They sell these dope ass snow squeegees now that are amazing for both windshields and car tops. They are extendable too. I got mine from Home Depot but they look like this - https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-JMB-SJB-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B07B3LTX39/ref=sr_1_31?crid=ZVQC9LNKC84I&keywords=snow+squeegee&qid=1550800763&s=gateway&sprefix=snow+squ%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-31

Get a brass blade ice scraper. And don't ever curse our state like that again. It's not Michigan's fault that it exists where it does

You are absolutely correct. My preference is a medium shovel, a little wider and a little move curved than the one in the picture.

If the "snow" is heavy as hell slush, you can still move a bit. If it is light, it is no problem. If it is in between, which we call packing snow, it can curl it to produce a good log of snow that is easy to move.

This is the closest I can find:

There are better tools for specific situations, but that is a good single tool for most snow situations.

>>EDIT: I'm thinking about this bad boy and ditching the single stage. Eventually I'll get a two stage as everybody seems to love them.

No - THIS is what you want!
I shovel my entire driveway in about 1/4 the time someone could do it with a snow blower.

Definitely get an Ariens. Did a bunch of research before I bought mine. The common theme was that you buy Ariens when you want something that will do the job, and last.

And get a heavy duty one. Our snow being wet is rough on snowblowers. Look to spend around $1000 to $1200. And buy some silicone or teflon spray (like DuPont or SNO-Jet) while youre at it.

Push broom won't work for me.
All access to the panels is from ground level.
I currently use this rake. It's 21 ft. I wish it could be longer but it would be unmanageable.

I don't know much about this area, so after cursory attempt at research, I've got a couple questions since you seem to know it:

  • The [top-rated electric blower on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJ627E-Electric-Headlight/dp/B075NMXLSS/
) is 15A at 120V... that comes to (15A 120V =) 1.8kW. A household dryer circuit is (30A 240V =) 7.2kW, so it'd easily drive that snowblower. Why does the direct calculation of wattage come out so differently from a horsepower-to-wattage conversion (750W/hp)?

  • That same blower's specs advertise a snow displacement of 800 pounds/minute, which seems like a reasonable spec to compare, but I couldn't find mention of displacement on the top-rated (with a similar width) snow blower on either Amazon or Home Depot. Is that a bad spec to compare over HP?

Here are two examples of tools used to remove snow from the roof of semis. It's difficult to do, so companies made tools to make it easier.

You should get one of these, it's what I use on my E46. It has both a scraper end and a wide, sturdy, smooth foam brush end for sweeping snow off painted areas without scratching.

For the metro area you want a wider 'pusher' with more plow like action, for high altitudes with more deep snow, you want more of a narrow 'scooper' with a shorter handle.

Metal blade shovels, wheeled pushers, plastic shovels with a metal blade for ice, (anything with a gimmick) ALL suck

Below are typically what commercial snow removal guys use and they are worth the money. Keep them out of direct sun because the plastic will get brittle if you leave them out for a summer. otherwise these are a 'man's man' shovel, no frills, gimmicks, long lasting, and does the job right.

And this is why I never bought a shovel like this. Not only would they be heavy and hard to push when full, you're begging for a gut shot multiple times while cleaning your driveway.

u/MsftWindows95 · 1 pointr/canada

The giant sleigh style with the big fuckoff scoop.

For when you absolutely positively want to get the hell back inside asap.

Catch: its shit on uneven surfaces.

> Many idiots also didn't clear their roof.

Every year this comes up and every year there are people defending not removing snow from the roof, or even the windows, for reasons of just not wanting to or willfully ignoring the risks associated with it.

For the windows I've seen several people get indignant because they just don't want to put in the effort. Screw you because lazy.

For the roofs I've seen people say that they just can't reach so they refuse to try. People will then point out that long handle, telescoping snow brushes exist as do arched ones designed for the roof as well as snow brooms. Then the non roof clearing people just resort to insults and say that they're still not going to do it because fuck you.
