Actually it is this video. (In my area, going through the side gable is not up to code.)

This was the kit I bought which made things easy. I wrapped the vent pipe in insulation which I bought at Home Depot.

I watched the video a few times then went to work. Pretty easy.

You could get a gutter downspout Y fitting and then run a flex fitting from there to the perf pipe in the ground. I would make sure that perf pipe is clear and free flowing first though.

Since you own the house and live in a cold area I would suggest getting good pipe flashing and having a roofer install it ($250 or so for the install). You will have 4" PVC running up out of it with some sort of cap. You will want it as close as possible to the fan and going up through the roof vs. out the side of the house under the eaves and possible soffit vents.

For the inside, between the fan and the roof, you will want to have an insulated pipe so you're not building up condensation.

I bought a "cheap" setup on amazon for my greenhouse. ~$175 while the expensive units are about $300. Its not nearly powerful as i wanted but makes my plants dance so i continue to use them

Edit: something else i learned during my search, the roof mounted ones are for boats and RVs

Meh, it should work. You may need to seal the door with fireproof rope and stove cement. I got some at a local stove store when my cubic mini started leaking. It was quite noticeable, the smell, and my co detector noticed too. As another commenter mentioned, having a cracked window is essential to allow draft to evacuate smoke. If you can find it, double wall pipe is way way safer and more functional. It says Pipe Diameter: 3.375", so maybe double wall pipe from the dickinson or cubic mini would work.

Otherwise, I'd recommend putting some chicken wire around the stove pipe, and also make a wire cage all around the stove, because it's impossible to completely avoid clothes/bedding falling on the stove in such a small space, while you're asleep. It's happened to others, and it's one of the reasons I use my china diesel heater while I'm sleeping.

TBH, it's kind of a pain trying to stay warm for 8 hours overnight with a wood stove, while maintaining fresh air. Your stove might be up to the task, but mine is too small (cubic mini cub) so I used to wake up cold af, no matter how low I'd turn it down.

Smoke getting in the van isn't an issue for me, long as you close your fan and crack a window. A propane torch helps to start it up, and those waxy logs from winco/walmart are great for starting a fire with little smoke. Coal produces very little smoke, but a lot of CO and it produces less draft which can make the CO waft in your van if it's not burning strong, with the intake wide open.

To get around clearance requirements in a small space, construct a radiant barrier of two pieces of aluminum/steel sheet, with stacked washers/nuts/etc as spacers, to create an air gap in between the plates. I did this with my stove and the bottom plate under my stove was cold with it running.

For the roof, use a Dektite #3 red hitemp fitting, with some hitemp caulk from ace, and bolt the fitting to the roof before the caulk dries. Leak proof for over a year for me.

Are the spikes being pulled out?

My house was built in the 60s and the metal gutters were looking similar. Tried the screw style spikes with metal ferrules, but that didn't work.

Ended up finding these metal clips with a screw that catch on the outer lip.

5 inch Premium Quick Screw Gutter Hanger with clip (50-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GN9V3GG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3-BTDbPWHBWFJ

Works great.

I also have a set side by side the width of my ladder
('.......'......."..."......'......' if that makes sense)
So I can rest the ladder on the gutter without damage.

Yeah to make the foundation wall waterproof right? But asphalt emulsion does that too with a watertight seal, what is the insultation advantage over the emulsion? I'm talking like https://www.amazon.com/Black-Jack-6190-Foundation-5-Gallon/dp/B000BZ47B2

I have found that leech basins are the best for this. You can get one on amazon that is cheaper. You will have to dig a hole, and drop the leech basin in the hole. Surround the leech basin with pea gravel or another kind of smaller rocks to help the water being held in the leech basin to return to the ground. Make sure the top is just below grade and slope the final dirt toward the lid/drain and you should be all set. Should be able to get this done in a weekend.

u/Pravin_LOL · 2 pointsr/yard

Try one of these on the vertical part of your downspout.

You will have to periodically clean it, but it's much easier than clearing buried drain pipe.

u/boomer754 · 7 pointsr/Homebrewing

Nice work. I did something similar with the same toolbox. If you run into overheating issues, you may find that another hole will help with airflow. I used these louvers.

u/Triabolical_ · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Paint or sealant won't do very much. If you really want to protect it, here's what you use:

http://www.amazon.com/Grace-Vycor-Deck-Protector-x75/dp/B000IUL9NO

Wrap it over the top and down the sides a bit.

u/rcrracer · 2 pointsr/skoolies

Curious to see how much if any air from the hot exhaust migrates into the intake. Pink ribbon test held at various distances between the two holes when grills are/aren't attached? It looks like there is room to enlarge the intake hole higher and if there isn't any air migration, to the right. 100 degree intake might indicate some commingling so maybe not the right. Most of your big gains in performance may have already been made.

Another exhaust vent style.

Benzomatic TS8000 with the large camping propane tanks and if you really want to do it right, add a searzall.

Kenji's steak advice (Step 10A) is to use the torch WHILE finishing on your castiron - Which i find helps a LOT.

u/Watase · 1 pointr/vandwellers

You can mount it through the roof or through the wall. There are a few different ways to do it, but a lot of people get a Silicone Chimney Flashing making it easier.

This worked great for me and was hard to find:

Example of way to keep water out

Roof Protector thingy

Basically the rail system secures it to roof and these protect the screws into the stud from having water. They slide up under the shingles to the point of water shed is on top and can’t get below.

u/Qlanger · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Have you been in the attic to see where its coming from?

Might be from a roof vent that is leaking. Most will last about the life of the roof but could have been damaged during install, squirrels, etc...
Very easy fix with something like these...

I did just that for a GPU rig, though it was fairly gerryrigged. My basic shopping list:

  • Suncast BMS1250 Shed Tool Vertical, 22 cu. ft.
  • Suncast Shelf for Suncast Shed Models BMS1250 and BMS2000
  • Duraflo 620808 Gable Vent, 8-Inch X 8-Inch times 2
  • Holmes Dual Blade Twin Window Fan, White

Assemble the shed and install the shelf, cut two holes in the front doors at the shelf level for the gable vents and one big hole in the back at shelf level for the window fan, and install/wedge items in holes accordingly. Cutting the holes was a pain, I thought a Dremel would work well but it's slow and loud as hell so I ended up using a drywall saw that worked surprisingly well. I ran a cord for a power strip out the back under the fans.

Mine sits at the back of a covered patio that's about 8-10 feet deep, so it's not directly exposed to rain or any significant elements. You might be able to make it work if you've got some overhang and you can put the back of the cabinet up close to a wall where water won't hit the fans too much. I also glued some dust filter material to the inside of the gable vents to help filter dust out, and I blow the setup out every now and then.
u/ceresia · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

That's going to be rough. Will the HOA approve dryer vents on the front of the house? Similar to this here

I know you said NO vents, but it's a dryer vent... :)

Not OP, but:

torch

tank (can be had much cheaper at any home supply or hardware store)
