Personally I think it is worth it, especially if you do what I did. I bought mine off ebay from bestbuy as an open box, cost me 850ish dollars plus tax and an upgrade to next day shipping, which brought the total up to about $950.

At that price, for me its unarguable. If it had been like 1200 or so, i might of had to think about it. But at that price, it seems like one of the best choices out there.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Open-Box-Excellent-Dell-G7-15-6-Laptop-Intel-Core-i7-8GB-Memory-NVI/323328281085?hash=item4b47de09fd:g:RQYAAOSwx3dblLBx:rk:2:pf:1&frcectupt=true

It was indeed open box but mine came in perfect condition. You might not like this option, but it is a way to get it much cheaper. The sale price seems to change every so often

But despite the open box, I was able to get the full premium plus warranty from dell for it for roughly 4 years (3 years 7 months or so, due to the fact it was open box I believe.)

I think the ram should be upgraded however at least if you get into ram intensive tasks. And they do offer a 16gb ram openbox and new option from the bestbuy ebay store, and I am sure if you hunt around you will find an openbox at a physical bestbuy location if you look.

If anything my ram was the only down side to this buy. But I intended to upgrade this anyhow and will be using crucial's compatibility guarantee program to make my purchase of 32gb of ram. This ram issue might not be a problem for you, however I run VM's for work and genuinely need the extra ram for things to actually run or the VM's have a high likelihood of not running or crashing.

I also dropped a 2 TB seagate firecuda hard-drive (SSHD) in my laptop with no problem ( I disabled UEFI secure boot and made sure the bios was up to date, and it worked perfectly on the first try). 96$ from amazon. I got probably 1tb worth of games on it already :P.

Going with an 8gb model gave me a few advantages as well, for example this laptop seems to come with dual sticks of ram no matter if you buy the 16gb or 8gb model. IF you want to upgrade to 32gb of ram, expect to throw away the old ram. Also the 8gb version came with a 256gb ssd, which is not a bad size and one less thing I have to worry about upgrading. Consider that I have used 98gb on my installation already...

So overall for my particular case, if I went with the 16gb version, in the matter of a month or two the following things would of happened.

I would of thrown out the ram, as I need the 32gb of ram and cannot reuse the old sticks in this particular latptop after an upgrade.

I would of thrown out the SSD, because just my base install I have done now would of ate all of the storage space. For reference I am using 98gb of ssd space, and have only 1 game installed on the ssd (csgo)

And I would of thrown out the HDD, because my base install has already used the entire storage space that drive would of provided. For reference I used about 1tb of storage already but I do have like most of my games installed (something like 47 games). I did that because I can lol, The other 1tb is dedicated to VM's and production related stuff.

Your end result might not be the same, if you are not intending to use it for the type of work like I do, you might have an advantage going with the 16GB model instead. Each person's usage and goals will differ.

There are some things to consider however

This thing does not have the ultimate battery life of like 10 hours you can find on other laptops.

I find that it lasts anywhere from 3~4 or so.

You cannot play games while on battery, at least not on anything close to high or medium settings without huge frame rate drops. And expect gaming to eat battery life much quicker.

I am saying this because, if you have never had a gaming laptop, you should be informed to expect this. My alienware had the same issue on both performance and battery life.

I did find a way to cheat this, by buying one of these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0713XJBG2

it gave me at least an hour maybe hour and a half of gaming time, and I suspect it will give 4~8 more hours of normal web browsing usage but I haven't tried it fully yet. It can be very useful if you are mobile and need to use your laptop for production. However I don't think you can bring it on carry-on at an airport due to the restrictions of battery sizes by TSA, you should be able to put it in checked luggage however.

Other than the battery life, I personally cannot find too many cons about this laptop. It seems to be a solid performer overall, and has all the modern features you need like the fancy new thunderbolt connection (40Gbps), and support for NVME high speed drives as well as a regular 2.5" drive (as long as its 7mm or less in thickness) . And the build quality seems very good.

Its not very flashy and the cost to performance ratio is way up there. It has the amazing 10 series nvidia graphics card and ddr4 ram and the latest generation intel processor with an insane 12 cores and even turbo boosts on 6 cores up to something like 3.9 ghz which is pretty fast.

Overall its not a bad piece of kit, and I don't think you can build a desktop for much cheaper than this with very similar specs. That is to say, I don't think its way over priced. Unlike the alienware 15 with almost the same specs for 1800

I will say however,

One of the other options is the Acer predator

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Overclockable-Aeroblade-PH315-51-78NP/dp/B07CTHLX8C

I might of made your decision harder, but there are videos comparing these two and some others at the same time. It might be worth the look at them, overall your going to have to decide what you like more. They basically come down to preference. There are a few laptops with these specs at this price range. For me, the dell has the understated look that can pass for professional, the capability I needed, and a brand I really trust, so it was a no brainier.

But at the end, they are all going to be great bang for your buck, the pricing on this and the other direct competitors to this laptop are solid imo.

I don't know about the reliability of the others, I don't remember having to replace lots of parts in the other brands. Only HP has really had some serious bunks that I can remember, I changed way more HP motherboards than any other laptop. But I have owned Dell's and they never failed me so I stick by what I know is usually solid..

No matter what you get, if you intend to keep it many years. You need to get the warranty and max it out if you can. If you intend to keep it as long as you say, you will want accident protection and everything, and make sure you read reviews on the warranties. You don't want to find out after you break it that the warranty you got is bulls#$%. Dell has a lot of business contracts, and they have solid warranties there, and as a result those solid warranties trickle down to consumers as well. I know I've had nothing but the best warranty support from them.

On a side note, here are a few few recommended accessories to protect your laptop no matter what you buy, its not a bad idea to get something like the following

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HBDDW8

Hardened glass screen protector

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DA2OMKS

Water and dust Resistant keyboard cover to give an extra step against a drop of water penetrating the keyboard and ruining the motherboard underneath.

It should be noted that I do not get paid for any of these items, you'll notice none of them are links to a compensated account somewhere.

I just like dell products and have had good experiences with them. This is just another case of a product that I think is great and worth the money.

One thing that I did when I first started learning Russian was typing on the keyboard, which helped me learn the words faster as I'm always on the keyboard. If you're like me and not fast with a Russian keyboard, I suggest you use Google Input Transliteration Tools. What this does is allows you to spell Russian words with an English keyboard by transliterating the English characters into Cyrillic characters.

For example: If I were to type "ya ot tebya bez uma."(I'm crazy about you.) then the computer would automatically change it into "Я от тебя без ума." You can try this out by going to Google Translate and typing in English characters. All you have to do is install that program, it will download the dictionaries from Google, and after that it is a keyboard that you switch to just like the Russian keyboard in Windows. This made it very easy for me to type Russian, and even though I like typing with an actual Russian layout, I will admit that this way is faster especially if you're already fast on an English keyboard. There is also a way to do this as an add-on for Chrome by pressing Ctrl + G, but I don't think using it is as easy and I think it only works in Chrome.
If you have any more questions, I can try to answer them.

And yes, I agree with Fuloran 100% that the hardest thing by far, especially as an English speaker where it's not a big thing, is verb conjugation.

Also, if you want good Russian stickers, I can recommend these and these. The first set of stickers have a transparent background so that the original letters from the keyboard show through. I use the transparent stickers on my mechanical gaming keyboard so that the backlighting can show through, and they don't slow me down at all. I use the second set of stickers, which have a black background, on my laptops/Chromebooks.

Think about how long it took you to be proficient in English and how you had to go to school to learn some of the grammer. One of the best things about Russian is there is quite a few English cognates and this makes it really easy to pick up some words.
One of the hardest things for me when I was first learning the alphabet was distinguishing a Cyrillic R from an English P because they look the same. Another one was a Cyrillic N from an English H. If you can get past these, the alphabet is easy. I would say that the unique letters(Д, Л, Ж ,Э, Ц, Ю, Ч, Ф) are definitely the easiest because you are learning them, not relearning or reassigning a sound. Some good ways that I learned was talking with other Russian speakers through a messaging client. If you play games with Russian communities(maybe join a Russian TF2 server) maybe try and add/talk to some people on there. I don't know if you play it, but there is a Russian League of Legends server, I play there and talk to people sometimes. You just have to use your resources. I think the best resource is a native Russian speaker because they can give you good, common pronunciation that will help you the most.

Удачи, приятель! :)

Here's what I recommend:

Physical stuffs:

  • USB-C dongles (if you need them and don't have them already)
  • Laptop sleeve/case/bag (if you don't have one already and feel like you might need it)
  • Maybe a keyboard cover – Butterfly keyboard reliability woes. You might be a lucky one who has no problems, but are you willing to take that risk? That being said, you can always file a keyboard replacement from Apple's keyboard replacement program...
  • A good wireless mouse – I tend to get hand cramps when I use the trackpad for an extended period of time. Maybe it's just me though...
  • External display – even my 15-inch MacBook Pro gets cramped sometimes. Depending on your workflow, you may want to invest in an external monitor.
    • And a good keyboard and mouse to go with it :)

      Mac-specific Software:

  • SMCFanControl (FREE) or MacsFanControl (FREE) – Apple likes to keep Macs, especially MacBooks as quiet as possible without much consideration to heat. If you do anything remotely intensive, you'd better get one of these to keep your machine cool.
  • Magnet ($1.99) – Allows for Windows-like snapping features for your windows.
  • Dozer (FREE) – Allows you to hide menu bar icons
  • NightOwl (FREE) – Allows you to change from Light to Dark mode on a schedule
  • Alfred (FREE) – Spotlight search but massively improved
  • Amphetamine (FREE) – Keep your Mac awake (i.e. when file downloads, etc.)
  • DaisyDisk ($9.99) – Manage your storage space
  • AppCleaner (FREE) – When you uninstall apps, they leave behind hidden files which this app will delete for you.

    Other software:

  • Todoist/Any.do (FREE) – Manage your tasks and reminders
  • Google Keep (FREE) – Manage your notes
  • Firefox/Opera (FREE)– Browse the web. What I've found is that Safari will give you the best battery life, but it lacks extensions. Chrome on the other hand is a huge resource (battery and RAM in particular) hog. I personally use Firefox, but Opera is also a good choice. Opera also supports installing Chrome extensions.
  • Pocket (FREE) – Save articles for later
  • Spark (FREE) – Best email client I've ever used

That about does it for me. Thanks for reading :)

Since you have the laptop here are a few accessories I've used and like.
This is underwatt (xps wants 45) but still accepted (min 29 watt) It will charge more slowly compared to the standard chargers, the trade off is slow charge=less battery wear. So for an end of the day plug it in and leave it, its perfect.
Anker 30 watt charger

This is a newer company. Both the battery and wall charger I received were very well packaged, built, and form factored. It charges at full speed 45 watt, ideal for on the go.
dodocool 20100mAh 45W PD Portable Charger

I tested two of these magnetic usb C PD charging cables, this one is much better designed. It works as well as the new gen apple magsafe adapter and its reversible.
Breaksafe Cable

This works well with that /\ also surprisingly hard to find good usb c couplers or extensions.
USB-C Extension Cable

Finally this thing that i begrudgingly love. The XPS screen and keyboard like to smush against each other in my bag, marking the display. I've heard stories of scratching the panel. This protector has eliminated that, protects it from dust/liquid and its quieter to type on. The adhesive it comes with is garbage and the softer keys take a second to get used to.
TPU Clear Keyboard Protector

u/guitar574 · 1 pointr/mac

I did a bit of looking around on the internet and it looks like when ordering, there does seem to be a difference between the 11" and 13" keyboard.

If you can, I'd definitely go with one of the clear TPU covers though. It's a slightly different material from silicone and it DOES affect how the keys feel, but you get used to it pretty quick and I like the material better than silicone. It all comes down to personal preference, but here is a nice and cheap one I found on Amazon. I have the same cover for my 13" MacBook Pro and I love it, it's really not bad at all once you get used to the texture. Doesn't really impede my typing much anymore, I can still get ~110wpm with minimal errors just fine.

u/adminthekid · -2 pointsr/applehelp

It is possible to replace just the keyboard. It's fairly cheap, but it is time consuming and I wouldn't recommend that repair to the inexperienced. Better to try to find a small tech shop that will do it for you. If they have the part on hand they will (or at least should) test to make sure that it is actually a problem with the keyboard and not the logic board before they start really digging into the computer.

If you do want to risk it on your own what you will need is an a1278 keyboard like this one and a screw set for it too. and the necessary screwdrivers (a #00 Phillips, and a T8 if I recall properly. A small flat head is also useful) Now, that keyboard is the replacement part for the non-retina MBP but it is the same keyboard that is in MBPr units. The only difference is how they are attached to the topcase.

On the MPBr the keyboard is riveted in place. So what you have to do is strip the computer down to just the top case assembly and tear off the keyboard. It requires a fair amount of force to remove the keyboard so you have to be careful how you apply force as not to bend the top case.

From there you can put in the new keyboard. The rivets that went flying will leave perfectly lined up holes in the topcase that you can use the screws to hold the keyboard in place. The holes are not threaded, but the aluminum of the topcase is soft enough that the screws don't need treads.

Here is a link to a video some someone doing that repair on a 15" MBPr. It's not the best video but it should give you a good idea of what you would be getting into.

Edit:
I realize I didn't answer your question the first time so I'm back haha.
Two years ago I asked an Apple store employee what they used to wipe down all Apple products because everything was so clean. Like no fingerprint stains on any of the keyboards, immaculate iPad and iPhone screens.

He told me they used "Whoosh" cleaner and microfiber cloths, both available on Amazon.
https://smile.amazon.com/WHOOSH-Award-Winning-Screen-Cleaner-Antimicrobial/dp/B00DOPW5L0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1502605520&sr=8-3&keywords=whoosh
I've used Whoosh on my own Macbook Pro and indeed it cleaned my screen effectively, but I haven't needed to use it on the keyboard since I use keyboard covers. Also, this was on the 2015 Macbook Pros. Ymmv since we're now talking about the 2017 MBPs, but if you ever stop by an Apple store, you can always ask them what they use - or if they use/ever used Whoosh.

Original post:
If you don't mind the frosty look on your keys, I'd recommend a keyboard cover. I've used one on my Macbook Pro 13 2015 since the launch week and buy a new one every half year or so for cleanliness reasons.

In my limited experience, a brand called Uppercase has pretty consistent quality. Good luck!

u/cbartdesign · 2 pointsr/photoshop

The reason you need a modifier key combo is that you don't want to flip the art when you are typing in values.

You might like the external keypads for Photoshop and Lightroom. The downside is that if you get good with them and are contracted for offsite work, you'll have to convince a potential employer that you have to have this hardware and software to complete your tasks.

Best to stick close to the defaults - overlays like these can help you learn them.

Personally, I took a red sharpie to my work keyboard and wrote 1-12 on the F-keys so I could see them better in the dimly-lit workplace.

u/speaks_in_subreddits · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

What I'm looking for:

  • full-sized
  • Cherry MX Blues (or a competing brand's tactile+clicky switches)
  • an "analog" volume control (I want a dedicated volume button that I spin. I don't want to have to "hold the Function key and press F12 over and over")
  • ideally, RGB backlighting
  • if not, then backlighting of some sort.

I had already done my homework and the Corsair K70 RGB was the keyboard for me. I was just waiting for the right opportunity. The opportunity just arrived, and in one fell swoop I learned that there's a new version of the K70 RGB out, the K70 LUX RGB, but it looks like Amazon is sold out of them with Blues!

Unless I find something, I'll probably buy the K70 LUX with red backlighting. Are there any alternatives that have all of the above and RGB backlighting? I'm open to anything.

    Thanks!
u/BulletBarryComeBack · 1 pointr/BulletBarry

Okay, I would highly recommend a Corsair K70 with MX Brown switch then if in an environment with other people or a dormitory, however, MX Blue would be highly recommended since you can feel when you push with a rather ingenious literal switch, downside (if you call it a downside :P) is the clicky nature to the MX Blues.

The K70 by Corsair with Cherry MX Blues was my first mechanical keyboard and still do like it, if you don't care about changing the color, or need to use macros, yea K70 nonstop, (it is a red backlight with 3 adjustable brightness settings, not including off)

the cons to the k70 (and most razer/corsair mechanical keyboards) is they don't have a standard bottom row, so if you ever want to change the keycaps due to color, style, etc. it would be safe bet to just leave the Ctrl Win Alt [space] Alt Win Options Ctrl and just change the rest if you ever want to.

Sidenote: K70 LUX is cheaper than OG K70, and the K70 LUX can let you macro all the keys at your disposal, so I will link the K70 LUX instead (only minor gripe is keycaps, but you can go to parts and accessories on their website and get K70 Classic keycaps if you are interested (29.99 annoyingly enough))

This is the computer I have and it works fine. I edit my Olympus OMD E-M1ii 20 megapixel files just fine. My computer does run a little slower because my external hard drive is NTFS that is a Microsoft hard drive file system. Macs can read NTFS hard drives out of the box just fine but they can't write to NTFS without going into the kernel and changing a setting. I run a third party program that let's my Mac write to NTFS. Seagate offers a free program. Here is

Paragon NTFS for Mac 15

https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/ntfs-driver-for-mac-os-master-dl/

If you format a external hard drive to Mac format it will run faster. I just did not do this because for a few reasons. One I already had a lot of files on this hard drive when the drive was hooked up to my Dell. Also I have Windows 10 installed on this Mac as a second OS for a few other programs that are not on Mac and Windows. There are a few ways for Windows to read Mac and Mac to read Windows out of the box. If a drive is FAT 32 or EXFAT these are open file systems that Microsoft made open to everyone. There is FAT16 and I think even something lower then FAT16 but no one uses those anymore unless for really old PC computers for some retro stuff.

Also I recommend you getting a slip cover for you Mac keyboard. This brand is very good and this is what I use.

About 3 years ago, I spilled a glass full of champagne on my 2011 13" MBP keyboard. I field stripped that computer so fast you wouldn't believe it.

Fortunately, most of the damage was just in the keyboard. It was very sticky for a while, enough that I just used it with a keyboard/mouse/monitor plugged in externally. I did end up replacing the keyboard myself, which cost me about $50 in parts and a chunk of my sanity. There are a lot of screws involved, but boy, having that new keyboard was pretty sweet. Something along these lines:

http://www.amazon.com/Macbook-Pro-keyboard-assembly-A1278/dp/B0065UZMJ8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396840308&sr=8-2&keywords=keyboard+replacement+for+macbook+pro

Honestly, you're not going to fix the sticky part without replacing the keyboard. These are not desktop keyboards or even typical laptop keyboards.

The GhostCover is great, doesn’t leave any marks on the screen, and it doesn’t get all sticky and weird. It’s also incredibly thin (0.12 mm thick). I have one for my MacBook Pro 2017 13” and it is awesome

Edit: just make sure to buy the right size and version

The k70 lux is barely above $100 on amazon. I personally love corsair keyboards, but I'm sure there will a lot more keyboards that are even better.

Oh, and a lot of people hate the design of the keycaps apparently, honestly can't blame them for that tbh

These seem to be similar to what you are described (plus, it looks like they come in multiple color options).

I know you specified stickers but I have found [this] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AVBHMPY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) keyboard cover to work great and it's less permanent. Just another option to consider.

u/mikeybox · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

You can't use QMX clips because they need Cherry keycaps which won't fit on the Corsair non standard layout.

You probably don't want to desolder all the switches and install silenced switches.

I'd say your best bet, though they aren't popular here, are orings. Like these:
ThreeBulls 120Pcs Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners Keycap white For Cherry MX Key Switch Keyboards Dampers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N75JL0F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_24BJAbAJ1ATCT

They aren't ideal but they would make the keyboard quieter than it is now. You remove each keycap, slide the oring onto the keycap stem, and put the keycap back on.

If this isn't quiet enough, your best bet is to build or buy a keyboard with silenced switches such as cherry silent red or Zilents etc., or else a Topre board in which you can install silencing rings.

I have my keyboard cover on my MacBook for about 2 weeks and nothing happened to the screen. The cover is so thin you can barely notice so I guess it doesn't touch the screen. If you do get one make sure you get this one from amazon - it's the best https://www.amazon.com/UPPERCASE-GhostCover-Premium-Keyboard-Protector/dp/B01MRKLH27/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=Keyboard+cover&qid=1566389511&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I gotta echo everyone's sentiments in that Corsair's MKBs are not a good value for their cost, but the Corsair K70 Lux with MX blues is in stock on Amazon. If you can do without the RGB & macro keys, the K70 is a much better value IMHO.

The company is not good at English but it fits great and performs to what I expected for $10

u/metroidgus · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

the thing is I price wise there isn't a difference in pricing brown switches cost the same as Red or Blue yet every major brand pumps out a bunch of keyboard with the switches that'll let everyone on your party know that you have a mechanical keyboard

u/Helpingly · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

You won't find anything for the bottom row since nobody but corsair uses that bottom row (that I know of).

Also, what do you mean by macro keycaps? If you want keycaps that say whatever you want, the easiest way would be to get these relegendable keycaps

https://www.amazon.com/Genovation-0405009012-RELEGENDABLE-CHERRY-KEYCAP/dp/B00J0MR19W

However, if you want something that is a bit higher quality, you can make your own keycaps over at WASD Keyboards.

iPhone is definitely my window mount for my car. I've had it since January and have had exactly zero issues with it, in temps as low as -5 and high as 108. Woo!

For my MacBook, I really really really dig my uppercase keyboard protector since I tend to snack and surf. Keeps all the crummies out of my keyboard! :D

For my iPad, it's my zagg keyboard case

It comes in a variety of different color combinations as well.

air air air

Go to the apple store, try 11" and 13". In your case, I'd say get 256 GB.

If you think you will need more storage, GO FOR 512. Yes, SSD storage is expensive, but the weight of the computer I am typing this on is so great for school...

also, regardless of which mac, get a keyboard cover and a sleeve - I would recommend 11" keyboard cover 13" keyboard cover 13" sleeve (no experience with 11" sleeves, sorry)

u/ms285907 · 1 pointr/macbookpro

I would definitely get one. I bought a 2016 MacBook Pro TB and accidentally spilled water directly on the keyboard.. Needless to say, after spending ~$1400 to repair my laptop, I've invested in a keyboard cover, hard shell case and sleeve. Never again.. Never again 😪

This one is great! I barely notice it.

Does he want lights? And what size (does it have arrow keys or a numpad)? What's your budget?

This is the K70 with blue switches.

Considered a very solid keyboard, especially if he likes Corsair. If he's looking for something more exotic, or the opposite, there are plenty of other boards that would work, especially different brands. Leopold is my favorite, but they're not flashy.

I don’t directly have an answer to your question, as I haven’t noticed anyone putting a value on that.

If I understand your question correctly, I think the only thing that will affect this is the switch plate construction. Since a more flexible plate or keyboard with pcb mount switches will cushion your bottom out more.

Also, if you didn’t already know, they haveo-rings that go on the keycap stems to make the bottom out quieter. A side effect of this is they will squish when you bottom out lessening the impact

u/Zaxster99 · 1 pointr/LogitechG

Repping r/mechanicalkeyboards here. Built several custom keyboards over my life and have certifications in soldering.

DO NOT GLUE IT It will either gum up the switch, making it useless, or it will make the switch unbelievable scratchy. Seriously, do not listen to the people saying glue/epoxy. It will not work.

You're going to have to replace the switch. It's extremely easy and simple. Here's a guide. Just go on amazon and order your switch (Red Brown Blue).

  1. Take the keyboard apart so you can get access to the PCB

  2. Locate the broken switch.

  3. Remove the solder on the pins of the switch

  4. Flip the board back over and CAREFULLY, as to not scratch anything, press in the two plate-mount tabs on the sides using your fingernails or a plastic tool. The switch should come out with a little wiggling

  5. Installation is the opposite of removal. Put new switch in, make sure the tabs click in.

  6. Add solder to new switch (Video guide)

  7. Reassemble the keyboard and test it out!

See the thing is, for me, I have a transparent keyboard cover FROM ebay. Idk if these name branded ones are worth the money or not so I would prefer stickers.

As for this one, its one of those really thin keyboard covers for like $5-8. Pressing down on keys is only a little harder and you definitely feel a different texture. Its something you can get used to but it won't ever beat using the mac without a cover.

Lots of people say this is true for the highest rated moshi keyboard cover.

u/BakedSocks · 2 pointsr/Dell

I just ordered this one, and it should be coming in tomorrow. I'll check back in when I get it and let you know how it fits and feels. My dog sheds all year round and got tons of fur under the keys of my last laptop. Hoping to keep this one clean.

You can always get a normal one and get some rubber dampers and put them under the keycaps

If not that, you want a keyboard with Cherry MX Brown switches like this one

u/rpearce3 · 1 pointr/Corsair

O-rings will have a very minimal impact on the brightness of the lighting. If you're really worried about it use clear rings:

you could also buy o-rings to help dampening the bottom out sound

u/iamapizza · 2 pointsr/MEOW_IRL

I think it's one of these silicone keyboard protectors, possibly it's to protect the laptop from cat hair.

u/Apocrathia · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

How many people are using O-Rings?

I've had a MX Green board for years, and I love it. The springs are heavy af, it's like a mini workout. It was on my desk at home, but moved to my office as a noisy instrument of office warfare when I had a truly annoying coworker I wanted to drown out. The guy I work with now is great, so I just installed these o-rings to dampen the sound some and not be as annoying with my coding and clacking. They're... different. How do you guys feel about them?

u/articleofpeace · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I have this. I was looking for a slip on case like this to fit my keyboard in the UK, but can't find any. Any suggestions?

u/DodiGharib · 1 pointr/applehelp

Get yourself one of these, they're very thin and won't disrupt air flow or anything like that.

u/zostixj · 3 pointsr/applehelp

Also note that the Apple store will not do this for you (at least they wouldn't when I worked there).

You could do something like this and just switch the keyboard in system settings.

u/Druah · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you're fine with sacrificing feel, o-rings should be decent. However, if you dislike the mushy feel of o-rings I'd suggest soldering in new switches, or even lubing the Reser™ green switches (it'll get rid of the click lol). If you decide to lube your switches, but don't have time to de-solder, you can just "lazy lube" them by dripping some lube through the switch housing. (Although I don't recommend this.)

O-Rings: https://www.amazon.com/ThreeBulls-120Pcs-Dampeners-Keyboards-Dampers/dp/B01N75JL0F

Lube: Anything thick like Krytox GPL 105

u/KingKai7989 · 1 pointr/keyboards

O-rings, put them on the keycaps and it will make the noise stop. You can keep the keybaord you are already more or less satisfied with and not have to worry about the noise, also its much cheaper than buying a new keyboard.

u/RouletteZoku · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

You can pick up some orings as well to add to your keyboard to soften the noise for when they inevitably do bottom out from pressing too hard.

I've bought two packs of these. Using them on a k70 lux with brown switches and a masterkeys pro s with blue switches.

u/EggRollMa · 1 pointr/razer

O-rings are going to quiet it down some, but if you still find it a little too loud, you could try 0.4 reduction o-rings, but after that i think you should stick with a membrane.

Purchase this keyboard cover:

and also buy a screen protector to minimize any potential damage the screen could get hurt from. I've been using the keyboard cover with a screen protector for awhile now and it's completely fine. AFAIK the whole advice with not buying a keyboard cover for the new butterfly keyboards is a bunch of paranoia. The maximum damage a flimsy piece of rubber can do to your glass screen is cause some temporary visible cosmetic damage that can be wiped away by a cloth.
