I also have a galley style kitchen, with a refrigerator on one side and cabinets on the other. At first I was using 2 sets of this Evenflo baby gate. I like it because I can move it around the house as needed, but it didn't take long before my son was able to just move it out of the way no matter what I did. I tried using the stick on door lock's on the cabinets, because we rent and can't screw anything in, but I'm in SoCal and it gets so hot here that they just melted off 😂 Eventually I bought these door locks for all of my cabinets and drawers and I pretty much love them. They're not the prettiest, but damn do they work. And it's nice not having gates all over. To take them off you just use a razor blade and some goo gone and you should be set. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they don't cause any damage though.

Best locks are those they physically cannot access, so the door top locks. 2 Pack - GlideLok Child Safety Door Top Lock Made of Durable Metal (Not Plastic Like Other Models) | for Babyproofing & Childproofing Interior/Exterior Doors | Adults Can Open Door from Both Sides https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074MQPPRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BgotDbND46VGD

Have you thought about a window grate? Without being able to see your exact window, I wonder if this could work for you? (Not sure how you could use it without drilling into the window frame, though.)

Another idea: This DIY window screen/bug screen. You could add 1-2 more slats behind it, to make it a little more sturdy, but the fabric could be as thin, to allow this wind to pass through easily.

Last idea: A window fan. This might be too much wind on you during the night, but you definitely won't roll past it, and it ensures that you have air circulation at night.

So this is an add-on that I absolutely want and need in my kitchen Cabinet locks
My daughter has learned to crawl and she took to it like white on rice! So needless to say she's into everything! So for safety's sake, I need these to lock the cabinet doors. :)

Let's do it in the kitchen.

Thanks for the contest!

We got a movable baby gate/pen which was great for containing baby and blocking off dangerous areas like the fireplace.

I also like magnetic cupboard locks for drawers and cupboards.

Any clutter and cords near the floor should also be permanently moved.

If you have a pet, watch out for some reason babies love water dishes.

We weren’t able to baby proof everything. My 15 month old can get on top of my kitchen table in about 15 seconds so we always have to keep an eye on him.

What are you trying to lock? We use these now for cabinets:

  1. Flex locks

  2. Grip Locks

    And he can't get those.

When he was trying to open the doors, usually the back door to "help" let the dog out, we got these and he wasn't able to figure them out. Now he doesn't even bother, since I think the novelty has worn off.

LOL...sounds like my little guy though. The other week I was in my chair watching him play with his trains and suddenly he decided it would be a good idea for me to babysit his animals. I think he covered me with every single one of his stuffed animals, then HE wanted up so we could watch a show. He wasn't taking "there's no room for everyone" as an excuse either. Somehow he found room!

I just bought a full motion mount from Amazon and a strap for securing your tv and mount to the wall like this one: Ready America MRV3515 Travel TV Safety Strap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HJ6OCTS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yDZaBbXMK8NY7

You my friend need a door knob cover. We had to get one for the exterior door because my son was an escape artist at that age. He didn't have the grip strength to get the knob opened with the cover on it. http://www.amazon.com/Mommys-Helper-Safety-Cover-Count/dp/B00KPWFB6G

Something like these:
https://www.amazon.com/Adoric-Sliding-Cabinet-Childproof-Bathroom/dp/B074FW21SM/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=cabinet+baby+proofing&qid=1566336508&s=gateway&sr=8-12

They're cheap, effective, require no installation drilling and can be opened with one hand with no special key or tool.

u/Skyrmir · 3 pointsr/videos

Where would one find those magnetic latches? I found the baby version, but they're a bit bulky. something inset would be a good find.

EDIT: Looks like they're using Rev-A-Shelf keys and locks in the video.

u/Workasaurus · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hi, Amber! As for the child locks, if you are currently using the hook ones like these, you might want to try these, which are require a good deal more dexterity.

u/jinxlover13 · 1 pointr/breakingmom

http://smile.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Swing-Shut-Toilet/dp/B002W7M6U6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1450760545&sr=8-4&keywords=toilet+locks I like it because there's no chance of peeing on it/having to touch pee like the other types. And it's fun for when you have guests over that you don't particularly like ;)

u/Miss_Fritter · 2 pointsr/Parenting

Here's an example.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BRH1VBD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_BYDdBb70E01V8

Basically, where you install the piece that attaches to the drawer determines how it works. You may want to install it a little on the high side (so that it definitely needs pushed down to close the drawer). Hope that makes sense.

u/InMemoriamBrash · 3 pointsr/Parenting

One bag of fruit snacks each, one bowl of pop corn each, spill-proof cup of some usually-forbidden sweet drink. Turn on annoying movie that only kids like.

"Okay, Mom and Dad need to have a meeting. We will be out in a bit. Just watch the movie. Stay in your chairs."

Close door. Lock door with child-proof door top-lock.

Canoodle, too-quickly but better-than-not-ever.

Usually good for about 11 minutes, sometimes stretched to 19 or 22 minutes.

Get one of these for the door knob

Door Knob Safety Cover for Kids, Child Proof Door Knob Covers, Baby Safety Doorknob Handle Cover Lockable Design. (4 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DN895WP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JoJACbRGW53M8

These have been a godsend for when my nephews come over, they're pretty clever little kids and can get past most stuff but these they literally just can't reach.

u/busybee223 · 3 pointsr/Parenting

I like these for drawers, cabinets, doors. I have them on basically everything in my house.

Adoric 6 Pack Baby Safety Locks,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FR9HK7K?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/Kayleebug13 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

Would child locks like these work for your cabinets? You just have to pull them open slightly, then push them down to open the rest of the way. They also make some you can “disarm” by moving a tab and keeps the lock “off” when you don’t need to keep the baby out of something.

We too have a kitchen where the openings to block off just weren’t going to work with a baby gate. We just put child locks on am the cabinets as well as the oven and let her have free roam.

u/webs05 · 1 pointr/Parenting

This product saved us... https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B012BR4TGA/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1497222506&sr=8-2&keywords=child+proof+deluxe+door+top+lock

Our system is we get the little one down for bed, slide this lock, and after she falls asleep we come back over and slide it to unlock. Eventually the child learns to stop trying to get out of the room.

Literally saved the sanity of our house!

u/MeowSterling · 1 pointr/CatAdvice

Oh, this is a tough one... I was going to suggest keeping something heavy next to the door so your cat can't push it, but if it opens inwards then you won't be able to place a box inside while you're outside. The only things I can think of are electronic/wifi enabled locks or asking your landlord for permission to change the lock. It'll probably cost money, though.

Edit: Actually! I decided to Google "child proof front door" and found some options! Most allow you to unlock it front either side of the door. You might consider this one, which will require you to drill it into the door frame. Also, the door must be 1 3/8 inches big! So double check it's not too big. There are other options too, just Google it.

u/thereisnosub · 2 pointsr/raisingkids

We used these to keep the bedroom doors closed:
https://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-Child-Proof-Deluxe-Door/dp/B00MXBLOSG/

u/higginsnburke · 1 pointr/organization

Oppo ut a magnetic baby lock on the door. [like this one ](http://www.Safety.com/ 1st Adhesive Magnetic Lock System with 4 Locks and 1 Key https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B076QGS4QV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UMDYDbYM9D44S)

There is a switch on it that you can flip to make it lock always or lock never. So just flip the switch when company is expected but leave it flipped off when you're using day to day so you don't have to keep unlocking it for just yourself.

u/jonfitt · 5495 pointsr/tifu

What? A bedroom door that locks from the outside? Did your parents not understand which way round to put he lock and inadvertently create a fire death trap, or did they just keep you locked up sometimes?

[Edit: for any parent considering reversing a lock, check this out first. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MXBLOSG/ They can be opened from either side by anyone tall enough to reach the top of the door. Perfect to keep the kids away from the Tide Pods!]

u/pugsandtwins · 1 pointr/IFParents

We did the doorknob covers, but have also been recommended these. I'm sorry B isn't being cool. I feel the same way about M and his disdain for sleeping, his bed and generally any food besides blueberries.
