Short, succinct and to the point, good sir. I like the cut of your jib!

Ok, so here's the skinny. I've never been on a cruise before so I did a bit of research and found that it's basically a floating bar, one which will add many hundreds of dollars over the course of a week if you like to imbibe. Myself, I don't drink that much so a few drinks here and there aren't going to break the bank, but we were travelling with some friends who do like to party but they're in tough financial straits right now (and wouldn't be buying drinks anyway) so I wanted to see if I could make their cruise a bit more merry on a budget.

Enter the Rum Runner™ knockoff, a sweet bit o' kit that works like a charm. They currently sell for $16.77 on Amazon Prime. I am NOT affiliated with this company or industry in ANY way, this was just the least expensive one I saw on Amazon. They worked fine, with zero leaks.

You get nine (9) heavy duty, reusable concealable flasks which collectively hold about two (2) 1.75 liters, one (1) fifth and a couple of pints of various alcohols. I brought one 1.75 liter of Bacardi rum, one 1.75 liter of Ketel One vodka, a fifth of Jose Cuervo tequila and a pint of Pendleton whiskey and a half pint of Captain Morgan spiced rum.

The trick is to fill them to about 85% capacity, squeeze out all the air before you cap them, place them in a gallon ziplock bag in case they leak (mine never leaked), hide them among your various toiletries in another gallon ziplock and then cushion them wrapped in a pair of jeans or a sweater. We spread them out among four suitcases and made sure that they only travelled in bags that we checked, not carry-ons. They only have so much time to x-ray all the bags before they drop them off in front of your cabin, and since the caps are the only thing that show up on the x-ray, it just looks like another random toiletry item.

They all arrived undetected, unmolested, with no leaks and a good time was had by all.

I used to have a GSI collapsible flask-bladder, but it developed a leak around the neck. Since then, I've picked up a Stanley Adventure e-Cycle Flask. It's made of recycled plastic, doesn't impart any taste as far as I've noticed, and weighs about 130g for 7 oz of capacity. No leak problems, and the entire top unclips and swivels off, so it's really easy to be absolutely sure it's clean. 7oz is plenty for me for almost any trip I'd take, as I prefer not to drink much while backpacking.

I don't know if it's the lightest option out there, but I'm happy with it. The lighter option, for me, is to not bring whiskey at all. This is remarkably convenient if I'm hiking in a group, as the other hikers will often bring too much drink of their own, and be grateful that I am able to use some up to lighten their load, and it doesn't go to waste. It's a win-win for me :)

I use a plastic flask. Fill up two 8oz ones and stuff it in the front of my shoe. I step on the heal tab and wear it as sandals as I cross. Once I get through security I take it out, put it in my pocket and I’m pretty primed for the evening.

Totally agree, it's not worth it. I've done this too and not only did it take forever to get ready, the alcohol just tasted like mouthwash. Couldn't drink any of it, so if I wanted to drink on the cruise I had to buy alcohol anyway. Get [these] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F5OCEA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687682&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003JQUCGY&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=027MBSNFYAKYZWK6K18R) instead. A little more expensive, but then you don't waste the alcohol or time. I've used the above and it worked like a charm.

Stanley makes a nice one. Check it out on Amazon. I like that it is easy to clean and fill.

They work great- really easy to get liquor onboard with them.

Rum Runners There are a ton of sizes on Amazon. I've seen them work great for everything from cruises to sporting events. You won't get them for today, but good resource for the season.

u/sorry4partying · -1 pointsr/Cruise

Dude. If you want vodka, buy rum runners and sneak it on. I have successfully done it on 2 cruises. It will save you a fortune.

I'm pretty sure what you actually need is one of these: Refillable plastic flasks

u/CheesyPeteza · 2 pointsr/videos

They still get through the x-ray. You just need to use rum runners and put them in places where the shape is changed. Inside shoes are best.

Just let go of your anxiety. Either it'll work or it won't, but they won't kick you off the boat. I studied the advice given here (literally dozens of threads) and on Cruise Critic, and ended up getting some "Rum Runners" knockoffs on Amazon. We filled them up with two 1.75L bottles of vodka for our 15-day Princess cruise last year. Just read the reviews for Rum Runners and this item... 95-99% of the reviews say "no issues, no leaks, security didn't catch us". On each, there are a few reviews where people get caught and the booze gets confiscated, but the odds are very much in your favor. Security is random, and rushed, and they only have so much time when they're trying to turn over a boat.

The advice that was most common from successful cruise booze smugglers was A) stash them as separately as possible (not all in one bag) and B) wrap them in jeans or other large clothing items in your CHECKED baggage. I repeat, DO NOT carry these on as there is a lot more scrutiny for what comes onboard on your person. Smuggle the liquor in your checked baggage only. We did just this, storing the larger pouches inside jeans, and stuffing the smaller flasks inside shoes or shorts spread out between two suitcases. I have heard that your toiletry case is not a good idea because it's a common place for security to randomly check for drugs, etc.

At any rate, we followed all of this advice and when our bags got to our cabins, everything was exactly where we left it, including every ounce of vodka that we stashed. We didn't double-bag (though I would next time), and nothing spilled.

Like I said, just don't worry about it. Try it, or don't. If they find it, it'll just be gone--again, it's not like they'll kick you off of the boat.

Haven't ventured much into the flask world but I stumbled across this on clearance for something like $3 a couple years back. Mine is green. Not the most UL thing but 150g isn't terrible.

Can't puncture, hasn't leaked, easily refillable/washable, and at 7oz it's enough for short trips. There's always beer with me too.

Believe this is the one. No, probably not, but this is my first stainless steel waterbottle so maybe that's why. And it keeps it cold for a long time, would recommend. Didn't get it there, got it in my supermarket but they look almost identical.

I like those leather pouches that are made for wine. I will try to send a link.

Something like this. They sell them at most liquor stores and will pass the wand check and not look obvious.

u/Gumburcules · 20 pointsr/washingtondc

> I usually bring a flask to Nats Park and buy a coke at concessions.

Protip:

Nats let you bring in a sealed bottle of water.

Bring a pot of water to a boil, turn off the heat. Take two sealed bottled waters, and cut the top 1/3 of the bottle off of one, and take just the cap and sealing ring off the other.

Soak the cut off bottle top in the hot water for 30 seconds or so. This will make the plastic pliable enough that you can pull off the intact cap and sealing ring without breaking the seal.

Fill the second bottle with your clear liquor of choice, and carefully screw the intact cap and seal from the first bottle onto the second.

Presto, you just got 16.9 ounces of white rum into Nats stadium.

Or you can be lazy and just stick one of these in your underwear.

u/ben010783 · 23 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I usually see the Classic Flask recommended, and that one is made of metal.

u/bucknut86 · 3 pointsr/CFB

Back in my student section days (Oh who am I to lie, I did this last season as well) we took take those plastic bladder flasks you can buy on amazon that won't go off through the metal detector. Those hold a lot more than the airline bottles or even most flasks.

u/THISISDJLOS · 8 pointsr/funny

Buy yourself a set of 'disposable flasks' and add whatever liquor you want. Now you have one of these things using any liquor of your choice!

u/anothercat · 4 pointsr/EDC

This is the actual flask if anyone was wondering ( I was).

u/awesomeness1234 · 1 pointr/travel

If booze are not included, get yourself some of these.

They do not show up on the x-rays.

Get yourself a plastic flask, fill it up with your favorite bourbon, and smuggle it in under your puffy winter jacket: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XBIW8NA

Not only does this get around your problem, it will also save you a lot of $$$. Furthermore, cold beer at winter outdoor events kind of sucks IMO. Last thing you need is cold liquid freezing your core. Smuggled in whiskey will warm you up nicely.

Dude what a waste of time, just get a rum runner kit and follow the instructions on how to pack them. Works ever single time for me http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Rum-Runner®-Smugglers-Revenge/dp/B002XJCR5W

u/WhippyFlagellum · 16 pointsr/DIY

Can confirm. Went on three cruises with no problems. In fact, the last cruise, the wife and I did a double cruise and brought a good 6-7 liters in our bags to last the whole trip and get friends drunk while we were at it. No one was the wiser. Get rum runners and avoid having your booze taste like minty shit.
