Since it sounds like you're gonna open them, buying Japan imports from Amazon is your best solution in most cases. Robin and Lucina are impossible to find in US stores, but their Japan imports on Amazon are $17.56 and $18.00 respectively. Ike was restocked in GameStop, so you could call a few local GameStops and see if any have one left. Otherwise, Japan import on him is $15.11. Marth would be cheapest to get from Best Buy. If any local ones have him left, you can get him in-store to save the shipping cost, but he's still available online at MSRP if you don't have a Best Buy nearby. Shulk is an odd one... he was restocked at GameStop, Best Buy, and Toys R Us. You can use the in-store locator to find one in a nearby GameStop or Best Buy, you can call Toys R Us and ask if they have any left (I can't find his page on their site anymore), or in a worst case situation a Japan import of Shulk is $13.99 on Amazon (TRU's MSRP). Remember that if you have Amazon Prime, all the prices I listed are Prime eligible. Otherwise, $35 purchases get free shipping (so Robin + Lucina off of Amazon would net you free shipping). Links to all of what I mentioned are below. Roy is also available at GameStop online, but it hasn't been confirmed yet if he'll be compatible with Fire Emblem Fates or not so I left him out of the list below.
Marth (Best Buy)
Ike (Amazon - JP Import)
Robin (Amazon - JP Import)
Lucina (Amazon - JP Import)
Shulk (GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon - JP Import)
Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate the huge outpouring of support (but I expected nothing less from the smash community, f'in love you guys) I've decided on the mario amiibo, the super smash bros one (http://www.amazon.com/Mario-amiibo-Super-nintendo-wii-u/dp/B00N4ABMG4) I'm sure he'll love it, and I will let you know how he reacts!
Sadly, there is no way to know. It's definitely possible though.
As for online, you can always purchase a Gift Card in-store for online purchases in-case you don't have any Debit/Credit cards or PayPal.
Example: Go to a store that carries Amazon Gift Cards, purchase a $20~$25 Amazon Gift Card, make a Amazon account using your E-Mail, go to: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y074K3M/ add it to your cart, and on checkout simply use your Amazon Gift Card as the payment method by entering the card in under "Add a gift card or promotion code". It's about $16 free shipping from Japan, or you can get one fulfilled by Amazon for a few dollar shipping.
This is an amazing thing you're doing, OP! Thank you for your generosity!
I'd feel a little guilty asking for something really expensive, so would it be ok if I asked for a Toon Link Amiibo should I win? It's around $50 on Amazon for new! Please and thank you!
EDIT: Just noticed but you probably meant SSB Yoshi. Future Shop stores are going to be opening up again as Best Buy so maybe wait and see if they add Yoshi to the Best Buy site before buying from your friend.

If you don't mind putting a couple extra dollars on it, you can easily find it online as a standalone.
A seller on Amazon has them for 21$ with free shipping on orders over 25$ here: http://www.amazon.ca/Amiibo-%E3%81%A1%E3%81%B3%E3%83%AD%E3%83%9C-Chibi-Nintendo-Japan/dp/B012ZINKXS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1453164670&sr=8-4&keywords=chibi-robo

Sign up for a free month of prime shipping and you can have it in two days for $28.99 free shipping. (However, this may be EU or JP version, as I haven't taken the time to figure out which box amazon sends.)
Yeah, i completely agree, i guess that i didn't consider the kind of toys i liked when i was younger and looking at Nintendo's amiibos and these figurines i can also see a huge difference when it comes to production quality.
I mean, look at hulk's eyes, they didn't even get them right in the picture they use to sell him on amazon
Now look at the Villager, he looks like he was directly taken from Animal Crossing: new leaf and/or Sm4sh Bros.
To add to the discussion, amiibo from any region can be used as well. So any amiibo you find, even if it's a japanese wii U smash amiibo will work with any Switch, 3DS or Wii U. Some amiibo are easier to import than to find locally.
Also, some character have more than 1 amiibo for example, Donkey Kong has a Smash Series and a Mario Series , and they would both work with any Switch game that has DK amiibo compatibility.
Are you looking for anyone in particular? Not all can be easy to find but someone here or in r/amiibo can probably help you find what you are looking for
Former SDE intern here...
Not sure which team you work on but there is an Parent/Child ASIN mismatch for Toon Link as of today.
Parent Amiibo ASIN is: B00N49RAXO
Toon Link ASIN that is under that parent which is incorrect: B00PIEI0PU
Toon Link ASIN that is under that parent but does not get reported to the Product Advertisment API and is the correct one is: B00PG6Z9VI
When you check the Product Advertisement API for Offers under the parent ASIN, you get all expected Amiibo except for Toon Link, that one you receive B00PIEI0PU but instead the one that should be returning is
B00PG6Z9VI.
Not sure if you can file it with the retail team or whichever might be able to correct it.
Thanks :)
I checked many online retailer and nothing really listed for Amiibo figures yet. Amazon and Best Buy have place holder pages and that appears to be it. Also, in case anyone didn't notice, Princess Zelda and Pit will not be part of the first 12 figures released.
> The holiday shopping season begins today for Nintendo fans, as the first 12 amiibo interactive figures become available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of just $12.99 each. The first dozen characters available for pre-order at select retailers are Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, with more on the way in the future.
Update: Seems like they are up and available at Amazon. /sigh ... so much money is going into getting these.
This is where i got mine... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TS0UK0I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 Hopefully that helps!
Amazon has him for retail price if you don't want to wait until Pokemon day for the restocks. Charizard amiibo - Wii U Super Smash Bros. Series Edition https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00V86BJX2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_cE9MwbWDA7CFJ
I understand how emulators work. What are you trying to say with that argument? Are you saying, "yeah pc's wont preform as well but they have an excuse." because thats what I'm hearing. Just because it has an excuse for running worse, doesn't mean it is as good an experience. And yes, amiibos are not downloadable content, but they are extra content so they function the same way. Check out this and this and this
He's not super rare, so it's possible that you could just walk into Gamestop, Target, Toys R Us, Best Buy, or wherever else you might have nearby and find him. Alternately, he's available through various sellers on Amazon for slightly more than MSRP: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00O982JSU/ref=sr_1_1_twi_gam_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1449878877&sr=8-1&keywords=diddy+kong+amiibo
I think they are probably taking them all down and re-listing them all individually. The Super Mario Collection Amiibo are all listed individually.
Example - Toad
http://www.amazon.com/Toad-amiibo-Wii-U/dp/B00S7O6R9E/ref=sr_1_58?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1421605284&sr=1-58&keywords=amiibo

Well he's still up on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Toad-amiibo-Wii-U/dp/B00S7O6R9E
Not necessarily. It's hard to determine from just a single picture of a single item, but look at the symmetry and consistency of the item. It's more expensive than it seems for small plastic figures to have precision with really small amounts of error in placement and proportion. The plastic also seems at least decent quality; compare that to Nintendo's amiibos. The plastic, painting, the small shape chiseling, and consistency all look cheap, and this is almost $30. Granted it's more than just a figure, but you get the idea. Just because a figure is simple in design doesn't mean it's cheap. Nendoroids are really high quality figures with good consistency, detail, and plastic, but they're $30-50 bucks for a reason.
Bootlegs seem close at first glance, but their plastic quality, precision, and QA suffer because they're cheaper. It's really easy to tell a bootleg apart from the real thing, and they break quickly because of the plastic.

There's that on amazon, not sure if it is worth it to you though.
Because this guy.
Pricecharting just pulls numbers from sites and averages them If there's only one number to pull, you get weird data like that. It's more realistic to look at the individual listings in some cases.
It's up on Amazon.ca (Canada)!

Diddy wasn't selling that well to begin with (except for that one week where he was available in extremely small quantities). If you look at the selling history of rarer figures, the value has only gone up.

Amazon has an imported one for 28 with prime, also MK for 27
You could always grab this: http://www.amazon.com/amiibo-Ike-Super-Smash-Brothers/dp/B00PIEI0OQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1427565811&sr=1-1&keywords=ike+amiibo
It hovers around $30, but it also has prime shipping. I used a $5 giftcard and paid the same price as OP, but I'm getting mine in two days, not a month.

ALLOW US TO CHOOSE WHERE HOUSES CAN BE PLACED. Nothing bums me out more than having a badly placed home location and I know it is not just me. Yes I am fully aware there are ways in New Leaf to have the location moved, but it is truly an inconvenience.
Amiibos with villagers would back fire in a way due to the popularity of some and just like the Villager they would be an insane price.
I think it's worse. I have a Samus I grabbed without inspection and it has a slight tilt that's not noticeable unless you're looking for it, but not all Samus amiibo or other character amiibo have defects. Idk what's the %, but it's probably not the 100% that the Peach amiibo got.
Edit: just don't get an obviously fucked up Luigi or whatever, but that's not an option with Peach. I really hope they make another batch and it actually looks like her.
Edit 2: I don't even care about the difference in detail between the prototype and the final product, like the dress or even her fingers, but just look at the faces! That's not Peach http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00N4ABT1W/
Edit 3: clear headshots http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zYPIWfrmUWQ/VHTCMsJ1xlI/AAAAAAAAOq8/n1GOPXrknrU/s1600/amiiPD1114.jpg
Right, (though luckily I was able to get one back during release. My collection is still going strong.) But what I mean is, even those amiibo that are getting rarer for the most part don't cost too much
I know we all hate scalpers, but he's <$30 on Amazon and even cheaper on eBay
So while he may not be common in stores, getting him online isn't too much of a hassle. Even the rare-er ones have become more manageable to get.
They haven't updated her CPSIA, so she isn't getting restocked anytime soon.
But if you don't care about spending a couple extra bucks and where they're from, you can get a japanese import for $15.

1 loose Charizard has gone up.
Yes he is, and has been for three hours, additionally, his pre-orders were up for about as long as Sonic, Mega Man, and Sheik. So no. He will probably not be rare.
3rd party sellers. you can go on american Amazon and list an item that amazon doesnt have in stock and set the price to whatever you want to. the article has already been updated but really he should just delete it, it's a non-story and embarrassing that he jumped to conclusions like that.
example: Toon Link amiibo $48, 3x more than MSRP means nothing, has nothing to do with Nintendo branding or price gouging or whatever the stupid forbes blog author thinks
