Top Reddit comments about Bike Chainrings:

> a longer chain

Mine is 114 links, will it be enough or do I have to change it?

> a 42T 104BCD chainring

Would this be ok? I'm not necessarily going to buy this one, but just to make sure if I applied the search criteria right.

u/SillyShananagins · 2 pointsr/FixedGearBicycle

I don't plan on sinking a ton of money into this bike. I want to keep it super simple because I will just be riding this to and from work every day.

  • Wheels

  • Cranks

And that is all I have figured out for this build. This is my first fixed gear.
u/klapz · 1 pointr/FixedGearBicycle

I signed up to do a Merckx (no aero equipment) Time Trial without checking maximum wheel depth, and my geared bike's wheels are too deep. So I'm thinking why not get super weird and do it on my fixie commuter. I need a large chainring, 130bcd, 3/32 chain. Preferably available on Amazon. Is there a better option than this?

This guy might work if you are going for chain retention: https://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-1-Piece-Chainring-Double-Chainguard/dp/B07BM21Y9S. Might be pretty difficult to find a chain guard like you have on there currently as the 'universal' bottom bracket mount won't work with a one piece crankset.

you can't use regular chain rings from geared bikes because they were designed for the chain to derail easier rather than harder. look for 1/8 chainrings.
something like this with the 1/2 x 1/8" dimensions

Amazon.

Or probably an LBS if you want to support your local businesses.

u/eywin · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Either that or get those elastics that you slip on around your pants to make them less likely to get caught in the gears. There's also chain guards. Both choices in my opinion are much better than skinny jeans ::shudder::

u/name_is_too_long · 1 pointr/bikewrench

depends on if you have 4 bolt or 5 bolt and what bcd you have. I bought this in 38t because it's cheap. Still works and almost never drops the chain. Just get anything with good reviews.

u/bitcoinlitecoin · 1 pointr/bikewrench

Would you recommend this?

u/perky_spoon · 1 pointr/MTB

So these two are on my list https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002I7REMU/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_qaC5xbFFCQ5SE all of the single chainring bolts look the same so i just got the cheapest option and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I8V13LW/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_QdC5xbKWYD6E3 for the ring. Looks like an off brand but its 20 $ cheaper and red which matches some other stuff on my bike but also has 2 extra teeth would this be a mistake? The only alternative i could find on amazon is https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W4HE5L2/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_PgC5xb43YKKVG but its quite a bit more money..

u/AimForTheAce · 3 pointsr/bikewrench

It might be cheaper to reduce the small ring on front. Something like Sugino's 24t small ring.

u/Gushr · 2 pointsr/bikewrench

So if he went FSA or TA Specialties, he could forego upgrading to 130 BCD and stick with 110 and get 53? Like this? FSA Super Road Chainring 110x53t Black by FSA http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G90RJ86/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_Wdkrtb0GY3YHE

Obviously quality is not the same, but if there's a budget, that's an option.

u/mmlow · 3 pointsr/bikewrench

Something like this will work for you: https://www.amazon.com/FSA-Middle-130mm-Black-Chainring/dp/B000C15FX4

You definitely want a middle-specific chainring, there are ramps and pins that aid in shifting up to the ring that will be missing on a single-speed chainring, but manufacturer otherwise doesn't matter much, as long as size and BCD match.

u/Statuethisisme · 2 pointsr/bicycling

This is the 26 tooth chain ring I ordered. You can find the part numbers on the SRAM website if you want other sizes. Check the range of your FD to see which chain rings to order.

u/ph0rk · 1 pointr/bikewrench

You can likely use SRAMS direct mount stuff, but it depends on which crankset you have.

I have one of these and a wolf tooth direct mount ring installed on two different bikes.

There are also some steel eagle rings floating around - they'll weigh more but last longer.

u/samvegg · 1 pointr/bicycling

Here's a chainring. Just find a matching crankset and your set

u/immajudgeyourbike · 2 pointsr/FixedGearBicycle

2010 Langsters come with a 42t chainring. It was the first thing I upgraded.

u/quickskoper · 2 pointsr/bikewrench

So either of these should work?
1, 2, 3
