I think that Rogue fitness has a lot of good quality stuff. You'll need an standard oly barbell, bench, squat rack/power cage, weights, collars for barbell and possibly a platform to deadlift on if you're wanting to do SL and not destroy your floor (not sure how much deadlifting is in SS since I don't do it). However, I will say this about Rogue: it can be quite expensive for someone on a budget. I would LOVE to have all Rogue equipment, but that's not a possibility for me in the near future and possibly not for you either depending on your finances (if you can afford it, def go with Rogue).

Otherwise, look into Craigslist in your area. Lots of people are trying to get rid of weights/racks all the time and usually at a pretty reasonable price. I think that what you should look for is someone who wants to sell between like $.50 and $.75 per lb of weight, obviously cheaper if you can get it! You should look for someone selling a set of probably around 300 lbs of oly plates (2 inch holes on the plates).

If you have the room, I'd suggest getting a power cage because they make lifting without a spotter (example: if your bf isn't home and you want to lift) a lot safer. You can fail your bench/squat and not have to worry about killing yourself, usually. Here is a decent cage for someone on a budget:

If you don't have room for something that tall, try going with this.

As for a bar on a budget, you can get one on Rogue for pretty cheap. I've heard good things about the men's economy bar.

or for something a bit cheaper.

Here is a good brand of collars.

Depending on your floor type, you may want to get some horse stall mats to put your rack on.

Good luck and happy lifting.

Edit: You will also need a bench...if you want to bench press at home. I personally do DB bench press because I feel like it activates the muscles better so I have kind of a cheapo bench. But here is one apparently rated for 500 lbs at an ok price. There are probably better ones out there but in the short term it could work alright.

Also, even if you don't do SL and do SS instead, SL is good at explaining the equipment and giving links to decent quality stuff.

A gym membership at a place that has power racks, or if you're working out at home, a power rack / squat rack with safeties, a flat bench, a barbell and some weight (don't spend more than ~1k in total if you're just starting out).

Everything else is luxuries.

You can get by without those things too, but having them makes things a lot easier.

If you have a half-decent gym nearby I would go with that first for a few months, just so you figure out if you are going to keep lifting weights long term.

If I was doing a basic garage gym setup and didnt want to buy second hand I would grab these things:

https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00GHNLK9E/

https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Fitness-Weight-Capacity-Handle/dp/B01M31YT3M

https://www.roguefitness.com/bravo-bar-bumper-set

They aren't the cheapest option (craigslist is the cheapest, and you can also get new things cheaper) but it strikes a good middle ground of getting things that have been tested and has an ok reputation (so should resell ok) while still being on the cheaper side.

I'd also get some exercise bands for like 20 USD from somewhere to do things like band pullaparts, facepulls and assisted pullups if you can't do full ones yet, and some microplates wherever they are cheap.

With those things, plus running/walking, you can do a full workout.

The next addition I'd get after that would be two dumbbell handles and some more small plates to do dumbbell exercises, but that is luxury. :)

Squat Rack (Can double for bench press)
Bench

Then hit up craigslist and find somone giving away the weights.

Weights are easy to find in my experience, a nice bench (that isnt rusted to hell and gross from sitting in the rain) and a rack are much harder.

Then save up and get a Heavy Bag

Id actually get the heavy bag first, and use that to rip away all the fat, then save up and get a good weight set as well.

u/tomkatt Ā· 3 pointsr/Fitness

I've been working out at home since 2013, and have collected most of what I need to workout. The only thing I'm missing is a rack, due to space concerns. Everything I have fits in my closet space. I have the following equipment:

  • Powerblock Travel Bench - legs fold and lock on pins, it slides under my bed or in the closet
  • Ab Roller - any cheap ab roller will do.
  • Folding yoga mat - I pull this out for deadlifting and when ab rolling to give my knees a break from wood flooring and carpet. Again, any mat will do
  • Standard barbell - mine holds... 250 lbs I think? Not a ton, but it works, and deadlift is probably the only lift I can even approach that kind of weight. More would be nice, but for that I'll need to start over with olympic gear.
  • Dumbbells
  • Around 200 lbs of standard plates in 25, 10, 5, and 2.5 lbs increments
  • Foam Roller (18 inch model will do, I have 18" and 36" black), lacrosse balls, and Body Back Buddy - for trigger point therapy.
  • Lifeline Power up Chin-up straps - I don't have any door frames that will support a pull up bar, and live in an apartment so don't want to damage the frames by mounting a permanent bar. These flip over a door and will support pullups, chin-ups, leg lifts, etc, and will work on any three-hinge door.

Granted, you can't get all of these things on your budget, but I'd recommend a pull up bar (or the straps if your doorframe won't support it), some dumbbells (you can buy a 40 lbs set for around $40 in most stores), an 18" foam roller and lacrosse ball, and get some extra plates over time with the excess to get you started (only buy the extra plates when you cap out the 40 lbs, and only if you're going to continue exercising).
u/Hackalope Ā· 1 pointr/Fitness

I swore off gym memberships over 5 years ago, figuring that I could spend a lot less money on weights and equipment in my apartment. I bought stuff piece by piece as I needed/wanted/could afford it. Here's what I have now, in total:

  • A weight bench similar to this one
  • A pull-up bar like this one
  • 2 x 30 lbs kettlebells
  • 1 x 55 lbs kettlebell
  • 2 x 25 lbs dumbbells
  • 2 x 35 lbs dumbbells
  • 2 x 40 lbs dumbbells
  • A bike
  • A bike trainer like this one

Now YMMV, I'm a guy that has never been overweight or out of shape. The one thing I know from trying to help friends that weren't a fortunate as my family is genetically is that I suck at helping overweight folks fix things. It's very hard for me to know what's safe.

That being said, I would recommend starting with a kettlebell. Something that feels substantial without feeling like you can't control it, or at least lift it off the floor with one hand. Start with just putting it between your feet, squatting down and grabbing it with both hands then standing up - rinse repeat for 10 reps. Then move on to doing that with one hand, alternating. Then maybe move up to swings or cleans. A kettlebell is pretty versatile, there are exercises for most parts of your body with just that one weight.

I'm able to put everything away in my closet for when people come over, but think about that before you buy anything like the bench I mentioned. The other thing you want to keep in mind is that having a bunch of weights makes moving that much harder.
u/PM_me_your_kitty_pix Ā· 2 pointsr/LAlist

I was talking about the dumbbells, but bowflex products are not that good overall IMO.

For benches, the important thing is to check the total weight capacity they have. A lot of benches youā€™ll see only have 300-600lb total capacity (your weight + dumbbells/etc) and that is very limiting especially if you decide you want to do powerlifting in the future.

I built myself a powerlifting homegym so I have a Repfitness bench which incredibly sturdy at 1000lb capacity rating and $219.

If that is too pricey, I would recommend something like Fitness Reality with an 800lb total capacity at $99 prime. The guy who owns that is a redditor who posts at /r/homegym I recommend going there to ask as well.

u/weskokigen Ā· 4 pointsr/Whatcouldgowrong

>I do a bench press from the floor

Sounds like you're not getting full range of motion, not to mention missing out on fly's and incline/decline presses. I'd recommend getting an adjustable bench like this. Of course, if you're happy with the situation then that's cool.

I picked this one up used a few weeks ago and it has worked out great so far. It's a little bulky, so it might not work if you don't have much room in your setup. But it is built like a tank and I think it will last for a long time. Good luck!

What?

https://www.amazon.com/Rep-Adjustable-Bench-AB-3100-V2/dp/B075Z7SML5

There are 14 reviews.

8 5-star reviews (57.14%)

2 4-star reviews (14.28%)

So 71.4% of the reviews are 4 or 5 star reviews (and 57% of all reviews are 5 star)

0 3-star

0 2-star

4 1-star

I can only speak for the one I have, which is great. But saying that the amazon reviews are brutal seems like a poor generalization considering 10/14 are really good reviews.

Inconsistent? yeah, maybe. Mixed? Yeah, okay. Are there some that are brutal? Yeah. But if you were going to make a generalization about the reviews as a whole, it would make more sense to say that they're good than to say that they're brutal. "Mostly good with a few bad reviews" would be the most accurate probably.

They've clearly shipped some that had issues. But the reviews i've seen on this sub, on Amazon, etc., and my own experience mostly suggest that it's a really solid bench. There is a slight change you may get one that has an issue it seems.

Remember, you are much more likely to hear from people who have an issue than those who do not. Search for that bench on this sub and you will find many positive comments.

u/TheSlowestBr0 Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

I've been wondering the same about pulldowns since I started looking at these units (whether Valor or otherwise). The consensus seems to be that you can pull a bench up to it and do just fine, but at a certain weight it will be hard to keep yourself braced to the bench, because you're lacking the footholds a dedicated lat pulldown machine would have. My potential solution (assuming this becomes a problem) is to pick up a utility bench or a cheap FID bench with footholds and cut the back down a little. I'm not thrilled with either of these options.

If somebody who has used one of these units could share their experience with lat pulldowns, I'd appreciate it.

u/theoldthatisstrong Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

You'll likely be able to find a good deal on a used bench as it seems more people are "stopping" weightlifting than starting at times. However, if you want to buy new and have access to Amazon, I've really like this bench I picked up there. And, if you're a Prime member they'll even 2-day ship it for free!

Only downside is the top of the pad is too narrow for proper heavy benching. I typically turn it around and use the wider seat end under my shoulders. That could be a deal breaker to some so I thought it important to mention.

u/pendrag Ā· 2 pointsr/BdsmDIY

I'd start by getting three reciprocating saws and the attachments for them for dildos and the fleshlight. then attaching them to.said frame via a mount.

http://www.stockroom.com/Fuck-Saw-P2931.aspx?ref=6212238&gclid=CMaZ9eWyoLICFQoFnQodBiwANg

you'll need basic welding skills, but I think the best place to start is a workout bench to support your torso then build the rest out from that base.

http://www.amazon.com/Apex-JD2-2-Flat-Bench/dp/B000J3MK3S/ref=cm_lmf_img_1

u/HWLesq Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

What's your max budget? This looks like a solid flat bench with great reviews and it's under $150 after the shipping. Seems to hit all the marks. Correct height, good width and length on the pad, even has a handle + wheels, 3x3 tubing for high weight rating.

https://smile.amazon.com/Atlas-Heavy-Capacity-handle-wheels/dp/B00S8U7WV4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1472745265&sr=8-7&keywords=flat+bench

u/shaneisyourfather Ā· 3 pointsr/homegym

I made a post but I'm sure it will get buried. I just randomly found that Fitness Reality made a flat bench that surprisingly looks decent? Of course, would have to get it in hand to confirm. No reviews yet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HGWNMN5/

u/[deleted] Ā· 2 pointsr/Fitness

doing this now since i'm tired of the packed gym around here with only 1 squat rack....

  • $345 - Power Cage from amazon with good reviews here
  • $248 - 300# olympic set with rubber layer from Sports Authority (in store with coupon)
  • $168 - Adjustible Bench from amazon here
  • $80 - Stall Mat x2 from Tractor Supply here
  • $22 - stability ball for shits here

Total was $863 in my spare bedroom. At $62 per month at my local gym this will be paid off in 14 months.

Although I may be looking for some kind of treadmill / elliptical for the girlfriend, I'm pretty happy with the price. If you put some effort into it you could find better deals on used equipment.
u/bookwench Ā· 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

I checked my purchase history, it's this one: Power Block Travel Bench (Silver) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XEAUDK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_P.7PBbEJDEW43

So far it's worked fine for myself and the husband. Granted we're only lifting a hundred extra pounds max on top of our bodyweight, it's been pretty solid for a couple years.

I have dropped a blanket over it & used it as spare seating for guests, too.

I really prefer working out at home to working out in a gym. It's very relaxing to not worry about someone else needing the equipment, germs, music selection, or appearance judgement. Lets you focus on form and breathing.

u/RawMuscleLab Ā· 1 pointr/Fitness

I like York, so I'd go with one of their benches, something like this if you want a normal bench for home.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/York-Heavy-Incline-Decline-Bench/dp/B000N3T0T6/ref=sr_1_6?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1375466597&sr=1-6&keywords=bench

You can squat on these, and they normally have a 300kg weight limit (including user weight).

That's pretty important.

u/pokewarriormonster Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

I have the Powerline PFID125X. It'll do all of the things you mentioned. I'll add the amazon link to it but you can also get it from eBay for less with free shipping and no taxes depending on your state. I ended up buying it on eBay and it's been great.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000R11G2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bY9azb9ZXYYME

u/JustARogue Ā· 1 pointr/Fitness

Any reason you don't like this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/York-Heavy-Incline-Decline-Bench/dp/B000N3T0T6

It's only slightly more expensive. The incline/decline functionally can be useful later and leg extension piece is just an added bonus. Plus York is a trusted name.

u/lifter-puller Ā· 3 pointsr/homegym

I bought this Adidas flat bench off Amazon when I first started my home gym 5 years ago and itā€™s proven to be an excellent bench for the price.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01GIT0NEO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BZWFAb5N9S5K2

Itā€™s nice and wide with a dense foam top which has been great for bench and @ a 600lb rating itā€™s plenty strong. I added some rubber feet to it to prevent sliding/scratching the platform ā€” added 1/4ā€ to overall height.

My only complaint is the cross-member length for the feet of the bench. @ over 18ā€ wide they can interfere with my foot placement if Iā€™m too high on the bench but I plan on chopping a few inches off each side to correct this.

u/awesometoenails Ā· 1 pointr/xxfitness

Does anyone have a collapsible bench they would recommend? I'm looking at this one

I would love for it to fold up flat so it doesn't take up space in my living room

u/evildustmite Ā· 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I have a bench like this and have it set so it is flat, start in a sitting position and lean back to about a 45 degree angle or however far you feel comfortable going, hold for a few seconds and sit back up straight. after a few weeks you should be able to lean all the way back and get back up to a sitting position.

u/navarone Ā· 1 pointr/Fitness

I just got this one off amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QJZAE4/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its pretty sturdy. I wanted incline for flies and such. I just wish it did 90 degrees.

u/Charontes Ā· 2 pointsr/Fitness

Hoist makes a good solid bench.

I use this and while I'm nowhere near the maximal weight (800lbs), it is nice to know it is there. And it is half the cost of the Ironmaster with only 200lb less max. (and let's be realistic - it isn't likely you will be 200-300lbs with a 600-700 bench press anytime soon, and you can always upgrade if that rarity happens 10+ years down the road)

u/Cardinal06 Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

It's been very sturdy and I'm happy with it. However, I also got this bench while it was on sale. I use it for bench press since it's lower to the ground and more wide. It's better for bench than the IronMaster in my opinion. I use the IM for everything else though and don't regret buying it, considering I needed an adjustable bench anyways. I'm 5'10".

u/thepeter Ā· 1 pointr/Fitness

For what its worth, I lift alone at home so I just ordered this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000TF66NG/ref=mp_s_a_1?pi=75x71&qid=1346505708&sr=8-1

I've ordered from them before so this should be pretty legit.

I've actually been wanting something like it but never had the motivation to look...thanks, thread. This should be much better than my plan to get a standalone bench and use my power rack.

u/starvinghope Ā· 3 pointsr/gainit

I use these safety stands at home and I can tell you they saved my weakass more than once. Maybe they might have something similar at your gym?

Please help me finding a good bench in EUROPE (I LIVE IN ITALY)

I don't really have a budget, I just want a good quality bench without spending too much (ā‚¬200-ā‚¬400 is ok)

I need it for my homegym, I will use it for bench/incline bench. And others exercises for bodybuilding.

I don't need the decline bench (I don't like it..)

On Amazon.IT I found:

- BODY SOLID GFID225 https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B002EEOO9S

- BODY SOLID Gfi21 https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0013ZCDME

They don't have adjustable seat pad but I can't find a better bench ..

Thanks..

I bought a power rack from amazon for about $400 (that's with shipping). I can't drop weights where I work out; the bottom safety bar position is about four inches short of full RoM for deadlifts so I built a short platform to stand on for deadlifts. The rack has a pullup bar.

Bought olympic barbell and 255 lbs of plates (not bumper plates) for about $200 on craigslist. There were some small rust spots on a few of the plates, but it's not like that changes their functionality. The annoying part was checking everyday for a couple of weeks until what I wanted showed up for a reasonable price. Maybe you live in a better city.

Bought a bench from amazon as well for $150. I decided to buy new because of similar safety concerns. If I recall, the listed weight limit is just for additional weights, and it assumes something like a 200 lbs person, so this bench is actually rated up to 500 lbs. It's harder to know what a bench is rated at just from looking at a poor cell phone pic from a craigslist add, and if it comes with a dinky 1" diameter barbell I'm going to be skeptical it can hold a lot of weight.

u/ninja_milksteak Ā· 1 pointr/Fitness

Best Fitness

This served me well while I worked out at home. Definitely a "you get what you pay for." It's not the best bench, but it does what it needs. No decline on this. I'm 6'1" and 180lb and was probably benching ~130lb at the time. Never had an issue with weight. Folds up nice too. A lot of comments on there mention the bench was too short but I never had an issue with it. Only word of advice would be to make sure you have olympic barbells or at least 7' barbell.

u/KorinFox Ā· 2 pointsr/Fitness

You're best off getting a power cage, adjustable bench, and olympic barbell and weight set. You can (and should) probably find all these things on craigslist where they will be cheaper, especially the weights.

u/Bran_Muffinator Ā· 3 pointsr/Fitness

This is the bench I use at home. Its adjustable with 5 positions and a weight capacity of 450lbs, all for less then 160$.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002QJZAE4?pc_redir=1405568006&robot_redir=1

Ive been using it for about 2 years, still works great.

EDIT:
In regards to a barbell rack, I use this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VLKOB8/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?qid=1405700398&sr=8-17&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Great for any barbell exercise.

u/dhanson865 Ā· 1 pointr/funny

a foldable weight bench? Like https://smile.amazon.com/Best-Fitness-BFOB10-Olympic-Bench/dp/B000XKHHMG and maybe one other piece of furnature that's in it's way for unfolding?

The bench is only 80 pounds but heck if I know what it'd sound like from below. I live in a house so nobody hears me workout.

u/j0dd Ā· 2 pointsr/Fitness

> what are they called?

you're probably referring to curls on an incline bench or an upright bench.

> how important is lowering the weight all the way down?

getting full ROM for an exercise like curls is a worthwhile endeavor.

u/enraginangel Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

I have a similar one to that XMark one... https://www.amazon.com/XMark-Incline-Decline-Weight-XM-7604/dp/B0080QZKHE

The difference is that it has an attachment to add a preacher curl station or leg extension. I think the bench is a bit long and the gap between the top and bottom pad is quite large. Other than that, it feels extremely solid.

u/orangeisstupid Ā· 5 pointsr/Fitness

In this order (more or less)

  1. Squat rack (or go for a full power rack)
  2. Adjustable bench
  3. Quality 7' barbell
  4. Weights, bumper or otherwise
  5. Caps
  6. More weights as needed
  7. Adjustable Dumbbells

Get some horse stall mat as well to put down. Thick stuff (3/4" or thicker) - like this
u/Brendan123746 Ā· 2 pointsr/homegym

^ That described my fears with it pretty well.

On amazon you can find a standlone lat pulldown / row machine plate loaded for around 250.

The T3 looks around 430.

You can find 300 lbs of weights with a beater bar at Dicks for 200.

A cheap curl bar you can get for 30 bucks on amazon.

Landmine attachement for the rack $30

Incline / decline bench
The bench you were getting for 410:
https://www.amazon.com/BodySolid-GFID71-Heavy-Duty-Bench/dp/B000EB7O2M/ref=sr_1_14?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1504630563&sr=1-14&keywords=Body-Solid+bench

However you can find a decent one for 310
https://www.amazon.com/XMark-Incline-Decline-Weight-XM-7604/dp/B0080QZKHE/ref=sr_1_13?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1504630426&sr=1-13&keywords=incline+decline+bench

This puts you at 1250 / 1350 depending on your bench

you are missing 100lbs of weights and lets assume the cheaper bench, so add 100 for the weights at $100,
1350

Add in a better bar:
Rogue B&R for 300 (less aggressive knurl than the ohio power, but still has a center knurl) Do some research on a bunch of bars if you do go this route.

1650

From here maybe go with some adjustable dumbbells.
These are singles, so a pair for $70
https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504631135&sr=8-1&keywords=olympic+adjustable+dumbbells

You will want decent clips, rogue is suggesting to use these with their dumbbells, so https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-oso-barbell-collars 50 there.

I think we are at 1770.
From here I would get more 10 and 5 lb plates, since you have the dumbbells you will want more than one pair and that is what the 300lb set gives you. so 3 more pairs of 10s and another pair 5s. That should be around 70lbs, worst case scenario $100.

That puts you at 1870. I probably missed some small stuff (handles and such for the lat pulldown / landmine) that would close the gap to 2k, but if not maybe add the dip bar to your rack (if you like dips)
https://www.titan.fitness/cages-and-racks/t-3-racks/t-3-rack-attachments/titan-t-3-y-dip-bar.html

that would put you at 1940. You are still missing a preacher curl station, but I personally don't feel that is necessary.

I would use the first one for the landmine handles aswell. I personally like that grip a lot more than the landmine specific ones.

Those two combined are $55
Now at 1,992 not including tax. However I don't think your quote included tax either so I think its comparable.

Realizing how far the 2k went, (assuming my math is somewhat decent) This is the route I would go and would suggest. Even if the pull down system in that cage works flawlessly I still think this is a better setup since your getting dumbbells, a better bar, a better rack, I think more weight (although very cheap)

Edit: The only thing I would consider changing is switching out the 300lb iron set for cheap bumpers at $1 / lb. maybe 3 pairs of 45s as bumpers. (270lbs). Then still get the 25s, 4 sets of 10s and 2 sets of 5s, and 2 sets of 2.5s as iron. Rogue Echo looks to be $1.3 / lb. This would bump your weight cost up to 500ish. We were at 300 on weights, so 200 over. If you drop the dip bar, closer to 100 over. This would make your deadlifts quieter and easier on the floor. The only drawback is the width of the plates. You aren't going to be able to put more than, 5ish on the bar. So probably 495lb.

Edit: For the dumbbell handles you need 2 sets of collars, not just 1 like I listed

Well I guess i should just have waited till next month to get this bench then, i was eyeballing this sexy beast from the beginning. Just wanted to start benching at home immediately, and the Marcy bench gave me that flexibility.

I'm pretty happy with my Powerline PPR200X.

I bought this bench. Although it does it's job, there is a bit of a gap right where your ass should be when in the flat position, which also happens to be the only position I use it in. My solution was to stick a couple of rolled up magazines in the gap, but I would maybe try out a few before buying if I had to do it again.

Squat rack

Bench

Spend the rest on a barbell and as much weight as you can afford. Definitely get cast iron, and go for used, you'll get more for your money.

What are your guys thoughts on something like this?

XMark Commercial FID Flat Incline Decline Weight Bench XM-7604 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0080QZKHE/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_tqedvb0X7NEYE
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0080QZKHE/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_tqedvb0X7NEYE

Anyone used it or something similar? Are these guys reputable for having quality stuff?

u/higx Ā· 5 pointsr/homegym

It seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm 6'2 with broad shoulders and have used many benches that were not built well. I wanted a very sturdy flat bench because i prop one side up on a plyo box for incline work as I dont care for the angles of most adjustable benches.

Well.... I wanted to love it, but I simply can't. I'll be selling it on craigslist.

  • Needlessly heavy duty. it's HEAVY duty and has proven to be quite the PITA to maneuverer in my 12x12 basement gym.
  • Leg drive is a problem. I'm not a power lifter so i'm not trying to have a crazy arch with my feet tucked back. It just so happens that where my feet need to be is exactly where the very wide rubber feet are. And even if one side of the bench had a narrower feet, It's just too damn tall for this guy. I think you need to be 6'4+ or have very long legs to get good leg drive on this setup. I have to use blocks.

When I saw this for 123 shipped I jumped on it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S8U7WV4
I can easily maneuver it, it's wide enough to support my retracted scapulars, and the way it's setup I can place my feet where I want them without the base getting in the way. I was going to get this Elite FTS one but the amazon one for 123 shipped seemed like a no brainer. I'll update /r/homegym if this new bench is any good or not.

> there's no way that can be right.

I'd work from the assumption that it's right.

This flat bench is rated to 600 pounds and has been tested to 1000, and costs less;

This adjustable bench is currently available at Costco for $89 and is rated to 500 pounds.

And like u/nelsonskjold sez, used market is always worth checking out.

Does anyone have this bench from fitness reality?

Power Rack, Bench, Olympic Bar and Plates.

If you do not have the room for a power rack you can start with these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5QE3L0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

But when you start lifting and squatting heavy you should really make room for the power rack. Sometimes you get stuck at the bottom of a squat and need to bail.

Then add the bench to slide in and out when needed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QJZAE4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

If you squat each workout you really don't have to worry about the leg extensions on the bench, just if you really want the extra work.

I have my eye on one rated at 600lbs (300lbs person + 300lbs weights) from Bowflex and it's only $150...I'll get link in a min.

You could make one for cheap.

Pullup/Chinup Bar

Adjustable Dumbells Get these instead

Optional: Adjustable Bench

Total ~$320 after shipping. Can probably find cheaper stuff from other brands or on craigslist.

There isn't a muscle in you body you can't work with this setup.

EDIT: Didn't notice how light the dumbells were. Found a heavier and cheaper set.

If you're looking for reviews, it used to be distributed as the Atlas bench and Bells of Steel has a yellow version

u/carterbrown Ā· 2 pointsr/homegym

It's a cool idea, but I can't imagine the price being in line with a standard bench.

Why not just some safety stands? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000TF66NG/

Under $100 and will be there for you when fluffy can't go get help

Adjustable bench: $50

300lb Olympic set: $125

One thing I found is that weight sets skyrocketed in price since I last bought any weights. My 300lb set cost a little over $100 back in 1993-94, and dumbbells were about $.50/lb.

u/GarlicsPepper Ā· 6 pointsr/Fitness

Got everything on amazon, no tax no shipping. I do have amazon prime though.

bench

squat rack

weight set

The barbell set has since gone up in price, it was 400 when I bought it.

u/stickerless_cubes Ā· 1 pointr/homegym

I'm restricted to anything that ships amazon prime because i'm in alaska and freight is ridiculous. I think i may end up going with this one, i think i'm actually fine spending the extra 100 to not have to spend more down the line if i do decide i want adjustable

u/Jaxper Ā· 1 pointr/weightroom

What are you looking to get? A flat bench or FID/adjustable?

Flat bench - I've heard good things about this one. I was going to get it until I decided on an FID.

FID - I have this one for my garage gym and have no complaints about it.

u/vatothe0 Ā· 7 pointsr/Stronglifts5x5

Power Rack, oly bar, weights, bench. All you need right there.

Basically the same power rack my gym has.

Decent bench

Quality bar and enough weight to keep you busy for a couple months.

You can probably find some of this on CL for dirt cheap though. Especially the bar and weights since they are a PIA to move.

u/greyghostvol1 Ā· 1 pointr/pics

portable workout bench that's somewhat decent and folds to a manageable size.

For cardio, just go out for a decent jog or quick paced walk!

one decent pair of adjustable dumbbells that goes up to 52 pounds each. Not really all that heavy, but enough for a moderate workout daily and can still add up to an intense one if you incorporate calisthenics.

No excuse now! :p

u/buddybar Ā· 2 pointsr/Fitness

Get one of these and you can add a LOT of muscle excersices to your routine.

Flat, incline, decline bench. Flies, Skull Crushers, etc.

If you are into the DVD routine kind of thing... A lot of people will mix the insanity DVD's with the weight lifting DVD's from P90X. From what I've read, that the insantiy is much more advanced on the Cardio side of the workouts and they like the HIIT aspect of Insanity. But want to keep the weight/strength so they add in the P90x weight workouts. Here is one example that I found real quick

Here is another

u/Gabe_Athouse07 Ā· 3 pointsr/homegym

I bought this set to start. The bar isn't the best, but it is just fine starting out. Rated to 300lbs, so keep that in mind if you're already beyond that in any area.

As far as bench, I bought this guy (currently unavailable on Amazon): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R11G2I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Holds up to 600lbs, sturdy and can incline/decline. No complaints from me.

u/El_Dudereno Ā· 4 pointsr/cincinnati

If you've got the room, the best thing I ever did was ditch my LA membership and purchase a power rack, bench and 300lb Olympic weight set.

I've added a couple accessory items, but that was enough to get going on a power lifting routine and hit the big compound lifts (squat, dead, bench, overhead) for ~$700 or about 2 years of gym memberships as I saw it.
