• Rockwell 6s with Stainless Steel Stand - Go big or go home right? Shaved on 1 setting and as said, no discomfort. Shaving sides and top of the head was easy enough but barely cut anything at all in the back simply because I haven't developed the muscle memory to hold the razor at a proper angle. Hopefully it develops fast enough so I can give disposable razors a kick for good.

• NIVEA Smooth Daily Moisture Body Lotion - Does equally as well as the Aveeno lotion I had been using but dries faster and has a nice scent.
  
• 24 Scented Glycerin Soap Bars - So far using the oatmeal scent and it smells better than the lathering soap and lotions. Bathroom smells really good for quite a while after a shower.
  
  That's everything really. Thought I'd link what I bought and why or what I think of it now that I have it.
  

A few thoughts:

• I love my teeny weeny Simpson Wee Scot brush. It's about the length of a man's pinky, and seems like a gimmick at first. But its a great brush.
  
  
• If he hasn't tried slant shaving and you have a little cash to spend, I hear great things about the Ikon 102. (You can also just buy the 102 slant head, it will screw on to any standard razor handle.
  
  
• He might enjoy a travel razor or travel kit. There are lots of fun ones on eBay. (The Gilette Travel Tech is a nice one.)
  
  
• More soaps are always nice. Maggard sells all kinds of soap samplers, and some build your own sample sets. (If he doesn't have any, I'm a recent convert to Maggard's own soap brand. Great stuff.)
  
  
• If he uses shaving oil, I love Cold Spring Apothecary's shaving oil
  
  
• How about a stand for his daily shave tools? I have one similar to this that was a gift from my wife.

Parker and Merkur make good razors. They're more expensive than something like you could get from Maggard but if you have free gift cards, what the hell.

Razor - Long handled Merkur

I have this Parker brush and I love it. It is pricy and doesn't really fall under "starter" or "budget" labels but it is a nice, soft brush. If you don't want to spent that much or you want boar there are plenty of other options out there.

Tons of blade samplers out there. Pick the one that fits your budget.

I recommend a cream to start with as opposed to a soap. Creams are super simple to build lather with. TOBS is always a good choice. My favorite from them is Eaton College. but they have SEVERAL scents in their lineup.

And as for a cup to mix the shaving cream? Don't bother buying one just use a short mug it's much easier

Also, think about it this way, when you are using a regular 4 bladed razor you need to go over each spot at least 2 times right? That's as if 8 individual razors went over that spot. With a single blade you usually get every hair in one pass but sometimes you need 2-3 but still, 2-3 is less that the original 4 so you're regardless way less likely to get razor burn

It's a bit more money but IMO much nicer looking / worth it. Also holds a razor. Your brush is apparently 28mm knot and so is my omega pro, which this holds but it's a bit snug. (I hold the bristles in so they don't get bent as I slide it onto the stand). It says it will hold a 26mm brush. Italian barber sells a similar one that says it will hold a 28mm

I bought my dad a similar one from IB as a gift. It looks nice but the base isn't as heavy as it should be. Not sure if this one is the same. My Amazon one is a lot more stable than the one I got him from IB.

Shaving stand is one of those things that somewhat divides peoples opinions. I'm personally strongly of the opinion that the shaving stand isn't necessary. Here is a very recent thread about it. I suggest you read the comments through. Of course if you want you can get the stand.

Any reason as to why you are looking products from ebay. The best places to order from in Europe are Connaughtshaving.com (UK), Shaving.ie (Ireland), and Gifts & Care (Spain). They all ship worldwide and belong to EU, so if you are ordering from EU you don't have to worry about customs.

I would look into Omega/Semogue boar brushes or Muhle synthetic brushes.

I have an Omega which I'm pretty happy with but I wanted one with a wooden handle to match the blade handle. So, after some mild digging on Amazon, I came up with these

I wanted to stay on the cheaper side given the cost of the DE being a bit high because I have to buy six of them so these seem like they're going to fit the bill quite nicely.

As for soaps, I'm still working that out. I have sensitive skin but I don't know about the rest of the crew. I use This Stuff which I like but I'm not in love with.

The brush by itself is an omega 13522, and the brush in the stand is a maggard synthetic 22mm. That maggard is a great brush. The razor if you care is an ikon x3 slant.

Consider starting with a a "Perfecto" razor (really a great price razor) then keep that razor squeaky clean (take it apart and wash it after each shave) to keep the bacteria that causes your breakouts. Then wash your face with lots of soap and water to keep the body oils from plugging you pores between shaves. Yes, in time all the oils will go away as you get older. Then buy you straight razor. I got a brush from u/geekyoldrob that I absolutely love. He sells batches of brushes on his etsy shop that are top quality. for stand I just use a Razor stand I got from amazon. as for Razor I bought a Rockwell 6S off one of my buddies who didnt want it and have been pretty much in love with that. In all honesty though I have not used many razors so I am maybe not the guy to reccommend razors.

I would start with the $10 VDH boar hair set. It sells at my local WalMart for $8.95. If you don't like any of it, at least you aren't out much.

Then upgrade pieces one at a time, and spend some time with each new piece. Decide if it's an upgrade for you or not (a lot of DE shaving comes down to personal preference).

Buy the Tweezerman badger hair brush and see if you prefer that over boar. This brush works well with the VDH bowl listed above. I would also get a brush stand at this point. Some of them are pretty cheap. The wood handle of the Tweezerman may warp if you dry it handle side down (water drains down the bristles and rests on the wood).

Get a blade sampler pack at some point and try out new blades. Shavers that are much more experienced than I swear that the best blade in a particular razor is often different from one person to another.

And the list goes on. I love this hobby, because it makes shaving pleasant and is so very customizable.

So I have a short beard for the past 3 years and I feel like when I'm cleaning it up it's about time I did it right. So I've bought a heap of recommended stuff over the past couple weeks I've seen people on here recommend. It's not all here yet but once it is...

A 4-slot toothbrush holder can be an economical way to hold 3-4 razors. You can also find "razor stands" on Amazon that are basically toothbrush holders being resold as razor stands. Something like this:

You'd have to measure the diameter of the handle of your razors to make sure they'd fit, but they look clean on a counter and you could rearrange them to suit your needs.

Hey guys! After a year of using my PdP 63 puck 2019 has found me low key addicted to wet shaving. Aside from the mountain of soaps I have now collected I have started to accrue a small collection of brushes. My issue is my current shave stand is not wide enough to hold my Yaqi or WildWest Brushworks brushes without deforming the knot. My Semogue 630 fits fine, but nothing else does! Does anyone have a recommendation for a stand that would accomodate wider brushes? I really prefer to leave them hanging after use and dont have the spare time to build something I'd like. Any suggestions are appreciated, thank you!

I do the same rinsing/clean up routine but I'd avoid the cupboard as it may prevent everything from properly airing out. For the brush and razor get a stand so they can air dry (https://www.amazon.com/Perfecto-Deluxe-Black-Razor-Brush/dp/B00T8FS73U/) is what I got.

For the lathering part one thing that has a major impact is how much water you have on the brush. Swirling with just the hairs slightly bent is enough but if you have too much water it will be thin with large bubbles. If you have too little water it will get dense bubbles but not have enough moisture to properly protect your face.

Lastly for the Adams' Apple area I've found starting with the razor at a 90 degree angle to your skin and then making passes while slowly decreasing the angle can help you find the 'sweet spot' for that part of your face. I have areas that cut great with a 30 degree angle and some areas that need 45+ degrees to avoid nicking. Just take the time to learn how your face and neck contours flow and it'll become quick habit.

It is a nice set up to being with. My word of advice: take your time on your first shave to get used to this way of shaving.

Looks good. If you grow a beard every so often and have a thick one at that consider getting an open tooth razor. Also you might want to consider getting a mustache razor. These are great for getting under the nose or shaping a goatee or whatever. If you get both another stand might be needed.

I use it mainly to let my brush hang bristle-down to dry. I've read on here that if you leave it with the handle down and bristles pointing up then water can get into the root of the knot and soften the glue and cause the knot to fall out. Not sure how true this is, but I like the look of having the stand and for $9 I don't want to ruin a brush. I also like keeping my razor off the counter, but as mentioned by others, that's just aesthetics.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but i just decided to hop on the band wagon and after a little research and time i went ahead and bought all the gear to start shaving proper. Does your bathroom have adequate lighting for shaving? Can you see what your are doing? Do you drink water? Would you say you are hydrated?

If so, get these supplies from whichever supplier you prefer. You don't need to get them from Amazon, they just tend to have the most product information. I went with This Stand It's a little pricy, but it looks nice, and it works well, I had to cut little gasket type pieces of cardboard and put them in the base only to apply a little pressure, so the padded non slip base part stuck below the rest of the base, but it I'm happy with it. No experience parkers, but that's the same brush I used and it's quite a bargain.

All you need is one of these: Merkur HD Slant Safety Razor 37C and a box of these: 100 Feather Razor Blades NEW Hi-stainless Double Edge and you are set for a long time.

I shave two or three times a year, whether I need to or not (got to stay employed!), so I will most likely die before I make it through all my razors, but even if I shaved daily (the horrors!) I would still go this route. A dollar shave is an expensive shave!

Add a shaving brush, a mug, some soap, and a stand. If you know a better way to shave, that doesn't involve Peter Dinklage standing on the counter and doing it for you, then I want to hear about it.

Edited to add: A shave should be a pleasure. If you are not enjoying it, then you are doing it wrong.

The razor is a Lord L6 and the stand is a Colonel Ichabod Conk.

The brush and mug were purchased from the local Farmer's Market from a nice lady who makes homemade soaps. The soap is a disc in the mug and it is amazing. It is Bay Rum scent made with all sorts of oils and since I started using it over shave gel to shave with I have no razor burn or irritation. I am excited to do my first wet shave tomorrow!

as far as other tips, i scoured this and the badger and blade website for hours to try and figure out what would work. so my advice would be to replicate what i got. but the interesting thing is that everyone has different opinions -- even down to what razor pack to buy -- so at some point you just need to get something and see how it works. but, for instance, i got the edwin jagger de because i was about to get a muhle and realized they were identical aside from the $40 price difference.

I just bout a stand off amazon for about $18. its chrome, holds my razor and brush. Look nice and does it's job.

Something to think about. The chrome stand will smudge and develop very apparent residue so it will look nice and shiny at first but quickly become a bit dingy looking. There's a matte black stand that gets around this issue. Also, if you still have some money left over maybe sampler of artisan soaps from Maggard Razors?

No, they serve no purpose other than aesthetics. That being said, if you want one, get one. Hell I've got one that came to me in a trade you can have if you'll cover shipping. It's just one of the basic chrome jobs.
