Here is a surge protector made by intermatic that you can wire into a 120/240vac furnace:

Here is one for your compressor unit:

Its also a good idea to install a whole house surge protector, here is one example:

Table Saw: $3k

Band Saw: $2.2k

Jointer: $2,550

Planer: $2k

Belt/disc sander: $500

Edge Sander: $1k

Drum Sander: $2k

Dust collection: I have this, if I need it, so it's free.

Drill Press: $700

Lathe: $2k that is one k, but chucks and various tools/gouges would run another grand.

Compressor: $700

CNC machine: $4k

Clamps: Bessey F-type. Bessey H-type pipe clamps, Spring clamps (wish I had more. project 1/2 way done waiting for glue so I cam use the clamps on the second half...), and Bessey K-body parallel. All would probably push $1l easy...

I think this is most of the big stuff. And I didn't come close to $30k... But, maybe I'll throw in a Festool tracksaw and take up the other $7k...

Pancake compressors, like this

PORTER-CABLE C2002 Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O5RO1Y/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_EDskDb46AT7KW

Tend to be louder because of the way the diaphragm works to pump air into the tank.

Compressors like this one

Campbell Hausfeld 30 gallon 2 Stage Air Compressor (XC302100) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RD8JKC7/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_jHskDbDCPF1VY

With a cylinder connected to a motor by belt are much quieter because the piston has a full stroke to pump air.

While both of these links show prices those are not definitive and I chose them because they illustrate my point. Belt driven cylinder compressors are quieter than diaphragm compressors. Prices vary.

Short of recommending one particular brand or unit look specifically at the CFM rating which will be rated something like this: CFM at 90 PSI: 10.2.

While I was poking around the net I ran into Amazons top-rated and this one seems like a real decent one. It is a bit over budget however.

Here is the link to the whole list of top-rated stationary's.

I have one of these

I found it at a goodwill for $10, figured it was worth a lot more, but I never ended up getting any hoses for it.. I wonder if it's even powerful enough to blow air really hard

Jaurl, are you my wife? Hah, just kidding, she asked me the same question. It's not just any compressor, it's an 80 gal 7.5hp hot rod Bel-Aire.

I just purchased a 3 gallon compressor from Sears made by Briggs and Stratton. It uses there "Quiet Power Technology". Shockingly quiet! https://www.amazon.com/Briggs-Stratton-Technology-Compressor-074027-00/dp/B01EWMF4DE

There are a couple models floating around but they didn't take off and had way more durability problems versus belted units. Mainly because it's prohibitively complicated to add an oil pump to a direct drive system and you have to run them at a much higher RPM; so you're going to be limited to oiless pumps which are criminally loud, less reliable, and less efficient. If you need something really compact they're an option though.

Edit: Here's one from DeWalt.
