this is kind of odd... because in a past life I was an apparel designer and as of monday I'm a temp with a budget department. Instead of drawing all day I'm now looking at spreadsheets....but it would give me something pretty to look at, haha. I also am really happy to have any kind of job at the moment, though, so don't take this the wrong way. Really, truly grateful for the opportunity, and everyone there is super nice.

u/onenightstands · 1 pointr/discgolf

I haven't had all that much experience throwing glow discs, but my friend just bought one and we were going to test it soon.

However, I have used these on just about every disc I have and they work great. Some DX and D discs are too opaque for the LED to shine through the plastic, but Z, Champ, most Star, R-Pro, some ESP, Opto, Gold, and Tournament plastic all work well, some better than others. (IE. Champ, Opto, Z...)

You have to tape these little LEDs on and I recommend this tape to affix them with. It is a bit more stretchy and sticky than regular packing tape, it is also stronger making it not rip into pieces when you take the LEDs off.

I use three pieces overhanging about an inch on all sides of the LED right in the the middle. I have thrown a disc with one of these LEDs taped on with the tape I mentioned into water where it was fully submerged, and it still works to this day.

A gift card and a note is always a nice thing, and tends to be more useful than a tchotchke. If you don't want to do gift cards, then fun pens and/or notebooks, keychain flashlights, or tiny kits of office supplies like this one are cute, appreciated, and actually useful.

u/miichhhl · 1 pointr/MakeupAddictionCanada

Makeup organizers for SURE. There are some really great budget acrylic ones that I've found, and you can also get some file sorters like this one to help keep palettes organized!

Also, not really makeup related (although could be if you like to dress up your vanity!) but I thought these were super cute. A little on the pricey side but I tend to use gift cards on things that I wouldn't normally buy for myself either because of price or lack of necessity haha.

Well I know there's an option to not have the receipt print out (I don't have it), but the #000 size is the smallest I ever use, and it is for the reason you mentioned (labels don't go any smaller). What I recommend though if you do a lot of shipping, buy this tape dispenser and just use 3 strips of the clear 2in tape. It makes the bubble mailer extremely secure for very little cost. It also protects the label against weather and damage. I've sent out over ten thousand packages this way and feel its by far the best mix of safety/cost efficiency for sending coins and paper money.

If you are going to move, start your box search a MONTH in advance.

Liquor stores, grocery stores, Craigslist.

Use the phone if possible, then drive there immediately.

Mostly Craigslist was a hard one. Lots of false leads, crazy busy people who just just moved, people whose boxes are across town but you get there and most are gone.

If you need a lot of boxes, you're moving NOW and you have to buy them, go to Home Depot. They are the cheapest to buy boxes. Small boxes are 69 cents, and the largest sizes are still under $2. Wardrobe boxes are $9.97. Meanwhile u-haul is like $2-3 for a small box.

Wait. Looks like u-haul is cheap if you look online. Maybe take those prices with you if you go to u-haul, because that sure wasn't the price I saw when I went there.

If you're going to get a tape dispenser, the scotch brand moving and packing dispenser is the best. I tried many different kinds, and though it is simple, you can reel out the tape quickly and easily, never get hung up or cut and never lose the end and have to unstick it again. I just hold the dispenser in one hand, pull the tape out the length needed with the other and press against the seam.

I used to have this kind but the tape was always getting stuck. Mostly worked, but lots slower and it depends on the tape sticking. Also dangerous with kids.

u/ColinAllCarz · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Get me out of here! I like to go to an early showing of a movie by myself when I rarely have a day off without the kids...I know, kind of weird to some. Then I come home, bbq a burger, grab a tasty refreshing beverage, relax, and read a book with my feet up.

This lil' guy would look great on my desk if I won :). Thanks for the contest!

Since I just started collecting makeup on Black Friday (and am having so much fun thanks to this sub), my palettes have been crowding into the drawers of my little countertop organizer.
This week I finally ordered a clear file organizer to keep them in, and I'm so happy with it! Good quality for the money and looks lovely with all the cute palettes!

u/drumming102 · 1 pointr/FulfillmentByAmazon

Yep for the tape machine I listed (Which should be depreciated over 5 years according to the IRS so it will make money before the IRS says it's worthless) is a bit pricey but they have less expensive sub $100 models that are non-mechanical. I just like mine because it feels like im playing the slots every day. lol

u/ruindd · 2 pointsr/Frugal

I've wondered the same thing, it seems like a zero-sum game sometimes.

Sometimes I have to let go of the "being super frugal" and remember, this is so much more convenient, practical, and takes up less space...so it's okay to do. Here's an example. I try to always have a small roll of packing tape (2" wide clear) because it's so useful. I use it when mailing things (duh), sealing up opened bags that won't be used for a while, and a lot of other random things. The roll I get is on a little dispenser like this, so it can easily fit in a drawer but still has a handy dispenser. Our current roll is nearly run out, so I while I was at the store earlier I was going to pick up another roll. A larger roll (and larger dispenser) is a lot cheaper to buy and would be more functional, but would take up way too much space to store. So I sat there for about 3 mins thinking, "but this tape is cheaper with a better dispenser..." before I finally convinced myself, "this is all we need, we don't need a giant dispenser, even if it would save us $2 a roll".

The same goes with a lot of stuff we can get at costco. I don't need 2 x 2L bottles of extra virgin olive oil, I can pay 50 cents more per Liter at the grocery store and not have to worry about storing 2 large bottles.

I have a hard time with the tools thing though. I do all my own work on our car right now, but I know once we move to a smaller apartment that we probably won't have enough (any) garage space to really work on a car. For the time being, buying a $30 tool is still cheaper than going to a mechanic, so it makes sense. But eventually I don't know what I'll do with all of them i'm slowly accumulating.

EDIT: I also hate borrowing tools (or anything really), I don't know why, I just don't like it.

u/Lyd_Euh · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This is something that I have loved for a long time. Maybe you'll like it too. It's the next best thing in desk decoration couture.

u/Comicsastonish · 2 pointsr/comicbooks

If you're going to be a "serious" collector - and especially if you want to collect a lot of old comics (silver and golden age stuff) you need to remember one phrase, which is the most important aspect of maintaining a "serious" collection: Acid-Free.

If you want older comics to stay in the best condition possible you need to store them at archival standard - or in another ten years that $5,000 book you bought will have deteriorated down a whole grade level or more. There is no point in paying the high cost for older books if you are not going to preserve them at the grade you purchased them in - if you don't then you're not making a wise investment or safe-guarding the longevity of your purchases.

I know that people like to make this seem like a wasteful, overly paranoid pursuit - but those people do not understand archival processes. People who make careers out of archiving paper products such as historical documents, photographs, etc. have a concrete scientific understanding of the way paper decays and how ink and the other ingredients which comprise a book, picture, etc. releases acid - these acids will deteriorate a book at an alarming rate if you keep it in the wrong conditions.

You need acid-free boards, bags, tape and boxes. It seems like overkill, but if you're going to spend real money purchasing older comics then this small investment to properly preserve them is of the utmost importance. No serious collectors who purchase high-price classic issues would ever store them in conditions any lesser than these basic tools help you to achieve, although many serious collectors go above and beyond in their storage techniques as well. However, these few things will give you the basic archival quality storage that you'd need.

Read THIS to find out how different backing boards hold up under actual PH testing. Buy Mylites for your bags and find Acid-Free storage boxes at a site such as Comic Supply. Amazon is the best place to purchase acid-free tape and with those few ingredients you can properly store your collection at archival standards (provided they are stored at the proper temperatures)

Pro-tip from someone who had to use a similarly shattered iphone for a few months before her contract was ready to be renewed: tell your friend to cover the phone in that clear packing tape (like this) to prevent getting shards of glass in your hands/cheeks. Worked perfectly!

Like some people, even wearing the rift with the triangle as far down as I can manage, there's a firm pressure on my cheek bones that eventually turn into pain. Having a counterweight helps balances out the rift and prevent it from doing this. Also, since the extra weight is dangling off the back of the headset, it does not really add any weight pressure to your head, it just kinda keeps the rift balanced correctly.

Bill of Materials:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0064D4I5U
(you may want to grab the weights elsewhere as the price had gone up, it was $5 when I bought it)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073HFK7M1

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0057563UO

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DH8IT

Making it is pretty simple. First I laid down the handkerchief flat on the table. Then I peeled the adhesive cover and stacked the four weight bars two by two on the sheet with the bottom side up so that when I fold in the handkerchief, it will stick on to the bottom of the weights. I kept the folds together with some double sided tape and finished up with a velcro tie to be able to latch on to the rift to (3 is probably overkill btw, it should be perfect with 2).

BTW, the weights come in a set of 4 for 60gx4= 240g total which is perfect. I was dumb and bought 4 as I thought it only comes with one stick. As a a result, I have enough materials to make another 2 counterweights. If anyone wants one, I can ship them out for the cost of shipping (~$7 for small flat rate box within US).

Quality shouldn't be affected but the cover is there to protect the (relatively fragile) lens on the webcam, it'll scratch more easily than the cover would and the cover will be easier to clean than the lens would. I would say if you have it, fix it, easily done and it will make your new Thinkpad look even better. ;)

If you have one of those epoxies that dries hard (like JB Weld) I'd go with that, some epoxies or quick-cure glues can fog the plastic, which would really mess with the video quality. If you don't want to run the risk of using the wrong glue, you could test a small amount on the cover first, or find some really thin double-sided tape to reattach it (something like this www.amazon.com/Scotch-Double-Dispenser-Inches-136/dp/B00004Z47L/). Just cut a piece to fit in the gap, and very carefully cut out the circular patterns with a fine, sharp blade. If you do go with glue/epoxy, just don't put too much on otherwise it'll ooze out the sides and make a real mess (or even worse, get on the lens.

I picked up this dog one at Office Depot. As well as this ninja Post-It dispenser.

Tax-Free Weekend was a good day.

Most tape guns have a "safety mechanism" that retracts the teeth unless you pushed down on the flap that smooths the tape to the box. It might make them safer to handle, but it definitely makes them more annoying to use. Here's one without.

http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Sealing-Tape-Dispenser-H180/dp/B0002FTH66

If tape noise bothers you, here's the low-noise version.

http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Noise-Tape-Dispenser-H150/dp/B0006HVLE6

I prefer the tape guns without handles, so I splurged and bought the H192. It was worth the $40. For some reason Amazon won't give me the link directly to it, but it's on the same page as the H150.

u/RazorLeafAttack · 1 pointr/Gameboy

Yeah I’d pick up some of this permanent double sided Scotch tape and trim it with a straight edge and any hobby knife. X-acto is my preference.

u/pmcats · 1 pointr/randomactsofamazon

Screwdriver or double-sided tape I find randomly useful. Also, erasable pens.

u/ethanbrecke · 1 pointr/ProgrammerHumor

And tape holders like This. Always filled with sand.

u/RebootRevival · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Why not just use a double sided tape like this one. Or look into bookbinding specifically regarding gluing the spine. There is PVA glue designed for stuff similar to this.

u/alaricus · 12 pointsr/DesignPorn

This is the normal design in North America. A little less interesting than this two armed job.

u/Crowcifer · 1 pointr/askgaybros

I got it at Target. It's really not that useful since every single time you want to grab some tape, the darn thing wobbles. I suggest using his brother, the doge.

Poop tape. Everybody needs poop tape. My item!

u/caffeine_buzz · 3 pointsr/Flipping

I used to have this problem but then I bought a dispenser gun. No more sticking back on itself or any of the other aforementioned problems. Got this when it was on sale for $19 shipped. Took a little while to get used to - like taping it evenly down a straight line but that comes with practice. I still use duck brand tape. I paid $0.66 a roll for mine. http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Sealing-Tape-Dispenser-H180/dp/B0002FTH66
