That's a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. It's far from being expensive, but it's not some piece of crap either.

u/spacedout83 · 21 pointsr/hardware

I know you may be seeking a <$50 keyboard for budget reasons, but getting a nice, quality keyboard (and mouse) is, IMO, one of the most important things to consider with one's PC. Since they keyboard is something you physically interact with almost constantly while using your computer (especially if you're a gamer), skimping on it will often leave you dissatisfied & seeking a different keyboard in 6-12 months.

I'm not a gamer, but I do a lot of typing so I bought myself the Logitech Ultrathin Illuminated Keyboard two years ago and I consider it the best $80 I spent on my computer.

u/DCbusy · 5 pointsr/gamingpc

this is what i use its very thin plus it has back lighting. I'd say its decently silent, comparable to a laptop keyboard.

u/M_Cicero · 5 pointsr/buildapc

I use a Logitech ultra-thin illuminated keyboard. It has 3 different levels of backlighting, etched keys (so they don't rub off over time), and useful function buttons. It also has scissor style keys, meaning they feel like a laptop, which is what I prefer. If your friend likes quiet laptop keys better, this is a great choice.

u/baddox · 4 pointsr/battlestations

+1 for SC2 (-0.5 for watching rather than playing) ;)

+1 for this lamp (I have the same one)

+1 for the Les Paul

+1 for the keyboard (I have the same one)

u/bumwine · 3 pointsr/buildapc

At work I use this one

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Ultrathin-Keyboard-Backlighting/dp/B001F51G16

Which is really nice for a non-mechanical keyboard (well, it uses scissor-switches which are slightly better than rubber) and the backlighting can be lowered to a nice subtleness. If I had to use a non-mechanical, I'd use that one, I haven't found a better one to be honest.

I also have the Corsair k90 at home which has blue LED backlights on each key, its a nice keyboard all around. It uses red keys so it doesn't have a click.

u/A_Neaunimes · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I already searched a keyboard with the same kind of requirements (but with a more strict budget) and couldn't find anything. You'll have all sort of blue/ green / red backlighting. But plain white is so hard to find.
The only one I remember finding was the Logitech K740.
Of course that's in no way a "gaming" keyboard". So no macro, no nothing. And I can't really vouch for its anti-ghosting capabilities.

In mechanical keyboards, you could also find some, for sub< $100. But even MX Silent switch will be more noisy than any membrane / chicklet keyboard. Because the keycaps hits the metal base when coming down, and because the switch hit itself when coming up violently.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Ultrathin-Keyboard-Backlighting/dp/B001F51G16/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394230029&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+illuminated+keyboard

I use this, both at work and home. Really sleek and a lot more quiet than most keyboards, at a decent price. It's corded, but that makes zero difference to me.

Only flaw is that if a key pops off, it's almost impossible to pop back on. Our cleaner that sweeps through the office wipes the keyboard like a drunk cowboy flailing their hat around in the other hand while kicking there legs as I imagine and knock loose the brackets sometimes. My favorite keyboard, and used it for the last 3-4 years now.

u/joekerr37 · 3 pointsr/writing

If I ever win the lotto I'm going to buy 50 keyboards and review them all for writers :)

[this is the keyboard I use] (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Thin-Keyboard-K740/dp/B001F51G16/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468860500&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=logitech+luminated+keyboard) and I LOVE it.

It's breaking down though and I have to get a new one soon but I'm too scared I'll get something shitty for writing.

as for a smart typewriter... that wouldn't be for me.

u/trompiston · 2 pointsr/keyboards

I found a similar keyboard on Amazon made by HP and I used that to base measurements off of. I do not know what you use your computer for but unfortunately most backlit keyboards are geared to gamers. I've never used any of these keyboards but they are from respected manufactures. If I were you I'd read through a couple reviews on each to get a better understanding of what to expect from the keyboard.

Cooler Master Storm Devastator w/ mouse $29.99

This one is .2" longer, .4" narrower, .4" taller than your current keyboard

Corsair Raptor k30 $39.99

This one is .9" longer, .9" wider, .4" taller.

If you were to up your budget $10.

SteelSeries Apex Raw $49.99

2.97" longer, 2.5" wider, 1.05" taller.

I have used this one and I can say that I didn't care for the keys but I do use a mechanical board so take that with a grain of salt.

If you were to up your budget $25-30. (At this point it might be better to start looking at low end mechanicals.)

Corsair Raptor k40 $59.99

1.8" longer, 2.5" wider, .8" taller

Logitech Illuminated Ultrathin $59.99

I don't think the dimensions for this one are right because Amazon says it's 3 inches tall but it's sold as an ultrathin keyboard?

Microsoft SideWinder x4 $68.80

2.1" longer, 2.4" wider, 1.4" taller

While I agree that good peripherals can really improve your experience, everyone is gonna have different preferences. It depends on what you find comfortable, usable, and even cool.

So I'll just give you my preferences...

Keyboards: Most people love a good mechanical keyboard. You get a nice clicky sound, and most gaming ones come with tons of cool LEDs and macros and options. Depending on the type of gamer you are, these may or may not be overkill.

For me, I just like something quiet and sleek looking. DEFINITELY get one with backlit keys, cause this will make a huge difference playing in the dark. I use the Logitech K740. The other more advanced options will vary person to person. I wish that stores like Best Buy had more gaming keyboards on display to really get a feel for the options out there.

I also would recommend something like the Belkin n52te that I use (which Razer makes now). It's more comfortable, and you can have it in your lap for reclined gaming. Lots of cool options and combos with that one.

Mouse: Again, depending on the type of gamer you are, you may not need twenty buttons on your mouse. Comfort should be the biggest thing here. You're gonna be holding this thing for hours on end. Determine the type of grip that you find comfortable, and find a mouse that's made for it. Or, get a heavily adjustable one like my Cyborg RAT 9.

A lot of ppl criticize wireless mice for their response times or battery lives. But c'mon, even a 50ms response time is negligible to your reflexes. And changing a rechargeable battery every day is not a big deal for most people. I personally hate wired mice.

Headphones: Now here is where the fanboys start chiming in. There are so many brands and qualities and reviews out there that this may be the hardest one. For me, the biggest things are GOOD surround sound, wireless, GREAT bass response, mic/headset attached, and over-ear comfort. I've tried quite a few of these, but I currently have a Logitech G930 set and have been really pleased.

Hope that helps, I'm sure we'll get a lot more opinions here later.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/gaming

Yeah one thing about keyboard/mouse is that its really comfortable....

A controller usually gets sweaty around 30 mins, and uncomfortable around 15-20 mins.

Comparsion of the hand crunch of controllers

vs

Controller: http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/sony_ps4_hands-on_sg_24-M-580x366.jpg

Plus how most people put pressure on the controller especially in shooting games. Your palms not touching the keyboard so your hands can't really get sweaty unless you're an extremely sweaty type of person.

u/lx-s · 2 pointsr/keyboards

Depending on the "lightness" of your gaming, I would recommend the
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard..

I do really like it - I find it nice to type on. it looks good and has really nice backlighting but it has one major flaw:
It has ghosting issues with the key combination w+shift+space.

So I can recommend to you if don't play any FPS games at all.

A Vizio 42" 1080 monitor, the main one is the same thing just a 55". Keyboard is a Logitech, and I absolutley love it! Link Below

It sounds like you're looking for keys with a very short travel, i.e. keys that don't move very far. Is that right? Sounds like a laptop keyboard aka "slim" keyboard is a match for you.

Maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Thin-Keyboard-K740/dp/B001F51G16/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1473934420&sr=1-6&keywords=slim+wired+keyboard

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

I have the same one. Great keyboard if you like flatter laptop-style keys that use the scissor switch. It's pretty pricey though - if you don't need a backlight there are plenty of cheaper models to be had.

u/TerranRepublic · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I believe it is this one.

u/sarge21rvb · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Yeah, i actually had that keyboard as a replacement while I was waiting to get my Illuminated Logitech back, and for the price, it's surprisingly nice! I've got this now, and it's really nice if you don't want a super clicky mechanical keyboard.

u/iseldomwipe · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Awesome setup, but that is NOT a good keyboard for gaming if you play FPS games at all. It can't detect pressing W+SHIFT+SPACE simultaneously, so you can't jump while running on many games.

DiNovo Edge is of course long gone, it was 250USD at launch (probably the most expensive Logitech keyboard ever), and was a niche product that had very little volume.

K740 on the other hand, should be relatively trivial to find. It's still listed both on Logitech US and Logitech SA, and is available from Amazon and eBay. Though finding one that ships abroad might be a chore, I'd suggest you look into local options.

Mechanical keyboards are all the rage these days. Scissors are still membranes, and therefore suffer the same neglect as other membranes, and seen as the same level of product. It's not that surprising that Logitech isn't pouring a lot into new Scissors, though they still came up with the CRAFT.

I've got a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (I'm pretty sure it's a K740) I'd sell for $40 shipped CONUS if you're interested...

I can get some pics up later if you're interested...?

It looks like this

u/Orsenfelt · 1 pointr/buildapc

It's expensive but the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is a nice one. It's like a non-gamer version of the G15. Fairly thin keys but not laptop-like. $64 at Amazon

u/Rehtori · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Logitech K740.

Still occasionally use it. Only problem is that some of the newer ones with new firmware or whatever had pretty bad ghosting problems where you couldn't press W, Shift and Space at the same time.

u/PCMRsinceBIRF · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have this and it makes me feel like I can take over the world, or do some businessey business stuff with great efficiency while I knock back a shot every once in a while, with a smug ass exotic cat in my lap.

u/MaximumAbsorbency · 1 pointr/buildapc

>I prefer low-profile keys (quieter and have had Laptops in forever)

I went with a Logitech K740 because of this reason and I really like it. It isn't the best for gaming, but I do just fine with it.

u/Sir_Vival · 1 pointr/gaming

The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard isn't technically a gaming keyboard, but it's the nicest keyboard I've ever used. I actually type a lot faster on it. It's also backlit. If the LCD and macros are going to just be a novelty, that's what I'd spring for.

u/Starinco · 1 pointr/buildapc

The [Logitech K720] (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Thin-Keyboard-K740/dp/B001F51G16) seems to have good reviews and is backlit. Though, I did read one review (the top one) saying the F keys aren't blacklit.

u/oggusfoo · 1 pointr/funny

This sexy backlit Logitech keyboard has software to disable the function.

u/v-_-v · 1 pointr/techsupport

Logitech illuminated keyboard

One of the best keyboards I have had in a long while. Very sturdy, very comfortable.

A bit pricy on amazon for some reason, seems to be low stock. Wireless version costs nearly $7 less, but u don't want.

Edit: It's not chiclet keys, like the new apple keyboards, but chiclet keys are fairly shit. This is laptop keys, which is just the same for typing comfort, but much better for durability.

If you really wanted a decent, cheap, Chiclet keyboard.

u/LLJKCicero · 1 pointr/cscareerquestions

Elaborate? Are you saying you want a rubber dome keyboard?

If you want something that's not 'mechanical' that doesn't feel like trash, I'm a fan of the Logitech Illuminated keyboard, I got one for work and used to use one at home before I lost it and replaced it with a mechanical one: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-000914-Illuminated-Keyboard-K740/dp/B001F51G16/

Not rubber dome though, IIRC it uses scissor switches, similar to a laptop keyboard.

Logitech Illuminated Ultrathin Keyboard: This is the one I'm currently using and my favorite out of the many I've used over the many computers I've been in.

u/citadel712 · 1 pointr/ReviewThis

I'd suggest the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. It's a scissor-switch kb that looks great, and feels great. I used it for gaming a lot and couldn't be happier until I switched to a mechanical keyboard.

I've been through a slew of keyboards trying to find one I enjoy. I don't need the cherry switches and such that I've got at home.

At work I use a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard and a Logitech G400 mouse. The G400 is an updated to the old and highly regarded MX518.
