you are so generous!!!! oh my god!!!!

  1. i'm terrible at picking items for myself especially at item like this so it is up to you what you would want to send but i'll link this i've wanted one for a while because i have no where to get ready and put my things like my hair brush and makeup and things like that so yeah xD

  2. the person i love the most? ermm let's see i think probably my best friend who's actually on raoa /u/ufoundmi . i can pretty much go to her about anything and i've had a really really rough time in my personal life with my parents and she was there for me the whole time. she doesn't judge my mistakes and doesn't want me to be better she just is my friend because of who i am. which is something that i think is hard to find. which is also why she's my best friend and it's going to stay that way for a long time.

  3. i've sketched her before but i'll have to sketch her again so hold on i'll link that in a bit :D

  4. 444

  5. i will try my best and i hope you have a fantastic day!! because you're fantastic!!

Gifts I've given, or considered giving, over the years -- descending price order

u/NinjaMilez · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Was going to mention a change of stand but you already said you were probably going to change it. The one you've chosen, nice and minimal with a small footprint that complements your setup nicely.

> That was a mistake on my part. When I ordered this desk, it came with the option of having grommet holes drilled in, or being flat. But because it's a sit/stand desk, it cannot be against the wall, so cables run better behind it than through it. I'll eventually be replacing it with a flat white tabletop with no grommet holes. I considered the ones you suggested, but that would just lead to visible cables.

Good idea. I guess you probably wouldn't need the extra USB ports anyway since your case is easily accessible.

> Omron (Romer-G) switches, so no major custom keycaps yet. However, I prefer a white base with black keycaps (I don't know why, since everything else on the desk is black base with white top, my wife previously suggested the same idea as you). I'm considering THIS (same keyboard, gloss white base), or painting it myself. We'll see, not a priority.

If budget is a concern then painting would be the way to go, or even having a go a wrapping it in white carbon fibre textured vinyl if you wanted to mix things up visually a bit.

Though, if budget does allow you can always go custom-built mechanical and have it look however you like, though I did see that you prefer scissor switches so it probably wouldn't be worth the investment just to see how you like a "proper" mechanical. Customs get very expensive very quickly. If you're interested then take a look at the mechanicalkeyboards subreddit.

Small tip for your keyboard cable here. Get some rubber mouse feet that are about 15mm tall and put them under your monitor stand. This way there will be enough space under the monitor route the cable, hiding a bit of its length.

I'd strongly advise that you ditch the Graffiti pad unless you really find it helps with your typing posture. Really, your hands should be like this for typing. I also find they add a little too much visual noise. While gaming, people should really have their hand above the keyboard too. Something like this arm rest this would help with that. You can probably paint it.

If you tend to have drinks with you at your desk quite often then it might be a good idea to grab a coaster, silicone if possible.

Holy shit, I typed this line after writing the bit below after looking for an example coaster for you and found these. Dunno if you've already seen then but what a coincidence!

If you think adding that image in you setup a third time is a bit overboard than you can go for a plain white or black coaster. For a white desk I'd go for black if you want more contrast and white if you'd rather it not be as noticeable.

In your original post you mentioned that you understand that your chair is bad for your back. If I were you then start saving now since, if you've not already started looking, proper ergonomic chairs are so expensive. If Steelcase haven't released a new model by the time you come to buy a new chair then you can get the Gesture which is available in multiple colour options. It's like $1,000. Or the Herman Miller Embody. Again, multiple colours. About $1300.

Gesture if you're going for a more office-esque look and the Embody for a more 'creative' or relaxed feel.

Both of those chairs are flagships, but they are also the nicest looking chairs I've seen! You can get cheaper ones but they aren't as adjustable or ergonomic.

I'd also like to reiterate that your setup is really nice. Too many times do we see people on this sub who've bought a boat-load of expensive gear but is so aesthetically incongruent and not tried to manage a single cable. The worst offender being RGB mouse pads. WHY WOULD YOU NEED RGB ON THAT!? Not to mention that it introduces another cable going over most of the desk that you don't need.

Oh that is so exciting! Did you move from your city/state, or did you just buy a house in the area you already lived? I'm currently renting, but hope to buy a house once I've moved to another state. Home decorating is so much fun. It's like playing the Sims. I'm totally down for this, so excuse me if I link several things:

Wall Art:

If you're a fan of horror, there is this beautiful frankenstein and his wife wall art

Not sure what room you might hang this in but, beautiful regardless

I saw you said that you like cows, and thought this would be a fun piece to hang

Lighting:

This REALLY cool vintage metal pendant light

This cieling spider lamp fixture (not really a spider) would look amazing in your bedroom or livingroom

But of course, we can't forget some proper lighting for the kitchen, with this hanging glass ball edison pendant

A Few Misc, But Fun Selections:

the paper towel holder you didn't know you needed

a wine holder, because cows

to commemorate your new home

everyone needs coasters

Last but not least, some fun shower curtains:

fear and slothing in las vegas

it's so wrong it's right

bc who wouldn't want a cat riding a narwhal

shark it to me

Have fun filling your new home! May you make many new memories, good luck!

First of all, I'd do a little rearranging and put the couch opposite the fireplace, and the two chairs along the wall where the couch is now. Then put the tall lamp in the corner, and perhaps a tall plant if you can get one. That would make the couch the main focal point of the room when you walk in the door. Right now it's obtrusive because it's kind of right in the circulation.

Could you paint the coffee & side tables? One or two quarts of chalk paint or milk paint (you don't have to sand) will work wonders. I'd paint them either white, light gray, or even navy. That would really modernize those pieces.

With some accessories I think you could achieve a cool bohemian look. Switch out the lamp shades for both the lamps (if you can, it's hard to tell what the larger lamp is in the photo). Something like this or this. Take the current throw off the grey lounge chair, pick up a couple of colorful throws. Here's a good example of one but you can look at TJ Maxx, World Market, Pier 1 Imports, or antique/consignment shops in your area for something similar. Get at least 4 more throw pillows, also in different colors. Navy, orange, red, emerald, gold.. You want to mix and match colors, textures, and patterns to make it look curated but effortless. The above stores are great sources for those as well.

Put up some wall art, a macrame wall hanging with some color like this one would be perfect to tie everything together. Then some framed botanical prints as well. If you're on a super budget you can even print them at your local print shop. Audubon's Birds of America are un-copyrighted and you can download full resolution images for free. Then just pick a size to print them as, such as 11x17 or 18x24 that you can easily buy frames for. There are many other un-copyrighted botanicals/animal studies up for grabs. For the coffee table I'd get some cute coasters like these marble ones, and maybe a terrarium with some succulents or air plants.

Lightsaber Lamp or chopsticks are pretty cool. This apron, this thermos, these playing cards, this bottle opener, and this ice cube tray are also pretty sweet!

There's a variety of cat tote bags but I personally love this one or this one. I also love these coasters, this plush, this game, this cup, and these magnets.

This camping first aid kit looks super useful, as does this multitool, and you can never have too many torches. An inflatable pillow, or a funky backpack cover might be cool too.

I'm not great at looking for stuff for kids yet, so I can't really cover that aspect, but I hope you like some of these suggestions!

Hand lettering is always an option, yes. But there are great ways to cheat it too!

No etsy site, just doing this for a few weeks and not looking to make money from it. I have a Darby Smart page though. I'm normally a super busy grad student but my labs and everything are closed for break so being a neurotic academic type, I need some new projects to obsess over in the meantime. :)

Small ceramic tiles work really well for coasters and you can get them very cheaply at construction stores or online. You can also get bar quality coasters online very cheaply -- more flimsy but much less expensive.

As for lettering:

  1. Find a font you like. Pinterest or google around for free font packages -- there are many for non-commercial use -- and find you love to download.

  2. Type what you want on Word in the new font, adjust size, etc. and then either:
  3. Print it directly on the coaster in light grey ink or
  4. Print in black on paper. Color over the back of the paper with a standard number 2 pencil, making sure the back of the whole image is covered, and then place the image on the coaster, pencil-colored-side down. Trace the design on the front and the pencil on the back will act as cheapo transfer paper.
  5. Draw over the printing/tracing with a pretty pen or metallic pen for extra fanciness!
u/8bitesq · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My name is Sam but here I go by /u/8bitesq. I'm twenty-five though I turn twenty-six the day before your contest ends. I just recently graduated from law school and currently unemployed while I'm waiting for my bar results. (I'll probably be retaking it in February or next summer.) In my free time I run a nerdtastic blog called Nerdophiles and it's pretty much the best. I'm not a Hokie myself but I've got two cousins going to school there now. One was at summer training with the football team but he didn't make the final cut.

Okay, so, what do I want most on my list that's under $20... hmmmm. Probably the Lego Movie blu-ray. Or maybe Gotham Central - the comic book.

You should add these GOT shotglasses and coasters. I have the coasters. They are awesome. I think they were actually my first or second gift on here!

u/megaanmaarie · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

C'mon...gimme. I've wanted this book for a while now, haha.

As for the dream gift, these would be pretty awesome.

You two look absolutely amazing! :D But really, you two are just simply amazing anyways!

u/hazelowl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. This, of course. While I am no dummy, it always helps to study and what better thing to help with the studying of the proper use than knowing how to properly fill it up? Study study study, they say!
  2. I need a place to set my drink, and I can't lie. That wouldn't be nice.
  3. If I have one of these, then nobody has an excuse to not come over because they all have places to hang.
  4. For this one, we're magical, yes? So of course we need to float.... or at least appear to. Having things within reach is always helpful, and not having to remember to release the spell is even better. Can't leave something magicked up all day, can we? So let's use a little muggle magic, sleight of hand in a way.
  5. Sidestep! Why not have a little humor? Or disguise? It's still a trunk, after all.... Also good for blowing raspberries at people.
Bonus: Well, I need something to hold it on, right? Right? Howe can I be expected to glide about the halls without grabbing like crazy? I've tried before, it's annoying.

    Mischief managed!
u/Meatslinger · 0 pointsr/lifehacks

Whoops; I didn't realize you were a different person. I'm actually genuinely sorry about that.

/u/ReallyRick's wording seemed to be specifically calling out OP for being disingenuous about the price tag, when the product he linked falls within the bracket he specified. You are correct that the materials are different - I'm not sure it's enough of a distinction to invalidate the argument; both would make at-least-adequate, nice-looking coasters - but to expand on OP's position, I did an Amazon search for "tile coasters" myself, and even the cheapest ones I could find similar to what OP's solution would create (ceramic, not marble) were about $14 for a set of 4. Granted, I think that Amazon curates results according to location, so maybe somebody could find cheaper elsewhere. But even still, it's unlikely to beat the the price of $3 for four effective, nice-looking coasters.

These were neat, though.

u/reliseak · 6 pointsr/GiftIdeas

Damn, $100 is a lot for a coworker! I think the desk decor idea is great, because it will be something she’ll use and appreciate every day. What I would do is score on an aesthetic and then pick a selection of office supplies that fit. For example, if you wanted to do something very feminine like “rose gold + marble” you could pick a couple of things from the list below. Then, depending on whether she drinks and if this is ok for your work culture, I’d include a bottle of sparkling rosé as well, so it’s all very cute an on theme. You could do just plain gold and normal champagne, or color and match the label.

rose gold office supplies

photo frame

mouse pad

pens

tissue box

coasters

mug

insulated mug

travel mug

Edit: I forgot a succulent planter! What we’ll coordinated desk would be complete without one?!

  1. A difficult question, actually. Because see, I have one group of things I would like to do, and something I need to do, if I had that much money. I would like to upgrade my PC, buy myself some games and stuff, and then blow at least a thousand on (late) Christmas gifts for all my friends, and then probably just save the rest. But If I actually had that much, I really need to have some serious dental work done, so I would spend a large portion of it on that.

  2. Another difficult question, because judging on your wish list, we seem to have very different tastes. So something I would want would probably be of little interest to you. If it has to be something purely decorative, I would want this, though there are non-decorative things that I'd want much more. But for you... hmm... lemme look through your wishlist... this looks pretty amusing. I say you should grab that for yourself.

  3. Er... Gonna skip this one. I know nothing about fashion...

  4. I'm just gonna shill my friend's book again. It's a sci-fi action series and it's not bad IMO. He's currently working on the second book as we speak.

  5. Like I said above... I reeeeally don't know anything about fashion so... I'm gonna skip this one...

  6. What's with all the fashion questions? ;_; I invoke my third skip.

  7. I'm gonna vote for /u/nacho_cheezus, because as far as I can tell, I've given him the most upvotes out of anyone on this sub. So if I've given him that many upvotes, I say he did something right!
u/silentmute · 1 pointr/buildapc

I dunno, I think it'd be pretty fun to have SSD coasters, they'd look pretty cool, either that or just some PCB ones, I bet that exists.

Edit: it does

This throw lever is seriously amazing! I broke one but it was when I took a spill down into a creek and my rifle just kept going. But for $20 you get 2 of them and all I did was put blue Loctite on the threads of the wheel thing and it's absolutely rock solid! And it's nice and big, and will fit any other scope every made basically.

u/ricecooking · 1 pointr/DIY

The reason your glass lifts the coaster is because the water makes a seal between the coaster and the glass. If you made some sort of indents in the coaster surface, a seal couldn't form (at least not over as large an area), and it wouldn't lift with the glass.

ETA: These aren't cork, but I used to have some, and they're great because they don't stick - look at the bumps on the surface. If you could make your cork textured like that, it wouldn't stick.

So just google something like “fastfire 45 offset” and go to images. I spent a lot of time thinking through my “one gun” optic set up. After trying a few options this is what I settled on and I am glad I did. It’s lighter than a lot of options (I.e. strike Eagle) and it provides a broader range.

Also these are an excellent budget option for a throw lever.

A few years ago I saw a really cool computer set up that might appeal to you. The circuit board was hung on the wall like a picture and there was a frame with matting that covered the power supply and held lights that shown on the motherboard. It might have been in an early Make magazine. If so, it was no later than issue 25 or so.

You can also get circuit board coasters.

I'm also a fan of white boards. You can use shower liners as ultra cheap white boards. You can also get paint on chalk boards, but the dust makes me shy away from them.
