they make workout bikini tops, basically sports bras that don't stretch out or disentegrate in chlorine which essentially binds everything up a bit (i don't currently need all that much). Thinking this or this one currently. I've always had an infatuation for competition suits as I've been on swim teams and life-guarded throughout my younger life before figuring out the trans stuff, and I love the sporty look to them.

And rashguard is basically a swim shirt generally popular with surfers so it's almost a socially acceptable way to wear a shirt in the water without having any obvious reason to feel self conscious. They come both tight and loose, though at some point in the future I'd much rather feel more comfortable in this ;-p

If you're going to the beach buy a rash guard. It's what you'd wear surfing but they're becoming more and more common because they work better than the best sunscreen. Be sure to buy up a size or two b/c they run tight.

How cold is "way too cold"? It sounds like other people are using it, but kids are nutty and seem to tolerate crazy cold temps. If it's just a bit too cold (e.g., you can get in it, but it's too cold to stay in for long), you could try something like an "insulated swim top", which will keep your core a little warmer, but won't help your extremities. Something like this. If it's too cold for something like that, you might consider getting a cheap wetsuit made for surfing, boating, paddling, fishing, etc. Triathlon/swim wetsuits obviously tend to put a premium on factors that are important for long distance swimming, like shoulder mobility and low friction. You'll have a lot more choices for budget suits if you're not focused on triathlon suits. E.g.: https://www.rei.com/product/115458/oneill-hammer-2mm-spring-wetsuit-mens

  • Apply a coat of sunscreen before you leave your hotel/house. Let it dry in before you go outside. Sweating before it dries means that it comes right off.

  • Apply another coat of sunscreen when you get to the dock/dive site/beach/etc. Again, try to do this in the shade or in air conditioning so it can dry in

  • Rashguards are your friend

  • Reapply sunscreen throughout the day

I really like this sunscreen by Alba. It's a little expensive and it's thicker than most other products, but it works really well, it's broad-spectrum protection, and it's paraben-free (if you're into natural products).

I’ve looked all over town for rash guards in the past - they’re around but tbh Amazon, Zappos and Nordstrom had the best selection (for women at least)

heres one for $20

Damn man buy a uv blocking shirt

I bought some of these and survived a trip to the Caribbean with my little ones. I just put uv face cream on, and reapplied sunscreen to my face maybe once every two hours.

Then a spritz of sunscreen on my shoulders and wore that shirt in and out of the ocean. Worked like a charm, and maybe one third of the people were wearing them too!

Random question on RVCA rash guards. I kinda like them because of the clean branding without crazy photos or anything.

So in pretty much all BJJ specific rash guards brands (from Tatami to Hypnotik to Hayabusa that I recall) I've been a M. In casual clothing I'm a Small and Medium t shirts, etc generally are too large.

In RVCA (like this or this) would I go with my BJJ rash guard sizing of Medium, or casual brand sizing of Small? I'm not sure how their clothing sizes out.

Anyone thinking about it, Rash guards are 1000x better than a regular t shirt for swimming and don't feel like a cotton t shirt sticking to you

Here's a cheap one I found for men on amazon. I don't know much about the brand, though.

u/Libida · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

It's the swim shirts surfers wear.

Edit this is one

I did not not realize it's men's one but they make the for ladies too. Mine zips up which is convenient because I breast feed.

Most colored ones will not go see through on you. This is the one I just bought for my son, in a much smaller size of course. https://www.amazon.com/Kanu-Surf-Rashguard-Shirt-Charcoal/dp/B00FQE3YSU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1524311630&sr=8-5&keywords=men%27s+swim+shirt

I wear a surfer's rash guard and men's trunks over a one-piece. I sail way more often than I swim, but I wear the same thing in the pool.
