You can absolutely protect it. There are plastic protection lenses everywhere. Your job should supply it, but you can easily buy yourself some for cheap. I put one on either side of my lens just to be safe. here

[I just got these bad boys made by Lincoln for $25.](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01DI8HO8G/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_DrRGDb2M2DG14 via @amazon)

Although I did just see the chrome vanadium version for $11 more. Not sure I need the CV version, but they do look prettier. All depends on what you are using them for on a daily basis I guess.

Spring action, not sure if that is a dealbreaker or not but I like mine so far. But haven't really had them long enough to say they are better or worse long-term.

I find these pliers make really good utility pliers, anything automotive especially, not just welding.

I've got one of these coming in the mail. What I'm thinking of doing is putting the switch between the SSRs and the element outlets. I'll be able to cut power completely to the elements but I'm going to have to be careful to make sure only one element is plugged into the box at a time. It ain't the prettiest, but I think it'll do the trick.

Thx for the reply!

A couple car batteries and a welding stick. It's not particularly safe, but its used in 3rd world countries all the time.

More realistically, you can get arc welders for pretty cheap:

The guy at my local shop recommended 6011 1/8" to start out. He said it burns through almost anything and is fairly easy to work.

I planned on ordering this when I ran out of the 10 lb box I bought locally.

if you do accidentally poke a hole, you can repair the pokie-pokie by brazing. I did it recently after a rock hit my radiator - incredibly surprised how easy it was. All you need is some Bernzomatic AL3 Aluminum Brazing/Welding Rods and a small propane torch. youtube for instructions

That torch looks a lot like the tweco mini mig. So just as a guess, I think you need this diffuser: http://www.amazon.com/Diffusers-Lincoln-Tweco-MIG-Welding/dp/B004HAZOGY

What TIG rods would I want to use for autobody repair, specifically a '91 Honda CRX.

I intend to use TIG equipment with this DC Inverter

u/corey_uh_lahey · 2 pointsr/ave

Anti spatter. Keeps stuff from sticking to the inside of the nozzle.

And one of these.

Im still a beginner, but I saw a chucke2009 video where he compared the cutting rods to just running 6010 way hot and poking through with the rod and the cuts were extremely similar, and the cutting rods were like 2$ a piece or something. So really you could achieve the same effect with any stick welder ran hot.

Edit: the rods he used were not the ones in your link. I'll find them on Amazon real quick. The Hobart ones in the second link are the ones he used
