Good monitors are huge. Headphone sound is fine, but you want to mix using unbiased reference monitors so you know what things are going to sound like. Then you make sure it sounds good through headphones, in the car, etc. Even something like these will make a huge difference. If you've got some extra coin, go for something better. I found a pair of Mackie HR842 monitors on eBay for $250 (the old ones, not the new mk2 model). They're amazing.

You don't need more inputs than what you're actually using. If you're trying for a cheap home studio, your Apogee will work just fine. Just switch cables/inputs when you're recording something new.

But anyway. Here we go. What I would buy (of note, these are all Amazon affiliate links):

Mics:

  • Shure SM58 - $100 (for vocals)

  • Shure SM57 - $100 (for guitars/vocals)

  • Sennheiser e609 - $100 (for guitars, so you can double-mic)

  • 20' mic cable - $7.50 (2 for $15)

    Monitors:

  • M-Audio Studiophile AV 30 - $85

  • Auralex MoPAD monitor pads - $44

  • OnStage SMS6000 monitor stands - $100 (if your desk isn't large enough)

    Bass:

  • Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI - $200

I've been out of the "assorted percussion" game for a while, so you'll have to use your best judgement for that.

All that I've listed is $744 off of Amazon. You can DEFINITELY find cheap used mics and the Bass DI. Look for Gear Talk: Classifieds on Facebook, for example. This is all stuff that you can use today to get your home studio off the ground and functional. You also have $256 to spend on other stuff that you might need (percussion, surdo, etc.)

Logic and Pro Tools are built from the ground up to be recording suites. Ableton, while certainly being a live-sound-first option, works just fine. Nothing wrong with getting your feet wet using Ableton, and switching over to a bigger/better suite later. I recorded my first EP using GarageBand before making the transition myself.

Start with the basics. Start with what you NEED to record, not what you want. While what you already have is basic and not feature packed, it works and will get you in the game. (Related: stay away from plugins until you know how to really mix well with the basic compressor and EQ your recording suite comes with.)

    Hope that helps!

I think my bookshelf speakers are slightly larger than average, basic 2 way speakers with a 6.5 inch midrange. My subwoofers are pretty big and heavy.

For normal listening and movies it isn't bad. But if you play something with really heavy bass the vibrations become noticeable. I'm still conflicted about the setup myself but I am not unhappy.

I purchased some cork from home depot to try to reduce vibrations and it is okay but not great

I think the next step is possibly some type of Sorbothane. Apparently it is amazing for isolation BUT you need to do calculations based on the weight of your speakers to determine exactly how much you need to use.

http://www.amazon.com/Isolate-Sorbothane-Vibration-Isolation-Circular/dp/B0042U8P9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451966315&sr=8-1&keywords=isolate+it

Another alternative I am looking at is purchasing a set Isoaccoustics. They look like a gimmick but they got pretty good reviews, and they would also raise my bookshelfs to ear level.

Post back if you end up with some solution. I'd love to hear it as I am in the same predicament.

u/SoaDMTGguy · 2 pointsr/audiophile

You're welcome! It was a fun little challenge. One final piece of advice: Spend some time setting up the speakers and the sub correctly. Look up articles on speaker placement and where to position your sub. Proper placement is a night and day difference.

Also consider a pair of these if you get more budget in the future: https://www.amazon.com/IsoAcoustics-1004209-ISO-L8R155-Medium-Pair/dp/B008GOP79G

It's a bit much relative to the cost of your speakers, but isolating them from the desk or whatever makes a big difference. (I actually have a pair that I'll sell you if you're interested)

Good luck! I hope you enjoy what ever system you end up setting up :)

Merry Christmas OP!

I'm trying to get DJ equipment to start my dream of being a DJ. It's kinda already started because through lots of legwork and thrift-store shopping I managed to get some barely-passable home audio stuff, but it can't take the strain of DJing and can't be used for anything larger than ~40 people. I've had to turn down gigs because of it and judging by how frickin' hot it gets after I play for a few hours, it's going to be dead soon.

I made an Amazon list of what I need to buy to be at a semi-professional level. The cheapest thing that's independently useful would be the microphone, I believe, but literally anything is greatly appreciated, even if it's just a cord for something I don't have yet or something. The speakers are the most important thing by far, but they're extremely expensive.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QJOZS4/ - Dynamic microphone (the condenser mics pick up all the background noise and are way more prone to feedback)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006NMUJA/ - Pop cover that would fit that mic

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Q802USB - Mixer (without it the speakers and stuff won't work)

Not going for a sob story here, but rather explanation of why I don't have money to spend on this stuff - I've got no family and I've got Lyme's Disease which I wasn't allowed to treat back when I had a family (strictly against modern medicine) and now can't treat because of an error made on my government-provided health insurance that's so far been going on for 8 months and is yet to be fixed. Lyme destroys your joints, so standing and walking for a retail job (not yet out of college) is extremely painful for days afterwards. Once I get treatment I'm going to put my nose to the grindstone and get two jobs to finance it, but still, anything helps. If you go through my post history you'll see mention of a few Christmas gifts, specifically a set of headphones, and those are from friends. I really really really appreciate them because they put a lot of thought into them and read reviews and all, but I wound up not being able to use them, but instead returned them and spent the money on a professional set of headphones, which is why there are no headphones on that list of links.

Some suggestions:

u/sweet_story_bro · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For some reason he has a good sound card but crappy speakers. That makes me think he likes music/sound? If so, maybe consider new speakers. I would recommend the Micca PB42x speakers with an aux cable, then either buy or make some stands. If he would like a subwoofer too the Dayton Sub-800 with an aux to rca cable can pack some good punch without pissing off the neighbors too much. This setup would be more than enough for the average gamer/music enthusiast. It will be worlds above what he has now. However, if he does any music recording/mixing, maybe head to /r/audiophile or /r/budgetaudiophile for more specific recommendations.

Quick note: surround sound usually doesn't make sense at a desk, but you can certainly add more speakers to what I have listed here if you'd like.

Edit: oh yeah, you'll also want a speaker cable or some speaker wire (if he has wire strippers) to connect the two speakers to eachother.

Those are definitely some of the best value speakers I think you can get for a desktop system.

You definitely don't need to drill any holes for stands. You have a few options.

Auralex MoPads (If you buy the 4pk you'll get some extra inserts that will allow you to either angle them up to point them more towards your ear.)

Iso-Acoustics small desk stands. I'd recommend these even at their price. They work really well to decouple the speaker from your desk and the amount of adjustment you can do will work for any setup you use now and in the future. Read a few reviews and I think you'll justify the costs ...

Good luck.

There's tons of information online on how to properly set up your room for good acoustics, so I'll just tell you what to Google.

  • 38% rule
  • Equilateral triangle speaker placement
  • DIY acoustic panels
  • Overhead cloud acoustic panel
  • Bass traps
  • Damping vs diffusion
  • DIY acoustic diffuser
  • First reflection points acoustics

And yes, you absolutely want to set up your room properly. It makes an enormous difference in clarity and stereo separation that you will absolutely benefit from, even if you consider yourself a beginner.

And for the most part, setting it up is almost free. It just takes some preparation and basic equipment.

Here's some examples of how acoustic treatment can help:

If you want to make some panels, here's how various insulation types compare: http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm I recommend UltraTouch. It's denim, which is a lot less nasty than fiberglass, and is just about as effective, too.

If you haven't already, I'd get some speaker stands while your mirrors are being shipped. They're not expensive. These are mine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0154G1AQM/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are tons of DIY panel designs out there. This is what I built: https://m.imgur.com/gallery/TG2xT

How much desk real estate are you willing to commit to this sound system? Those speakers are designed for far-field listening and may not present a coherent sound field in the near-field. There are smaller amp solutions made for the desk environment also.

May I suggest that if you won't connect to a TV in the near future (years?) why not get the tool for the PC sound situation at hand and purchase an up-to-date tool for the future TV situation vs. compromising the PC solution now for a future "maybe."

So my advice is to get a 2.0 or 2.1 desktop solution tailor-made for this application and let tomorrow's you deal with tomorrow's TV solution.

To save desk space I'd go powered monitors on stands. My thinking on the powered vs. passive is the powered monitors have the amp/speaker electrical interaction accounted for during the engineering phase which prevents any complications from a lean/bright speaker being paired with a lean/bright amplifier or vice versa and saves you space on the desk. Looked at another way, what more easy to engineer situation is a desktop listening experience? Most of the variables of speaker separation and distance to listener are minimized to very finite distances, especially when compared to a living room setup. Why not let the engineers do their job and provide you the best listening experience they can provide for your setup and price point?

I've got the JBL LSR305s and isoACOUSTICS L8R-155 stands https://www.amazon.de/IsoAcoustics-ISO-L8R-Studio-Monitor-Stand/dp/B008GOP79G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473713476&sr=8-1&keywords=isoacoustics and like the combination very much. Had to go with an outboard controller as my sound card is noisy, went with the Scarlett 2i4 but could've used the 2i2 but that wasn't available locally.

The speakers and stands will be a little over your 500 Euro limit but well worth it in my book to spend the extra Euro to get the final solution on the first go round.

u/_shinything · 1 pointr/BurningMan

I'm a little late to replying, but my boyfriend and I have the 9'x8' tent, which is about 48 lbs excluding the tent stakes (we've replaced with military stakes). We are planning on flying as well, and successfully folded just the canvas portion of our tent into this duffel bag. We also were able to put our ground tarp in there, along with both of our very fluffy sleeping bags, our self inflating mattress pads, and self inflating pillows. I was honestly shocked. The entire bag came out to 46 lbs, and is perfectly 62".

For the tent poles, we bought this. We literally just put the bag that the tent poles came in, into this speaker bag, along with our military stakes. There is more room to spare in this speaker bag and we will be padding it all with our large jackets and other clothes. The dimensions for this speaker bag is 65" but we won't be overstuffing it and it will likely be pretty flat, so I'm hoping it will not be considered oversized...

u/legolad · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Are you worried about looks?

I just bought these bad boys and they are AMAZING in my small home theater. 5 of the 215s and 1 subwoofer cost me ~$1,280.

I run them on my Denon S920W AVR and they sound amazing!

BEHRINGER EUROLIVE B215XL

BEHRINGER EUROLIVE VP1800S

Here is a thread over on AVSForums where several folks have gone this route and been very happy.

Sure, they aren't visually appealing to some people, but the sound is truly stellar and in my dark home theater they completely disappear. Plus, you can always hide them in a baffle wall or build an easy frame with acoustic cloth to cover them up.

PSA: If you live in an apartment, don't do this. Get some awesome headphones instead. :-)

u/AudioMan612 · 1 pointr/battlestations

Nice setup man!

If you're trying to get better performance out of your loudspeakers, I highly recommend getting them on some stands. You want your tweeters to be at ear-level or close enough that you can tilt the speakers a bit to make a difference. This is because treble is very directional. The other reason that stands make a big difference is mechanical isolation. When your speaker cabinets make direct contact with your desk, their vibrations transfer out of the cabinets and into your furniture, which muddies up the sound.

If you want something cheap, AudioEngine DS2's would probably do the job. If you want something a bit better where you can tweak it a bit more to your liking, I highly recommend getting a pair of IsoAcoustics stands. I was able to A-B several loudspeakers on and off of the stands before I bought them, and they make a very noticeable difference. They come with 2 different heights of poles as well as two different size spacers for fine tuning or tilting. The correct size for your monitors according to the IsoAcoustics site would be a pair of ISO-L8R155's.

u/BanjoCalrissian · 2 pointsr/vinyl

They're these guys https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Support-JS-MS70-JamStands-Monitor/dp/B005JTV358

Pretty happy with them! They're relatively unobtrusive, stable, and the top is pretty large so even for relatively large bookshelf speakers like mine there's plenty of room. Plus the feet are adjustable which is an absolute necessity in an old apartment with uneven floors like mine.

u/tdelany · 1 pointr/MusicBattlestations

these look great, thank you for commenting. will definitely be considering these....

i kinda like these ones as well - largely because of the 'C' shape design that saves you a lot of desk space back. any thoughts/opinions on this model/ones like it? thanks again! :)

u/theobromus · 1 pointr/AskEngineers

Thanks, yeah, everything I've read seems to indicate that a bolt should never fail by stripping, but rather by breaking or stretching.

I'm not sure this is the exact model, but it's very much like this, in particular this bit (although really the other side of this view would be better). Basically the part I've shown fits into a plastic shaft collar. There's an inlay for a nut to fit on the other side and the bolt shown screws into that and tightens the shaft collar. Without it tightened, the stand has some kind of internal springs that lift it to full height.

Basically my requirements are a bolt that will fit in the diameter of the hole, and a nut that will fit snugly in the hex inlay. Should be simple enough, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something.

u/Varzboi · 2 pointsr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

Having your speakers on top of stacked books is generally not a good idea if you want to get value from them in terms of good audio reference.

IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R155 Home and Studio Speaker Stands - Medium - Pair https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B008GOP79G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_tDl1Bb6R0DR5X

Try these desk stands that will greatly reduce the vibration your speakers give to the desk and will sound “better” overall, which is more transparent to the monitor intended sound.

Those are an example, I got something similar for my home studio back home but you can try look for similar options :)

Hope it helps.

u/Yorin · 1 pointr/audiophile

So foam pads similair to what Diaggen posted would be better? Or just avoid foam in general?

What do i need to get then? Would stands like these: http://www.amazon.com/OnStage-SMS6000-Adjustable-Studio-Monitor/dp/B000CD3QYM, be a better option overal for better positioning?
I assumed that Desktop stands or foam would be the best for budget and space.

I would add some more plants as an easy way to add color. A fig tree beside your TV would look great.

You should look for speakers with high sensitivity. The bigger the speaker, the less power you need to get loud. These would work pretty well, and you can add a sub later, or get one from goodwill.

How many of these - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ - do you have to spend?

Most passive sound bars are not Stereo, but are made for an AV system, so they are Front/Center/Right -

Purely to illustrate what I mean.

https://www.amazon.com/Luxury-Two-Way-3-Channel-Passive-Soundbar/dp/B07FGDBMV6/

https://www.amazon.com/Dayton-AudioBS36-36-Inch-Speaker-Black/dp/B000YQBW5C/

Generally, the Center aspect would go unused.

If you go a sound bar, then you are going to have considerably smaller speakers.

Any chance we can get a photo of your current set up? Where are the speakers placed now? Would it help to put the speakers on Stands?

https://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Studio-Monitor-Speaker-Stand/dp/B076X9C7H1/

https://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Sonos-Speaker-Stand-Holder/dp/B00JEFNSKG/

These are both height adjustable.

There are also Desktop Adjustable Speakers Stands, I don't see how they could help you, but are worth being aware of -

https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Universal-Monitor-Riser-116250/dp/B01M728U0I/

While I suspect you can find a Soundbar to get the job down, I question whether you will be satisfied with it.

What is the Brand and Model of the speakers you have now?

There are several 2.1 Computer Speaker systems that use very small Front/Desk speakers. If necessary, they could be placed on their sides rather than standing upright-

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_21?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=2.1+computer+speakers&sprefix=2.1+computer+speakers%2Caps%2C536&crid=1MWLL42CVTEUT&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A2.1+computer+speakers

Given that you have very decent equipment, I'm concerned about making downgrade suggestions.

We can make random suggestions, but without a lot more information and perhaps a photo, it is going to be hard to make productive suggestions.

Don't let being lock into one way of thinking block you from seeing alternative solutions. I once agonized for months trying to figure out how to make my TV Stand work with a larger TV. Then one day I was walking through Walmart and saw the perfect TV Stand on sale. As long as I was locked into making the existing stand work, it was an impossible task. But by perusing an alternate solution I was up and running for $100.

That doesn't directly apply to you but it illustrates how being trapped into one way of thinking can prevent a solution. For nearly every problem ...ingenuity... is the real solution.

u/applevinegar · 2 pointsr/audiophile

That sucks, I'm sorry. The sweet spot in the near field is pretty narrow irregardless of reflections though.

Have you thought about using desktop stands such as these? They're pretty stable and would help a lot.

Additionally, acoustic panels are cheap and don't necessarily look ugly. Why don't you get some to cover early reflections? Look at these and these.

u/Skitch_n_Sketch · 2 pointsr/audiophile

Any size restrictions? Rythmik makes some great stuff, slightly over budget though. You've got a sealed / ported option with a minor price difference. The sealed digs deeper at the cost of output, but both claim below 20hz anyway.

As for speakers, check out the Mini Philharmonitor. The ported version of the speaker costs $750 (50 more than the sealed), but you're getting a bit more bass to start. Comes with a very well reviewed tweeter that he uses in his $1300 speakers.

For stands, its mostly dependent on your setup. Isoacoustics stands are great for on desk. For floor stands, Sanus makes a billion stands in different heights.

u/DieselWang · 3 pointsr/audiophile

The short answer is yes, the Philharmonitor is great for near-field listening (and should you decide so later, great for sitting further away as well).

The long answer is that the goal for any speaker should be a flat, neutral frequency response, giving no preference to bass, treble, or the midrange - it'll play the source accurately, as it was intended to be. The sound coming from speakers isn't just a direct line from the speaker drivers to your ear; it's actually a combination of reflections around your room and the objects within it. A speaker designer must account for the speaker's off-axis response. When sitting near-field at a desk (assuming you have some sort of stand to minimize reflections off the table surface - I use and recommend these btw: http://www.amazon.com/IsoAcoustics-ISO-L8R155-Medium-Pair/dp/B008GOP79G) you are sitting mostly on-axis, directly in front of it, minimizing the effect of reflections on the sound you hear, so its on-axis frequency response is especially relevant in this case.

u/Qwiksave · 1 pointr/AskBattlestations

Ok you got me thinking. If you can follow my build, at least size wise, look to these stands IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R130 - Small, Pair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CODRTNC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fgoszbTKEVBS2. While a bit pricey, they are for a pair, look like they'd fit on left and right of monitors and can provide the canting to get the sound positioned for your size when you sit. The size of the speakers will the raise the height a bit further, depending on your speaker choice. Besides, they look awesome, deaden unwanted vibration and can hide wires. I have these exact stands for my Audioengines.

u/HiFiveBro · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Edit: forgot to even check if they're available in uk :|

I use these for my desktop, but they take up quite a bit of space.

If you can afford it, these are also pretty great.

I have some Adam F5's speakers and they are excellent, really excellent active speakers and I use them on my desktop too. Have you thought about these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/IsoAcoustics-Studio-Monitor-Stand-ISO-L8R/dp/B008GOP79G , as they are supposed to make quite a difference.

u/Value_not_found · 1 pointr/audiophile

(ISO-L8R155 Medium)[https://www.amazon.com/IsoAcoustics-ISO-L8R155-Medium-Acoustic-Isolation/dp/B008GOP79G]

The Medium is the one you want. There about a 2 cm hang-off front to back and maybe 3-4mm hang-off side to side.

One of the most immediate improvements I noticed. Took care of any muddiness I was hearing.

With my chair height, my ears end up sitting slightly lower than tweeter level at the shortest stand height of the isoAcoustics. They provide a pair of wedge inserts (in two different heights) to allow you to tilt the speakers base platform.

I have mine set to where the rear portion of the stand is elevated by about 7 mm (smaller of the two wedge inserts) compared to the front portion. Lines the tweeters right with at ear level in my listening position. It's great.

Sure (below). Pretty good and cheap. Fill them with something to get the most out of them (I haven’t got round to that yet).

u/JohnBooty · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

That's a tough one. I think placement is the limiting factor there; I'm not sure an upgrade is going to accomplish too much.

I think you might have some luck with your current monitors if you can angle them upwards at bit. General rule with speaker positioning is that you want the tweeters at ear level. Failing that, next best thing is to angle the speakers so that the tweeters are at least aimed at ear level. This might help and it might not, but it's an easy thing to try.

> house mates don't want separate speaker stands.

I assume they don't want speaker stands off to the sides, right? What if the speakers were on a shelf over top the turntables? Either with a wall-mounted shelf, or something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Soundrise-Professional-Desktop-Speaker-Stands/dp/B00U78XJCG

...now, those are crazy expensive and a little ugly. I don't mean these particular models, just something sort of like that. Perhaps you could find something like that in white (or simply paint it white)?

u/Olnoeyes · 4 pointsr/audiophile

Looks like these. I have a pair as well and they're pretty nice.

This is some great insight here, I'd recommend getting those monitors off your desk and at ear level with something like this, or the foam equivalent:

u/clemllk · 1 pointr/audiophile

I have been wondering if the isoacoustics are anything special? or could i make something as good myself while being cheaper? is there anything special with the structure or is it just plain plastic?

u/N7Spectre77 · 1 pointr/audiophile

Lookin' great! I have a pair of black LS50 on my computer desk, too. I'm driving them with Outlaw monoblocks. Couldn't be more pleased.

If your foam pads wear down or start to fray, check out the IsoAcoustics stands. They work great for my LS50 or just about any desktop speaker setup.

u/rxhnck · 1 pointr/ableton

Ahh yeah same depth as what I’ve got, just looks different!

Any kind of padding or iso stands helps a ton. I got these from IsoAcoustics, they make different size models for different size monitors. I’ve got old Yamaha HS50M’s which are the same as HS5’s so I got the middle size. Super sturdy and they have two different leg lengths to adjust height, and insets to tilt them up or down depending on where your ear level is.

u/Taylor814 · 1 pointr/videography

Do you think that a lighting truss could work for a temporary solution? Our budget is small at the moment. We're basically trying to prove the model and show that these types of overhead videos can drive engagement on our social media platforms.

I personally own a set of speaker stands (similar to these). Do you think that a lighting Truss like this one could do the same job?

u/Submersed · 3 pointsr/battlestations

They're Jamstands (now called Ultimate Support). http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Support-JSMS70-Speaker-Stand/dp/B005JTV358.

I love them. They're perfect for these monitors and they are very sturdy on both hard floor and carpet. High quality materials, I would buy again.

u/eLZhi · 3 pointsr/battlestations

i saw a lot of praise for Iso Acoustics stands when i was looking for my stands, however i couldn't get past the negative reviews for build quality (plastic and rubber) and their cost, i'm also not a fan of how they look

I'm using these

they're well built and are rather heavy (cast iron) and have a fat rubber ring at the bottom, and they look good too, well at least in my opinion.

you could also buy stand plates that mount to the rubber feet (you're already using) for extra vibration absorption if you feel its necessary.

here's how they look mounted on my 8330A's

now having said all that i'm not going to recommend one over another since i never tried Iso Acoustics stands, have fun :p

u/NE_LightStalker · -1 pointsr/battlestations

Love the minimalist look to it.

Have you considered getting isolation pads for your speakers? They help isolate vibration from the desk and point the speakers at your ears. They made a huge impact on the quality of my speakers. Something like http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B009NWX2WO or http://amzn.com/B01BPL59ZI.

u/LocatingSilence · 1 pointr/audiophile

One thing about stands is that it has a lot to do with reducing the effect of resonance on the speaker. So some of it depends on the design of that speaker. If you place the speaker on different "stands," like a stack of books, or a cabinet, or countertop, you may hear some differences.

I've had some pricier speaker stands, and how I feel about them goes both ways, so what I'd recommend is experimenting.

For your table/desk, this set from IsoAcoustics are a popular choice for $89:
http://www.amazon.com/IsoAcoustics-ISO-L8R130-Small-Pair/dp/B00CODRTNC/?qid=1421425123&s=musical-instruments&ref=sr_1_2&ie=UTF8&sr=1-2

u/shia84 · 3 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Are these good? I think I've seen them mentioned before:
https://www.amazon.com/IsoAcoustics-1004209-ISO-L8R155-Medium-Pair/dp/B008GOP79G/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1482560963&sr=8-11&keywords=desktop+speaker+stand

Thanks!

BTW, do yoga blocks work well to bring it to ear level and then put some rubber on it for cheap budget?

u/akaatnene · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Slightly pricier, but I like the look of the IsoAcoustics stands. I picked up the ISO-L8R155 for my LSR305s after using books as a stand.

I wouldn't say it was a sound improvement over the books, but it did eliminate desk vibration.

u/phancdp · 1 pointr/audiophile

what about the Vanatoo Transparent One? I've done some more research and that seems to be an option you can't go wrong with in the $500 budget range

by the way, Arve recommended I hold off on the sub as well. he said that in my range, the sub should cost as much as my speakers, what do you think? $500 sub? good god. he also recommended some speaker stands but they're $100!

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008GOP79G

I compared this and the vanatoo transparent one dimensions and they don't seem to match up..what's the deal there?

u/BennyKB · 1 pointr/audiophile

I just received a pair of JBL LSR305s for my birthday. I am wondering what the best way is to raise them off on my carpet so I can use them while I use my TV.

I am lost as to what I should purchase. There are dozens of options for stands on Amazon, some with carpet spikes (I have carpet) and some without. What't the benefit of having these spikes?

If I eventually want to put them on my computer desk setup, should I go with something like these that I can use in my TV room and on my desk? But they are a little pricey.

u/Dodkrieg · 4 pointsr/audiophile

You could use bricks and a foam pad. If you want something nicer looking there's IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R155 for about $109:
http://www.amazon.com/IsoAcoustics-1004209-ISO-L8R155-Medium-Pair/dp/B008GOP79G

I wouldn't put any faith in their magic SQ improvements outside getting the speakers at ear level but for some reasonably cheap (compared to "audiophile" stands) and decent looking stands I don't really think one can do better for the $$:

u/oswaldo2017 · 1 pointr/audiophile

5.1 means nothing with respect to quality. It is only for surround sound. If you want that, it's great, however it is not required by Not means. Under 500 is absolutely doable. I would look at the SMSL Q5 Pro DAC/amp. It has a remote and will power most passive speakers fine. On the speaker note, JBL Studio 230s would work great. That total would be around 400 ish. You really don't need a subwoofer, but with the Q5 you can add one later.

u/ProfessorStrangeman · 1 pointr/edmproduction

Start off with one of these under your sub and if you do desk stands a pair of these under your monitors.

If you build your own stands remember that sound is a type of radiation so you can use a lot of one material or a little of several types to stop it from translating. IE if you use wood to make your stands you will need dense, heavy, thick pieces. BUT if you do a metal pole, mounted to a cement base, with a wooden pad for the monitor with foam/rubber/denim on it, it will be much more effective.

u/Fawawa · 1 pointr/Zeos

I got these make sure to check the dimensions of the speakers before you pick which one to get. These stands are rubber mounted to absorb alot of the vibration the speaker would send to a desk. They really do make a clear difference.

I ordered the peachtree after quite a few articles I read said that you can connect an external dac to your iPhone if the dac is externally powered. I will give you an update on how it sounds!

I measured my ear vs tweeter height and it looks like i need to bring my speakers up about 8 or 9 inches. Do you have a recommendation for a short desk speaker stand? Here is one that keeps popping up when I search. Any thoughts?

u/Polympics · 1 pointr/battlestations

No storage underneath, but these are much nicer imo.

u/BingoBoingoBongo · 2 pointsr/Beatmatch

You pretty much have three options. Put the speakers on the floor (probably don’t do this), get a tripod style speaker stand or go with a pole that mounts in your sub.
I personally prefer the poles that mount inside the subs because they take up less space overall.

Since it's directly behind the couch and not diagonally behind, you want bipole. I have the XLBP and I have them mounted on the rear wall almost directly behind my couch, and they work quite well (mine are too high, has to cover the speaker wire outlet plate).

As for stands, you are gonna want at least a 4ft tall one for either speaker; for the Fluance, these may work.

Just looking for some suggestions or insight, just looking for something to place my speakers at approximately ear level and so they're not in the same surface as my record player, something sturdy would be nice. I considered just having the speakers on the same surface as the Ikea KALLAX with Isolation pads but most people seem to suggest against that due to vibrations.

I also have isolation pads I can place on top of the stands

I'd suggest DIY, as I think a $100 investment in stands is too much for a pair of speakers that originally sold around that price.

Google "TNT stubby".

If you absolutely can't or won't DIY, you're probably looking for something like this (Warning: Haven't tested them, and would not put my own 26 lbs studio monitors on them, but they will probably hold the AV40's without collapsing).

Ich mach jetzt mal den üblichen "unter-1000-Euro-bekommst-bekommst-du-sowieso-nichts-gescheites"-Post. Und weißt du was? Es stimmt. War dort, habe es getan. Das Problem mit Hifi bzw. Audio allgemein ist, sobald du ein Mal etwas besseres gehört hast und du auch wirklich gehört und verstanden hast was anders und besser ist an den teureren Systemen, gibt es kein Zurück mehr. Generell gilt auch (bis auf den Design-Hifi von Teufel, B&W und Co.): "You get what you pay for."
