Since it sounds like you're gonna open them, buying Japan imports from Amazon is your best solution in most cases. Robin and Lucina are impossible to find in US stores, but their Japan imports on Amazon are $17.56 and $18.00 respectively. Ike was restocked in GameStop, so you could call a few local GameStops and see if any have one left. Otherwise, Japan import on him is $15.11. Marth would be cheapest to get from Best Buy. If any local ones have him left, you can get him in-store to save the shipping cost, but he's still available online at MSRP if you don't have a Best Buy nearby. Shulk is an odd one... he was restocked at GameStop, Best Buy, and Toys R Us. You can use the in-store locator to find one in a nearby GameStop or Best Buy, you can call Toys R Us and ask if they have any left (I can't find his page on their site anymore), or in a worst case situation a Japan import of Shulk is $13.99 on Amazon (TRU's MSRP). The last viable option would be preordering Rosalina from Amazon Japan. It's bit more of a hassle, but I believe it's cheaper than the European options that are sold out anyway. A good indication is usually the little prime symbol. If they have that, it usually means amazon themselves is fulfilling the order.

So unfortunately, for your list Captain Falcon and Marth are being sold by third parties, and Shulk isn't available at all yet. You ~could~ get an Ike, and I think it'd cost you about $30.

Another good option for Marth might be amazon.jp? But I'm not familiar with that site, and you do need to somehow secure a shipping option to ship internationally from them, even though that stock of Marths is from amazon.

This list of Japanese sellers on Amazon is the best way I've seen recently to get a Meta Knight. I ordered one last month for a little under the $16 USD minimum they have right now, and it came with free shipping from Japan. Might be your best bet.

Also, a mod made this post a while back listing a lot of rare amiibo from Japanese locations for under $20 on Amazon.

I would suggest trying your luck on ebay (That's how I got mine after my original one got damaged), or on facebook marketplace and see if someone is selling their collection cheap near you. Be wary of googling amiibo, if you something that looks to be like a great deal [like finding a DK amiibo for 9.99 in stock where everywhere else it's over $25] it could be a scam site!

You can look on Amazon US as well. I've seen a few sellers with decent prices especially if you have prime. 2 nights ago there was a JP villager shipped from the U.S. for $25. Meta Knight is $30 shipped now from the U.S.

If you're able to get them in stores I'd say try there first. If you want to buy imports check on the ones that you want because you may get lucky. Villager is hovering around $60 though so I'd pass in getting him from there. If you can't find them try looking for the alternate names.

Read the Condition tab on all of them. Even if you choose USA, a lot of them specify EU or JP. They explicitly mention another region, yet they all still sell them in the USA tab. It happens across every amiibo on 3rd party Amazon.

Smash Toon Link doesn't seem to be available from Amazon JP itself and only 3rd party seller. I don't think third party sellers ship globally.

Don't just click another amiibo's name on the WFT page, though -- that doesn't actually change the URL. Try searching for the amiibo you want by name in the amazon search bar. I only see USA listings, and one japanese. The japanese version usually has it's own listing. Like the japanese megaman is called rock man on amazon.

I don't think they're being discontinued. I ordered a Sheik amiibo off of Amazon that's supposed to come out next month. They do have a Marth amiibo that's a Japanese import, though.

Not necessarily. It's hard to determine from just a single picture of a single item, but look at the symmetry and consistency of the item. It's more expensive than it seems for small plastic figures to have precision with really small amounts of error in placement and proportion. The plastic also seems at least decent quality; compare that to Nintendo's amiibos. The plastic, painting, the small shape chiseling, and consistency all look cheap, and this is almost $30. Granted it's more than just a figure, but you get the idea. Just because a figure is simple in design doesn't mean it's cheap. Nendoroids are really high quality figures with good consistency, detail, and plastic, but they're $30-50 bucks for a reason.

Bootlegs seem close at first glance, but their plastic quality, precision, and QA suffer because they're cheaper. It's really easy to tell a bootleg apart from the real thing, and they break quickly because of the plastic.

There's two Star Fox amiibo that are part of the Smash Bros. set: Fox McCloud, and Falco Lombardi.

Too bad the only Star Fox game on 3DS was the N64 remake (still amazing), but I think it came out well before Amiibo were a thing.

The thing is, anyone is able to do this. Most of the rare amiibo I've acquired I've gotten from just watching online retailers or by keeping an eye on stock trackers and heading over when they're in stock.

Plus, this is significant less relevant than 10-20 years ago, where I would be more inclined to agree with you. Now anyone with a bit of persistence can just sit at home and buy them. Since nearly every online retailer has limited orders to 2-3 of any given amiibo, this levels the playing field significantly.
