For those curious:

When she was two she started riding with me on a bike seat and using a balance bike that converts to pedals.

Around 3.5 years old she started to pedal with training wheels (never doing that again with my younger boys)

When she was 4 I bought her a used 20" coaster brake cannondale knowing one day she'd use it.

5 is when I was able to take the training wheels off that 20" and taking her to the easy stuff on the trails.

Last weekend we picked up this brand new 20" Specialized RipRock

Links:

Bike seats:

Tyke Toter (Seat clamp style)

Shotgun Kids MTB seat <<< This is the one I use now for my youngest 2 year old boy and highly recommend over the Tyke Toter

Bikes:

Vilano 12" convertible balance/pedal bike (Can't seem to find it available anymore but I like that concept.)

Specialized RipRock 20

Norco Roller 16 - This is the bike I just got my 3.5 year old son who is close to being able to pedal. For riding trails I didn't want a coaster brake (I removed it from that used 20" Canondale for my girl.)

Hope this helps any current or future parents out there.

This one costs more but I use it for shopping, it can be used like a hand trolley as well:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/b-tourist-Shopping-Trolley-Wheels-porte-vã/dp/B0081EAE0S/

The bag can be removed if you want to tie larger items to it.

I just bought a cheap bike trailer to attempt an almost car free lifestyle. Bike grocery shopping here I come.

Great sale for it on Amazon if anyone is interested https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005DWFVGI/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What about this kind of stroller. Looks like the weight goes up to 75lbs (or maybe 100lbs) and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen someone recommend this before on here.

So I'm trying to figure out how to bicycle with my baby. She is 10 months old and I tried sticking her in this trailer that we've got. She hated it. Cried most of the ride.

I know we're a couple months early for the age rating on the trailer, but she's otherwise a strong and capable baby. It seemed to me that the combo of her helmet and the angle of the seat in the trailer meant her head was pushed down at an odd angle - but I couldn't figure out how to fix that. The trailer gets great ratings on Amazon though, so I'm not sure what I'm missing?

Age? Neck support? Just practice and getting her used to it?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but cycling isn't as common in our area so I don't have many other people to consult with.

I do not believe the Haibike Hardline has facilities for mounting a rear rack. It's tough to tell from the pictures on their websites, so I don't know for sure.

To do a proper rack requires braze-ons.. hard points.. that the rack can bolt to on the bicycle. I don't see those in the pictures on their website.

They do make child seats that don't require a pre-existing rack... like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/CyclingDeal-Kids-Standard-Bicycle-Carrier/dp/B00MGSCMLO

If you watch the video you can see that it bolts to the seat tube. That _should_ work, but that seat tube on the Haibike is kinda funky. It's worth buying to see if it fits and returns it if it doesn't, but I think that the best bet is to pick out a bike that has the necessary bolt holes for a rack or buy a bike with a rack from the factory.

We had a Chariot Cougar that worked great--could haul two kids and hardly feel it. I hauled it fully loaded up some steep hills.

It won't flip over even if you fell off the bike. It worked well as a stand-alone stroller as well.

It's fairly easy to put on and take off.

The downside is price. Not only is the stroller expensive, but each attachment you may want is expensive as well.

When my son was in kindergarten we walked to school. 1/2 mile each way. And in really cold weather where the boy didn’t want to walk in the cold I used our bicycle trailer. Closed all the windows and put several sleeping bags inside each other and then he was pushed to school inside a closed environment wrapped in several layers to keep him warm. It worked really well for us. I could push 2 kindergarteners in it with no problem. The big wheels make snow easier to push thru. During bike riding conditions I could hook it up to the bike and get them there even faster.

I think they are fairly common now.

Like this one.

you can probably use a trailer, and that would be fun for easy off roading. I use the Yepp Maxi on my Brompton and my MTB Ebike conversion but I can't see how it would fit on that Haibike. It's a seat tube mount. https://www.amazon.com/Thule-Yepp-Maxi-Child-Bike/dp/B07CNG37MB

Jesus christ, can i send you a baby seat? free of charge? I have two extras sitting right in front of me. they look like this - https://www.amazon.com/iBert-Child-Bicycle-Safe-T-Seat-Red/dp/B01DQM0KEE/

I have a bbshd and will be getting a dog trailer soon.

I may go with this one:

Burley Design Tail Wagon Bike Trailer, Yellow/Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FA5UU1E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7Lstzb6X1A70N

Or this one as I sometimes have a second pup with me

Solvit HoundAbout II Pet Bicycle Trailer, Aluminum Frame, Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BT131D2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_LNstzbF6XKZNF

I've already attached a hitch that will work on the second trailer.

I also have the walkydog attachment for the dog to run along side your bike. Mine loves it but I won't take her too far with it.

I'm curious to see how my bike pulls 100lb (both dogs) with the second trailer. I also just bought a spare 52v 17.5ah battery to take with me on long trips.

I have a jogging stroller that can convert to a bike trailer that works well for my bigger kid. This isn't the exact one I have but it looks to be pretty similar, mine was a random find at Costco several years back. Mine can hold up to 100lbs and has a bench seat with straps so that you can have two kids side by side or one kid in the middle.

u/billnye97 · 2 pointsr/ebikes

I use one as well with my daughter. It is called the Weeride It comes in three different colors. My only problem is that it has a huge turning radius and sometimes my saddle gets turned if I make the turn to quick. Other than that though it’s great. I use mine with a Rad City.

I bought a cheaper folding trailer 4 years ago on Amazon for $120ish. It's just big enough for a 1/2 barrel keg. Beautiful Time Cargo Bicycle Trailer, Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M8JEGSS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Tb.DDbBJ5Y4YB

More like - https://www.amazon.com/Schwinn-SW74625-1pk-Deluxe-Carrier/dp/B0018CX1AA/

She's not yet old enough to stay on the bike yet, I dont think. But I do like your trailer! Maybe when shes a bit older.

u/FeralCalhoun · 4 pointsr/cycling

I logged over 1000 miles hauling this trailer by schwinn. It had enough room to carry tools, full size pump, picnics, and my 2 year-old daughter. My situation was unique, I lived less than 1 minute from a closed trail (mississippi rails to trails project) and I found the trailer at a discount store for $20.

I know the other trailers are nicer, lighter, whatever, but I have zero complaints about the schwinn. Also, get ready to fly after 3 months of hauling your son and then riding solo for the first time. Best fitness of my life.

EDIT: I'll also add that I was using my BMC Streetfire to haul this thing. I was worried about weight/stress on the derailleur, but I figured I'd give it a shot since I was going stir crazy as a stay at home dad. Zero issues.

u/ElSnaibs · 4 pointsr/AskReddit

I'd go with a recumbent trike and an attached trailer. You would probably be more comfortable for long distance, and you could carry plenty of gear.

There is a dedicated dog trailer for sale on Amazon

u/l33t5p34k · 1 pointr/bicycling

Oh she is probably what about 30 lbs I think you are at the upper limit.
I bought This InStep Quick N EZ Double Bicycle Trailer and she loved it, I always felt like it was going to fall off the curb or hit a pole or something. I got a Wheehoo off of craigslist and while we are riding the 5 year old likes it but for some reason when we stop she decides its scary and its going to tip so its been a struggle to get her to want to go for rides. I really like pulling the Weehoo and you can really feel when they are pedaling with you.
