I love making my eggs with this in the microwave:

  • Crack an egg into each of the four wells
  • Pierce the yolks (otherwise they can explode)
  • 2 minutes @ 80% power gives me soft boiled eggs with soft yolks. Another 15 seconds for hard yolks. Can't really do runny yolks, though. Any less time in the microwave and the whites are still runny.

Very quick. And NO PEELING necessary! For me, the only drawback is that they can't be used for deviled eggs because of their shape. But I like to slide them out onto a plate, salt and pepper them, and then put a quarter slice of cheese on top of each egg to melt while I rinse off the mold. They're also great for egg salad (or similar recipes with chopped hard-boiled eggs). The softer yolk eggs are wonderful on cabbage Alfredo, with some bacon bits or pepperoni chips (just 20 seconds in the microwave).

Intermittent fasting has worked pretty well for me as long as my diet has been super high-fat or full-blown keto. If it isn’t fat heavy then I just get too hungry/irritable too fast to maintain it.

If you eat out one meal a day and make it a steak or a fish entree with lots of butter and a low carb veg, then supplement with some preplanned snacks or meals the rest of the day, you could pull it off!

Most hotels will have a mini fridge and a microwave, right? Plus you can totally bring a can opener with you. So you can keep eggs, avocados, peanut butter, canned tuna (in oil rather than water), and some fresh low carb veggies on hand. You could potentially bring one of these on tour with you (it’s quite small), so you can make and eat hard boiled eggs with butter or oil. You can get MCT oil and coconut oil and full fat coconut milk to mix into your coffee - that’ll definitely help sustain you. You can use lettuce as cups/wraps to put canned tuna with lotsa mayo and avocado. I can also suggest a keto oatmeal recipe I’m obsessed with that you could pre-mix the dry ingredients for in sandwich baggies, pull out at your hotel to put in a bowl with coconut milk and peanut butter, then microwave. It’s sooo filling and keeps you full for so long - and tons of fibre.

I really think there’s plenty you can do with all these restrictions, you just have to put in a ton of work to research and plan, plan, plan.

Hmm I can't seem to find the exact brand I have, but I did find this which is pretty much the same idea.

Avocado toast with a poached egg on top. I also slice cilantro and green onion for it.. makes the flavor WAY better.

And if you suck at poaching eggs like I do, these have been life-altering.

Bread-shaped egg shaper. It makes eggs...shaped like bread!

The key is to not let the water get to a boil. Drop the egg in from a ramekin just at the point you see bubbles forming on the bottom of the pot. Regulate the heat so that the water temp is kept just right before the boiling point but the bubbles never break the surface of the water.

Alternatively, braise your eggs in a pan like this:

Or do them sous vide.

Probably something along these lines

Especially likely since Vollrath is a restaurant supply brand. Basically they steam them in little cups. There are smaller at home versions for like 4 or 5 eggs at a time.

u/nobogui · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I have these and they work well. Use them on my griddle and in my pan all the time.

You can also search Amazon for 'poach pods' - they're usually silicone and can be lifted out with your fingers. Example

Nice. Silicone trivets (the thing you put under a hot pan or pot to protect a table or counter -- look in the kitchen section) frequently have a workable pattern. Holes in right places, flexible, and durable as hell. [Five] bucks and a couple of belts or scarves, and you get to smile inside as your uptight sister-in-law asks you to pass the mashed potatoes.

At least the input is liquid and the output is solid. My parents had this "Egg Cuber" in their kitchen gadget drawer when I was growing up. You put in a cooked hard boiled egg and you get a cube shaped hard boiled egg.

You’ll never go back. I’ve tried every “easy poach” gadget under the sun, these are the only ones that actually fucking work.

Could also see it at Amazon

Why wouldn't you use a Poached Egg Pan? Mine does six at a time.

Apparently egg molds are a thing. Check out the "frequently bought together" section of this page.

I normally break the egg into a small bowl.

Then slowly lower it into a pan of boiling water.

The white just all over. If I try to add another egg to it, then its an even bigger mess.

I've tried doing the vortex thing and adding vinegar - its just a mess and a waste of food!

I need a way to keep the egg white together.

Something like this looks like it would work, but has anyone tried one:

Not great reviews though!

u/Ereshkigal234 · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

oddly enough egg poachers apparently i suck at making them even though the man creature always eats them.. every time i go to the grocery store he starts looking in the kitchen stuff.. "whatcha looking for?" "egg poachers".. i generally take this as a sign..

and all the porn.. i mean.. my kind of porn.. Justified, Heartbreak Ridge and Supernatural..

u/sarcelle · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I buy stupid, stupid things on the internet. Which is why I own an egg cuber, an assortment of wigs, and some Gameboy Color games for the Gameboy I don't have.

u/VicinSea · 1 pointr/Cooking

$299.95 for a fryer?? Dang! It really does cost more to eat healthy! I will have to stick to oven frying until I find one of these at a thrift store.

Edit: After reading the reviews, I will guess that these are not sturdy enough to make it to thrift stores. From the comments, there is a problem with the lid--combination of "Not dishwasher safe" and "Cracked from the heat of the lower pan." Also parts of the machine seem to be very hard to clean. I expect these will get tossed away when they show up to a thrift store dirty and broken.

If you're lazy, don't have the time to cook, don't have the space to prep, on a budget, or simply don't have access to a stove. Check out these cheap buys to make daily meal prepping much faster/easier. (Note: you can get stuff like this at Walmart and Target, too).

Posted this fish/meat/veggie steamer earlier this week in a DD

Completely worth buying. Shits changed my meal prep completely. Would highly recommend. Microwave two 4-5oz chicken breast filets in 5min flat. If you're afraid of bland chicken, buy a tray pack on the weekend, filet/butterfly them, throw them in a Ziploc bag with marinade. Then all you have to do is pull them out of the bag, throw them on the steamer, throw that bitch in the microwave for a bit, and done. It can also steam veggies and small potatoes.

This egg cooker

Hate boiling eggs because it takes too long? Gotta wait for the water to boil, then put the eggs in, then wait for them to boil, then cooldown. Etc etc. This is the shit for you. 6 Hardboiled eggs in minutes while microwaving your chicken/veggies. No cleanup required. Breakfast made in minutes.

Rice Cooker

Personally, I love rice, because I'm Asian. Also because it can be tasty as fuck. What I hate about rice, though, is how long it takes to cook in an electric cooker. I don't have 3hrs to wait for rice to cook, nor do I want my rice to sit in a cooker for 10-12hrs before I get to serve it (setting it in the morning, getting to it at night). But this shit here? Cooks in minutes. Fresh rice every day. Throw some salt and/or a little bit of butter (spray butter works for even distribution) for a bit of taste.

Meal prep should take less than 30min a night for 4-5 meals a day with minimal cleanup. Fresh food made every night. Simple enough that Helen Keller with a nub for an arm could've done it. You have no reason to have a fucked up diet now.
