. It's not very expensive to do that though and there is a service off of ebay and amazon that is very good for that. Here's a quick video I uploaded hope you can view it : https://streamable.com/uuyc9

Note: I replaced the OEM muffler with a dunstall replica from Ebay which has no interior baffling or fibreglass packing. Sounds beastly for a single cyl but I will be putting in either a baffle or some fibreglass packing to reduce the Db level as it is very loud and you won't impress no one sounding like a bat out of hell on a 125cc :P

I've been at it since 2001, and I rarely clean anything.

I keep my humidifier tank rinsed out and replace it when it looks like it needs to be replaced. Every couple of years.

I put an intake filter on the back of the machine. I buy sheets of fine filter foam and cut to size, replace when they get dusty and a quick rinse doesn't seem to do anything.

I put an inline filter between the hose and mask. I change it when it gets gray. Usually about a month, but it depends on whether it's dusty in the room, or windows are open, or its pollen season.

The hose I'll rinse out occasionally, replace every few years, or if it gets cracks or holes in it (cats!).

I use wipes to wipe off the oil around the nasal prongs. I replace the prongs when they stop sealing even after washing with a little soap and water.

edit: added links

Unless you're living in a really bad environment, it takes a lot less cleaning and replacement is a lot less strict than the medical supply companies want you to think--they want to put you on a set-it-and-forget-it replacement schedule, particularly if your insurance company picks up all the costs.

Mine doesn't, I have a high deductible which I haven't met in years, so I just take care of my supplies myself. The best thing I did for my sleep apnea was to lose weight. I still need the machine but it's not nearly as dire as when I first started out.

Good luck to you!

ahh, sure so if you can force air in through filters you get only clean air in, sure, what sort of fans and cases are good for that? because I guess you need some decent intake fans to pull air through the foam filters? (this is like what my case has, fairly thin so air moves through it) https://www.amazon.com/Uni-Filter-BF-2-30-PPI-Coarse/dp/B000ONZT5Y

Thanks! Really helpful. Both are actually available online from Amazon.

Yup, I determined I had the 69 mm valves before ordering.

I will do all that with the carb tomorrow. I do have a main and pilot jet kit for when the BBK is installed.

I ordered these 2 filters to see which one worked best. Are they considered 'cone'?

I've had good experience with Uni pods. Dip them in a bit of oil before installing and it'll give you a more favorable flow resistance. http://www.amazon.com/Uni-Pod-Filter-Kit-Chrome/dp/B000GZMZKC/ref=sr_1_10?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1417452486&sr=1-10&keywords=uni+filter

u/elkster88 · 5 pointsr/motorcycles

Run it without the air filter. If it starts and runs OK, buy a new air filter and apply oil as directed (if it uses oil, some foam types do and some don't). Over-oiling can clog the filter and make the engine not run well if at all.

It is an '82 XS400 special. It ran from 77 to 82. I have drag bars, but left all the cables the original length. The horn bracket got flipped upside down so I could access it/install a new one. I made a bracket that attaches to the bar running down in front of the engine to hold to LED fog lights, run by an auxiliary switch. Painted and wrapped the headers and have emgo shorty mufflers. Emgo pod filters, and a puck-style filter for the breather tube nipple. Led tails, led indicator lights, Upgraded headlight. Point of note on the headlight, mine was a sealed beam halogen. So to add a new bulb you have to buy an aftermarket reflector housing from candlepower.

EDIT: Also forgot Oury grips, cafe mirrors, new fuel lines, fuel filter and vacuum tube.

It's fairly important.

Dust acts as an insulator, and as more builds up, it will slowly and progressively reduce the effectiveness of fans and radiator fins.

Filters greatly help reduce dust buildup, though they do restrict airflow a small amount.

You can McGuyver up some from foam like this stuff and a pair of scissors, and put it in front of intake fans for desktops. I put mine in front of the metal 'cage' that my intake fan is behind, and then closed the front panel over it. It works well.

For my laptop, a used dryer sheet (don't use a fresh one, I have no idea what the fabric softener stuff will do) trimmed to size and taped over the fan intake on the outside of the case works well. It can be hidden if you're willing to open the laptop and put it in the inside of the bottom plate of most laptops. (Mine comes off as 1 piece, exposing all of the internals).

u/humble_shaman · 1 pointr/vintagemotorcycles

Any idea if you used the 3/8 or 5/8 one? My engine is currently running a bit rich, that's why I'm looking into this. Figured there wasn't enough air getting in.

u/Eatfudd · 2 pointsr/SVRiders

K&N filters are popular. I got lucky and scored one for 6 bucks but it's still only 12 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E2CVDI/

u/JustBelowTheSurface · 1 pointr/motorcycles

No leaks! There is a machine shop in Wisconsin that sells via Amazon for under $200 - raw aluminum, fantastic look! I'll see if I can dig up their link for you.

I would go to ex500.org and register on the forums first. Anyways here's my top mods:

  • Replaced clutch springs with stiffer ones - this helps at higher RPMs because the stock ones start weak and get weaker with age $10.80

  • Replaced rear shock with stocker from a new gen ninjette because it's a lot stiffer and raises the bike a bit $49.99

  • Removed the pair system because it does nothing good and with exhaust it makes popping noises $15.00

  • K&N air filter installed and drilled 4 Half Inch holes in the left side of airbox $49.99

  • Airbox mod requires carb tweaking so I opened up the carbs and rebuilt them for reliability $45

  • Got some shorty levers 36.99

  • Replaced stock ignition with Coil on Plug type ignition for an '08 ZX6R - prices vary but i got mine for 40 bucks including harness.

  • New sparks gapped at .30" $8.10

  • Higher quality front brakes $32.00

  • Oil changed to Shell Rotella T $19.16

  • Avon Roadrider tires big upgrade over stock. Prices vary I got mine for 350 installed both front and rear

  • Best for last: Racetech .90kg/mm springs with gold valves $300

u/ivanmarcoy · 1 pointr/DIY

Ah ok. That makes sense. In terms of open cell foam, do you think this would be adequate? I would most likely want to cut and adhere the material to the inside walls of the compartment, right?

u/mr_mooses · 1 pointr/MINI

That's only for the r56, as the airbox is at the rear of the engine bay squeezed behind the engine bay and the firewall. I've heard nothing but good things about it though, I don't think the rain would be an issue unless you were running under a waterfall. They do make dry filter wraps that you could use to prevent water intake if you're super worried though.

Although, i was thinking r53 vs r56s, i didn't notice this was for an r50.

u/agentsmith907 · 2 pointsr/suggestapc

4GB should be enough. If not, it is one of the easiest upgrades to do on a PC.

You can also add a dust filter to your pc.

my vote is go with oem filter

the Japanese are very precise in their engineering.

But i do know K&N has filters that will fit both Honda and Kawasaki.

u/Arcoril · 6 pointsr/cars

Don't get gouged by the dealership on filters. The OEM fleece filters are manufactured by Mann and you can find them on Amazon for a discounted price: Mann 718/5x.

u/funnythebunny · 2 pointsr/Harley

Amazon Prime has the K&N delivered in one day... unless you can't wait :/

Alternative, here's a list of all filters that will cross reference to the factory installed part # 63731-99A

u/zrad603 · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

whats the type you get?
I just did some googling, I think something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Uni-Bulk-Fine-Foam-Filter/dp/B000WJJA0U
is what I'd use.
The filter material I'm thinking of is very course, you can pretty much see through it. But servers that have been running for over 4 years with these filters in very dusty environments have kept running fine, (and the inside of the server is clean) but I need to wash the filter out almost every month because it will be caked with dust and dirt.

The other thing I've seen is these:
http://www.computerdust.com/products/cpu_covers.html

u/lackimagination · 1 pointr/CafeRacers

Close up.

Stock intake plenum, ABS toilet plumbing (new), 70mm UNI filter.

u/TreeStumps · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I've got the same bike, I use this oil: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008MISDH4

With the K&N oil filter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000E2CVW4

And as for the air filter I stick with the OEM one, you can find it for about $16 online.

u/halfcamelhalfman · 1 pointr/motorcycles

8 bucks on Amazon

u/catherineirkalla · 3 pointsr/TaoTao

The one that I've seen the most in tutorial videos is like this but I would expect them all to be similar. For my bike, I would need an extension tube to use it because the way the frame is designed but I'm probably going to swap my stock airbox to something similar in the next couple months

u/SgtBrowncoat · 1 pointr/XTerra

Also pick up some fuel line from NAPA and one of these in the correct size. I can't remember if you need 5/16 or 1/4. One is for the diff, the other is for the charcoal cannister.

u/LoCoIR · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

An example of a helpful comment from someone else here. Take a lesson.

I have no issue, being, told im wrong. But it needs to come with being shown the error in my ways. As you can see, this guy showed me that the filter can be had cheaper than I thought instead of just telling me I'm a cheap bastard.

Bye.

Other guy's post--> Run it without the air filter. If it starts and runs OK, buy a new air filter and apply oil as directed (if it uses oil, some foam types do and some don't). Over-oiling can clog the filter and make the engine not run well if at all.
