EDIT: By the way, mine is not totally stock. It is only made to look stock.
I have so many things I need to tell you about a "first off" kind of thing with the bike. FIRST OFF get new tires and tubes. Your electrical system sucks ass. The 6v wires are shit and any one of your lights will dim the other. Get a 6v "normal light" for your brake light, and make the rest 6v LEDs. Get the aftermarket headlight for the bike on Ebay it's like $45 but it will save you in the long run when you blow out bulbs while testing out your system. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-XL100-XL125-XL175-XL250-XL350-MT125-MT250-Headlight-6-V-Trim-Ring-Case-/361374724763?hash=item54239cb29b:g:eAsAAOSwDk5T9bTT&vxp=mtr
As soon as you buy that, put on a 12v AC voltage regulator on your Yellow headlight wire from your stator https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087PZV5O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Your little ceramic wire resistor sucks ass and will fall apart as soon as you touch it, so take that shit out of the bike.
After that, you will need a new flasher. for your turn signals.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CKJL14/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Now that flasher is a thermal flasher, so with LED bulbs in your turn signal spots it wont flash, so what I did is put LED bulbs on my rear turn signals, and kept the classic bulbs in the front.
When it comes to your engine, don't waste time.
Buy a gasket kit on eBay, and while you are in there change your clutch plates ($35). You WILL 100% need a special tool to do that which is like $8 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CRH18OG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also all the oil seals on the bike. Check the engine cylinder, piston, and engine head. Replace the valve seals on in the engine head because mine were bad at 7k miles, and spewing out smoke from my exhaust. Most likely you will need to swap the piston rings, and that will cost like $50 but if you want, they sell big bore kits, and STD kits that will replace your whole jug and piston with gaskets etc for not that much more.
Check all your gears, especially your starter gear for signs of missing teeth, or bad gears. If you need any pages out of my Clymer manual, let me know. That book is the best. You will need the wiring diagram! Once I figure out how to post that, I will hook a brotha up.
Now that your engine is in great shape, and is still spitting out smoke (yes mine still is. I think they all do that at this age)
You will want to do some painting. That is your own personal mess to tackle. There are plenty of painters who will give you advice.
Other tips of advice: BikeBandit, and CMSNL are your friends to finding part numbers, then buying the parts on eBay. I have completely disassembled this bike, and the entire engine, completely disassembled is sitting in two plastic tubs in my garage while I wait for a fucking expensive starter gear to come in.
If you have ANY questions on what to buy, or what to do with your restoration. I can give you the name for what parts I used, and where I got them, like my aftermarket carburetor and shit.
Also, when you feel like tackeling the fork seals, hit me up, they are a complete bitch to change, and will take a special set of instructions to tackle without taking them to a shop.
By the way, DON'T TAKE YOUR BIKE TO A SHOP.
I hope the best to you. Maybe one day we will meet up with out bikes at one of the meet up events they have, like the one in Alabama this year!
Could be a relay to make the 3rd brake light flash a few times and then hold steady when you apply the brakes. Some automakers are testing systems like this in the US. They're already pretty popular in Europe
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Vehicle-Flasher-Module-Universal-Motorcycles/dp/B00FADDOL4
Here's one in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ORq2XyfMQ
Good idea, with the 13.8v converter. If I go back and redo my setup, I'll keep that in mind.
My parts list:
1PCS Universal Motorcycle Flexible Tail Light Led Strip Waterproof Led Turn Brake Signal Light 48 SMD Red Indicator Lamp Amber x2 from AliExpress
2X Motorcycle Integrated 17 LED Tail Brake Stop Lamp Bar Turn Signal Light Strip from eBay
2-Pin Electronic LED Flasher Relay FIX Motorcycle Turn Signal Bulbs Hyper Flash from Amazon
7/8" 22mm Motorcycle Switches Motorbike Horn Button Turn Signal Electric Fog Lamp Light Start Handlebar Controller Switch (left side only) from AliExpress
SMAKN® DC/DC Converter 48V/36V (30V-60V) Step Down to 12V/15A 180W Power Supply Module from Amazon
Prices have fluctuated since I made my purchases - particularly for the 12v converter, which was $11 when I bought it.
And here are the results, though I would argue that it looks better in person.
The taillight assembly strips you're looking at look similar to what I have, if they're not identical. My impressions: I'm a bit underwhelmed by the brightness, coming from my Luna taillights (no longer available), and I'm not too sure how daylight-visible the indicators are. I'm also not impressed by the build quality. But they work, the taillight is daylight visible (just not as much as I'd like) and they're very nighttime visible, which is mainly what I was going for.
Also, I'm running them off 12v exactly - they'd be brighter on 13.8v.
I rolled my own strobe, pretty easy to do. Wire one of these into one of these, mount it on your license plate holder and tap into your brake light lines (assuming you have LED brake lights). Took about an hour and cost about $25.
Would buying a different relay help?
like this one? http://www.amazon.com/Tridon-EP34-Flasher/dp/B00064LQKS
I am not sure if this fits your 2012, but for my 2005 Avalanche, you can change out the whole flasher module under the dash and you won't have to splice in load resistors.
This is what is for my 2005, check and see if it fits your 2012 or if they make one to fit your 2012 --

I install a brake light modulator and a Whelen Lin3 (or two) as a third brake light on all my commuter bikes. It's so far been very effective. Bright as fuck so I keep it on a dimmer switch most of the time unless I need to tell someone to back off.
It might be factory on some cars/motorcycles.
I think we charge $120 for it, the tech gets maybe $5 to install it. It's probably a $2 circuit board and some scotch locks.
This is a nicer version than what we install, the one we install is a bare circuit board. https://www.amazon.com/Vktech-Strobe-Controller-Flasher-Module/dp/B00FILEA3E/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_263_lp_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=TEJVJWYE3KCE3KTV8TJ7
Literally just did this right before I saw your post. I have access to it now! Now I just need to find the part somewhere in Canada and we should be golden :)
As posted above by another redditor, would this be correct? http://www.amazon.com/Tridon-EP27-Flasher/dp/B000JZ33H8
If I use the amazon tool it says it doesn't fit, but I read others have had that same issue.

headlight flasher. very common for people with plow trucks and landscapers to buy for alert on the road.
I just recently saw a Scout owner that had installed this one. So I ordered one for my Scout as well. Haven’t installed it yet.

The $19.95 one from Amazon that is currently out of stock
I bought this relay from amazon.
Dewhel 1pc 2-Pin Electronic LED... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078693HNW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Here it is on Amazon.
If they're LED, you need one of these things most likely. 2-Pin Electronic LED Flasher Relay FIX Motorcycle Turn Signal Bulbs Hyper Flash https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073J82PNF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CRPSzbP6HHWGS
NOTE this may not be the correct one for your bike specifically. But that's the thing you need to make them blink.

[this guy] (https://www.amazon.com/3-Pin-CF-13-Electronic-Flasher-Signal/dp/B008C9YJ6C). You can get them in 2 prong round ones too.
Try this!

That's close, that's actually a relay which is just a little different. This should be the flasher that fits your car.
Mercedes Benz started it for emergency braking on european vehicles in 2006. It took a few years before it was even legal in the US, due to the flashing light restriction on non-emergency response vehicles.
Today, many vehicles have it with several different types of triggers. For Fiat/Chrysler, only the CHMSL light flashes, but it's whenever the brakes are applied. For others, including Mercedes, it's when ABS/Stability control is activated such as during panic braking.
It is also easily available as an aftermarket part (Amazon link) and are frequently used on motorcycles for increased visibility, similar to strobing headlights.
Yea. That's what I'm saying. There isn't enough resistance when the fogs and lows beams are on, so they freak out and flicker. Here is a flasher that will stop the hyper flashing for your turn signals.

https://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/turn-signal-flasher
I didn't narrow down by what your truck is but those searches should get you in the neighborhood. For mine it was just one of the relays near the fuse box, popped the one that was turn signal, bought the electronic one with same outputs and there you go. No mini super-heaters (those resistors get hot!) needing to mount somewhere they can dissipate that heat without burning the vehicle down.
I've browsed reviews of flasher relays on Amazon, and apparently other people have had the same problem when going LED on all 4 flashers.
Some have said that this one that has a ground cable and it fixed the problem:
