> But there's just no justifying the blatant exploitation of kids through psychological carrot and stick in my mind
I know people have only been reading about behavioral science as it applies to reinforcement for a few weeks since this loot box thing became big, but if you think these games are the first industry to take advantage of intermittent reinforcement, they're really not.
Remember these?
What about these, ever buy your kids one of those?
Ever promise your kid dessert so he'd eat his broccoli, and not tell him it's fruit salad?
Everyone uses this. The whole entertainment industry is built on the back of intermittent reinforcement. We use it to train out dogs. We use it to educate our kids. We use it to reward good work, in big companies (sell x of y product and win a trip, to be revealed soon!).
Casinos are just the most obvious, most direct way of doing it.
looks like this mini helmet on top. The font is a little off but I think it's sitting on top of a soft foam beer koozie like this one. It seems like the thing under the helmet is bending in slightly at the top from the weight on top which leads me to believe its some material like the softer foam in a koozie. Given the font is not exactly like the one I linked, there's probably a good chance it's not an officially Nascar licensed product, unless Earnhardt changed the font on his #3 at some point in his career.
Oh boy a scavenger hunt
Thank you for the contest
I was 6 or 7 and just learning about football. Family had relocated to the NY area not long before, and I didn't have any hometown loyalty.
Bought my first pack of football cards, and the first one on top was John Smith, K. I liked the colors, and the name.
For the first 20-some years, admitting to being a NE fan got me laughed at for being a chump. For the last 20-some years, admitting to being a NE fan gets me eye-rolled for being a bandwagoner. Still have my signed 1978 Steve Grogan card on my desk at work though!
You should alert the basketball team http://www.amazon.com/BURKE-TREY-AUTO-MICHIGAN-BASKETBALL/dp/B00MO28IPG
It might be out of favor now but Michigan has definitely been known as Big Blue in the past. But don't worry, there was some disagreement between Auburn and Michigan over who was the true Big Blue when they played in the 1984 Sugar Bowl and Auburn doesn't use the name anymore either. Still, it's part of Michigan's history whether current fans like it or not.
Thank you very much!
The picture can be found on shop.nhl.com here for $129.99. It comes pre-framed and with the pieces of game-used net!
The autographed Fleury hat was previously on shop.nhl.com but appears to not be on sale anymore. It was $109.99. Here's an expired Amazon listing if you're curious. Looks like the only option now is to get the hat and get lucky enough to get him to sign it!
Finally, the Murray hat was signed in person at Market District in the South Hills, so it only cost the price of the hat and a couple hours in line.
edit: A single amazon search turned this up...
https://www.amazon.com/Giants-Buster-Official-Baseball-Witness/dp/B01CM6UFHM/ref=sr_1_1?s=collectibles&ie=UTF8&qid=1474990225&sr=1-1&keywords=buster+posey+signed+baseball
$150 for a signed WS baseball with the man's name on it.
if you want to really surprise your friend, they have mint cond. Buster Posey rookie year baseball cards on Amazon and those are almost certain to appreciate with time.
I will stop just short of promising you, you will not get a buster posey autograph at a game. fan fest would be really tough and a wait until next spring.
tbh, get him a signed ball or shirt on amazon. there are loads of them. you could probably get two pieces of signed memorabilia (cheap stuff like balls) fro $200. Might not be buster posey, though.
sorry if this is getting too long to make this point, but the guy knows how valuable his name is now.
-Now THAT's fancy.
-For a ball joint? Over 10K? Fancy!
-Not as fancy but still fun!
Thanks for the contest!
These are the ones I was able to identify:
Kelvin Gastelum: Right next to Max's face, you can make out the K and G.
Israel Adesanya: Right on his chest, it says "StylesA" or something along those lines and is underlined. Like this.
Poliana Botelho: Sideways next to Adesanya's face.
Montel Jackson: On top of Gastelum's head.
Brandon Davis: "Killer B" right between Adesanya and Gastelum's names.
Belal Muhammad: "BM" On the right of Adesanya's shoulder.
Boston Salmon: Top left, right by UFC 236.
Khalid Taha: Top left, left of Boston's signature.
Alan Jouban: Gold ink on Adesanya's right arm.
Also Max's signature is the one below the circled M, right by his nose.
I'll get back to you if I identify any others, and really cool poster, by the way!.
Wilson Reis: Below Max's chin, above Montel's signature.
Ovince Saint Preux: "O-SP", barely visible, sideways next to the APR 13 on the bottom of the poster.
Nikita Krylov: Circled "N Krylov" next to Gastelum's hand.
Eryk Anders: It's kind of hard to tell, but I'm pretty sure it's the unreadable one on top of Israel's head, next to Botelho's signature. Comparing it to this one it seems to match, with the upwards-shooting lines.
Ouch. This feels like a low assessment.
MSRP for the latest season is $59.99 Even if you want to round down for easy math, 30 complete seasons at an even $50 a season would be a value of $1,500.
Seems like the complete '85 season can be gotten pretty close to that, unfortunately.
Well, guess I'll be holding on to these a few more decades... :/
I'll probably never buy this for myself because I'm not a big baseball fan or a collector, but it sure makes me giggle like a little girl! 1989 Bill Ripken Obscenity Card
Also, this thing that converts your sink into a water fountain.
Each box he opened has 1 pack in it.. the pack contains 3 cards and a chance of a redemption card. Redemptions are ones that you have to contact Topps (the manufacturer) and they will mail it to you. They tend to be higher in value.
"Each Prime Performers Autograph is also available in the following parallels.
Bronze Ink (serial-numbered to 25 copies)
Silver Ink (serial-numbered to ten)
Gold Ink (one-of-one) "
That being said, just because the redemption he pulled will only have 10 made.. it doesn't make it necessarily valuable. As a Cardinals fan.. it would be cool to pull a Molina redemption, but its definitely not one of the sought after ones.
The guy in the video gets a group of people together to purchase the box. Example would be a box that cost $500 would be split 25 ways. Each team would cost $20. How they decide to divvy up the cards is by buying a team.. any card with that team goes to the person who bought that team.
Here is an example of a more sought after silver ink auto from last years set:
https://www.amazon.com/Tier-One-Performers-Autographs-Autographed/dp/B07FZC25GP
The box (that had 3 cards and chance of a redemption) costs around $150.
This is not a palindrome, but it certainly is a [baseball signed by Babe Ruth!] (http://www.amazon.com/Yankees-Signed-Baseball-Autograph-X91186/dp/B00ISUUUUY/ref=sr_1_12?s=collectibles&ie=UTF8&qid=1395604604&sr=1-12) PLAY BALL!!!
I just looked up what some of his other autographs look like and found thishttp://www.amazon.com/Sergei-Gonchar-Autographed-Stick-Senators/dp/B004BRYECI, doesn't really look anything like yours. I have a puck that he autographed and the way he wrote the last couple of letters and 55 looks similar to yours but other than that it doesn't. If it is Gonchar you should keep it, he's a great defenseman.
I got an official NHL replica cup years ago when the Canes won the cup. It's about 6" tall so the cup would hold maybe a shot at best, but they do exist. They are plastic, and I have no idea if you can buy them online. Great idea though!
EDIT: I found these! They are even smaller, but they are Rangers. https://www.amazon.com/Rangers-Stanley-Messier-Henrik-Lundqvist/dp/B01DAUJAKC/ref=sr_1_9?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1468593427&sr=1-9&keywords=stanley+cup+mini
I went through amazon, Here is the link, they still have 3 larges left.
They material quality is excellent, and it got to me super fast.
He actually did play for the Cubs, but that was last season, lol.
Back when this ball was signed he would've been on the Giants. But that is definitely an early version of his signature (it changed later in his career). Here's a matching example: https://www.amazon.com/Nathan-autographed-Baseball-Francisco-Giants/dp/B01MSBYL4Y
Must've been a score. It looks exactly like this, but with Jagr. I need to see what the series is, because I have a whole bunch of people from that set. Are they worth anything?
Edit: Found it. Now if you'll excuse me gentlemen, I'm going to go sell this sacred treasure and blow all my profit on 2/3s of a McDouble.
Over 10K? Fancy!
That better be some good lube...[NSFW...? Idk..it's a bottle of lube]
My not so fancy taste

I don't know the size of the object. If it were a helmet, it could be a full size helmet, not a mini helmet, but here are some other pics of Earnhardt mini helmets: https://www.amazon.com/Earnhardt-Signed-Goodwrench-Service-Simpson/dp/B01ACAY52G
