Sorry I know this is a long post.......I think it all depends on the size for one thing. You can make a bunch fairly cheaply to experiment and see what you prefer. I would recommend this rather than spend $35+/toy for all metal construction. I spend roughly $3/toy before factoring in the cost of the weights.

I used these bearings for $0.55 per bearing x 10 bearings They accidently shipped me 1 bearing but I got it fixed. From here I went to home depot and got some loose ball bearings (5/8") and nuts and made [these with] (http://imgur.com/a/IMJf9) jb weld. The nut one cost me maybe..4-5 bucks 2.82 oz weight. The bearing one cost me more around $6-7 2.29 oz weight. If you do not like an experiment, you can recycle the nut/screw and save yourself about 2.50 I just realized you get 2 per pack, so 1.25 per seton the next one.

Now for ways which I have used them. I do stare at them at times but I can do all of these without looking. I hold toy with my thumb and middle finger on one hand. I will then flick it with index finger of the same hand. For my hands it has to be with a smaller toy. For all other options it can be done with either sized toy.

Hold with index and index/middle finger of one hand. With other hand flick/hit it. Then I will repeatedly hit it with that hand getting it to spin faster and faster.

Hold between thumb and index finger. Flick with other fingers of same hand. It was awkward/weird to begin with but now it is a natural motion.

If your toy is off balance (generally happens with home made ones) you get the "added" way of playing. It isn't a bug, it's a feature! I can't describe it too well. The idea is that you are holding it between two fingers. And then you start it spinning and then move your hand in a small circular motion counter to the side with extra weight. The idea is that you are making it spin without using your other fingers to flick it anymore.

Then from here we go into holding it onto the table and flicking it to spin. I love doing this but if your toy is not balanced it does not work unless you hold it down. Someone brought up using bluetack to hold it but I have not tried this....yet. I need to find mine. If it works, I will have one "permanently" mounted to my desk. I love to flick a spinner on a flat surface but mine are so off balance it goes crazy unless I hold them down. Also overall with all the ways of spinning (minus on the table) it is fun to spin it and move it around. Feel the g-forces on your hand. Damn this got long....I'll stop now.

Order bones redz! They rock, set of 8, use 6, full change on front, just outer on back.... I ordered some ceramics (whole set) for my back set since they come with the inner larger set....

The swap gave me approx +0.5mile on range in expert mode

Used a 1/4 drive socket extension to slide in the wheel to remove the bigger inner bearing ring. I used the axle to remove the other six, but bones makes a good tool and bearing cleaner bottle too

I heard oust bearings are good too. My wheels are skatepark formula, but I would experiment with softer wheels if it made skating concrete pools easier. https://www.amazon.com/Oust-Bearings-MOC-Air-set/dp/B012OZVGKG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474926266&sr=8-2&keywords=oust+bearings

bones "anything" is the best on the market, they range from 13$ for 8 bearings to about 50 bucks, and you wont find anything faster of smoother, these are my favourites though.

My roommate who is a skateboarder said Swiss is the best. The back wheels have a different bearing on the inside so you need 6.

7mm Bushings. This is the cheapest I can find them at the current.

Piston Head: I have three of them in an SL8, a G36, and an Mp5 PDW. They're cheap, and they work

Here are two spring guides for your gearbox: One and Two

I actually two of the SHS guides and one Element guide. I would say that the SHS spring guide is made of nicer material (Steel). The Element one is made out of the same material as your gearbox, assuming its a typical pot metal gearbox. Does this matter? Not really, because the ball bearings are the exact same on both of them. Neither of them will break, ever under normal use.

Bones reds are ok, but they're still somewhat basic when it comes to bearings. These guys and these guys should hold more weight than steel bearings.

About two years ago I bought ceramic bearings that were $99 for 4, but I haven't had to buy another pair since. I can't find the exact brand I bought or I would link it, but they are worth the price!

Pro Tip. These bearings are normal, stock, industrial bearings that you can buy bags for much cheaper. They are just stock industrial 608 bearings. Here it is on McMaster Carr:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-ball-and-roller-bearings/=mp4fkp

Double sealed, $4.80 each so about $20 for a set vs. Bones Swiss which are like $50.

Here's a 100-pack for $50 on Amazon:

Yeah, 608s. I think I used these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUH45DU/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 since I had some left over after making a couple fidget spinners.

Wheels and shock/riser pads are standardized, since all truck baseplates, mounting holes, and axles (not the full axle length, just the part that the wheel goes on) are built to the same specifications (excluding niche specialty parts). However, since increasing wheel diameter decreases the distance between the bottom of your deck and the top of your wheels, adding larger wheels means you have a greater chance for wheelbite. Most cruisers/longboards are build for larger wheels, but if you're using a standart popsicle deck, you'll need to add riser or shock pads. Generally, you can follow this formula to find how big of a riser/shock pad you'll need:
Take the difference between the diameter of the stock wheels that came with your board and your new, larger wheels and divide it by two. The resulting measurement will be the thickness of the pads you need. Keep in mind that if you're using shock pads instead of riser pads, you'll want to add a few millimeters since they'll compress more under strain.

Here's a link to some great rust resistant bearings:

It is way too thick and will collect dirt. Typically thick (high viscosity) lubes are for larger bearings like think tank bearings. The smaller the bearing the thinner (lower viscosity) the lube you want. you want this http://www.amazon.com/Bones-Speed-Cream-Bearing-Lubricant/dp/B000FDO2K6. And petroleum jelly is for humans, I can't .... I don't even....

I just used cheapies from a local skate shop. They're a standardized size - I've removed the shields to add visual appeal. If you want a really long spin time, use ceramic bearings!

IS this what I need to get my wheels onto mmy board? All I have is the wheels and truck I threw away my bearingd and spacers and nug and wachers and everything because while cleaning the bearings the little balls came out and all over the floor so I lost them and decided I'd just buy new ones. So does this set come with the screws I need and everything?

u/hmspain · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

I remember scrambling for those pesky m3 screws… getting the right length etc. I used to buy them at about $.25 each from the local “metric” carrying hardware store! Amazon has these assortments…

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014ONCP88/

And 608 bearings! WTF is a 608 bearing? Again, Amazon comes through…
