CPU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07STGGQ18/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The Ryzen 5 3600 is all you really need. I doesn't require any overclocking to be a powerful and capable CPU. The stock cooler will work fine with this processor. It'll handle moderate workstation and 1080p-2160p gaming just fine.

GPU: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-challenger-d-8g-oc/p/N82E16814930020?Description=5700&cm_re=5700-_-14-930-020-_-Product

Damn, the RX 5700 from Pulse was in stock yesterday and it's now already out of stock. The ASRock Challenger D model is the best I could think of now, as the Mech OC is the basically the same as the Ventus OC, which also runs pretty hot. If you want to wait for a better model, you can, but no guarantees that it'll be in stock soon. If you want slightly better thermals over better performance, this 2060 Super can also be considered: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-RTX-2060-Super/dp/B07V1Q4L2Z/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=2060+super&qid=1568248713&sr=8-11.

RAM: https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331285?Item=N82E16820331285

The T-Force Delta is actually one of the better under $80 16GB kits out there. It features good RGB as well as a decent build quality. It's definitely worth a try as many people seem to like it.

SSD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LGF54XR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A29Y8OP2GPR7PE&psc=1

The Sabrent Rocket seems to be one of the SSD market leaders in price to performance. This is probably the best performing SSDs you'll find that is under the $120 price tag. I think 1TB is enough for games and a good number of files, but you can always add a Seagate 2TB Hard Drive for more storage.

MOBO: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144262?Item=N82E16813144262

This is a very decent X570 motherboard at an awesome price. It has many 5 star reviews on many different retailer websites. This motherboard also supports OC, PCIe 4.0, and Mystic Light RGB Sync. Overall, just another great motherboard from MSI. Works with the 3600 out of the box.

PSU: https://www.newegg.com/evga-600-bq-110-bq-0600-k1-600w/p/N82E16817438100?Item=N82E16817438100

This power supply should be enough, as the power draw of the GPU+CPU are around 300 watts combined. This leaves a comfortable 300W for other components and possible overclocking. This is also semi-modular and 80+ bronze rated, which will have decent cable management and power efficiency. There is also a $15 rebate on this product, as well as a 3 year warranty.

CASE: https://www.newegg.com/black-phanteks-eclipse-p300-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811854068?Item=N82E16811854068

The Phanteks P300 is probably one of the best $60 PC case out there, tied with the View 31, in my opinion. It has a lot of room to build in (supports some E-ATX boards) as well as above-average airflow. Overall, it is one of my top picks in lower-mid-range cases.

FANS: https://www.newegg.com/corsair-co-9050082-ww-case-fan/p/N82E16835181157?Item=N82E16835181157

The Phanteks P300 doesn't include a lot of fans, and you'll need some fans to improve the airflow due to possibly having a warm GPU. The AF120s should get the job done at a good price.

Monitor Recommendation: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GD7H18F/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Take a look at this monitor. It features FreeSync, a Curved Display, and a 144Hz Refresh Rate. This monitor will be able to take advantage of your PC's power (not like one of my friend, who has a 60hz monitor paired with an RTX 2070), while not using a lot of your budget. The C24G1 is built with a VA panel, which allows it to have better color contrast than TN panels, while not sacrificing response times. As a bonus, AOC also has a 3-Year "No Dead Pixels" warranty in case of a defect.

Everything should total up to around $1275 before all taxes and promotions. This build includes a mixture of components from Amazon and Newegg's website. If you already have a G-Sync monitor, then spend $90 extra and get a RTX 2070 Super from Amazon to take full advantage of that.

u/youre_my_golden_girl · 1 pointr/Monitors

I wrote this up on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/AOC-AG241QX-2560x1440-Adjustable-DisplayPort/dp/B01NCTHS6E/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=aoc+agon+24&qid=1563386331&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Version:

I got the 24" G-SYNC Capable version.

Current usage as of this writing:

50+ hours.

Summary:

Overall, this monitor is solid. Especially at the sale price I got for $230... I freaking love this thing. I'd even recommend buying it for $300 if you see it around that price. Anything above $350, I'd maybe look at other options, but it will cost you *at least* $400 for these same specs, but you may have better quality control (light bleed). Yet, it still hard to really deny this great monitor for the price under $350. This takes me to my pros and cons.

PROS:

- I didn't think 1440p would be that great on a 24" as it seemed it wasn't as necessary as for a 27". But I was very wrong there. The pixel density is actually SUPER nice to have.

- For color and viewing angle, as most TN panels, especially at this refresh rate of 144hz and response rate of 1ms, the color is okay. Obviously a professional graphic designer isn't going to pick a monitor like this because it's not relevant to their needs -- like at all. But for gaming it's great. Especially with some calibration (just Google "AG241QX calibration") and it was a lot better. It's pretty vibrant and the shadows/black parts are dark.

- I actually really like the headphone mount they have too.

- I don't use the switch it comes with, but it could be handy based on your setup or wanting to change calibration on the fly without using the monitor buttons. It is a cool add-on that I could see some people wanting to use.

- They have 2 (I think) USB 3.0 ports as well. This I could see being useful if you want to plug in something quick. All the ports are really accessible. I have my main Windows PC, 2012 Mac Mini, and 2018 Macbook Pro all plugged into this thing running 1440p.

- Fully adjustable. That's it. Great movement. I'd say that it would be nice if it move left to right a little more, but that's just me being really picky. It has pretty good movement and I'd probably never want anything more than what it is but just want to point that out.

- It has speakers? I guess? I don't know. Why do you want this in any monitor? Yet, they're there. Go for it, I guess.

CONS:

- The only downside like others are saying is the light bleed (and it's not even that bad). I'd say there is a gamble, you may or may not have it but I do and it's *really* not that bad. There is a one streak where the LED is shining through in the top right corner, but if the monitor is showing any bit of output from the monitor that isn't just initial black screen, it's unnoticeable. I would disregard other reviews saying "it's unusable" but like I said earlier it could be a gamble. In any case, Amazon is really good with returns and I'm sure you could get it replaced pretty easily.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading and hope this helps.

I also want to state I am not getting paid for this review.

Not sure what the final price would be but ...

Currently, I'm on Acer Predator 1440p 144 Hz TN panel and it's butter smooth with ingame fps going around 80-90 fps in densely populated areas and 160+ fps in normal average flights.

Now ... there is a lot of stuff that you can take into conderations when building your own PC from a Case what case you want and how much airflow it's gonna have to what components you're gonna be running with especially coolers and fans how many you can put in your case and how big the fans you want.

Personally I can list the components that I'm using on my build and you can take it as is and compare to what you think suits you.

My rig:

  • MONITOR: - Acer Predator 1440p 144 Hz TN pannel
  • CASE: FRACTAL DESIGN Meshify S2 Black - Dark TG
  • RAM: - FlareX 3200 Mhz CL14 XMP profile running no issues ( 32 gigs )
  • CPU: - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • CPU Cooler: - CORSAIR H110i Watercool close loop
  • GPU: - STRIX 1080 (Currently clock speed is staying at 2000 Mhz but can go higher just to lazy)
  • Motherboard: - X370 Taichi (Yes I bought this board 2 years ago with my first amd 1600X processor)
  • Power Suply: - CORSAIR HX 1000W 80+ Platinum
  • M.2 Storage: - SAMSUNG 970 Pro 512 gigs (M.2)
  • SSD Storage: SAMSUNG 860 EVO Basic 512 gigs ( SATA ) | SAMSUNG 850 EVO Basic 256 gigs (SATA)
  • HDD Storage: - WESTERN DIGITAL Black, 3.5 (4 TB)
  • Fans: - ARCTIC P14 PWM (140 mm 1700 rpm static)

I've upgraded my system maybe a month ago with new components and new Ryzen CPU and man it kicks ass.
Some components like GPU, Motherboard, RAM I did not change for 2 years cause they still working and I would see no real benefit from upgrading them compared to how much money I would dish out.

For example ... Motherboard X370 Taichi I know I bought a good motherboard when I was buying my first gen AMD build and I sorta hoped they would keep their promiss of being backward compatible and AMD totally did.

Upgraded my bios and no problems what so ever and Honestly this mobo has awesome VRM (14 phase power distro) combined with quality chokes. I've overclocked my old 1600X to 4+ Gigs for 2 years straight and now don't even bother upgrading the 3700X cause there's just no need the standard PB handles everything boosting your single cores when gaming and using only a few cores and handling the voltage by lowering the load when all cores are under load cause you can have higher voltage when boosting only a couple of cores (1.4 -1.5v) compared to voltage when all cores are under load (1.3v).

I'd guess my only tip when it comes to motherboards would be to actually look up what kind of RAM trace scheme they're using. You generally see 2 used ... one called "Daisy chaining" and other called "T topology"

Daisy Channing - This is a way of laying down traces on the PBC itself so it connects one DIM slot of ram to the other and this way of doing things is beneficial when you don't have all DIM slots of RAM fitted (For example you're using dual-channel 2x8 Gigs ram sticks) and you have 4 slots.

T Topology - On the other hand this way of laying down traces on the PCB connects DIM slots in such a way that it benefits if you have all of your DIM slots filled with ram sticks like 2x dual-channel 2x8 gig ram sticks that would total to 32 Gigs.

Now, this just means that if you're using proper configuration as the motherboard was made it's gonna give you more stability and clock speed when you try to push for higher clock speeds and tighter timings, so if you're gonna get decked out ram DIM slots check for what type of motherboard you're getting for example my mobo is a T-topology mobo while it's usually more popular to daisy chain them cause most people don't fully utilize all dim slots of the motherboard since you don't really need 32 gigs of ram unless you're playing something like DCS or like that.

    Ok, now about RAM ...
It is true that Ryzen CPU's love fast memory since its faster memory means faster interconnect between infinity fabric and ram due to how they're tied together via fclock coupling mode.

Steve and buds from Gamers Nexus made an awesome video about this Check it out here if you're interested

But basic TL;DR is that it's best to get 3200 Mhz low latency CL14 sticks with XMP profiles setup and you won't have to mess with timings or any manual overclocking (if you can get them)

As for temperatures during very hot summer like we're having right now with ambient temps going around 32-34 degrees when it feels like 38-40 my temps are the following:

  • GPU: Max temp during load and long gaming sessions is about 56 - 58 degrees
  • CPU: Idle around 30 - 36 degrees, during games around 45 - 50 degrees and at lengthy stress test 66 degrees

I have around 3x140mm fans setup as intake from the front as well as one on the bottom on the case as intake and I have my radiator mounted to the top exhausting heat (cause heat gues up so assisting nature is the best way of doing things) and one fan at the back also 140m exhausting heat at the back.

    It's a pretty good setup.

BenQ PG2401PT - a bit over your budget bracket, but I think I would go for it personally if I could afford it. Reason for it being the 10bit panel (my new favorite). However, as with everything it has its drawbacks and for that monitor it's the size, only 24inches.

The PG monitor features a 10-bit IPS panel that uses a 14-bit 3D Look Up Table (LUT) to guarantee silky smooth color gradation on any image. The 10-bit panel can create more than one billion colors--64 times the amount of color available on an 8-bit panel, and with 14-bit processing capability, generates crisper definition and improved gray-level distinction. The 14-bit 3D Look Up Table (LUT), monitors improves RGB color blending accuracy, resulting in impeccable color and gray tone reproduction. Rated to 350 cd/m2 brightness, the monitor’s Brightness Uniformity Function enables PG series monitors to certify a consistent image across the entire display.

ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch - Almost 600 reviews and still sitting at 4.5/5 stars. Pretty lucky for you as the price on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com is almost the same, but the UK one is priced as £ (£465) instead of $($469). People who own it state its a good multi-purpose monitor. So even though it is a PLS monitor it should be fine.

ASUS PB287Q 28-Inch 4K - 4K version of the above monitor. 100 reviews, 4/5 stars.

Samsung 28-Inch 4K LED Monitor (U28D590D) - pretty decent looking monitor, but has mixed reviews so could be a gamble.

That's roughly it for now. Here's a pretty nice IPS monitor list with USD prices and some helpful notes. I got a few more monitors noted down, but they are gaming monitors with 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, G-sync etc.

I think it's worth checking out NEC monitors, which seem to be mega expensive, but offer amazing specs. As to Korean brands, I haven't looked around, have you found any good looking ones with decent specs?

As it stands the BenQ BL2710PT or Asus PB278Q are best choice for you, both 27 inch and 1440p. Also, since you aren't gaming then maybe have a look at 4K monitors? Obviously 4K requires a bit more powerful pc.

u/RedZaturn · 1 pointr/FortniteCompetitive

Unfortunatley a console just isn't a competitvle platform for tons of reasons. If you want to actually get into competitive Fortnite, I wrote a guide on how to get into PC gaming for as cheap as possible with new hardware.

INTRODUCTION

You are probably wondering what qualifies me to hold these opinions on this topic. Well, I have been gaming on PC for nearly a decade since I started playing minecraft alpha on a potato HP laptop in the 6th grade. I built my first PC in the 8th grade, and since then I have helped build over a dozen systems for friends an family members and friends of family members and family members of friends. Building PCs is one of my favorite things to do, and I am always looking to help more people to make the switch in a cost effective manner.

First off, here is some gameplay from a 1050ti and an i5 7400. These components are more than adequate to surpass 144fps at stretched res and low settings. His whole channel has game play vids of his hardware running popular pc games, and the 1050ti is a little powerhouse for its size. This PC can do much more than run fortnite. It is perfect for competitive CSGO too. Really, this pc will have no problems running competitive shooters and MOBAS at 144fps, and RPGs at 60fps.

While this pc might not be the fastest pc out there, the important part is that it is leagues better than a console. If not for the simple fact that you can turn off shadows and play stretched res, never mind that it averages 144 fps.

.

.

THE BUILD

.

.

Here is the pc part picker list. The 8100 i3 is 11% faster than the 7400 i5 in that video. If you are worried about actually building a PC, don't be. I built my first rig when I was in the 8th grade, and it took less than an hour and booted first time. This video is a great tutorial. Even though the components they are using are different, PC hardware is standardized and the build process is the exact same.

I would get that PC and worry about peripherials later, assuming you already have a computer monitor of some kind at home along with a shitty mouse and keyboard. And if you already game with headphones on your console, there are adapters you can use to plug your console headset into your pc.

.

.

WHAT TO GET NEXT

.

.

Everything after this point is non critical, but will make your experience so much better. I put them in order of importance to your game play experience.

MONITOR

The next purchase you should make after that is this AOC 144hz gsync compatible monitor. Its a great panel, and the gsync works great for eliminating micro stutter and screen tearing. "But /u/RedZaturn, why would you get 144hz when 240hz is a thing!?!?!?" Well timmy, a good 240hz adaptive sync monitor costs almost as much as this entire PC. And whats the point of spending $400 on a monitor that you PC can't even come close to properly utilizing? A build that can properly run fortnite at 240hz is gonna cost closer to $1000, and add in a $400 monitor and the price gets steep quick. Just get a 144hz monitor and stop worrying about it.

**MOUSE AND PAD*

After that, get a good mouse with a decent sensor. Optical mice are generally better than laser mice. The m65 is a good FPS style mouse and your scroll wheel click, scroll up, scroll down, thumb forward, and thumb backward are all assignable.A large mouse pad that takes up your entire desk is also a good thing to get. When playing shooters, you want your DPI to be much less sensitive than what your average non gamer has their mouse set to. This allows you to be much more accurate, and the lower your sens the more room you need to move your mouse.

MECHANICAL KEEB

After that, Get a mechanical keyboard with the switch of your choice. I prefer reds. Cherry MX switches are the most trusted out there, but any mechanical switch will be better than a membrane keyboard.

OPENING THE SAILS TO ACQUIRE A COPY OF WINDOWS

If you have an old windows pc lying around you can use the key off of the sticker on the case to activate pirated windows. If the activate windows watermark doesn't bother you, there is no point worrying about buying a legitimate copy.

.

.

CONCLUSION**

.

.

Basically, building a PC isn't a sprint. You don't have to buy all the top end gear to have a better experience than what you get on a console. Streamers like ninja and tfue have their crazy powerful systems because they make crazy amounts of money. But it is completely overkill for what they play. And upgrading components slowly over time is how I did it almost a decade ago. I stuffed a GPU into my super old and slow PC just to get 60fps in counter strike source. Played on a shitty mouse and keyboard that my school threw out and I snagged from the trash. Used an old plasma vga monitor from a PC my dad bought in 2003 that looked absolutely horrible. And I loved every second of it. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments!

Hello!

So I did some checking around for retailers in Brazil. PCPartPicker doesn't have store prices built into it currently, and the retailers that I could find had higher prices than purchasing from Newegg Global. I'm not certain how/if you will be able to purchase through Newegg Global or Amazon, but the parts and prices are from those retailers. Maybe you can save on combined shipping.

The pc built here is budget in parts, but not in performance. This pc will play almost all current games at Ultra settings in 1080p. It has an NVIDIA turing gpu that can also be used for streaming. The gpu also has cuda cores for using blender. The cpu is both a gaming and workstation powerhouse. Note this benchmark is the 3600x not the 3600 (extremely similar performance).

cpu: ryzen 5 3600, one of the best value cpus on the market. Here is the passmark.

cpu cooler: stock cooler is fine

thermal paste: I suggest this for all ryzen 3000 builds even though the included air cooler has a stock paste applied. (requires removing the stock paste with alcohol) This ensures the best thermal conductivity. This is very important because of how the new chips are designed.

memory: a budget option of ddr4 3000mhz 16Gb of ram, for another $20 can upgrade to ddr4 3600mhz 16 latency memory (ryzen 3000 series processors benefit from faster memory, and will gain about a 3% performance boost in both gaming and other workloads, this was the only performance downgrade in the build)

storage: 500Gb m.2 ssd, middle of the pack speed, goes on sale often, 5-year warranty, a budget downgrade from 1Tb of storage for another $40

motherboard: a very budget motherboard, but should be fine for completing the build. It's a MAX version meaning it's ryzen 3000 compatible out of the box.

videocard: as explained above, the 1660 ti. here are the benchmarks compared with some other videocards when using the ryzen 5 3600. this is the average framerate across 40 games. If you needed to save some money, maybe could shop for a used 1660 ti or go with a 1660. The 1660 doesn't have NEW NVENC for streaming games, and it's also slightly worse gaming performance (still very good for the cost).

case: a budget mid-tower case, it's totally fine, it's larger than it looks, it has 3 pre-installed fans, doesn't look half bad

power supply: a budget power supply, still great value for money, 500 watts is totally fine for this build as both the 1660 ti and the ryzen 5 3600 are extremely power efficient

Monitor: I custom added this part, it wasn't on PCPartPicker. It's a 24inch, IPS (great color depth), Flat panel (I don't like curved at this screen size), 144hz, 1ms response time panel. At $180 it is more expensive than the $140 curved VA panel from AOC.

That's about it! I didn't want to go with a ryzen 5 2600 because it would downgrade both the gaming performance and the multi-threaded performance. The ryzen 7 2700 is also a significant gaming downgrade, but is fine for multi-threaded (still too expensive currently). Let me know if you have any questions!
u/BiscuitInFlight · 2 pointsr/buildapc

No problem! I'd rather leave people with information instead of vague statements that leave them knowing what to do, but not WHY to do it haha. What's your budget for a monitor looking like? Because you can get a budget-minded 1080p screen like this that has amazing rgb color space accuracy/range at 99%. OR you can spend extra for the 4k and get something like this beast. Each one is great for design in their own rights but, of course, they're on different ends of the spectrum price-wise. It's all up to you, and your wallet! Honestly, if I were gaming on this rig, I'd probably get the budget monitor and put in a couple hundred for a decent gaming monitor as well! The 4k display is amazing if you're doing design, but the 6ms response time is less-than-optimal for competitive gaming. But if you aren't playing pvp-oriented games, you'd be absolutely fine!

Fractal design is well known for their compact and quiet designs, but if you just need something quiet with good airflow, and you've got the budget, I'd recommend getting something like the Be Quiet! Silent Base 800. BQ is one of the leading makers when it comes to insulated cases with amazing airflow and cooling capabilities. Only downside is, usually their cases aren't light at all haha. But as long as you aren't relying TOO much on mobility, they're a great pick!

u/Nagorak · 2 pointsr/Amd

Why are you looking at those particular monitors? Personally, I'm not sure either is a really good choice. First of all, 1080P at 27 inches has fairly low pixel density. It's not unusable, and I've had a 1080P monitor in that size before, but overall 1440P is generally recommended for that size. Text will be much sharper on a 24 inch 1080P monitor, or a 27inch 1440P monitor.

But even if you're looking at 1080P. I'd suggest something like an AOC C24G1 (or AOC C27G1 if you really want 27 inches). Those monitors cost less than the 144 Hz Asus, are both still 144 Hz/Freesync compatible, and they are VA panels so their contrast ratio is significantly better than those Asus panels. Higher contrast results in significantly better image quality, which is worth the trade-offs, in my opinion. VA does means somewhat slower response time, but they are still pretty good, and I'd gladly give up a small amount of response time for deeper blacks.

AOC C24G1/C27G1: https://www.amazon.ca/AOC-C24G1-Frameless-DisplayPort-Adjustable/dp/B07GD7H18F/

You're welcome to get whatever you want, but I think the AOC C24G1 is basically one of the best bang/buck monitors on the market right now, and by being only 24 inches you get better pixel density for a 1080P display. I'd certainly also take the C27G1 over either of those Asus monitors.

Here's a review of the C24G1: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-c24g1/

The PCmonitors.info site offers some pretty thorough reviews, in case you want to consider any of the other models that they've reviewed.

Regarding 144 Hz. I would pay up for 144 Hz. Either that or go up to 1440P. Don't get a 1080P 75 Hz monitor in 2019, IMO. A lot of people saying 75 Hz is OK probably haven't actually experienced the smoothness of 144 Hz. Plus, with adaptive sync, you can still run at less than the full panel refresh rate without issue. Assuming you're planning on keeping this monitor for 5-10 years, you're better off either getting more resolution or higher refresh rate.

Anyway, those are my two cents. Take them for what you will.

There was a post I made few months back, see if it helps. Here are a couple of options :

  • Samsung LC27JG54 - Sells around 20~22K during sales. 1440p, VA panel, curve, 144Hz, 95% sRGB, 300 nits brightness, min 4ms RT. Really great monitor for all games, media and I'm not sure about competitive shooters.
  • AOC C24G1 - Seen it for 17k during sale. 1080p, VA panel, curve, 144Hz, 99%sRGB, 250 nits brightness, avg 4ms RT. One of the better monitors where content looks great to view and is under 20K.
  • Samsung LC24FG73 - 1080p, VA panel, curve, 144Hz, 125% sRGB, 350 nits brightness, quantum dot, avg 8ms RT. Also one of the better monitors under 20K. The picture quality is really good but I have heard few issues related to purple artifacts and response time. It was present in the older model LC24FG70. From my usage never found such problems.

These are good monitors for excellent picture quality, blacks, response times. The TN panels are perfect for shooters and casual users. IPS has the best colors but it's difficult to find one which supports higher refresh rate and good response time under 20K. If your okay with 60Hz, 1080p and want brilliant colors. Check out LG 24MP88HV.

Happy Diwali to u as well.

For posterity:

I ended up going with an ultrawide, despite the lack of service on the past of some content distributors. Specifically, the LG 29UM68 29-inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor.

Since the LG 25UM58-P 25-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor was already at my place, I had an emotional reaction to the styling, menu system and single joystick control on the middle of the underside of the monitor, and didn’t really want to go for another manufacturer. I had to counter this bias with a ton of research, and ended up going to Fry’s and Best Buy to check out monitors in person.

It was at this point I realized I could get the LG 29” 29UM68 for $250 at Fry’s, or price match at Best Buy, and there was no 27” panel that came close to what I wanted. So I brought home the 29UM60 (they didn’t have the 68, which has 2 HDMI/1DP ports, as opposed to the 60 which has 1HDMI/1DP), but I knew I’d be testing it and returning it for a *68 online at the same price.

Once I had the 29” widescreen at home, I realized it was exactly what I wanted and for the right price, and so I found a deal at MicroCenter (still available) and Amazon (although that one ended today, sadly) for the 29UM68 at $250, and will be returning the 29UM60 I got at Best Buy.

The personal drawbacks, which are all acceptable to me, include imperfect blacks when watching movies. This is due in part to the inherent qualities of IPS panels including factors like light bleeding, although it is minimal on the 29UM60 and your brain almost immediately ignores it, unless you’re color correcting, etc. (go brain). Will try to test the 29UM60 and the 29UM68 side by side when the 68 arrives. I’ve also heard from an unreliable source that the 68 is am updated version of the 67 that has improved backlight bleed. I can not confirm this at this time, but hey, information. Also, the older 67 is supposed to have 8 bit native color, as opposed to the 68’s 6bit+FRC, but I have not jumped into research on this at all. There is also apparently a 69 version that appears on the Newegg site, which is an updated 67 (as the 29UM68 is the next model of the 29UM58, I postulate), but I have not begun research on the 69 either.

In terms of personal usage. I’ve realized I can live my life finding workarounds to window-boxing (which is black bars around all sides) on services like Netflix, Amazon Prime video, etc, until these services catch up to service Ultrawide users. Also, pillar-boxing (black bars on the sides, E.g. watching a TV show on your ultrawide monitor) is totally fine, and I, at least, adjusted to it as normal very quickly.

Finally, 2560x1080 is a great resolution. I’m powering it with the super budget rig above, and can play story-focused games on it like the The Witcher 3, with cinematic immersion. To be fair, this won’t work for many gamers, especially those who have seen the light of 144hz. Also the resolution is close to the DPI of 1920x1080 on a 24” monitor, which I find comfortable and have enjoyed for the past 6 years.

Conclusion

Coming from a filmmaker, it’s almost a philosophical alignment with widescreen 21:9 as normal/native, over TV’s 16:9 as normal/native, that truly motivated my decision as much as the crazy $250 deal.

Aspect Ratio P.S.

Technically the screen resolution is not 21:9, it’s 64:27 (or 2.370:1). Link goes to wiki article as a jump off point, if you want to learn more about the technical aspects and history of aspect ratios.

It's been a very productive week but man, I'm exhausted!

The fun news first. I got my hands on a 144hz gaming monitor. I've never seen a 144hz display before and yeah, once you know what you've been missing out on, it's gonna's be hard to go back. It's buttery smooth, and makes me feel like a champion. Maybe I'll get a chance to actually break it in this weekend.

Attention WoW nerds! Classic got its release date this week, August 27th! It's not quite the "Summer of Classic" they sold to us, but soon my gaming PC will become a dedicated WoW machine. I might die one day, but philosophers will ask how one dies that has no life when that moment comes.

... I'll be rolling a Gnome Mage.

I successfully navigated Baptist church government this week. As I've said before, I've taken over my Church's Sunday morning streaming project. We've made some progress since that initial rant, namely we've gotten an XLR-interface running and vastly improved the sound quality by using some spare condenser mics. But now, oh boy, we're gonna live the dream.

My first meeting was in my new position on our tech budget council. We needed a dedicated streaming computer for the project, and I struck paydirt. One of the council members just happened to have a spare 6-year-old autocad desktop with vastly higher specs than our stream needs and reasonable room for expansion. The computer will be able to support at least a second camera, which will help improve the visual variety on the stream.

The second meeting was with my pastor, church administrator and members of the property team. I have secured funding for, and purchased sound baffling (7lb moving blankets with wall hooks) and lighting (2x box light) for the stream.

We're still in the setup/training phase, but soon I'll be fully up-and-running. We're hoping to do a big promotions push in the Fall and it should be interesting!

OK, here are a few choices. You generally want to be looking at Freesync monitors, not G-sync, in this price range due to the G-sync price premium.

AOC Agon AG241QX

This is a 24" TN panel, so it's going to have a very high pixel density, but obviously it's a relatively small monitor. Since it's a TN panel, that means the response time will be very fast, so it could be a good choice if the sort of games you like to play include competitive shooters, RTS games, Rocket League, that sort of thing where precision timing and fast motion is really important. However, TN panels also usually have relatively poor colors compared to other types of monitors.

The AG241QX is also a G-sync Compatible certified monitor. That means everything should just work out of the box with an RTX 2070S (outside of needing to possibly enable G-sync in the Nvidia control panel).

If you want a bigger monitor, you could look at this:

Viotek GN27D

This is a 27" curved VA panel. VA panels have much better colors than TN, generally, but have lower response times, which can lead to some ghosting in very fast-paced games. This one, however, seems to have pretty good response times. I actually have this monitor and I haven't noticed any ghosting. That said, I generally do not play fast-paced shooters like CS:GO, I'm more of a single-player RPG type of gamer.

Also, this is a non-validated Freesync monitor - that is to say, Nvidia has not tested it and confirm that everything works perfectly with Nvidia cards. Freesync works with Nvidia cards on all Freesync monitors, but with non-validated monitors you may encounter issues.

In particular, I have discovered that Freesync does not always work on this monitor with my graphics card (GTX 1080) if my other display is plugged in. I never use both displays at the same time (they aren't even pointed in the same direction) so this isn't a big deal for me - I can just unplug the other display when I want to play a game - but it might be a big deal for you if you are hoping to game while also having something else available for you to look at on another monitor. However, if you are planning to use it with a single-monitor setup, I can confirm that it works great.

Hardware Unboxed has a lot of good monitor reviews and overviews for you to look at if you want to see more.

u/LBGW_experiment · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Well, you have a few options. Depending on your price range, you can go with 2560x1080 which come in 25" (don't bother), 29" (sweet spot for ppi, same as 24"/25" 16:9 monitors), 34", or 35" (specifically the z35 for g-sync or xz35 for freesync). Benefit of 2560x1080 is being able to generally saturate the max refresh rate of your monitor, given the gpu you have and are going to buy. Only downside I can think of is with making such a long-term purchase as a monitor, you're "only" getting 1080p, but I don't really see that as an issue as others might. Also, most of these monitors only go up to 75hz, only the very high end cards reach any higher, and those are usually either g-sync for the acer x34 which goes to 100hz @ 1440p or the acer (x)z35 which goes to I think 144hz @ 1080p.

There are also 3440x1440 monitors and those usually only come in 34". I can't think of any other sizes, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, do you want curved or not? I don't have an ultrawide but I've been researching them for a couple years now and I think it comes down to the size of the monitor. I think 25" and 29" ultrawides are fine for being flat, since they're only so wide but once you get into 34" territory, it would be such a large screen that it is beneficial to have the curve, which is pretty much what the market really offers: no curved 25" or 29" and most, if not all, 34" are curved. The curve helps keep the same distance from each edge of the screen to your eyes the same. These do come at a higher price, though.

Prices for each respective size

u/oijlklll · 0 pointsr/buildapcsales

Yeah I mean it can be worth it but it's all preference. I actually tried a 27" 1440p and found it was just too big for me but it could be good for you. My LoL performance actually improved going back to 24" (finally made gold yay). Another great option would be a 144Hz 1080p monitor. Your card would really be able to use that to its full potential and 144Hz makes for a great experience.

This is a pretty good one and on sale for a very good discount. Just fyi it will have slightly worse colors than an IPS model though. This is the one I have, got it on sale for $220 and I am very pleased with it.

By the way everything I linked is a 23-24" monitor. If you need recommendations for 1440p monitors I can recommend some as well.

u/Warskull · 1 pointr/SiegeAcademy

First off, before you even think about investing in a 144Hz monitor, can your GPU give you the framerate you want in this game?

Beyond that, monitor technology is to the point where everything is pretty good. The more expensive ones support things like HDR or are ultrawides.

You have three panel techs, TN, VA, and IPS. TN is the older tech, it is cheaper to make and tends to have better response times. IPS has superior color and viewing angle, but the response times and refresh rates suffer as a result. VA panels are in the middle. You can still get excellent response times on VA and IPS monitors, but they will be a lot more expensive as a result.

Viewsonic and Acer makes some really good 1080p 144Hz monitors. They offer great budget TN panels. You can get 24 inches 1080p for about $200.

Viewsonic is probably the best budget option.

Samsung has some VA panel for a bit more. You'll get a nicer image.

If you have a good graphics card and are ok with spending a bit more Acer has a good 1440p monitor.

If you start going into higher end tech like HDR the prices start to go way up.

u/ImpossibleWarden · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you're comfortable with going refurbished, this (ignore the picture, just look up the model number) seems like a pretty good deal. It's 1080p 75 Hz for $100 and it's around the size that you wanted too.

If you can go a little smaller to 22 inches, this is 1080p 60 Hz for the same price, but it's IPS, so it'll look much better. I personally am using a monitor similar to that from AOC, and it's absolutely amazing for its price, especially since I managed to OC mine to 75 Hz.

The one you linked is pretty good value as well, so any of these options should be good. I don't think it's possible to find a good high quality 24 inch monitor new under $100-120 though, so if that's something you really want, going refurbished is pretty much the only choice.

u/MongooseCrusader · 1 pointr/buildapc
If she wants image quality for her monitor than she should get an IPS by Dell, like the UP2516D. It's got an IPS panel, 2560x1440 at 25 inches and fantastic color calibration. Artists and those who want great color calibration love it. Movies and shows will look great on it too.

Yes, it's $500 but unless you're willing to drop down to $260 for the U2415 (which is what I have btw) which is 24.1 inches and 1920x1200, you're going to get an inferior display with $300 at 2560x1440. Most likely a TN panel.

Decent 2560x1440 IPS display still arn't cheap. Maybe in a couple more years.

So put aside $500 just for the monitor and you're still left with $900 for the PC, which is easily doable.

The i3 is a little beast (I have it and I use it for gaming!) and she doesn't need 16GB of memory or a m.2 SSD either.

But that monitor will last her years. It's beautiful and 2560x1440. =)

Nice build.

I would change the m.2 ssd though, the evo series are a bit overpriced imo but you pay for its great performance.

EDIT: You could also save a few 100 bucks by changing your 2080Ti with the EVGA variant, I can guarantee you you could get away with 1-2 frames by spending less on the EVGA one. With that money you saved, you could buy a 1-2TB HDD (since you'll be storing VFX projects/games, etc) or maybe an SSD of your choice.

Other than that it's a great build.

This monitor from Dell I found could be the best valued 1440p 144hz monitor out there. But if you want to go a bit cheaper and go 1080p, this could be your go-to monitor.

Hope I helped!

u/The---Technician · 2 pointsr/suggestapc

with that budget, I recommend you aim for a PC with the GTX 1080 graphics card which is more powerful. This iBUYPOWER AM003i Gaming Desktop PC would be ideal for you..It has the powerful Intel i7-7700 3.60Ghz processor along with an awesome NVIDIA GTX 1080 8GB graphics card, 16GB DDR4 RAM, a 2TB HDD plus a fast 240GB SSD... With this system, you should be able to max out any of today's games and with it's liquid cooling system, you will never have to worry about heat.

As it relates to monitors, 24 inches is usually fine and popular.. 27 though is great as well especially for gamers who love the extra size for their display. With the remainder of your budget, this LG 24UD58-B 24-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor would complete the job for you. It has a decent response time, beautiful images and it's IPS technology allows you to see images on screen clearly from very wide angles- this makes it perfect for multi-players .

It's nice you finally got to try SWTOR, it's great game with ton of content nowadays. I still remember fondly the times I used to travel across all of those different planet's and battle teammates in 8v8 competitive pvp.

I will just point out somethings Regarding purchase of a laptop for PC gaming, it's great if you travel a lot.

If you just plan to game at home, I would recommend returning it and just building yourself a desktop. It's really easy, affordable actually and you will have more options if you desire to improve the performance later on. With a laptop you are stuck to what you got and cannot upgrade, you will need to buy brand new one when performance will not be enough on other games down the line.

I looked up that model. You can get it for 675 USD or so, and it's only got mobile GTX 1050 4GB, 4 core 8 threads CPU.For lower price you can get way better Desktop PC, albeit you would need to get a Monitor (which would be of course offer better experience that the built in one from MSI anyway).

You will get a 6 core 12 threads CPU, that also has 4% better SC performance. A RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB, which is 110% faster. All games will be able to run High settings without any issues. But mainly possibility to upgrade down the line, instead of purchasing whole new setup.

Regarding monitors I will post 2 links, first would be for 60hz 1080p 24'' IPS monitor at around 90$ and other will be for +120hz 1080p 24'' IPS/VA monitor at around 180$. You have the option, both choices are probably better than what built in laptop offers.

24'' 1080p IPS 75hz with FreeSync 90$

24'' 1080p VA 144hz with FreeSync 180$

This will net you around same price at way better experience by smooth gameplay cause of higher performance and better monitor with also longer longevity.

I’m ok with some overkill... she’s my baby sister, the youngest of us, and is graduating. She’s pretty serious about she wants to do, far more so than I was about anything at that age lol. I don’t mind spending a little extra on her on this one occasion. I see it as an investment in her future. Plus she may be able to use it to make a little money while in school with some freelance art commissions or graphic design I dunno, but I’d like her to have options to do that sorta thing and more. She’s slightly undecided about which specific direction she wants to go and is gonna start college with general education courses before declaring a major. This is one of the reasons everything I said is a bit scattered in terms of its usefulness for any specific thing. Also I’m a gamer not an artist/animator so I don’t know much about what is useful for animation.

If the Ryzen 7 is more than enough I will definitely stick with that. The next lowest cpu isn’t that much savings so there isn’t much reason not to get the 7. I will avoid skylake x and TR tho and spend the money elsewhere.

One of the reasons I wanted to go 4K is because I know at least with gaming anything over 24” in 1080p you start to see the individual pixels in the screen and I figured for art she would need more clarity. I was look at this LG monitor as it’s color accuracy is said to be great in the reviews, but perhaps that’s only for general purpose use and not art? What specifically should I look for in a monitor, both in 4K and 1080p? How necessary is two monitors? Like how specifically do you use it to your advantage? What would be your ideal monitor setup? Desk space might be minimal so dual monitors or a single monitor over 27” could be tricky, I’m not sure.

I probably can’t afford a cintiq without sacrificing heavily in other things as I don’t see any under $1k, but what about a cheaper alternative brand like this? or perhaps you can point towards a more affordable cintiq that I missed?

Lastly, I forgot to ask about ram. Was planning on 32gb 3200mhz ram, is that adequate? Or if 16gb is good enough I can put that $ towards other stuff, but 32 seems to be the magic number.

Given that we had that discussion in the prior thread I will show you a build as well. The one you got is not bad, but I think it is possible to improve it a bit.

Ryzen 5 1600, for the best compromise between performance in games and other applications, and performance and price. It comes with a proper stock cooler, no need to buy an aftermarket cooler. ATX-sized mainboard in a case with a window, HDD + SSD. 16GB of fast ram (gives Ryzen a boost), and there is a good GTX 1060 that is cheaper currently than usual. The psu is high quality, and has enough wattage for overclocking later on.

I recommend https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Mechanical-Enthusiasts-Backlighting-Double-shot/dp/B01MA6O13L, a real mechanical keyboard. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816067 is a nice mouse, of course there are many alternatives.

I'd take https://www.amazon.com/LG-25UM56P-25-Class-UltraWide/dp/B0170TSYGK as a display, it is ultrawide, cheap, looks quite nice and has an IPS panel. https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW would be a bigger alternative, that also looks nicer with its stand and slim bezel, but is a bit above the ideal budget.
u/WrenchViking · 3 pointsr/Amd

At first glance, the MSI is better. If the 1ms response time is true grey-to-grey, then the VA panel will look better then the TN. TN is generally faster, but they're both rated at 1ms, so assuming that's true, the VA will give the better contrast and viewing angles. However, it's not as bright as the AOC and it's also not VESA-mountable, so mounting it to an arm or wall-mounting it isn't possible. The prices are close enough that it comes down to preference on specific convenience items. Even with curved vs flat is subjective and something only you can decide.

Personally, if it were my budget, I would split the price difference and get the AOC C24G1. It essentially combines the best features of both monitors you listed and falls right in between their budget. It has nearly identical panel specs to the MSI, but is $10 cheaper and is VESA mountable, allowing more flexibility if you ever want to go multi-monitor. It also has a good record of being G-Sync compatible on the majority of games and applications. It's been a crowd favorite for a long time for a reason- it's an amazing price-to-performance option.

u/xMisterTryHard · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I think it is if the price is within reason. I definitely don't think you need another s2716dg, and that is where it gets hard. There are appropriately priced options out there imo, but not sold by Dell so if you want them to look the same it will be a higher price tag.

Basically if I were you would want IPS, same size and perferrably same bezel. Options there are something like a U2715H or U2717D from Dell. Removing the bezel preference drops the price form $500ish to mid $300s. Then just go for what looks nice and will work well (make sure to pay attention to vesa capabilities). In the end if thats more then you want to spend, pick up the SE2717H on Newegg right now for $140 and $130 after $10 MIR. This monitor is only 1080 but for a good price and has an almost identical bezel to the S2716DG. It can be mounted as well but with an adapter sold seperately and a proper monitor arm.

Edit: and after everything above, if time isn't a constraint, just wait and play the market for a 1440 monitor in the future as sales are bound to happen eventually.

Edit 2: Something like this would do very nicely if you can justify the cost.
Dell U2717D

Edit 3: Upon further looking I guess I would go for the U2715H over the U2717D as it has a better stand, and VESA capabilites if you wanted that (if you don't now, you may in the future).

I pulled the trigger on a Samsung C32HG70 over the weekend cause the price went down to $460 on Amazon. But the price jumped to $550 today!

I highly suggest looking into the LG 27UK650. It has 4k with HDR. It's an IPS display also (amazing colors but slow GTG latency). The only down side is that it's 60hz, so it's a bit weak on the PC side. But this is a good deal right now on Amazon at $396! It's the cheapest it's ever been. If you want amazing colors at 4k... this is your best bet. If you want 144hz with 2k super sampling, VA Panel with 1ms GTG and also has HDR... go with the Samsung C27HG70.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078GRM2MV/?coliid=IH05Q9ZMG3Y6&colid=3OAWWDZBFQ45P&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

(Side Note) Even though Samsung C27HG70 and the C32HG70 are 2K monitors, the PS4 Pro downscales everything to 1080P for all monitors that are 2K. THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE with the Samsung models. The PS4 Pro recognizes these monitors as 4K and the monitor will do all the super sampling. In my opinion, this is an amazing feature that I've only seen on this Samsung display.

Happy Hunting

If you haven't already ordered that 27ES, I suggest waiting a bit. Yes, it will work fine with your MBPR, and everything on the screen will be the right physical size as people have mentioned.

But if you're used to the high quality, non-pixelated display you're getting now (especially for text), a 27" FHD monitor is going to be pretty disappointing by comparison.

Some numbers:

Your 13" display has 227 pixels per inch, or 51,520 pixels per square inch.

The 27ES has 81.6 pixels per inch, or 6,659 pixels per square inch.

51,520 / 6,659 is about 7.74.

In other words, where you have about 8 pixels on your MacBook, they are crunched down to one pixel on the 27" display. That's a huge difference, especially in text crispness and clarity.

Everything will be bigger, all right, but you won't be able to put more "stuff" on the screen.

My personal recommendation to pair with either a 13" or 15" MBPR is a 24" UHD/4K display. For example, the LG 24UD58-B has a pixel density of 185 pixels per inch or 34,269 pixels per square inch. That's a reasonably close match to the Retina display's density, and you get the exact same number of pixels you'd have on a 27" UHD/4K display for less money.

It is more than you'd pay for the 27ES, but again comparing the numbers:

34,269 / 6,659 is 5.15. So you're getting 5 times the number of pixels per square inch.

That LG looks like one of the better values in 24" UHD/4K displays right now. As usual for Amazon, the price always goes up and down. It's a bit less than $300 right now.

Here's a spreadsheet that compares the pixel density of a variety of monitors.

Important Note

The other reason to get a BIG display even if it has poor pixel density is if your eyesight isn't good and you simply need the larger physical size because things are too blurry otherwise. If this hasn't happened to you yet, it will. Do yourself a favor and visit a good optometrist. Bring your MacBook with you and tell them you want a pair of single vision lenses adjusted for the distance to your computer screen. You don't want a "reading" prescription; that is typically about 16" focusing distance. You want a single vision prescription for your computer screen, closer to 20" for most people.

I have seen too many of my friends and colleagues who have to put their faces close to the screen and squint to make things out, when their vision could be easily corrected. I used to be that way myself: "I'm just not the type of person who needs glasses." But when I got my first pair of single vision computer lenses, well, let's just say it it was a real eye-opener.

Just constantly play skirmish and rumble to improve gun skill. Also, either use a sniper OR a shotgun OR a sidearm and stick to that and dont keep switching, for instance, I'm a sniper although as I've perfected my sniping, I have used a shotgun occasionally.

CHOOSE YOUR GUNS!
Choose a set of guns that you prefer and use them until you have mastered them. Remember, no gun is overpowered or underpowered in the current meta (unless there is a glitch with it and excluding Grasp Of Malok cause that weapon is just spam and little skill IMO(!!)) My setup is doctorine w/ counterbalance and i use rifled barrel(!), 1KYS w/ hidden hand, shortgaze, last resort, rifled barrel and I use the IB rocket with G&H and tripod.

TIPS
If you want some tips, you have come to the right place! If you want to get better easier, don't use stormcaller or bladedancer or sunbreaker (unless you main these subclasses and are a veteran with them) as they are high skill subclasses for 3's. Supers such as striker, nova bomb and golden gun can shut you down instantly so I would recommend striker, goldie or nova bomb.

Communicate more!

If you face a higher skilled team than you, do an aggressive push at the start of the match to put them on their back foot. (use www.destinytrialsreport.com !!) If you face the people who shotgun rush, use a universal remote with a sniper, I love to use this setup as it gives me extreme versitality but it is only for people who are highly skilled and can snipe like a god IMO.

ME PERSONALLY
Personally, run trials with my cousin who is lower skilled than me but is still top 16,000 for trials whereas I would be ~3,000 if I had been able to play in the last 2 months (my cable broke and I can't find a vga (I think is what's called) to HDMI converter that works (spent +£100 on them still no luck) so I am ordering a new monitor! Yes, it's overkill but I am also an avid CSGO player!
Furthermore, we (I) usually carry our friends to flawless.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B19T7QC/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Add me ps4: (i will be playing soon and I will add you if i feel like carrying/playing trials! (make sure you say 'sent by finnmeister in reddit' in the message box when you add me!)

Thanks!! Hope this helps :D

I used pcpartpicker.com to filter the specs I needed, and unfortunately most of the 144hz monitors I found were unfortunately out of stock (or would take long to deliver). Here's what I found:

This Asus is 75hz but cheaper than most.

This Acer sounds perfect but is unfortunately out of stock.

And as stated previously, this AOC would also be great, but is out of stock temporarily as well.

I guess the Asus one sounds better than just a 60hz, but i'll have to look up some reviews. What do you think, if I may ask?

EDIT: I keep seeing people saying that 144hz doesn't work with HDMI, and using HDMI seems like you'll get a max of 75~hz? I'd also like to add that I definitely understand the future proofing, but as of right now the only games I go over even 70-80 fps in are games like csgo (which I don't play so often anymore), and star wars BF/battlefield. On top of that, I'm ignorant to the glory that is anything above 60hz, so it wouldn't be a huge detriment to me. I'll definitely be on the look out for these monitors, but I just can't seem to find any at a good price for my budget, or that are in stock. Thank you though!

u/charz0r · 0 pointsr/buildapc

So... I've put a part list together for you, this is the sort of rig I would aim to build for the requirements you've listed.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/8pNLq4

It is quite pricey so there are a couple of things that you could do to reduce that. One you could get a cheaper cooler such as the Cryorig H7, this is a fantastic cooler and at a good price. Though with streaming and gaming, I'd anticipate high temps in your CPU and so would recommend the Noctua due to the fact it is phenomenal at what it does. You can even get customisable covers for it and what not if you wanted to go that route! You could go for an all in one liquid cooler, but these will be a little more expensive.

Second, you could scrap the SSD and just got with the mechanical drive, I recommend keeping it in there if you have the cash to throw at it because the speed difference in loading games and booting Windows is very good.

I have opted for AMD in this part list due to Intel being rather expensive at the moment, AMD have extremely good price to performance. One last alteration you may consider, this is entirely up to you would be to get a GTX 1080. This would probably add about 100/150 to the total price so bare that in mind.

I haven't included a monitor in the list above but for your needs something like this would be suitable - https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VG248QE-Widescreen-Multimedia-80000000/dp/B00B19T7QC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541439488&sr=8-1&keywords=144hz+1ms

This is a 144Hz refresh rate monitor to take advantage of the high frames that the 1070/1080 will give you at a pretty good price.

Any other lurkers on the board please chip in if you think any of what I've suggested is insufficient and let's help this guy get going!

If you want to try 21:9 ultrawide, this should be a good place to start.
I included a CPU/MOBO/Cooler that can handle modest overclocking, incase you want to jump into it. There's a good guide on /r/overclocking and many youtube videos out there to get you started.
I went with a RX480 because the monitor supports Freesync. This an AMD only technology and would make this setup truly worth it.
Now if you didn't want a 21:9 ultrawide, you could swap that out for a GTX 1070 and a 144Hz 24" 1080p Monitor. Though I will note, that this monitor is also freesync and would benefit from an AMD GPU. That being said, the RX480 has a hard time reaching 144 FPS in most newer games.
* A note -- The 21:9 Monitor I included has support for 75Hz Freesync over Display Port, despite the product page on some sites listing it only at 60Hz.
u/Erendil · 2 pointsr/Planetside

Assuming price isn't an object, I'd highly recommend these two for gaming monitors:

If you have an AMD video card: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

If you have an NVIDIA video card: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ

Both are 34-inch, 21:9 ratio, 2560x1080, 144Hz monitors with IPS panels. So they're large, wide, fast and gorgeous.

Trust me, once you play games on a 21:9 monitor, anything less feels like tunnel vision. 21:9 works flawlessly in PS2 and looks incredible.

Both monitors will also sync your refresh rate to your in-game framerate to minimize lag. But they are vid card brand specific. The first one will sync only with AMD vid cards, and the 2nd one will only sync w/ NVIDIA. But even without the frame sync they are extremely fast. Not quite as fast as the fastest TN panels, but VERY close.

Here's a good review of the AMD-tailored monitor so you can get a good idea of how it performs. It's what I use (I own an Nvidia card but it came out 1 year earlier than the Nvidia monitor and I couldn't wait). http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_34uc79g.htm

EDIT: To answer your questions:

  • Yes, 144Hz is important, it's one of the main reasons I chose the monitor I did. It was the first 34-inch, 21:9 ratio, 2560x1080, 144Hz monitor with IPS panel. Although anything above 120Hz is "good enough" for most people.

  • Response time and input lag are both important. Read the TFTcentral review for more info on why.

  • IMO 2560x1080 is the sweet spot for gaming. You get the 21:9 ratio but the hardware requirements to run 21:9 at decent framrates is much lower than if you went with 3440x1440.

  • Panel type comes down to TN vs IPS for gaming. TN is the absolute fastest but IPS is right on its heels. And IPS panels have better colors and wider viewing angles. They just look better.

  • Nvidia G-Sync / AMD FreeSync are important since as stated above they sync your refresh rate to your in-game framerate, potentially greatly reducing your input lag.

For budget level I've seen in person the Viewsonic XG2401 , Acer XF24H (Roommate owns this one) , and Samsung C24FG70 (I own this one) and they're all really good budget monitors. If I had to rank them in terms of display it would be Samsung->Viewsonic->Acer. The Samsung is the only one that is not a TN pane but it is also the priciest. I bought it because I got it on a huge deal at Fry's. the curve is negligible. All 144hz, all 1 ms response time, all 1920x1080 which is all we can hope for at this level of GPU really, maybe a little 1440 but not a whole lot. I would recommend any of the three. We were cautious about the Acer due to lack of reviews but has really impressed us so far. Just have to a do a little fiddling with colors out of the box. Another bonus the Samsung has is the quality as it comes out of the box. It also produces the largest reproduction of color gamut. In my opinion all are very good value and fantastic 144hz entry level monitors. They're no 144hz IPS GSync monitor or anything but they definitely get there job done!

I really like this guy's digital paintings and concept art- http://fengzhudesign.com/

he does most of them in native film ratios, so it will fit nicely if I use the full-res versions he puts up occasionally. I'll also hopefully paint something of my own that I can use... a big part of why I was so excited to switch to 21:9 is digital painting. I've been doing it on my 16:9 for a while as I've been learning, but a bit more space would be really nice.

First games I'm going to play will probably be Squad or DOOM, as that's what I've been playing recently. 'Steep' will probably be pretty cool too if it supports 21:9. I don't know how much longer that's in open beta, but hopefully for at least another couple weeks. I'll probably get back into ARMA3 as well. I play Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa every so often as well, so a wider screen will really be nice for that until the second generation of VR is out. I decided I'd prefer to wait for gen2 before I take the dive into either Rift or Vive.

u/GamerInChaos · 3 pointsr/Xbox_One_X

That monitor is 3440x1440 which is not 4k (3840x2160 as pointed out by another commenter) - so you won't get 4k on it. You will be able to get 1440p in theory (I can't find a definitive answer on this, but there were a lot of reports "confirming" support for it on Xbox One X at some point - but I don't think it is there now.)

I have a 32" 4k monitor (Acer Predator) and I cannot run my Xbox One X on it at 4k because it is using an outdated HDMI interface. I didn't buy the monitor for that, but I didn't test it as I have been experimenting with monitors vs 4k TV for gaming.

So if you buy a monitor for your Xbox One X make sure it is true 4K/UHD and has HDMI 2+ ports (and not 1.X like my predator). I'd recommend waiting for HDR10 monitors though.

I think these are the best choices today:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDY3TXW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A13BNE3P7C8THK&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F6D1ITM/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

I think this will be the best choice when it ships:
http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-32UK950-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor

I may buy one or more of these to test - if so I will post a review here. Right now I am using:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N4ENDXR/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which I bought to test out the refresh rate. I'm not sure I love it and I think I want a 32" monitor.

Hope that's helpful.

I have this with a shitty 20” 60hz hp monitor next to it. Obviously it’s considerably bigger but honestly it’s still very nice for multi tasking. Would highly recommend the asus vg278q it’s been great the past year or so

Edit: just to be clear, when gaming I only use the asus. It’s nice and big and frankly have no desire to get another one or a widescreen monitor. 27” is perfect for me personally

u/Wtf_socialism_really · 1 pointr/Monitors

You will drop some frames going to a 1440p monitor, but 60-144 hz is a huge difference and pretty much the biggest difference of all right now. It will also help somewhat with aliasing due to the greater number of pixels on screen at once.

If you have any intention of upgrading your GPU at some point, 1440p is an even more attractive option because those GPUs will drive 1440p even better.

Quick edit: I also say I'm very surprised at the cost of that TN panel from ASUS. Their premium on ROG is insane. For that price you can literally get an IPS Acer Predator or save a good chunk of money on the equivalent TN panel

u/poperatwork · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Alright, well - You could push frames higher than 60 on some less graphically intense games, but nothing like GTA V.

I think you would be just fine with a much cheaper monitor, something in the $150-$200 range, but if you have the money to spend, maybe something like this would be cool:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525796551&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+29+inch

It may start to struggle at full 2560x1080 resolution in the future, but you can always just bring games back to a regular 1920x1080 resolution. It will just have black bars on the sides, but your screen size would be about that of a normal 24 inch monitor at that point. Keep in mind this monitor does go on sale for less than this price fairly regularly I am pretty sure, so you may want to wait and scope it out for a couple weeks before buying if you decide to go for it.

My girlfriend has this monitor and she uses it for graphics design and gaming and loves it. Again, you can save money here and get a regular 24 inch 1080p monitor, but if you have the money to spend why not spend it on a cool ultrawide experience.

There are higher priced 1080p monitors with 144hz that may also be nice, but I don't know how well you will be able to push those frames on a 1060 6gb.

u/Noobefloob · 1 pointr/buildapc

OP, you should really reconsider your reasoning, as this guy speaks the truth :P 25 inches is very, very small for a 21:9 screen. It is actually rather uncomfortable to open 2 browser windows side by side even for basic multitasking, as the real estate is barely better than a 20 inch 16:9.

If you are really set on the 25 inch, try going into a local store and seeing one in person, I think you will find the vertical height a bit off-putting once you see it.

29" is the size I would most definitely recommend, being equivalent to the popular 24" 16:9, but extended. This monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW
Is one of the best in the range you can buy. Unlike the 25" version you were considering, this one also runs at 75hz (and also has freesync, but that's not really useful since you have a 1060). So for the size premium, and the bonus refresh rate, it is a very well justified yet small price increase over the 25".

Hope you consider some of this OP!

u/McMurry · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yes, if you do not game, the high refresh would be nice, everything would be slightly smoother, but ya, very unnecessary. Definitely skip GSYNC.

Got my wife one of these and she loves it: Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-Inch

I might suggest you reconsider 4k. It is a much more 'standard' resolution, meaning panels can be shared with TVs to lower the overall cost. In many cases you can get a nice 4k for not much more than a 1440p panel and in some cases cheaper:
For example; LG 27UD58-B 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS

Good Luck with your search! Hopefully some other folks will give some alternative recommendations!

u/Stereomicroscoop · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Okay well, what kind of games do you play? If it's FPS then a good GPU and a 144Hz monitor is almost a must. Keep in mind mechanical keyboards are expensive, but are the best for gaming. A 144Hz monitor might findable for 200$, for example the best budget monitor for gamers I find is this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VG248QE-Widescreen-Multimedia-80000000/dp/B00B19T7QC

It's a 24 inch 1080p (so decent GPU is enough) 144Hz and 1ms monitor for around $220 if you find a good retailer.

If the PC is going to cost 700 moneys and you are trying to get a nice gaming setup, bear in mind you'll be pushing the $1000 border.

If you give me a few mins I'll try to get you started with a nice list of components.

This is out of own experience, research and knowledge.

u/KiwiJuce3 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

honestly for about 40 euros more I would go with a Ryzen 3 1200 (£92 [mobo for it (£50]), results are high-max settings 60fps in almost all titles older then a year, and about 60 in medium settings AAA titles. The pentium being a dual core cpu really limits it in the future, even though it is hyperthreaded, and the Ryzen 3 offers overclocking.

As for the keyboard and monitor, a good monitor I've found is (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CLZ047Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), though you might have to find a european version. Its decently large for the size, reliable, and works pretty, but it doesnt get too bright in direct sunlight, so you might want to close your window when gaming, although we all live in our mother's basement's so that wont affect you (loljk)

As for the keyboard, I'd say go with the Blackwidow Chroma, tournament edition. Reliable, nice looking, and nice feeling.

These two things together might be going over-budget a little, but they're both quality products. Feel free to switch out the keyboard for a cheaper one from another company, but I'd definitely recommend that monitor.

If you are looking for a mouse, I'de say go with the Logitech G403 Prodigy Wireless gaming mouse, offers a nice build, and wired connection to charge while using.

in my opinion, since my build is very similar, you best bets for moniters would be:

IPS: Acer Predator xb271hu
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N11QIYW/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1492867021&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=acer+predator

  • IPS, so it has better picture quality
  • looks quite sexy
  • might find a good deal at your local Costco

    TN Panel: Dell S2417DG
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-24-led-qhd-gsync-monitor-black/5655614.p?skuId=5655614

  • TN Panel, so it's cheaper
  • good quality TN Panel however so it will still look great
  • on sale right now at best buy

    Both:

  • have gsync, which will allow you to stay with the 1080 ti for quite a long time

  • come in 24 or 27"

  • Have Vesa mounts
u/Mirelurking123 · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you have a amd gpu more then likely the Acer one would be better might I also recommend https://www.amazon.com/Nixeus-1920x1080-Adaptive-Sync-Widescreen-NX-VUE24A/dp/B0131PBN6U if you can spend 30 more it has a good free sync range 30 to 144 which is what you should be looking for if you care about free sync if you dont care I heard good things about the Acer monitors jayztwocents did a video about his a few years ago if I recall. If you have a Nivida gpu should try to look for a screen without free sync I heard about the gpus acting oddly with free sync monitors a guy named joker productions made a video about it if your curious anyways enough rambling from me best of luck.

I would definitely go with 1440p for just gaming. I have a 4k monitor at work at a 1440p one for personal use. I can't really notice a difference with gaming between 1440p and 4k unless you put them side by side doing the same thing. I think 1440p would fit better into your budget and requires far less graphical power to drive. There is a massive difference between 4k and 1440p for viewing lots of text on the screen at once so you if you anything like that it might be worth it. I would also recommend that you take a look at IPS panels and adaptive refresh rate monitors (g-sync for nvidia). IPS is slightly slower (it won't matter unless you play very competitive games) and costs more. However, it will display more colors and will display them more accurately. G-sync allows your graphics card to dynamically set the refresh rate of your monitor which leads to a far better gaming experience, especially when your frame rate is below 120hz. My personal monitor has both of these technologies and they make a big difference.
The monitor you picked out has a 60hz refresh rate, that's fine for casual gaming but I recommend you pick out one with a higher refresh rate before you get one in 4k.

Reccomendations:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01IOO4SGK/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
This one is 1440p, g-sync, 144hz, and TN. It's a little out of your budget but regularly goes on sale. My friend has one for cs-go and loves it.

https://www.amazon.com/AOC-AG241QX-2560x1440-Adjustable-DisplayPort/dp/B01NCTHS6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519152011&sr=8-1&keywords=1440p+120hz
This is a 1440p, freesync (you'll need an amd gpu to take advantage of the adaptive refresh), 144hz, TN monitor. It's a little bit cheaper than the last one.

u/MrAchilles · 1 pointr/xboxone

Found two very quickly for you. Both have solid reviews and are roughly within budget.

This 27inch ASUS monitor is 1080p, 144hz and has a 1ms response time for $279.00. Granted it's a little higher than you wanted but it also comes down to $189 for a 24inch and I believe 40-75hz. 144hz would be great for next-gen too.

This ASUS one is currently $259.99, is 1080p, 144hz and 1ms response time, 24 inches. I have personally see this and it has some great colors. Currently have one in the house.

Both have exceptional reviews (4.4/5 stars with 1000+ reviews).

Like I said, look around and see what deals there are but you can't go wrong with these.

My 4K ASUS monitor is currently available for 299.00 on Amazon, too. 1ms response time and 60hz. I personally love it.

u/FlamingLizardGaming · 2 pointsr/suggestapc

Sure, what games will you be playing? That will help me find one.

Knowing nothing about your gaming habits, this monitor
Is about the best you can buy. A really fast refresh rate (good for shooting games and competitive games like rainbow six siege, csgo, fortnite, pubg, overwatch, Fallout, pretty much any games) this monitor has a really high resolution compared to the standard 1080p monitor. It also has G-sync that makes games a lot smoother. (It only works with Nvidia gpus)

IF you want a cheaper monitor, then this 4K monitor is both bigger and has a much higher resolution (more detail) but a lower refresh rate, so the image won’t be as smooth and snappy (which isn’t important for games like WoW or Dota or more casual games like Strategy games or games like undertale/enter the gungeon)

You can always have one 4K or 1440p monitor and then a smaller or cheaper 1080p monitor next to it for YouTube videos or google while gaming.

(Lmao I should make an Amazon affiliate link and make some ca$h from this)

I'm looking for a good 144hz /240hz monitor for fast paced fps games.
I've got a 1080ti.

My only requirements are

  • that it has decent viewing angles (for consuming movies not directly in front of it )
  • not much ghosting
  • and under 400 or 500 cad.

I have Amazon prime so something from Amazon would be nice but not necessary.

Here's some I found. Anyone recommend these?

    ViewSonic XG2530 (25" 240hz)

    Alienware 25 240hz Gaming Monitor - AW2518Hf

I've not really found anything good for the 1440p 144hz in the 450 range.
    What do I even go with, 1440p 144hz or 1080p 240hz?

If you guys can help with some recommendations or insight that'd be great :)
u/Marrow14 · 2 pointsr/buildapc
  1. Cooling is never a bad thing to include in a build, your CPU will not fry without one, but I would recommend purchasing one. The cooler you listed is compatible with AM3+ sockets.

  2. PSUs aren't too expensive. If you wish to upgrade in the future you could just get a new PSU with the upgrade. Your electric bill won't go up because of the amount of wattage your PSU supports (only what your computer draws for wattage).

  3. The difference between companies is how the GPU is manufactured (could be the amount of fans, clock speeds, dimensions of the card, etc.). The big difference is performance, the EVGA card has a faster core clock at 1152 Mhz and the Zotac has a core clock of 1089 Mhz. I'd recommend this model of the 950, though (more fans and a higher clock speed) https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Cooling-Graphics-02G-P4-2951-KR/dp/B013WQCC8Q.

Note: if your budget is tight, don't be afraid to lose a little bit of performance by purchasing the Zotac brand GPU. I would recommend the higher quality card, but at the end of the day they are both GTX 950s.

  4. Here's a nice mid tower case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146189&cm_re=nzxt-_-11-146-189-_-Product.

Also, another recommendation for a monitor https://www.amazon.com/AOC-I2267FW-22-Inch-Frameless-Brightness/dp/B00CLZ047Q/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1465717255&sr=1-8&keywords=monitors (I personally enjoy monitors with a thin bezel).

Note: Sorry if I left any needed info, feel free to ask if you need more in-depth answers.

Awesome, thanks for the article. I ended up going with this monitor. I was debating on a 1440p 144Hz, but I'm not really doing any intense gaming, and I would rather have the display closer to retina. I'm hoping the monitor I ordered is decent - the reviews are promising and I've always been a fan of ASUS. Reviews say its a good pairing with the MBP. Hopefully I don't run into the blurry text bug, but I'll keep that article in handy if that happens. Thanks again!

Honestly, that's not a bad monitor. I don't think you'd see much of a visual improvement with any modern 1080p monitor.

120-144hz is always a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion, especially in games like CSGO and DOTA2. Something like this Asus would do the job nicely.

I would stay at 1080p as your system will have a hard time running most games at a higher resolution.

Edit: I totally forgot about Freesync! If you get a new monitor, definitely get one with Freesync; I use G-Sync on a daily basis and it's amazing. This looks to be a good one

Okay so your build can probably run a lot of games at 1440p. I'm really no expert but I have been doing some research as I will be shopping for a new monitor soon. Check out 144hzmonitors it has some pretty good options and might help you decide. They have a 24inch with freesync that might fit your needs and budget. But you could also probably use a 27inch non freesync monitor as well. Wish I could be of more help but I'm in a similar boat as you.

u/Fireavatar3 · 1 pointr/Monitors

I don't mean to hijack the post, but I had a question for you NCX, and didn't see any other good way to ask.

I've read your forum of reviews and you seem very well versed in the subject. It just can be an overwhelming amount of information.

With a use case of work of app developing and occasional single player gaming, is there any significant benefit for a lot of the monitors on your list over the LG 27UD58 at it's $299 price point? I'm not going to be editing photos or media, so the minute differences in color accuracy may be lost on me. I just want a significant upgrade from my current main monitor (which is a BenQ 24" 1080p TN panel). My budget ceiling is in the ballpark of 500, but I'm trying to understand what, if anything is a big difference between the low and mid end of 4k IPS monitors and get the best bang for my buck.

Thanks for all of your help and time, I see that you've assisted a lot of people on this sub.

Hey, First time builder. I am starting to look at BAPC and decided to just start taking a look at monitors. Looks like there are so many choices that it seems best to get this out of the way. Anywho, Im just looking to see how realistic my search is for a sexy monitor at a decent price:

  1. ultra-wide, 27", up to 4k
  2. Minimum bezels
  3. Curved(?)... probably too expensive.

Other than these aesthetics, Im not sure what else to look for...

  • G/free-sync?
  • Whats a good response time?
  • Whats a good refresh rate?

Purpose of the PC will be casual gaming, light productivity, watching shows. Id love to find something around $200. But I would go up to $400. (This might be overkill considering the PC budget will be $800-1000ish, If I can make it 4k compatible with decent FPS at this price point)

Tell me whats wrong with these examples:

Assuming low response time and not 4k?

    Is 60hz RR any good?

Lastly, 5ms RT when many monitors have 1ms?

I might just be over thinking it all but please let me know how my expectations are and if any example is actually a good monitor.

    Thanks for reading =D

With your 970, you're pretty much limited to a 1080p monitor. One of the best monitors in this category that money can buy is the Asus VG248QE.

Great colours, very high contrast ratio, 144Hz (you mentioned you mostly play Rocket league (me too!), and a 970 will easily be able to get 144fps in RL), 1ms response time (so pretty much instant), the list goes on.

If you're interested in getting a GTX 1070, that's a different story. The 1070 is capable of 1440p gaming.

Thank you for your thoughts!

Some background on this build: it will be used for gaming and additionally daily software development/data science.

I kept the CPU down as I was worried about thermal, but I could do a 9900K if that wouldn't be a problem.

My reason for the "over-the-top"-ness of this build is that I haven't changed my current build in quite some time (my current CPU is a 3770K), and just wanted to be as future-proof as possible in the event that I do the same with this one.

I went with that SSD as the PRO series supposedly has better lifespan and long-term performance. That said I have had both EVO and PRO and never had a problem with either.

I have this monitor (1440p at 144Hz). I hope to step to 4K in the future and was planning for that. I do some data science for work and the GPU is also to train some models locally.

The 32GB RAM is helpful for the types of workloads I will have, and future-proofing for gaming.

The issues with the PSU cables are good to know and I was considering custom cabling to keep everything clean. I was mostly concerned with having the cables able to be routed around the AIO as much as possible. Do you have any recommendations for custom cabling?

Reductions in price can come from the retailer, the manufacturer or both.

I think we now see more manufacturer price breaks now in BF because they are doing it across North America.

Does Boxing day have more retailer discounts? Maybe. I don't think so. Could be the case in stores which is the idea behind boxing day. People went in to return gifts so you hook them with a discount while they are in the store. But we buy most of our electronics online now.

Well, I mean you could get the monitors later if it's not in your budget, but it is something you would definitely want to do at some point if you want to get the best visual quality you can. 4k monitors would also be a choice, but you're really limited to just 60 Hz refresh rates. There are 4k 144Hz monitors, but they're insanely expensive. I think most people would agree that 1440p 144 Hz is a better visual experience than 4K 60 Hz.

Something like this is what I would be looking at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N11QIYW.

u/LethalBacon · 3 pointsr/AverageBattlestations

A bit of a budget setup, but I am finally extremely happy with it. PC running R7 370 and 1090T. Still handles most games fine on med-high, but hopefully upgrading in about a year.

After the picture was taken I moved the mount about 8 inches to the left. There is a bracket in the middle of my desk that prevents it from being perfectly centered. Any suggestions for what to do next? Mouse upgrade is probably most practical - I've been using a $20 'gaming' mouse for about a year.

Monitor - Found out after I got it that if you keep an eye out it occasionally drops to just over $200.

I have https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW5CGIS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with a GTX 1060, and adore it. I have only used a 1080p screen, so the pixel density is fine. Sure text isn't as crisp as it is on my phone, but hey for $450 on sale I can't complain. I will never go back to a 16:9 again after owning this ultrawide. A 1070 would be perfect for that monitor. The G-sync is 100% a bonus, but the price hike for it is pretty crazy.

Games look incredible on this monitor you won't notice the resolution unless you are sitting too close to the screen. 1440p ultrawides with high refresh rates are close to $1000 on top of the gpu you need to take advantage of.

u/_-KAZ-_ · 3 pointsr/Monitors

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to 4k screens. But yea it's probably possible if it's 4k at 60hz without HDR. For web design development (if you mean graphics as well as code) it would be good to get an IPS type panel.

Had a quick search and found;

  1. LG 27UD68P. Old monitor, but still popular.

  2. LG 27UK650. Hey! It's got HDR10, but not sure if that's true or marketing. 500 bucks though :(

  3. Dell P2715Q. 400 bucks. Make sure you have a GPU with Display Port for 60hz, as according to the specs, HDMI is only 30hz.

Also don't be afraid to look for 32" 4k monitors. The pixel density on those are excellent too.

EDIT 1: Added more info on products listed.

EDIT 2: Actually the Dell S2719DM that you linked is probably the best option.

Ok, what's your budget to begin with?
And what's the main purpose of the monitor? (Gaming, art, design, etc..)

I recently bought a Dell S2716DG/R for my gaming rig and was pleasantly surprised with the picture quality. (Upgraded from a 1080p 32" TV monitor.)

Specs of the Dell
-27" screen
-2560 x 1440 at 144hz (DisplayPort)
-G-Sync
-1ms Response
-TN panel (I know you're looking for an IPS)
-Color Gamut (typical): 82% (CIE1976), 72% (CIE 1931) Color depth: 16.7 Million colors
-DisplayPort and HDMI
-2 USB 3.0 ports

Price: Bought it on 08/26/2017 at $449 (Best Buy) (Wait for the price drop, maybe you can get it for lower.)

Now, there's a 24" version that I've seen go down to $380 at Amazon. Dell 2417DG

If you can try to see the monitor in operation before buying, go check it out. But, it's been an amazing Switch for me and the colors have been way better than my original screen.

^ This is my pick.

Another monitor to consider

AOC Agon AG271QX

I've looked into this and was going to get it, until I found the Dell on sale... pretty good reviews. (Look outside of Amazon reviews, those are mixed with other products)

To pick up on IncultusMagica's parts list, if you swap out the GTX 1060 3gb model to a 6gb, and sacrifice 2 inches of screen for a great monitor from AOC I got with DVI cables, you can increase your graphics and still enjoy a great monitor. I got it about a month ago and it works outstanding and have had no issues with it whatsoever. Good viewing angles.

I have a pair of Dell U2415 monitors side by side and they are fantastic. The aspect ratio is 16:10 instead of the usual 16:9 so its just a bit taller and I think that makes all the difference. It's 1920x1200, so 1080p content still plays at full HD, but having a set of plans up or two docs side by side is more comfortable.

Having two monitors gives me the flexibility to turn one or both into portrait every now and then if I'm working with a tall document. I prefer these two over 1 4k display.

While I'm at it, I'll say I'm a huge fan of the Logitech MX Master mouse. I would recommend a docking station too. It saves time and wear and tear on your ports.

u/histbook · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have a Dell U2415 1200p monitor and I love it. The extra vertical pixels are great for productivity and the aspect ratio has given me zero problems with most games. The monitor is great too...very vibrant, good color accuracy and easy on the eyes.

u/scoobs0688 · 2 pointsr/nvidia

I would pass on that LG, the resolution isn't going to push your 2080ti much at all. If you're set on ultra-wide, I'd go with this instead This might be (totally is) the best ultra-wide monitor on the planet. Pricey but its simply stunning.

Personally, I don't think ultra-wide is worth it. If you think you can go without it, and would love to save yourself a few hundred dollars, check out this monitor... 1440p 165hz, it is incredible

u/shinramyun247 · 1 pointr/buildapc

It’s a great monitor, but do you REALLY need 4K? Think this through because you are using just a CPU and no GPU so if you want to utilize and have more performance from the CPU when rendering, I would recommend a 25-27 inch 1440p, just as good but easier on the cpu so you have more to work with, even though the CPU does support 4K. Secondly you have PLENTY of room in that case, I don’t know what you’re talking about, especially the fact that it will not have a GPU. The case also supports up to one 2.5 storage mount.

Tip: Also if you did have Windows 7 or 8 in the past, that same serial key will work to activate Windows 10.

My suggestion to you:

u/Crimtide · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Personally, when I went from 60 to 75, I didn't notice a big difference, but it was slightly noticeable. More noticeable on the desktop than in the games I play. A bit more fluid movement. The biggest difference is going up to 100+ Hz, preferably 144Hz obviously.

I love LG panels so much that I bought this LG 34UC79G-B 144Hz IPS Curved Ultrawide when it was on sale for $499.99.. even though I use an EVGA GTX 1080 SC, and it's 2560x1080.. but looks stunning.

It's on sale again from the same person I bought it from on eBay for $519.99 .. I know you want 4k, just leaving my suggestions =D Comes with Ghost Record Wildlands for free.

Asus PB287Q

Solid choice monitor there. You could also go the 1440p/144hz route, which would make for a better gaming experience imo. Nice resolution and better refresh rate. Granted that's mostly down to the person. Some prefer a better resolution, some a better refresh rate. Puts ya right in the middle of both tho :P

Check r/monitors also, they're pretty handy over there.

u/NotRoryWilliams · 1 pointr/Monitors

I see that has the same 250 brightness spec. In fact on paper it looks pretty equivalent except for the pivot mode, which I admit looks pretty appealing, but again I have to figure out whether it’s worth $130 more (I could probably get a better vesa desk mount for less than that).

Looks like Amazon has a 24” version of that LG for the same price as the 27 from Monoprice. LG 24UD58-B 24-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSync https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LPNKFK0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KYzfAbQW3F0NV I wish I could easily figure out whether those three inches matter. I believe the one I have at home is a 24”, but upon setting it up I discovered that 1080p (or maybe just this display, it is also a low-end LG that was around the same price a few years ago) is useless for document work in a display of that size.

u/krum · 1 pointr/WGU_CompSci

I know a lot of comments suggest a 1080p monitor, but while this is great for consumers and watching HD videos and maybe games, as a software developer you're going to want more vertical pixels I really recommend you go for a WUXGA (1920x1200) or QHD/WQHD which is basically 1440p. You'll also definitely want an IPS panel.

I'm using one of these for a second monitor:

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Computer-Ultrasharp-U2415-24-0-Inch/dp/B00NZTKOQI

IMO this monitor is the best value on the market today.

u/laydros · 1 pointr/buildapc

Generally:

  • IPS is best color, slowest refresh rate and response
  • TN is worst colors, cheapest to get high refresh rate/low response.
  • VA kinda sits in the middle

you can spend more and get an IPS that has better responsiveness, and a TN panel isn't always garbage. But these are the general trend.

I've seen VA used more on 4k than on 1080p or 1440p.

See if you can visit a friend or look in a store to make sure 144Hz is worth if for you. I think if you are really serious about FPS games if it's nice to have, but I think right now the community is making it seem more important than it really is.

I'm fairly certain that a 1ms response time vs a 4ms response time is not worth anything.

There are certainly some options around $200 for 1080p 144Hz. Just a few at random :

  • ViewSonic
  • Acer with FreeSync but only 75Hz

Here is the rtings guide to budget gaming displays

    Happy hunting
u/FW-190D-9 · 2 pointsr/badeconomics

Well I think there are two main questions, first of all what sort of display scaling do you plan on using on your OS and how close are you willing to sit to the monitor? From what you said I think that a 4k display would be best since you essentially get 4 1080p monitors right next to each other. The main downside is size, you can get a decent 24 inch 4k monitor for 280 bucks on Amazon, but 27 inch costs nearly 400 dollars and 30 inch or beyond would blow way past your budget. One easy solution to this is to simply sit closer to your monitor but that isn't always a good option ergonomically speaking. Personally I got a 4k 24 inch monitor and use it without any display scaling and I just sit really close to it. That gets me loads of space for multi-tasking and text at a competitive price.

Personally I don't there's any reason to buy a single 1080p monitor if you are going to be using it with your laptop since your laptop presumably already has a 1080p display and that just isn't enough pixels to keep lots of windows and text on the screen at once. You could get a new 1080p monitor in the low 20 inch range for 90 bucks. Getting two of those is probably the best bet for under 200 bucks.

You could also get one or two of these 24 inch 2k displays. However getting just one of them is probably on the small side of things and 2 would probably blow past your budget. Still if you get just 1 it's cheaper than any 4k display and if you get 2 its cheaper than any 30 inch 4k display.

Also don't get a TN display they are cheaper and have better response times (which only matters for gaming) but they have much worse colors and the viewing angles are bad as well. IPS based displays offer far superior colors and viewing angles which makes them preferable for productivity work.

144hz would be the best for you I think. Its a world of difference when playing shooters. If you go 1440p then your card would struggle with newer titles to even get 60 fps, but if you are already getting 200+ fps in the games you play then I think 144hz would be best.

This is the one I use. It needs some color calibration, but other than that, its definitely worth the money.

Keep in mind, this is pretty top end. It's overkill for those two games but will set you up nicely for pretty much any gaming you want to do.

You'll want to use DP for both, especially the 1440p144hz. I have a newer HDMI for my 4k60 monitor that can push the 60hz refresh rate. So that can work too. I think the newest HDMI can push 144hz but I could be mistaken. Regardless, go for DP.

Alright folks, MONITORS. 1080p, 23inch 17inch or up, £200 ish, framerate your call, What do i want? what would you get, and what should i get? any good reviews, or review sites for this kind of stuff?

It'll be my daily driver, so it will need to do 60Hz mode even if it does more casually, because its really hard to record more than 60fps, and i'll do that at some point.

currently i use a cheap LCD TV i got from ASDA (uk brand of Wallmart), but i'd like something more responsive than this seems to be (I don't think that would be that hard though to be fair)

Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 monitors? Other than the model number and the price, I can't really see any big differences:

ViewSonic XG2402

ViewSonic XG2401

When I google about them, it seems the biggest difference is that the 02 has a slightly better response time - but I have no idea if I will even notice that. Will I?

I don't competitive game whatsoever - mostly older stuff (e.g. I am looking forward to finally playing things like Bioshock Infinite and Witcher 1 this year...)

Was waiting for the 02 to go on sale again, but I'd rather not wait much longer.. and would love to save $60 by getting the 01 if I won't be unhappy with it.

https://www.amazon.ca/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV This is a really popular pick and fits under your budget. I actually have one, although it is now my second monitor. My main monitor is a 240hz panel.

The XG2402 is a TN panel, but it seems like you play competitive titles, so I think it is a good fit. There are some IPS panels, but they approach exceeding your budget.

u/Analbub · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The 1060 max-q isn't powerful enough for gaming at 1440p on any new or demanding game, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on upgrading in the future or plan on building a desktop at some point that is more powerful. Also if you primarily game I would recommend 144hz over 1440p. I would stick with either 1080p 60 hz or 1080p 144hz, but the 1060 probably won't be able to fully use that 144hz on most games. I have the msi gs65, which has 1060 max-q as well, and it has a 1080p 144hz panel in it, and I get 100 fps and above on less demanding games, but any AAA or graphically intensive game struggles to get above 60. My final thoughts before recommendations would be an ips or va panel over a tn, because the response time downgrade is (imo) worth it for the amazing color reproduction. Also at 144hz i find that g-sync and freesync are not that useful and find the additional price not worth it. If you are only gaming and doing competitive games then TN is fine though. Anyway, here are my recommendations

If you aren't into competitive games and want good colors for watching videos and/or photo editing:

1080p 60hz: Dell U2414H

1080p 144hz: Acer ED273

If you are into competitive gaming and want the fastest response time here are a few options:

AOC G2460PF

Viewsonic XG2402

Acer XFA240

https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UD58-B-27-Inch-Monitor-FreeSync/dp/B01IRQAYPE/ref=sr_1_3?crid=LSC7BJKUSZEC&keywords=27+inch+4k+monitor&qid=1556620049&s=electronics&sprefix=27+inch+4k+%2Celectronics%2C170&sr=1-3

These are all moderately priced monitors under $300. There might be better monitors and if you need specific functions they might not be " the best " but for the price I'm pretty confident they are passable unless what you will be using them for requires super low response times or 99.5% color accuracy etc.

the xg2401 can hit that price range. it's one of the best 144 hz monitors. i have the newer xg2402 where the main diff is the stand. faster melee feels even better than a crt on my xg2402, but it's prob placebo. having the option to play melee in 1080p is also really nice.

edit: here i found it on amazon. it seems to be on sale rn for $160

What resolution? 1080p? Then yes there is, try google.

1440p? Definitely not My monitor is the absolute cheapest I would reccomend.

Lastly, what games do you play? Unless you are playing super competitve games at a high level, 1440p 60hz would be better than 1080 144hz.

u/Satk0 · 1 pointr/Monitors

You're going to have a hard time finding a good selection. The 1920x1200 resolution is becoming increasingly rare.

That said, I have two Dell U2412M's I bought 2-3 years ago. I love them! They check every box in your requirements... but the problem is that newer versions of the monitor (Manufactured after like mid-2013) have a pretty strong yellow tinge to them. I wouldn't get a new one anymore.

You could try this year's model- it's more expensive and I can't vouch for it personally, but it seems to fit the bill.

Do you have an opinion on https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/social/swf/B01B9IDLAW/o=ShareProduct/ref=tsm_1_aw_swf_d_sp?vs=1

$250 right now for prime day. I feel like it may be a good compromise. Ultra wide for that experience in battlefield, but also 75hz with free sync. Since I doubt I will ever really be getting 144fps in a game like battlefield anyway without paying out the arse.

I feel like with this and a sapphire nitro 480 (for ~$500 total) I could probably play close to max and get 75fps. I know people rave about free sync and g-sync, so I wonder if I would notice/it be worth it.

u/070931 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I've been looking into some ultra wides and came to this sub to get a few questions answered if u guys don't mind.

  1. Is this monitor good for gaming and worth the price? LG 34UC79G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz Refresh Rate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1qzGzbTYYHQP1

  2. I've been reading about how YouTube content and some games are not supported with ultra wides. Is there any way to watch videos and play games with a true 21:9 aspect ratio?

  3. If not, would watching YouTube non-full screen be the equivalent of watching it in a 16:9 panel?

  4. Would playing games in windowed mode 1920x1080 be fine while gaming(over watch), would it be the same as 16:9 so the game wouldn't be zoomed in?

  5. Do all recent movies online support 21:9?

  6. Would u guys recommend 21:9 monitors, what are some good and bad qualities of these monitors?

    Thanks!
u/degnebbit · 1 pointr/Monitors

Lastly (sorry for all the replies) do you agree with Rtings that the LG 27UK series is superior to them all in value? https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UK650-W-Monitor-Adjustable-Stand/product-reviews/B078GRM2MV/ref=cm_cr_othr_d_show_all_btm?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews Looks like their main reason for supporting it in that Nvidia can support it.

u/xexiled · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Sorry for the long response time. IPS panels have better colors and viewing angles. TN panels on the other hand have higher refresh rates and response times.

You have to pick one or the other at this price range though. I however prefer TN panels because I like the smooth 144hz refresh rates and 1ms response times. You on the other hand might want the better colors.

Here are some IPS monitors that are recommended often.

u/BiggyStroh · 1 pointr/buildapc

Just checking the prices on Amazon I found:

AOC AGON AG241QX

Asus VG248QG

So it looks like the AOC has better specs and is cheaper, I would go with AOC. Never owned a monitor from either brand but I do hear lots of good things about AOC. I know Asus makes good PC parts but not sure on the monitors.

If you are worried about the 1070 not being able to push 1440p, then just run the monitor or that specific game in 1080p instead. Is this a waste? No, it's future proofing. You can run things at 1080p right now and then down the road sometime when you upgrade that 1070 to something better, you will already have the 1440p monitor to play on.

u/bonesda · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Sadly r/monitors does not provide console gamers much love sometimes, but as I've now done the research to be at least a little knowledgeable I'll share what I know.

So the short answer to your question is what you're looking for does not exist in your price range. This is because what you're looking for is a 4k monitor with true HDR at 60 Hz. Those run in the $600-$800 USD range.

The good news is that if you're willing to make a few sacrifices then you may be able to find something.

A bit of knowledge for you, consoles wont output anything over 60Hz so getting a 144Hz monitor is useless. That saves you some money.

Sadly the monitors with "fake" HDR are out of our price range (I've been looking for three months for the same thing you're seeking). Those run $450-$500.

So were left with a 4k monitor running at 60 Hz. I'll link what I've found in our price range. That seem to be worth anything.

  1. ASUS VP28UQG 28 in monitor. Current Amazon price $329.99:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PK4R2H/?coliid=I2JFHR2Q0IYGDM&colid=257OK8USMTMG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

  2. LG 27UD58-B 27-Inch Monitor. Current Amazon price $297.94:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IRQAYPE/?coliid=I3RNZKMRJCXRLS&colid=257OK8USMTMG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The ASUS monitor is a TN monitor so the colors will not be as vibrant but the performance will be better which is what you're looking for in FPS games. The LG is an IPS monitor so it'll have the opposite.

I will be getting the ASUS. Having missed my opportunity earlier this week, I'm waiting to see if Monday brings the price down below the $300 USD price hold again.

I hope this information helps. If something I've said is wrong, hopefully someone will speak up and correct me, but from what I've found, it is accurate.

Sure a great option to consider is the LG 34UC79G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz Refresh Rate .The FreeSync that comes with it allows you to experience seamless, fluid movement throughout hi-res, fast-paced games. FreeSync nearly eliminates tearing and stuttering that can occur because of differences between a graphic card’s frame rate and a monitor’s refresh rate. Also it has a game mode for optimal gaming conditions. There are 3 modes, 2 First-Person-Shooter modes and a RTS pre-set mode so you can choose the best mode for your games and the IPS display would be great for photography

If you're not too picky with color / panel type, the AOC AG241QX is on sale for $200 right now on Amazon. I had it for a short amount of time before deciding to spend the extra $100 on a Dell S2719DGF but it was a nice monitor for competitive FPS gaming, and if I had to go back to it I wouldn't be upset. Quality is crisp, I didn't see any dead pixels.

EDIT: Forgot to note that the monitor is 24", so if you're setting the monitor pretty far from your face it'll be worth waiting for a sale on a 27" 1440p144

New Monitor Time!

$600

A year or more ago I did a build with a GTX 770 card here and everyone was very helpful, thanks again. I finally am getting around to upgrading my way old Dell 21" god knows what model LCD.

I'm tempted to go with the new Dell U2715H. From googling around I believe at 2560x1440 pixels I'll probably be pushing the single 770 I have while gaming pretty hard and need to drop some settings or the resolution. I don't feel the need to max everything out all the time so dropping some settings here or there isn't a big concern for me. I'm willing to spend ~$600.

The new Dell U2715H looks particularly attractive as I loath glossy screens and word has it the U2715H does a good job bridging the gap between glossy and matte.

Beyond gaming I do some photo / video editing.

I've been a bit out of the monitor tech / news for a while now so I'm just coming up to speed. Any other monitors / factors I should consider?

u/Blais_Of_Glory · 1 pointr/laptops

If you're a gamer, you're better off with a TN display. If you're working with graphics and want better color, you're better off with IPS. All my monitors and displays on my laptops are TN, including my $700 Asus PG278QR 27" 2560x1440 165Hz G-Sync monitor, and they all look great. If you're on a budget, you're most likely going to get a TN display and there's nothing wrong with that.

u/AmdahlCube · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

I just put some monitor recs into the tool, and I'm going to post an update to all this next week taking into account what we know about Xbox One X now.

I've got a 1440p144, G-Sync monitor. It's freaking amazing - ROG Swift PG278Q. Unfortunately, it runs about $750, so it's like spending on a system itself. If you're just looking for a 1440p60 monitor, the Asus PB278Q is great and comes in at $380.

Right now, though, the 4K monitors are in pricing freefall. The LGUD58-B is only $313, and it comes with FreeSync. That's less than some of the cheapest 1080p144 monitors with G-Sync, like the Acer XB241H at $370.

For 1080p60, the Asus VS238H-P is a solid starter at $120. If you move up to 1080p144, the Asus VG248QE is the one that looked the best at $255.

Edit: it's still early on HDR. It's currently only available on top of the line systems but there's no technical reason it won't filter down lower. I probably wouldn't invest $400+ right now until the monitors support HDR but the monitors out there are still going to look and perform great.

Check out some of the new 4k monitors. Samsung, asus, and acer each have one that are cheaper, have more pixels, better response times, and still run at 60 hz. Only down side is most are TN so the colors are a little washed out, but totally worth it. I got mine for 350 on cyber Monday.

But once done it's really decent for sub 200. Also if you get it from Costco even better. Cause if you decide you don't like it or find a better one later Costcos return policy is amazing.

I got a 27” 240hz Monitor but it might not be for everyone. Most pros play on 24”. I would recommend something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GD7H18F?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

24”, 144hz, 1ms response time, free sync & VA panel and less than $150 at the time of writing this.

u/Thermoelectric · 1 pointr/buildapc

Technically, with this build your best monitor would be something like an Acer Predator XB271HU, but that depends on the settings you desire, considering you would be trying to run at 144 hz at 1440, which from what other threads have said would be difficult for a 1070. In any case, cheapest I could find was https://www.amazon.com/AOC-AG241QX-Gaming-Monitor-2560x1440/dp/B01NCTHS6E/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1497957024&sr=1-1&keywords=1440+144+hz on amazon, which sacrifices gsync capability and monitor size (this is only 24 inches). In all honesty, I would just go with a 1080 monitor and aim for gsync or if you're on a budget and have some time to wait, go for an AMD card and get a cheaper free sync monitor.

u/jamesgangnam · 0 pointsr/Monitors

this, this, or this would do really nicely. The important thing is that it's an ips panel, meaning colors will look really vibrant and great. If you're not going to be using a mouse, you really don't have to worry about response time.

I'm needing to update my two monitors to 4K ones for this new system. What I've used for quite a while is a 27" primary monitor and a 24" secondary monitor to it's left. I decided to replace the secondary with something not outrageously expensive and I wanted it to be the same size. I found this:

LG 24UD58-B 24-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSync

Now naturally, I wish it had G-Sync instead of FreeSync since I'm getting an Nvidia card. But since it's just my secondary monitor and unlikely to ever be involved in gaming, I wasn't too worried about it.

I just thought I'd see if anyone here thinks there's some compelling reason to do something different. It was 24" and 4K... not crazy pricey... seemed like a good replacement for my 24" 1080p monitor I've had for a long time.

Would love feedback.

u/Cokadoge · 2 pointsr/PUBATTLEGROUNDS

If you have an OC'd i7 or R5/7 and you're fine at 1080p, a 240 Hz monitor might be good just "for gaming." Considering as of right now nobody can really achieve 160+ FPS in PUBG with any setup, it's not a good fit for it. I'd recommend a 1440p 144 Hz panel as many other people have said. Preferably with G-Sync because you have an Nvidia card. The ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR is pretty good. There's also an Acer Predator XB271HU which is pretty much the same specs.

I’m looking to setup 4 monitors in a 3+1 configuration. Question is whether I should invest in a 3+1 mounting stand OR a single-arm stand to support the monitor that sits above the middle monitor.

The 4 monitors I’m using are all different in width, resolution and weight, which also complicates things. Here they are:

  • My center monitor is 24” wide and 15” tall and has 100x100mm mounting holes. It weighs ~14lbs.
  • The monitor that I plan to have sit above my center monitor is Samsung, only 19” wide and weighs somewhere between ~10lbs to ~14lbs (Amazon and CNET disagree). Notably it only has 75x75mm mounting holes.
  • My right monitor is also Samsung, 22” wide and weighs around ~12lbs. It has 100x100mm mounting holes.
  • My left monitor is ASUS, 23.6” and weighs around ~10lbs with 100x100mm mounting holes.

Because my top monitor has different mounting holes (75x75mm), does that make things more difficult if I were to get a 3+1 stand? Will some or all stands support the weight of all of these (most importantly the one on top)? Which is better if all my monitors are different widths, a 4 monitor stand or a single arm stand? Is it practical to have a stand for just one monitor sit above the middle monitor? Does it mean anything that all my monitors are different widths?

    Appreciate any and all help!

A VA CF24G73 is around £250. same panel as the G24C with QD LEDs for a wider colour gamut.

VA offers better contrast, better colour reproduction and wider viewing angles than TN monitors at the cost of slower response times and a small hit to the clarity of text. I would go VA, but there is a range of TN monitors which outstrip the ageing VG248QE.

I like the smaller size since it's better for competitive play. The DPI increase over 1080p makes a big difference for screen real estate. I have nothing but good things to say about that monitor. Color reproduction is surprisingly good for a TN panel. I can play for long periods of time without a headache. It's pricey but I don't regret buying it at all.

Edit: It's the 23.6 inch 2560x1400 TN display with G-Sync.

Hello OP. I've thoroughly read your request and provided a build that I think would be suitable.

I imagine you'll be decommissioning your old mac and want to relocate all the drives. I made sure the motherboard/case can support up to 8 SATA drives at once. This way you can move over as many hard drives/SSDs as you'd like. As a result of this I have omitted a SSD, however if you need to add one I would recommend: ADATA Ultimare SU800.

I also omitted the 4k monitor, since my monitor knowledge is limited, however I would recommend the following as an entry level 4k monitor: LG 27UD58-B 27" 4K UHD IPS Monitor.

A VR build doesn't have to be stupid expensive anymore. Just keep in mind that no matter what you buy is going to replaced with bigger and better parts in a year or two. It's just how pc building works. Doesn't mean what you build will become shitty though. I'm a big fan of setting myself a budget and staying well below it. I prefer to keep my extra money in my pocket, but that's just me. I honestly think a 1080 or 1080TI is overkill unless you want to do some 4k gaming, but then that requires a 4k monitor. Not worth it if you're building a VR rig. Just my opinion.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF240H-bmjdpr-24-inch-FreeSync/dp/B01DHTWZRQ - right now, you can't beat that value

The viewsonic xg2401 but you can't get a new one for less than $260.

$70 less For a monitor that is nearly as good is a great deal - people seem to enjoy having it from the reviews.

Outside of shitty colors out of the box, people have posted screen adjustments to get the colors pretty decent.

u/K-J-V · 4 pointsr/battlestations

That’s actually a pretty good build for less than 500, nice ingenuity! I’ll edit this in a second when I find the monitor I’m thinking of but it’s sub 100 and has amazing value!

Acer XF240H if 200 is the limit. This monitor doesn't have many thorough reviews, but the image quality will most likely similar to others in this price range. Tolerable.

Another option is the AOC G2460PF if it comes back in stock. Again, probably the same subpar image quality as the previous one.

By far the best in this range would be the $260 Viewsonic XG2401 which, for a TN panel, probably has the best image quality/colors in this class.

Core i7s with 16 gigs of RAM, according to the setup guy working for the company that ran the rigs.

You really don't need to lecture me about how PC parts work, it's literally what I do for a living. The reason I mentioned the 980 Ti is because a) it's germane to an actual, known setup used by the Forza engine, and b) the performance of that GPU is extremely close to Scorpio's capability according to Microsoft and multiple other reported sources working on the system. Whether it's AMD or NVIDIA is functionally irrelevant - if anything, an integrated solution at the same performance point is more likely to meet the 2160p/60fps threshold since Turn 10 is optimizing down to the bare metal of a single hardware configuration. As a general rule of thumb (based on performance between Motorsport and Horizon 1 on 360, and the united Forza Engine between Motorsport 5/6 and Horizon 2/3 on X1), you'll optimally get 60 fps on Motorsport and 30 on Horizon - they halve the framerate to double the rendering window so they can effectively stream all the additional open-world assets (like textures and free-roaming drivatars). If we were talking about jumping Horizon to 2160p/60fps, there'd be a valid discussion here, but we're not. They've already proven they can hit a baseline of 60fps in Motorsport on the same hardware that Horizon is doing 30. That's why I mentioned the 980 Ti.

4K monitors do not cost $2000. You can get a 60hz one right now for $400. Here's a brand new one from CES 2017 for $1000 that includes HDR over HDMI (a first for monitors!). The only one that's projected to hit $2000 is the 2160p/144hz/G-Sync/HDR-over-DisplayPort AU Optronics panel, which is chock full of features that are unnecessary for consoles. And by the way, 2160p gaming looks pretty damn amazing.

Great price and 1440p/144Hz and a awesome freesync range from 30-144Hz

u/PalebloodSky · 2 pointsr/nvidia

144Hz is game changing, it's so much smoother and more responsive, definitely go with that. You can do 144fps with the right CPU and that 1060 if it's games like Overwatch, CSGO, Dota, LoL, etc. If you're playing more demanding games like PUBG, Apex, Battlefield, etc. then make sure you have a fast CPU too, something like an i5-9600K.

1080p, 144Hz, G-sync for $199:

I just purchased an RTX 2060, and am looking to replace my monitor to get a bit more out of it. I'm (ideally) hoping to find a 1080p monitor, 144hz refresh rate, g-sync/g-sync compatible, between 21" and 25" (ish), and with thin bezels, at or under $200.

This is currently my benchmark. That monitor is everything I'm looking for, I'm just a little hesitant to buy it due to a lot of the reviews saying that the color calibration is garbage. I am willing to sacrifice the frameless design for a better quality picture, but if I don't have to do that I would be a very happy camper. Any pointers/recommendations would be appreciated!

u/AR-47 · 5 pointsr/buildapc

I run triple 1080p with a single R9 290. Most people insist that this resolution is too high for a single card. And if you look at all the benchmarks, it is. But the big thing about benchmarks is that they only run the most demanding games on max settings. With most games the difference between 25 fps and 55 fps is no AA and medium settings instead of ultra. If Crysis 3 and DayZ are your favorite games, you're probably gonna have a bad time. But if you like to play Call of Duty and Battlefield, you should be able to get by just fine.

Closing statements: I honestly wouldn't recommend a triple monitor setup unless it really enhances the games you play. I only have my setup for iRacing and Assetto Corsa. Triple monitors make a world of difference in racing games. For shooting games, I don't even bother with eyefinity. 90% of people are much better off getting a single really good monitor than three okay monitors. I would highly recommend you look at this monitor or this monitor or this monitor before you jump into a triple 1440p setup.

If you still decide a triple setup is right for you, I would recommend no less than two R9 290's or two R9 290X's to power it.

The Viewsonic XG2402 and this BenQ Zowie Monitor are the same price. For the most part they seem like the same thing. Reviews seem pretty good for both of them. Any I always hear people raving about BenQ monitors. Any thoughts?

Monitor! I just got this one:

It’s already improved my game thanks to how fluid everything feels and looks. I had an old samsung monitor before this that was like a 20ms response time but never maintained a true 60Hz refresh rate. Now I find myself hitting great flicks and tracking is easier, too.

u/SpiderManDS23 · 2 pointsr/Xbox_One_X

Of course not, happy to help. No way, i would not get that. I think your too focused on size and making this a replacement for your tv. There are many other things to consider when choosing a monitor such as hz, panel type, response time, input lag and resolution.

For Xbox One X, yes 4K 60HZ is a must if you want to get the value out of it, huge impact for sure.

I would go with an IPS panel for better colors and viewing angles with a response time not more than 5ms and input lag maxed at 10ms.

This will be great. Has freesync too!

I'm not OP, but I got the same monitor about 2-3 weeks ago. I paid $590 through a 3rd party on Amazon, but for Prime Day it was $499 directly from Amazon.

The lowest price is $590 3rd party now again. I'm not too bothered that I paid $40, I love it.

Great for games, especially FPS, love the ultrawide, the 144 hz. The only backdraw is really bad backlight leakage which bothers me because I watch a lot of movies on it. It's not an issue in any game except Resident Evil and other dark games.

I purchased one of these back in 2013: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009H0XQQY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Searching Dell monitors, I believe the Dell Ultrasharp line have the best color reproduction as well as they come calibrated from the factory. I purchased all my monitors open box or slightly used for a huge discount. Just make sure you can easily return the item if you aren't totally satisfied.

Acer predator modules are incredibly good and are focused on gaming

ASUS/BenQ/LG all make very good monitors as well especially for 1080p

It is all about how much you are willing to spend, cheaper ones will have either smaller screen size or less configurations while the more expensive ones will have everything

I think 16GB should be good enough for all the work you have. Again, if budget is not a constraint, go for the bigger one. Have you thought of buying Apple refurbished products? It's a really good option. They're basically the same thing at discounted prices and warranty. I bought a refurb as well. Link here

The money you save here can be put on AppleCare or an external monitor. And don't buy 4K...it isn't necessary. I've been using a 27" Dell UltraSharp U2715H since 2016 and it still performs flawlessly.

u/Carstellz · 4 pointsr/blackdesertonline

I would say that these 3 monitors are some of the best, if not the best that you could buy for 1080P gaming @144hz. I have owned all 3, and even used them back when I still had a GTX 1080 like you have. If you are on a budget, I would go with the Acer. If you have the money to spend and want an overall better monitor, then the Asus is the way to go. Not really a reason to buy the Zowie anymore IMO, for the price you might as well just spend a bit more and get the Asus (when I bought my Zowie, that current Asus model was not available). And trust me, you will not have a great overall experience playing 1440P BDO with a GTX 1080. Maybe if you have a 9th gen CPU it could be a little better. I have a GTX 2080 TI and I7 7700k and I can't pull 144fps/144hz in many places, especially not in NW/anything more than smallscale PVP.
