Amp Hours (Ah) is not a cross platform measurement of capacity. 5Ah for your phone is likely at a different voltage than the 2.6Ah LPe6 battery.

Watt hours is a true measurement of capacity because you can extrapolate the amps and volts.

What I use is an NPf 970 battery on a Blindspot plate with a 12v dc out to weipu 2 pin cable.

Companies get cute with what they quote as the "MAh capacity" of a given battery, but the Sony standard for a 970 battery is 6600MAh at 7.4v I believe, which is 48.84 Wh. I haven't really seen truly higher capacities than that despite what manufacturers say.

The Pocket 4k draws *roughly* ~25Wh of power (from my tests), depending on screen brightness, codec, frame rate, and attached accessories. So one of those batteries gets you perhaps up to 2 hours if you're lucky. If you need endurance longer than that, I HIGHLY recommend getting a VMount or Gold Mount battery instead of a battery bank, because it will allow you to expand to other cameras and lights in the future and they will provide much more power. You can get VMount batteries that go up to roughly 100Wh. These are professional cinema batteries the industry standard.


NPF batteries allow you to power other things like lights and monitors as well, plus they are small enough to gimbal mount or go handheld if you need to. Banks and VMount will be larger and heavier. That is why I chose NPF.

I would avoid connecting your mic directly to your DSLR. It will be difficult to record clean audio directly to your camera because of its noisy preamps.

This will take you $13.39 over your $150 budget, but will allow you to record a high quality track to the recorder and a safety track to your camera. It will also make your life a lot easier when it comes time to synchronize the recorder's sound track to your video. You should be able to match the waveforms from the camera and the recorder by eye.

/u/JelloSlapper is right, a shotgun would be preferable, but I don't think you have the budget for a decent one (plus, you would need a boom and someone to swing it).

I spent a little over $1000 for a phantom 2, a gopro 4 black, a 2 axis gimbal and a couple other random things like extra batteries and carrying case. The older model phantom 2 (I got mine on ebay) goes for a bout $550 with the remote and a battery but without the zenmuse gimbal. The gopro was $500. The gimbal was $50 from china and it works amazingly well. Just as good as the h3-2d imo. those three things are pretty much all you need to start getting some good shots. So for about $1100 you could have a very good aerial rig. If you're looking for fpv also you can find really god kits for around $300. I threw together a cheap FPV kit of my own with stuff I found on Amazon. $38 Transmitter/Receiver $26 Monitor $7 Antenna set $10 Gopro Video Cable $17 3s lipo

I got mine for £10 this link is more expensive but pretty sure you can find it cheaper if you look around.

Makes it so much easier to find a good spot to play especially when you realise that your psvr can be plugged straight to the PS4 without plugging it to the tv.

The vr cable cant be extended yet but a few tricks to get extra reach:

1. Remember the processor box doesnt need to be near the ps4. You can get a longer USB cord or even just reach the stock one as far from your ps4 toward your play area as possible and this will add a few feet.
   
   
2. The camera doesnt need to be near your TV so you can face angle it a different way to try to maximize your space away from the TV.
   
   
3. Having your back almost to the TV while playing, if possible with camera position and play area, can make it seem much more roomy as you wont lose the cable length that's basically winding behind your back.
   
   I've tried everything to maximize my play space so feel free to ask me any other questions.

For a handle, I first purchased the one you're looking at, only to return it and buy the 1955 NATO handle (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07145WLX3/), which is much easier add/remove (for storage purposes). It's super secure and adjustable to boot! Even comes with a allen key storage!

For SSD mounts, I bought the CAMVATE (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M66TM6J/). The Smallrig version will only mount to one designated spot on the SR cage- this CAMVATE product can mount anywhere in case you need to rebalance or configure it differently.

As for power, I opted for a CORE Powerbase; (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JFDZTXL/). It'll give you much more runtime than a NPF and especially more than LP batteries, and you can check the LCD to see how much battery you've got left instead of guessing. Though I'd also recommend grabbing a DTAP to Weipu adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KGQ869X/), so you don't have to worry about the dummy battery (and you'll also have a secondary source of power if you need to switch batteries).

Thanks but I'm in the US. I knew it was some kind of USB-b but looking at pictures of the different variants I still couldn't find it. It's most definitely not common. I have a ton of computer equipment / parts and not a single one of those. I work in IT and most of my hobbies are computer-related and I've seen it maybe once a few years back on a camera like you said.

As long as you've got reasonable amounts of light (normal overhead room lights have been sufficient) the Canon Vixia R series captures good HD video, have a mic input, and you can regularly find them in the $200 or less range. We use R700s at a small community TV station I work with and they've done very well for interview type setups. I've seen Canon refurb models go for around $170. You can get an XLR to 3.5mm cable and use a handheld mic like a Shure SM-58 or you can go with a shotgun mic. Be aware that the way most of those XLR to 3.5mm cables are wired can cause some weird problems, the simple fix is to turn off the right channel when you pull the video into your editing app.

The current "ENG" rig the station uses is a Canon Vixia R700 mounted to an inexpensive "scorpion" frame (like this) with an inexpensive shotgun mic in the cold-shoe. I've tried a Takstar Shotgun Mic and it works well for the price. You can spend a bit more and get one of the R0DE mics instead.
If you already have a Zoom H4n you can take the line out of it and plug it into the mic in on the camera, although you might need an attenuation cable to match levels.

We mount the whole thing (handle and all) on a tripod when we need stable shots. I set this up as something I could send out with people with no experience and it's worked well. With only a few lessons in framing, being aware of lighting, and how to plug in the cables we've gotten some good results.

Your best bet if you want to go via USB is to setup a Windows XP virtual machine and pass through the camera to that. Something like this guide is probably your best bet. With a XP virtual machine and the original drivers you should be able to capture the video.

Not sure if any Elgato cards actually do analogue inputs but if they do, then you look to need a 3.5mm to video/audio cable for that.

I chain one of these with a 1/8" male to 1/4" male audio cable and it works great with my Hero 3+. I have a 1/4" splitter as well that I haven't used - I prefer to just use a spare passenger jack, and haven't yet tried to record in a situation where none were available.

I honestly have a headache from searching for the most suitable sound recording setup... Would appreciate some help.

• Does getting a tascam dr-40 along with the cheap takstar sgc-598 make sense? The mic doesn't have xlr..but I can't buy a decent xlr-capable recorder along with a decent shotgun mic now. and I still need the shotgun mic for my camera and scene I shoot where I am basically running.

Well the good news is that they sell those ribbon cables in varying lengths (12", 24", 6.5ft) and they're relatively cheap. I switched over to a webcam several months ago which has a fairly long USB cable so it's a non-issue for me now.

My intention is to mount the camera to the 'ceiling' of the enclosure, near the front, looking down on the build plate. I only use the camera for monitoring my prints from a distance so that seems like a logical location. It's either that or on one of the corner legs just above the level of the build plate.

Anyway, my advice: A longer cable is cheaper than a replacement Raspberry Pi.

Edit: But as far as syncing audio to video, just make sure you clap a couple times in front of the camera and mic. That is how I sync my audio and video.

I bought a pi cam but I also bought some longer ribbon cables so that I can have my raspberry pi further away.

I've tried to lift the black gate with some tweezers to release the ribbon because it looks that simple but its giving me a whole lot of resistance. I'm afraid if I try any more I'll break it.

HDMI to RCA requires an active converter which means it needs its own power source. I am wondering why SDI? Some sort of old-school SD monitor? Also, the GH4 can output analog to RCA with this cable.

There is a sony original extension cable for ps4 camera although pricey. 2meters for 30 eur, basically 40 usd for 6 feet.

First, I'm not sure what you mean about not seeing the live feed while recording. I mainly shoot in 1080p 60 for smoothness and I can see the preview of what's being recorded at all times. There is a 500ms delay, but for my purposes it's doable. I have noticed that some resolutions will not output preview, I believe 4k is one of them.

For the video cable, you'd just need the cable that you'd use for the gopro to an analog video device, like this. The WG has the mini USB for this output.

The tripod mini ball attaches to the lighting rig stand, and the smartphone mount attaches to the ball. I expand the clip to fit the PSVR camera with its' plastic stand folded into a "]" shape and lock it into place. You can probably build something similar for cheaper but I didn't think this was too bad. The extension cable helps for more complex setups where being compact isn't necessary or isn't possible for whatever reason.

You're sending line level audio to a mic level input, which is causing your issue. If money is no object use one of these

Keep in mind that once your PSVR is all configured for the first time with your PS4, you no longer have to worry about your TV location at all, as there really is no need to have it connected to your PS4/PSVR setup anymore unless you plan on still using the TV for PS4 flat gaming with the best possible picture.

There is a 3rd party extension for the camera, but unfortunately multiple extension cables cannot be linked together. So you can only go with one extension cable for the camera.

I am in the same situation, and haven't heard anything formal yet. However, I have seen that the UK version of Amazon is listing an extension cable with a release date of Sept 25. Amazon UK. So I am not sure if that is official, and if it will be available and/or work in other regions.

Basically the issue is two-fold. The camera cable has a proprietary plug, so someone would have to either license it from Sony or reverse engineer it. AND, it is a powered cable, which is why some people who have tried splicing it themselves have failed. The power can't go further than 3 meters or so, without an additional power source.

If you just re-render as mono sound, that will make it worse. You need to re-render with only the left or right channel or you need to reverse the phase of either the left or right channel.

The cable should be fine. Unless you have a faulty ground somewhere, I have no idea why the channels are reversed. You may find that when you do find the ground problem that your audio level to the camera will be too high. Normally you need an attenuator if you are taking a headphone-level signal into a camera mic input.
