Similar setup.. I don't have extra spokes, but I do bring a tube on 40+ mile rides.

Multitool is the Park I-Beam 2

CO2 is the Red Zepplin

Patch is Park Super Patch

Don't forget the Tire Lever (one if you're good, two if you ride stiff Conti's)

All easily fits in a Topeak bag

u/notnicholas · 1 pointr/CyclingMSP

For any ride over ~80 miles one-way or rurally I still pack my hand pump as that's a sure thing, but I agree: it sucks having to pump it a billion times just to get barely rideable pressure in your tires.

You will get the occasional faulty CO2 cartridge (I can remember 2, off the top of my head), and I have heard of the pump actually breaking on rare occasion by a friend of mine. But if I'm riding locally the CO2 with a couple spare cartridges is the way to go.

I have two multi-tools:

  • a very compact tool that has just +, -, and the basic allen set that I pack on my basic local routes and training rides.

  • my more versatile Park Tool Multi tool that I listed above. I pack this one on my longer rides and/or my MTB rides. I love this one, but it's a bit heavier and takes up more space.

I'll try to identify everything I see, from top, left to right:

  • Bike
  • Rider
  • Bag
  • Keys
  • GoPro straps + case
  • GoPro
  • Wallet
  • Portable speakers?
  • Extra brake caliper (smart!)
  • U-Lock
  • Bandana/handkerchief
  • iPhone 5c
  • Extra tube
  • Simple multitool (basic one similar to this)
  • Stick of gum? No idea...
  • Bottle of water
  • Tire lever (plastic)
  • Leverage-type tool. Looks to me like Park CCP-22 but he clearly doesn't have a square-taper bottom bracket so I'm not sure. I've been combing the Park catalogue, let's see if anything turns up.
  • Portable pump
  • Lighter
  • Chain whip
  • Condom
  • Deodorant
  • Some paper thing idk
  • Walking shoes
  • Pen
  • Second tire lever
  • Pedal wrench/crank wrench
  • ??? screen thing?
  • 3 hot delicious food discs

Hey guys, I'm budgeting about 1k for a bike, tools, and lock/helmet. I've got the rough of it and I was asking for advice concerning my current choices and on a ~$60 helmet.

Budget:$1,000

In this order:

Bicycle: Wabi Classic - $800

Lock: Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Mini U-Lock - $76

Helmet: ???

Tools/Misc:

Tire Pump - $18

Tool Kit - $45

Edit: I really appreciate all of the responses. Y'all have been fantastic and kind. Thank you.

u/CarbonUnit8472 · 5 pointsr/cycling

I have this one and really like it. It lets me transfer all the goods from one bike to another easily.

What I have in mine:

  • CO2 canisters ex
  • CO2 inflater ex
  • Patch kit ex
  • Tire levers ex
  • Allen key tool ex
  • Tweezers (I use these to get things like thorns out of my tire)
  • Spare chain link ex (just be sure you get the correct one)
u/Mr_Ected · 1 pointr/bicycling

I bought this kit and it has proven to be VERY useful. Just throw in a couple tubes, a patch kit and a non bike-specific multitool like a Leatherman Juice (having the knife among the other tools is quite handy).

u/DrowsyPenguin · 4 pointsr/bicycling

Just picked this up, haven't used it yet but feels well made and doesn't take much room in my saddle bag Crank Brothers F-15

The other I was considering Crank Brothers Multi 17

Also highly recommend picking up spare tubes/tire levers.

u/jackrats · 13 pointsr/whatisthisthing

It's a multi wrench.

I've always seen them for bicycles but they can have other purposes as well.

Like this:

It just has multiple sizes that are common for whatever domain it is for.

That's the tool I have, colored differently & I think I got it cheaper. Don't remember where from. I want to say academy sporting goods.

I'm told we shouldn't really use plain old wd40. Theres a line of wd40 bike products. I've only used the cleaner/degreaser, which is pretty good. I'm only about a year into being into bikes as a grownup myself, so I'm still kind of feeling my way around too.

u/grewapair · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

It's not hard. Budget about $35 to start for tools and $35 per year for the first three years. Start with chain tool, tire levers, patch kit, and a multi tool you can take with you (the link it to the one I use, but there are lots of other good ones). Then chain whip and cassette tool.

Buy parts from eBay, you can find them dirt cheap. Things like cables, cable housings, etc. can all be found cheaply if you order three weeks in advance and just stock them, at least a little before you need them.

https://www.amazon.ca/Cannondale-Head-Wrench-Multi-Tool-Lefty/dp/B000N9847Y

Cannondale did it 10 or so years ago. They just had an easier time as with their lefty, they didn't need to do anything fancy to replace the function of the star nut.

Just a 1.5 inch steerer tube!!

u/SluttyGandhi · 1 pointr/AskSF

I had my brakes done at Box Dog a few years ago for like 60 bucks.

When my front brake cable eventually wore down and snapped a couple of months ago, I looked up tutorials on Youtube, and went to Amazon for the cables. If you're just replacing the pads it's even easier. I picked up this cool hex tool down at Cliff's Hardware.

I am a commuter cyclist that lives on a hill and works on a hill, and the work that I have done has held strong. There were some frustrating moments, but if I can do it, anyone can.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/bicycling

the idea of this multi tool is that you only need the multi tool, not a second tool to make it better.

get this instead: http://www.amazon.com/Lezyne-94-59-675-SV-5-Multi-Tool/dp/B002ATFX5G/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

u/sbananasplit · 1 pointr/bicycling

I'm fixing my bike right now and I want to repaint it. How can I remove this crankset?

Possible with this tool from amazon?

I carry the crankbrothers m5. It has m3, m4, m5, m6 and a phillips head screwdriver. It's really compact and I haven't come across anything while riding that I couldn't do with it. Helps to have KMC Missing Link on the chain so I don't really worry about having a chain tool. Here's a link...

You should probably get one of these as well:

u/TheMoronWhisperer · 1 pointr/bikewrench

That's the same with Shimano Octalink, which is why crank pullers now come with a metal plug to fill that hole. Here's a link (it's the center piece): https://www.amazon.com/Chainring-Crankset-Flywheel-Remover-Shimano/dp/B06XQ2LQZH/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1502692373&sr=8-16&keywords=crank+puller

I think other tools just have a bigger center area to push against the BB.

That sucks dude... Here's my recommendations and what I personally have:

Crankbrothers F15
