Find me the most amazing bed. It should be comfy and awe-inspiring.
We have the Boots and Barkley version of this dog bed. My little dog sleeps on it, even though we got it for the big one (the little dog has her own, smaller dog bed that the big one now uses. The weirdos). I know it's the best bed in the world, because she used to wake us up early whining to go outside. Now, she lays in bed until I'm up and dressed, suppressing her outstanding need to urinate in favor of laying there.
Perfect bedtime snack. What is it?
I like muffins. This is my favorite kind. They are delicious and wonderful and make the world a delightful place :)
I love classic flannel pajama sets, particularly the ones with cute pictures. What’s the best one you can find?
Owls and polka dots make a sleepy Amber a happy Amber. Now, just to find some muffins....
You are never too old for a nightlight. Find a fun one.
Ooooh, nice! I see cool night lights in Target all the time and always want to get one (ok, all of them), but I never do because we don't really need one. But I checked amazon for the best nightlight in the entire world and I found this one. Because dinosaurs. Do I really need to explain further? :)
Nobody sleeps until the baby sleeps. Can you find an item that will help baby sleep?
Have you tried reading baby a book? This one is particularly effective, I think ;)
Every night I sleep with an animal plushie I bought as a souvenir at the San Diego Zoo. Can you link a plushie version of the same animal
I'm guessing giraffe. My entire basis is that I have a giraffe stuffed animal that I recently got from the NC Zoo. My logic may not be sound, I just love giraffes :)
She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread. Thanks for the contest! This was a ton of fun. Sorry for being a bit longwinded... :)
Hello Beautiful Bombshells!
Dinner last night was super delicious. Pretty good for someone that had no idea what they were making 3 hours before :) I went diving into the meat hole and came up with a package of chicken thighs. I coated the defrosted thighs with some poultry seasoning, TJ's Onion Salt, salt & pepper. I air fried them for 12 minutes on 390°F, turned over and air fried for another 12 minutes on 390°F, turned over one more time and air fried for 5 minutes on 400°F. Absolutely perfect!
I used this recipe for the turnips and then I sautéed some broccolini in olive oil & garlic. For dessert, we had Brownies with Walnuts and a little whipped cream with walnuts on the side. I used this mix I got off Amazon. (Thanks for the recommendation u/Jenn_Lnz!) It's kind of expensive, but if you look at what you would pay out for a keto brownie? Worth it! My hubby really liked them. I kind of like the homemade ones better, but I've always preferred homemade over box mixes. They were super easy to make though and so fast too. I also had 1/4 cup marcona almonds, 1/3 cup Pumpkin Seeds to round out my OMAD.
Tonight, we will be going out to eat with one of our friends, and I leave for Indiana tomorrow morning, so hubby has two leftover chicken thighs all to himself :) I've got so much to do today and hope I can get it all done! If not, I'm not going to stress. I will have about 3 hours tomorrow morning before we leave for the airport and anything I forget, I can always buy there! I'm so excited to see my family!!!!
I hope ya'll have a wonderful weekend and KCKO! I'll try to check in when I can while I'm gone! Much love ladies and welcome to all the ladies who have joined our little home away from home :) XOXOXO
I know what you are dealing with, and I'm so sorry that you're going through it.
What I've found helpful is to try making different levels of effortlessness for various daily tasks. Basically, it's just having contingency plans that I can implement as needed. Making them pleasant is also important.
For example, here are my breakfast contingencies:
Another thing that really helped me a lot was learning to drink more water. For almost everybody, this sounds as simple as just grabbing a water bottle and making an effort to change habits. It probably doesn't even occur to them that this might need to be streamlined for people like us.
For me, here's what worked:
These are all things that require spending some money upfront, but are cheap to maintain.
Basically, the strategy is to accept that you're already doing what you can to help yourself, so making the tasks easier will let you do more and live better with your limited energy. Having contingencies that accept how bad some days can be will help to keep one very bad day from turning into a very bad week because you won't need to stretch yourself to get something done when you can least "afford" to do so.
Don't be embarrassed or ashamed by the lengths you need to go to in order to live decently. Others won't get it, but we both know that you're already used to people not really understanding.
If you want to talk more and exchange ideas about more ways to "save spoons," then just let me know. Good luck!
This is going to be fun. Across my multiple wishlists...
1.) Something that is grey.
Grey bedsheets.
2.) Something reminiscent of rain.
Pet water fountain.
3.) Something food related that is unusual.
Astronaut Ice Cream
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)
This Bruins banner is for my BFF Becky. She loves the Bruins more than anything. Hockey is her obsession. I put it on my list to remind myself to get it for her at some point. It would make her happy.
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
The Name of the Wind. Of everything I've read in the past 6 months, this one I devoured and have been desperate for the second book in (it's on my list to pick up this week, actually, if my paycheck EVER comes in).
Look, I hate... HATE... first person perspective. I see it as a sign of sloppy writing. However, this book had me SOLD on it. Kvothe is possibly one of my new favorite characters OF ALL TIME.
Avid reader doesn't even begin to describe me. I have my own library. I need books like air. And if I had to make a list of 100 books that were all I was allowed to have for the rest of my life, THIS WOULD BE ON IT.
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
This kindle book
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)
The most interesting cat toy in the world
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.
This choker. Enough said.
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
The Breakfast Club Why? Because. It's a good movie. Whether you were the jock, the brain, the spoiled brat, the loser, or the troublemaker-- there's a character you can identify with, and it shows that whatever and whoever you are, you can get along with someone who isn't in your clique.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
A Seed Vault
Everyone worries about fighting zombies.
Dumb. You see, when the zombies come, I'm holing up. A few weeks and if they are undead, they'll have rotted themselves to death. If they are fast moving, viral sumbitches, then they'll have likely ended up offing themselves through dehydration or whatever.
In any event, I'll wait them out. But then, I will need to rebuilt and eat.
(Besides, I have my trusty zombie-killing baseball bat, and a bow. Quiet. Efficient.)
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.
This book on Aztec and Inca expansionism. I'm back in school, and my focus is Mesoamerican Studies. Eventual degrees, here I come!
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.
Zucchini seeds.
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?
A KitchenAid Mixer Why? I like to cook and bake. My mother has one that I used for years when I was a kid and still living with her. I'm 30 now. I remember she got it when I was like, 5. IT STILL WORKS. Over a dozen moves, being abused for holidays making bread and cookies and cakes, being used by my Dad (I swear, he looks at appliances and they break) and it STILL FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY.
I cannot think of a kitchen appliance that would be more useful.
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.
This loft bed
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.
How about 7 somethings? A set of dice.
16.) Something that smells wonderful.
Italian Herb Bread Mix It smells good when you open the box. When it's mixed. While it's rising. While it bakes. After it bakes. As you've slathered butter on it and begin to nom.
17.) A (SFW) toy.
Hawkeye is so SFW I would bring him in to put on my desk.
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
This book, of course.
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.
Funko Tyrion Lannister because even a small man can cast a great shadow.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.
This.
No one will understand the magnificence of this plushie.
It is a rotund, cuddly, snuggly Cthulhu.
But Cthulhu does not cuddle. He does not care. When the stars are right, he will rise from the deeps and from his seat Ry'leh, devour his cultists-- and everyone else-- by the millions, and bring forth an end to all things.
But how can you deny his Elder God wrath? HOW?! Look at him, all squishy and warm and soft. Look at his little T-Rex arms, reaching out for your love and devotion. His eyes, his wiggly little face tentacles. YOU MUST SNUGGLE HIM.
fear cuts deeper than swords
What do we say to death? NOT TODAY.
Fellow celiac here! I have a horrible selection for grocery stores, so I buy a lot of things off of Amazon a case at a time. It is way cheaper than I can find anywhere this way. Stop buying the Udi's muffins. Honestly, they taste like crap and you can make ones that are soooo much better! I like to do a lot of baking mixes so I don't have to guess on what ratios of flours to use. Anyways, here are a few of my favorites:
If you get adventurous and want to try baking your items with a flour substitute, Cup4cup or Better Batter are both great. I've used them both as replacements of regular flour in things I've made and turned out very similar to using regular flour. I also make my own chicken fingers using the GF Bisquick (there is a GF chicken finger recipe on the box). We also eat a lot of rice and quinoa.

Amazon has some AMAZING food for people who cannot eat gluten.

The good thing about the muffins is you can make ANY kind by simply following the modifications with fresh ingredients on the back. I made those for meal prep for my family and they loved them!

Oh well I cant get links to work, maybe some day. Enjoy!
Yes! Good advice above!
If she was born and raised in Hawaii and went to school here, she will definitely be familiar with li hing mui! The seeds are these little sour dried plums, and like /u/thefightclubber said above, it is also very popular in powdered form. Along with pineapple, it basically goes well with all sorts of fruits from apples to oranges. Things like li hing mui gummy bears and other gummy snacks coated with the powder are also very popular here.

Another suggestion I have are these Hawaiian Sun Pancake mixes: http://www.amazon.com/Hawaiian-Sun-Pancake-Assortment-6-ounce/dp/B00GHYP9EA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414756606&sr=8-1&keywords=hawaiian+pancakes
They're relatively new and popular among tourists here to take home as souvenirs. So although, these won't invoke nostalgia for her since these pancake mixes weren't around 20 years ago, the "Hawaiian Sun" brand also produces a well known fruit drink that she might be familiar with.
It's very nice of you to be helping her with her homesickness! Good luck! :)
Heyo,
I posted a kit picture a while back and one of the items in my photo was a mini dutch oven. It can probably only hold about a pint or so and weighs 2.1 pounds. People always have opinions on what items I have in my kit, but unless I am on a super long trek with many miles and days, I ALWAYS bring this thing. It is small enough to nest inside my pot/cooking kit, so it doesn't take up additional pack space, just extra weight.
One aspect of bushcrafting I love is cooking over a fire. That can seem pretty limiting, because baking isn't easy to do over a fire. I've used regular sized dutch ovens many times before, but one day I was browsing cookware and saw this beaut. For only $10 I had to give it a go. It took a bit of time perfecting how to use it, but I can fairly consistently make correctly (cooked through but not burnt) baked items with it. I've done cake, brownies, beer bread, and so on. Basically anything that doesn't have active yeast (though I'm sure it could be done).
Why am I sharing? Because I cannot express the glee it gives me having hot baked goods on the trail. Warm bread does wonders for the soul, especially on a brisk night.
Here's a picture of the biscuit broken into two and the steam pouring out of it ;)
https://imgur.com/gallery/BQDDDjQ
EDIT: Forgot to mention how easy these biscuits are to make... I buy a small bag of this Bisquick batter at the store, its enough to make three biscuits that are about 3in in diameter and 1.5in tall. All you do is add water and mix it up! Easy to make and clean up!
It depends on what I'm doing. This sandwich bread recipe uses a combination of oat fiber, gluten, and flaxmeal. It's pretty good, and can be used as a pizza crust.
I've been experimenting with Lupin flour as well, subbing it in for some of the ingredients in the recipe above and a few other things. So far I'm enjoying it.
For breading, either powdered pork rinds mixed with grated parmesan is delicious, but I am excited to try whey protein isolate (not regular whey protein) as well. I'm planning to experiment with chicken and waffles this weekend.
But if you want biscuits, pancakes, etc. then Carbquick isn't bad. I don't think it's all that great, but Mr. moose_tassels loves it.
Almond flour in the right recipe is great, though, IMO, and provides some well-appreciated moisture.
Wow, you sure got your panties in a bunch over nothing!
>Have i ever bought a loaf of bread?
Sure I have. Sometimes I buy the cheap stuff just to make a sandwich, and I've purchased artisan breads before, too.
Here's the thing though, bub. I don't buy that bread and come to a subreddit about baking bread trying to show it off. Can you see how that makes a difference?
There are no bread in a box products for bread machines? The depth of your knowledge on this topic you profess so passionately about is showing. How about Here, Here, Or Here. That's right, it's actually very common for bread machines. See how this wouldn't count as something to show off to a bread subreddit? "I purchased a box, dumped it in, and literally pressed a button!" Is better suited for showing off the capabilities of a breadmaker than the skill involved in making bread.
I don't know/care what you heard in some interview somewhere... I've heard just about everything from both sides of a given issue somewhere. Can google an interview on either side in a half second to make my point, but I've no reason to. If the fear of failing to make something in the privacy of your own home is enough to turn you off from cooking/baking for life, then /r/psychology or /r/anxiety is probably a better place for you to make a first post. Baking bread is an art, one that's ancient and respected. Having a machine that can do it in one pass is great engineering, but isn't in the spirit of what this sub is about. The fact that it brings you a sense of accomplishment I find pretty amusing however. Does pouring milk on your cereal give you the same pride and satisfaction of a job well done?
Your comment was funny (if tiring) to read, so thanks for that. Go bake a real loaf of bread, and come back when you know what you're talking about.
Oh man, another foodie :P I love cooking and I have just started really getting into it. If I have to suggest something for you to try, give this a shot. I am part peruvian and I grew up eating masamora. It is essentially jello/pudding made from purple corn. Trust me, this is super nomalicious, especially if you cut up and throw in some fresh pineapple, apples, mangos, and grapes.
I seriosly hope you will give it a try, you will not be disappointed. Also if I do win the raffle, this bamboo cutting board would be the shit as I'm still acquiring kitchenware :P Hope you find something that peaks your interest and thanks for the contest!
Honestly, I buy a loaf of Udi's bread for $4something ($3something with the coupon from their website) at Publix/wherever once a week, and that's enough for me. I find enough variety and don't find I need substitutes.
I get buy on Kinnickinnick Bread and Bun Mix which I buy in bulk on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Kinnikinnick-Foods-Gluten-Free-Kinni-Kwik-35-5-Ounce/dp/B000LKTVXQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top). I split it with my brother ever few months. I can make bread, little buns, hot dog buns (buy mini tins from the store and bend them!), whatever I want. You can also mix the mix and water with baking soda (a bit of experimenting) and add some powdered sugar and make pancakes! Regular folks corn bread is often GF. I also get Namaste Pizza Crust (http://www.amazon.com/Namaste-Foods-Gluten-Pizza-16-Ounce/dp/B000LKZA1I) for special occasions. Pasta is super cheap and delish -Tinkyada is $2.99 a bag at Walmart...I prefer Publix for ethics reasons, which is $3.95, but still. Not bad!
I don't know. I'm a college student (grad student now --even worse!) and I make it work. You just have to be crafty.
But I totally understand. My boyfriend goes grocery shopping and buys $0.99 Pasta Sides and Kraft Meals and soups and yummy mcyumyum foods that are super cheap and look great, and I get to by quinoa and $4 bread...but it can be done on a budget! I just smile because my food is less processed and lower in sodium and preservatives!
Oh man that diabetic kitchen makes an amazing cinnamon donut. Doesn’t need glaze. These are our favorite brownies also. You should definitely try. They are delicious. Doctor’s CarbRite Diet – Sugar... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000G8399A?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
For eggs, use 1 TBSP flaxseed meal + 2.5 TBSP of water.
For soy, just use butter or palm shortening. No margarine. And cooking sprays have soy lecithin (usually protein free and safe but who knows) so you can buy a spray bottle and fill it yourself.
Flours can be done 1:1 for the most part once you find a blend you like. Betty Crocker has an all-purpose gluten free flour (I think potato and rice) that hasn't let me down yet.
If you're into pizzas, you can use Chebe bread mix. Follow the directions on the box, blind bake for 7 minutes, slide it off off the pan and keep baking for 8 more minutes directly on the rack. Then take it out, put it back on the pan, top and put back in til everything looks done. I jack the temp to 450 for that but you don't have to. I like my cheese well-done.
I was diagnosed with allergies in 1997: soy, wheat, corn, and peanut. Feel free to shoot me any questions!
I used this pancake mix.
It definitely tastes healthy but its actually my favorite breakfast atm! Instead of using water, eggs, and coconut oil, I used unsweetened cashew milk, egg beaters, and light butter which tasted a lot better and is lower in calories.
While there is, truly, shame in the pancake mix game...I still LOVE:
Carbon's Pancake and Waffle flour
IF you use a mix, use Carbon's, otherwise what you see in the thread is exactly what you are looking for. I would advocate adding a bit of vanilla to your home made pancake mix though.
And whatever you do...be sure to use peanut butter on your pancakes.

WELCOME TO 2014 CHICA
iT WON'T LET ME DO A LINK PROPERLY!!???
Amazon has a couple flavors, but basically I just make it like the instructions say and mix some abv into it before cooking it in the microwave. I grind the abv well so it's flavor is almost unnoticeable.
I saw these the other day and I'm still trying to make sense of it, unless they mean perfect size for 1 mug cake? do they sell the mug cakes in 4 packs? that would make sense since the frosting has 4 servings. Edit: Yeah, that explains it. DH mug cakes come in 4 packs and they don't include frosting. "Perfect Size for 1" is their product name (instead of mug cake) so I feel like the marketing department must've been really drunk/high the day of approval.
PS I've tried them and I find it offensive to call these things cake.
Whenever I have enough abv i'll make butter and use this low carb brownie mix. I try to make sure the butter is strong so I don't have to eat too many brownies otherwise i'll get a lot of stomach noises.
It's not really so much as combining as it is just avoiding breads and flour-based food. If you are ok with gluten (most people are) and still want to have bread options, Carbquik will let you make bread, biscuits, etc that don't taste like utter crap.
I also keep several packs of these on hand for taco night, or just for snacking.
If you do need to go GF, then you'll likely be making a lot of the substitute foods with several different types of nut flours, and then just adding a bunch of fiber to the recipe. If you love cooking, then it's a win/win.
This bread mix is AIP by itself. The cooking instructions call for eggs and cheese for the original bread recipe. You could omit the cheese and substitute gelatin eggs. It might be a good mix to start sourdough experimenting. I can usually find individual boxes at my local grocery store near the alternative flours section in the baking isle. I’m in the US.
