My kids are bit older now but I do miss buying for little ones - it's so rewarding 😊.

Sounds like you need something as a keepsake and that will appeal now. Children often love money boxes/ piggybanks and this kind may do as a memento too: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beatrix-Potter-Flopsy-Mopsy-Cotton/dp/B00IN4V9UA/ref=sr_1_60?keywords=child+keepsake+gift&qid=1555937728&s=gateway&sr=8-60.

It can be a nice way to start teaching them about saving too.

Another idea may appeal is a baby tooth keeper and organiser. Brilliant for when they start working with the tooth fairy and a nice keepsake for later on https://www.amazon.co.uk/pengxiaomei-Organizer-Wooden-Keepsake-Storage/dp/B07N8NPBP4/ref=sr_1_61?keywords=child+keepsake+gift&qid=1555937728&s=gateway&sr=8-61

Books are a great idea. Key is that they are bright, fun, and as a gift / memento go hardback. For little ones some good options are the Butterworth books eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/Springy-Percy-Park-Keeper-Story/dp/0008279861/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=butterworth+book&qid=1555938626&refinements=p_n_binding_browse-bin%3A492563011&rnid=492562011&s=books&sr=1-1. Or Michael Rosen's Little Rabbit Foo Foo https://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Rabbit-Foo-Michael-Rosen/dp/0744598001/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Rabbit+foo+foo+book&qid=1555938841&s=books&sr=1-1-catcorr. Or anything DR ZEUSS: still a HUGE fun favourite and helps with early literacy.

I love the left side of the room. The right side all looks like it came from grandmas guest room. Which it potentially all did... as did my entire first college bedroom, but it's be easy to liven that up and make it yours. You have a pretty cool minimalist, tech vibe going with that desk, lamp and chair. Keeping the other side of the room more simple will let more exciting things be the center of attention.

With the bedspread, a solid light gray is always safe- you could throw that cool blanket on top in the winter too. It lets you get some bright pillows to add color if you want. With the lamp, a cheap way to go would just to get a more simple lamp shade. Something Light gray or white with some texture would be a start.

After that, some blackout curtains and a long curtain rod would be awesome. I imagine it really opening up the feel of the room.

Now plants, it's crazy how much it really livens up a room. If light is low, give this article a read. You'll find something at Home Depot or Lowes that you can take care of. Put some smaller ones on one or two cheap shelves with what ever other cool nicknacks you start gathering at school and it'll feel like a castle man.

I see a lot of stuff about wall decor on here. Get a poster or two if you want, maybe a mirror. Old maps are cool too. Find an old map of whatever town you're in or from. Maybe a cool (quite) wall clock, but don't go crazy; college dorms can start feeling like dungeons when the walls get too crowded.

Black and white set

This is pretty!

In winter, I LOVE our jersey sheets.

That is an amazing looking bed, btw. :D

With regards to bedspreads I like the idea of a navy bedspread. The one I got was from some trivia contest I won at a bar years ago. I looked up a few on Amazon and Walmart. What do you think? I wasn't quite able to find "percale" navy or dark grey bedspreads/coverlets.

On the dresser/sofa situation. I can move it to another room (that weird "bedroom" which is too small for anything larger than a twin). However I still won't be able to fit anything as large as the GRÖNLID. I only have about 80" (in terms of width) to play with. I guess thinking on it more I'd also like to have some amount of clear/easily clearable space in between the sofa and the desk for VR gaming and when my friends bring their dogs (I have a couple dog beds stored that we toss in the middle). Here's Ikea Canada's catalog of sofas/couches. I can always keep an eye out on Kijjiji and Craigslist, but any colours/design/material I should keep an eye out for?

I'll look into rotating the bed, especially if I go with a sofa. I guess if I moved the dresser I'd need to get a small side table for my printer and modem too. Any thoughts?

It looks like a chenille bedspread, here is one on Amazon.

I love hammocks! I use a cheap, $20 single person hammock I ordered off Amazon with some tree slings. It came with 'S' hooks, so I just replaced those with some heavy duty carabiner. It's held up just as well as my dad's $80 hammock. For mosquitoes, I use a cheap mosquito net. It doesn't work as well as his expensive mosquito cover, but his complaint is it gets too hot under it.

u/mamajama71 · 2 pointsr/tipofmytongue

I found this on Amazon.com. They call it a chenille bedspread.
