omg!! toners = life for me
I once was a dehydrated, overexfoliated mess. I started using every moisturizing product under the sun and my skin loved it. I repaired my moisture barrier and everything was great. Until it wasnt. Suddenly every cream or serum made my skin clogged and breakout. Even the same exact products my skin once loved. I was so sad. I loved my multi step routine and suddenly anything beyond just cleansing and toning (western toners) made me break out.

Then I came here and asked for help and ta-daa!! I was introduced to the world of AB toners. Yesssss my multi step routine has been back in full swing ever since and consists almost entirely of toners.

So without further ado (sorry, these are not all AB but I wanted to include everything)

Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence Watery texture. I love this product. At first, I was unsure it was doing anything. I was only using it once a day and didnt notice much. Until I stopped using it and noticed that not only did I lose a certain glow in my skin, but also my following products didnt absorb the same way. I now use it twice a day and love it.

Hada Labo Gokujun Moist Thin serum texture. Really good product. Its kinda thick for my skin (again, my skin will clog up really easily from too heavy of product) so I cant use it everyday, but if I am extra dry for some reason or accidentally overdo it with actives, this will resolve my issues literally overnight. Always good to have around. Considering trying the light version.

SAEM Urban Eco Harakeke Light gel texture. OMG my favorite toner. It has the most amazing herbal smell, makes my skin feel refreshed and plump but not sticky. Calms any redness or irritation. So nice, I use this twice a day.

Thayers Witch Hazel Cucumber Watery texture. I know this is a western toner and a lot of people have VERY mixed reviews on it. But for my oily skin, it is awesome. Keeps my oil in check, and the cucumber is so refreshing and calms redness and breakouts. I would not however recommend this for dry skinned folks.

Caudalie Vinoperfect concentrated brightening essence Watery texture. Another one of my all time faves. This is an "exfoliating" type, as it contains glycolic and lactic acids. But it is suuuper gentle. Keeps my skin texture balanced and bright. My skin responds very well to this product. I use it on off days of when I use my stridex, just in case (I dont want to go back to that over exfoliated life)

Pyunkang Yul Essence Thin serum texture. I see this one getting a lot of love here and Im so glad because this stuff is definitely awesome. Makes my skin feel hydrated, has a short list of ingredients and gives my skin a certain kind of bounce. Love this one.

Whamisa Green Tea Serum Toner Serum-ish consistency. OMG loooove this toner. It contains alcohol so I would probably not recommend it for dryer skin. But again, me and my oilyness love it. Its soothing, hydrating, feels great, dries well, and my skin was responding so well to it that I upped it from once a day to twice a day and have had great results.

Toners on my wish list:
Secret Key Milk
Want so badly to venture into the Sulwhasoo life but muh goodness they are expensive and The Balancing Water Ex that is highly recommended has a lot of the same ingredients I am getting elsewhere in my routine. Eh, someday.

Lastly, here is a thread I posted last week asking for thoughts on some of the more expensive toners. With my love of toners, I was curious to hear experiences as to whether the prices are worth it or not.

Happy toning!

So I have a few suggestions, because my skin used to be exactly like yours. I realized that after getting my basic skincare routine down that my skin isn't actually oily, it was just the products I use (which may be a different scenario for you) but I do have to take a lot of measures to combat my dehydrated skin. I also have redness that once required full-coverage foundation and now I wear tinted moisturizer to just even out my super mild redness. This is my routine:

AM:

Mario Badescu Keratoplast Cream Soap. This is less of a true cleanser in the way that it won't really work at removing makeup, but it is really fantastic at soothing redness/any irritation and making my skin feel super soft.

I then use Etude House 10-in-1 House Wonder Pore Freshener. This is a new addition that I really like for sebum control and pores. Not a neccessity for you it seems like, but I figured I'd suggest it. It's a toner. I find it actually works for me, when in in the past I'd use a toner and be like ok..... this is doing nothing, lol.

Then I use Nature Republic New Soothing Moisture Aloe Vear GEL 92% moisturizer. LOVE this for soothing redness and providing some serious hydration! I was really worried about this being sticky, especially because I have an aversion to textures sometimes, but I actually really like this. I know a lot of people say you shouldn't use stuff from jars, but I find that as long as I continue to see results, the jar continues to work for me. I just switched to this from the Clinique gel moisturizer and not only is the price decrease amazing, but I saw/felt results so quickly!!

For days that I know I need extra hydration in the AM (i.e., winter), I use Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion prior to my moisturizer.

Last morning step is sunscreen - I just switched from a western sunscreen to Missha All-around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel Spf30/pa++ and I really like it, and that'll help your redness, too.

PM:
Cleanse with First Aid Beauty cleanser. I really like this, but I find it to be on-par with most cleansers, although this is gentler for sensitive skin.

Every other day: Too Cool for School Egg Mouse Pack. LOVE THIS. Improves brightness/radiance and gives hydration.

After I get out of the shower, I use the toner I mentioned above.

Cosrx BHA. Some say it reduced their redness, but I found it just helped with sebum/blackheads. I like Stridex better as a BHA, honestly.

I use the Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion every night, and follow with my moisturizer I mentioned above. I'm currently searching for a good night cream, I used Eucerin anti-redness prior and I didn't like it very much.

Throughout the week, I'll use the First Aid Beauty
Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay
, which I really like, but since you're on a budget I'd say it could wait. I find it reduces redness but works best for blemish control. I also use Tony Moly sheet masks, particularly ones that combat redness/dehydration.

Overall, if you could only afford 1/2 products, I would most recommend the Mario Badescu and the moisturizer I mentioned - but I also would highly recommend the Hado Labo lotion regardless due to your severe dehydeation.

From left to right:
TonyMoly MasterLAB Intensive Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Sheet Mask - $2.80
I tried some really really cheapie HA masks and it made my face feel amazing so I definitely wanted to grab some nicer ones and see if there was a difference. I'm definitely considering adding HA itself into my routine.

TonyMoly I'm REAL Red Wine Mask Sheet Pore Care - $2.62
Oh, my pores and I, the endless struggle. I'll always look for something to subdue you.

Botanics Hydration Burst Hydrating Day Cream - 15.99
I'm currently ONLY doing a PM routine, with facial oils, but I'd like to start doing a morning routine and was looking for a little faster absorption.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater (2oz) - $5
Because my only current moisturizers are oil based, and I'm hoping to add HA in some form or fashion to my routine, I wanted something to help the HA from the masks and whatever future products I added (Currently have TO Mandelic Acid 10% with HA, waiting to add it into the routine) really be effective.

Botanics Organic Softening Cleanser - $10.99
Oh boy am I excited about this, and this is the kind of product I went in looking for. I started my skincare journey using the Pixi Double Cleanse which is a fantastic product my skin loved...except they run out fast and the two products don't run out at the same rate. I'd have happily bought the cream cleanser if they sold it separately, which they don't, so I was asking for a couple of days in the daily help thread for any kind of similar product. The only suggestion was La Roche-Posay Toleriane Gentle Hydrating Cleanser which I got...which then dried out my face and wrecked my moisture barrier so bad it went from drinking in several layers of oil in an hour, to being unable to absorb one in 5. I'm still working on the backlash from that but I am well and truly out of the Pixi now so I had to find a reaplcement cleanser today. I'm really hoping this will do the trick, and I will, of course, report back. I've already tested the PH and it looks to be a solid 5.5.

All from Ulta, in total: $48.56

My skin: Pores galore. Oily when untouched, but dehydrated and dries at the mere mention of a foaming cleanser. Very sensitive to drying but ok with fragrances.
My current routine:
Banila Clean It Zero Sherbert Cleanser
(Second Cleanser was Pixi Double Cleanse Cream, replacing tonight with Botanics Organic Softening Cleanser)
Pixi Glow Tonic (When it's safe to add, will be replaced with The Ordinary 10% Mandelic Acid + HA)
The Ordinary 100% Plant Derived Squalane
[The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil]
Once a week: Aztec Secret + Braggs ACV clay mask (skipped last week due to compromised moisture barrier)

I would like to note - I am especially interested to hear from anyone who uses more natural brands, Burts Bees, Botanics, Shea Moisture, etc. I find the less crazy chemicals and the more natural stuff is easier to pinpoint when my face eventually freaks out.

Sorry in advance for the length of my comment but speaking from personal experience, your acne could be caused by fungus/yeast, not bacteria. It's called Malassezia Yeast and we all have it on our skin, but it can cause issues when it becomes overgrown. This overgrowth is called Pityrosporum folliculitis and looks almost identical to other forms of acne.

Other evidence that points towards fungus is the fact that you're breaking out on other parts of your body. The fungus spreads easily, especially if you give it a nice environment to thrive, like sweaty workouts!

I had perfect skin until I was about 22, and suddenly developed acne on my face, chest, and back. It was so bizarre and none of the traditional acne treatments were helping because, as I later figured out, most products are geared towards bacterial breakouts, including benzoyl peroxide. In fact, overuse of these products can cause fungus/yeast to take over the balance and cause all sorts of issues!

So, after months of research I came to the conclusion that I did indeed have fungal acne, so I started a routine to combat it. I was desperate at first, so I bought an anti-dandruff shampoo (because dandruff is commonly caused by fungus). [This one is great because its SLS free!]
(https://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Shampoo-Treatment-Supports-Growth/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485317432&sr=8-1&keywords=dr.+regenepure) In the shower, I slathered it all all over my face and body, let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinsed it off. All of the breakouts started disappearing overnight, literally.

I felt strange using shampoo on my face so I decided to do more research and discovered that zinc is an amazing natural antifungal. So, I purchased this bar of soap, which contains 2% Pyrithione Zinc (an antimicrobial) and it was also very effective. I only use that about every three days now, and only on my body, because I have super sensitive skin and it is too drying for my face.

For my face, I now use Curology because they offer Zinc Pyrithione as an ingredient! My current formulation is .25% Zinc Pyrithione, 1% Clindamycin, and 4% Niacinamide and it is AMAZING. I'm now free of any and all breakouts.

I also use this mineral sunscreen because it uses zinc oxide - another form of zinc that is an antifungal!

For me, I have to maintain a routine or else the overgrowth returns, so I also take zinc picolinate supplements.
So, yeah, I hope this helps give some insight on your skincare journey!!

*EDIT!

I also want to point out the necessity of being super gentle on your skin, in general. I always think "kill it with kindness" when it comes to skin issues. You definitely don't want to make things worse by over-exfoliating (chemical and physical), using harsh cleansers that strip your natural oils, and above all you must keep your moisture barrier in tip top shape because it will protect you from excess fungus and bacteria!

I decided to give you my whole routine as an example, so here it is! I focus on moisture.

I've had horrible skin for 15 years. I finally started systematically testing any products I could think of, because I'm too stubborn to see a dermatologist (and also didn't have health insurance), but mostly because if something isn't killing me, I'd rather solve it on my own.

For overall acne (blackheads, pimples, red spots after a pimple has cleared up)

  • Obagi Clenziderm System - this is the only over the counter product I have used that has completely gotten rid of my acne
  • I used to use retin-a when I was younger, made my skin amazing in every way possible. You can get 1% tetrinoid cream over the counter on amazon, for stronger stuff see a dermatologist.

For scarring, large pores, and other long term skin solutions :

  • Olay's microdermabrasion kit makes my skin supple and soft, definitely has been improving overall quality of my skin
  • Cellbone's prep, neutralizer, and glycolactic peels are helping greatly with the acne scarring, blackheads, and give my skin a beautiful glow

    For moisturizing :

  • I love Philosophy's Hope in a Jar, and for reducing appearance of pores and softening fine lines and wrinkles - The Supernatural. I've only started using Philosophy products but they are freaking amazing so far.

I have not been able to find any scrubs that reduce the appearance of pores though. I think pores are generally a longer term condition, you can reduce them temporarily with toners or acidic scrubs, but the acid peels tend to have a longer lasting effect since they increase the rate of skin turn-over. Hope that helps.

Also, if you are not familar with acid peels, I'd recommend getting one or two done in a spa first, so you know how your skin reacts. After that, they really are not that hard to do on your own, as long as you have something basic to neutralize the acid. Also, start with using them for like a minute the first time, and slowly work your way up. It's much easier to deal with an under-peeled face than an over-peeled one.

Also - most importantly, drink lots of water, eat lots of vegetables and fruit, exercise, and get good sleep. You can't expect your skin to look amazing without taking care of your overall body first.

I would definitely recommend an aha and /or a bha. Salicylic acid goes down into pores and helps remove dead skin cells. Glycolic and lactic acid help remove dead skin cells on the surface.
I really like corsx bha because it's gentle and effective. It has a thicker texture and it is moisturizing. I just pump it into my hands and tap on. COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073P6ZQ4V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4GYoDbG9RWHQ4 Corsx has other good toners as well. I am planning on buying the aha and bha toner.

Pixie glow tonic is another good one and it has glycolic acid which is an aha. Pixi Glow Tonic ~ 3.4 Fl Oz/100 ML https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014JOB038/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_6LYoDbMN3399H

I just bought Bliss What a melon toner a few weeks ago and I really like it! It has willow bark which has salicylic properties, witch hazel which helps remove oil and dirt, and it has watermelon extract which is moisturizing, full of antioxidants, anti aging, and packed with vitamin C and E. It isn't full of chemicals either and is vegan. Bliss What a Melon Replenishing Watermelon Toner with Witch Hazel and Willow Bark, Replenishes, Refreshes and Energizes Tired Skin, Vegan, 7.0 ounces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SVH79WW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_j8YoDbR4CA30A

I really like rose hydrosol in a spray, I use this one and I use it from head to toe. I use it throughout the day when my skin needs a little pick me up. I use it on top of my hyaluronic acid serum. There are other hydrosols that are good for the skin and are gentle. Alteya Organic Rose Water Spray 240ml Glass bottle- 100% USDA Certified Organic Authentic Pure Natural Rosa Damascena Flower Water Steam-Distilled and Sold Directly by the Rose Grower Alteya Organics https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NY89K5J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_E75oDbV2375HS

Thayers witch hazel is fantastic and very affordable. I have the lavender aloe vera witch hazel and really like it. Thayers Natural Remedies Witch Hazel Lavendar - Alcohol Free 12 fl oz (355 ml) Liquid https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PP15L8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xb6oDbTCY35JN There are different varieties of this witch hazel.

For dark undereyes you need a good eye cream, but I don't have much experience with them except with using Murad and clinique pep start. But I didn't use them enough to notice a difference.

For dark spots and hyperpigmentation I would use a product with vitamin C, licorice root extract, niacinamide, lactic acid, turmeric, hydroquinone, papaya, or retinoids. Of course use spf to help prevent hyperpigmentation and use a good moisturizer and a hyaluronic acid serum or water cream. I have used this serum with good results TruSkin Vitamin C Serum for Face, Topical Facial Serum with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, 1 fl oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M4MCUAF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5m6oDbPQTTY64 I love this Sunday Riley vitamin c cream, it seems to be working, it's very moisturizing without making my skin oily and causing breakouts, and a little goes a long way. https://sundayriley.com/products/ceo-antioxidant-moisturizer?variant=4173381992479

I am getting into diy skincare products so I have been reading up on a lot of actives and everything else. So if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. Good luck!

From a young age i suffered from eczema, dry skin, sun damage, and cystic acne on my face which caused post inflammatory hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and some on my forehead. I was the girl with a 'mustache' for a long time :( I would sometimes use makeup which just ended up making my skin worse because my skin is very sensitive. At its worse, my skin was so bad I remember a boy that I liked said I looked like a monster because my nasty upper lip eczema was peeling and flaking off while the makeup that I applied on top of it was making it look 10x worse :,( /sobstory

Flash forward to today I don't wear makeup, I have no acne (other than the occasional forehead bump if I eat too much sugar), my skin is much more resilient to breakouts of any kind, and my hyper pigmentation is gone. I get compliments and questions but I usually don't recommend people do exactly what I do since everyone's skin problems are different but maybe you can take parts of my regimen and start experimenting. FYI started getting into a stricter regimen about 1 - 2 years ago noticed results about a month or two in and have been adjusting it over time to what it is now.

First of all HYDRATE. SERIOUSLY. I drink at least 96oz of water a day. This makes an incredible difference in your skin. If you don't do anything else, do yourself a favor get a 32 oz water bottle and drink. the. fuck. up.

Face Regimen:

  • Cleanse twice a day, in morning and before bed with Cerave cleanser. This is one of the best cleansers I've tried, the hype is real with this one. Sometimes at night if I'm feeling frisky I oil cleanse with coconut oil then use my regular cleanser, gives my skin a nice glow and makes it super soft.
  • Gentle chemical exfoliator only at night. I use this one. I previously used this daily but now I use it on and off if my skin feels like it needs it.
  • Provence Beauty Vitamin C serum morning and night from Amazon (absolute favorite thing I use everyday this really helps fight hyperpigmentation and gives my skin a nice glow. This serum is the best bang for your buck too since it lasts a long time)
  • Retinol serum only at night. I actually started using this because I had some sun damage on my face and I could see faint fine lines starting around my mouth which scared me since I'm only 26! Used this daily for about 5 - 6 months and those lines are gone. Now I only use this every now and then because this shit is expensive and not necessary all the time.
  • Moisturize. I use Cerve Moisturizing Cream. It's aite might try something new soon though.
  • Sunscreen DAILY. Make sure you use a good sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. I previously used this tinted sunscreen it protects my skin well and gives my skin a nice finish but I've since switched over to Sun Bum and I LOVE IT. Smells great, lightweight, feels smooth, and it isn't compromised if I start sweating!

My skin is not perfect, but it's a complete 180 from where I started. BTW I also got a ton of knowledge from r/SkincareAddiction when I first decided to stick with a regimen, I would start there for more in depth info!
u/feericamente · 1 pointr/RBNLifeSkills

I used to have fairly oily skin but I've had really good luck with managing it with a skin care routine of just:

  1. a konjac sponge in the shower (run it under the water until it's soft, then scrub your face all over with that). My roommate uses his with facial soap, but I use mine just with the sponge on its own, so you can use it either way. I use the linked brand and buy it at my local natural foods store, but there are lots of options available on Amazon too. This is the part I would recommend the most--it does an amazing job at gently exfoliating the dead skin away and helping normalize the oily and dry parts. Just make sure to moisturize afterwards and you should be great.

  2. witch hazel with a cotton ball as toner morning and night (try to get Thayer's brand if you can, but just try to find a brand that doesn't put alcohol in it because that will be very drying to your skin and will up the oil production).

  3. Vitamin C serum morning and night (you only use a few drops at a time so this will last you forever)

  4. whatever facial lotion you feel works best for you--I use this, but anything light will do the trick, and put that on morning and night

  5. every so often, use a sheet mask to add in extra moisture and glow! All the ones I linked here are amazing at helping your skin.
u/bridgeriver370 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Sure! A moisturizer that I use to use A LOT was

https://www.cleanandclear.com/moisturizers/morning-burst-hydrating-gel-moisturizer

It's a gel moisturizer so it means there's less residue left behind. It helped my skin with the oil. It's not perfect don't get me wrong, but it did help. It does have fragrance so I'm not sure it will bother you. This is more budget friendly.

Another one I use a lot right now is

https://www.amazon.com/Andalou-Naturals-Roses-Beautiful-Cream/dp/B00JEMRDQY

I like this one SO much more. It's lightweight but makes my skin feel great! It's helps repair my skin it has good ingredients. It's vegan and cruelty free. It's a little pricey it's $18 on Amazon in the store it's $25. You don't need much which is good. It's definitely something I recommend you try.

https://www.amazon.com/Thayers-Alcohol-Free-Witch-Formula-Unscented/dp/B001DJDP7C

The witch hazel that use. You can also buy the other brands too like Dickinson's they do have alcohol free ones too.

https://www.amazon.com/Dickinsons-Enhanced-Witch-Alcohol-Hydrating/dp/B00KX32J26

Maybe getting a sunscreen would be a good idea too. Or finding a makeup primer with spf or foundation.

These may or may not work for you. Everyone's skin is different. Good luck!

I am preemptively concerned about dryness since adding PC's Retinol 1%. I really want the benefits of the retinol but know it can be drying so I want to be proactive about boosting hydration.

I had a badass skincare routine going before pregnancy that is totally not pregnancy friendly; I’m talking BHA/AHAs, special face washes, and rags, everything...

I got some pretty bad acne when I had to stop my routine, probably just because my skin was oily and I hadn’t looked into how to handle it while gestating just yet. But I’m getting MUCH better in the 2nd trimester, and now it’s just healing the scars left from the hell trimester. Here we go:

Face:
Garnier Clean+ Clarifying Cleansing Gel Sensitive Skin - Takes off my makeup easily. Mostly used in the shower because washing faces in sinks is brutal in the bad way.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water for Oily Skin - Takes off eye makeup easily if your having trouble with your thick black eyeliner smearing down your face because you “insist on doing your makeup like a ‘vam-per’” according to your parents.
MISSHA Time Revolution Clear Toner - Expensive as shit toner that I paid over $18 for and is now listed at $15, WTF Amazon. But it’s good stuff, pregnancy safe, toner is good stuff anyway, and it’s helping with evening my skin tone back out from the acne scars.
Triple Vitamin C Serum L-Ascorbic Acid - Vit C oil to help you fake that “pregnant glow” that we were all promised...
Bio-Oil Liquid Purcellin Oil - I use an off brand that I got on clearance but omg...like...I know this stuff is expensive but it’s a miracle. You just dab some on your scarred places, like the acne marks, or where your stupid fucking cat decided your hand was a snack and ripped a hole on your hand, or dark spots on your legs because you’re still bad at shaving leg hair and not leg skin, and I swear it fades SO FAST. Also rub it all over your boobs and belly. Like pretty much I would bathe in this from the neck down if it wouldn’t bankrupt my family.
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream for Dry/Sensitive Skin - Old faithful, the moisturizer. A tiny bit goes a long way. Also tends to make its way to my boobs when I’m tired and dont feel like using other lotions.

Body:
NIVEA Q10 Skin Firming Hydration Body Lotion - Bought pre-pregnancy. I used to use it every single morning and night on my thighs and it totally does reduce the appearance of cellulite. Now I use it lazily but it’s there and smells ok so it’s my go-to body lotion.
Lansinoh Hpa Lanolin Nipple Soothing Cream - my nipples are pierced and those things get dry in the winter. Baby may not be here yet but I went ahead and decided to try this stuff out. Seems legit. It’s super thick, moreso than Vaseline but I dig it.

I also use special toothpaste (not because pregnant, because shit teeth), a special washcloth (because I developed keratosis pilaris (sp?) and I wasn’t having it. The special rag put a stop to it FAST), lady-bits wash (because I get self conscious about sweating and smelling funky), special “sensitive skin” lube, and well I guess that’s about it. I sound like an amazon ad for many products. I’m not. Just a researcher/lover of my husband describing me as “so soft” when he touches me. 🤗

Lol

Toners:

• Fresh- Rose Deep Hydration (the one I’m currently using)

• Klairs- Supple Preparation Facial Toner (great for layering, you can almost get a serum-y effect)

• Pyunkang Yul- Essence Toner (also layerable)

Out of the three toners, the fresh one is the most water-y feeling. However, you can’t use it as a serum-y or mask like product because of that. It doesn’t lend itself to layering if you want to do a quick super burst of hydration.

Moisturizers (specifically watery or gel-like feeling, not heavily occlusive; please bear in mind that these are over $50 and boogie af but I love them, if you’d like heavier recommendations please let me know):

• Tatcha- The Water Cream (the lightest and most watery out of all of them)

• Fresh- Rose Deep Hydration (~$40)

• Drunk Elephant- Protini (gel-like but still fairly water-y)

• Sunday Riley- Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream (also fairly watery, it comes in smaller ~$20 size if you want to make a smaller purchase before fully investing)

Again, sorry the moisturizers were expensive. The better water-y and gel-like moisturizers that I’ve found and liked for oily skin were always on the more expensive side. If you test them (you can get free samples from your local Sephora for almost any product) and find that you need something heavier, please let me know! Also, sorry if the formatting sucks. I’m trying to link and do this all on my phone.

i like to alternate the days i do acids and retinol, plus it helps me see if there's a difference in my skin texture compared to if i do it every day. i was lucky not to get to the point of over-exfoliation, but it was a bit surprising for me to realise that i was overdoing it without even realising!

i use the normal version of the gokujyun but i think the premium would definitely deliver the hydration you're after! currently i'm using the deep sea therapy one which is a bi-phase toner. it's not as watery as some popular toners on here (one layer has some diff oils) but i find it works really well after applying a layer of gokujyun, and leaves my skin feeling dewy but not tacky at all. there's a couple of other toners by nooni - a seed one and a cica one. i've tried my friend's cica one a couple of times and i think it's a lighter type that would work well for daytime wear, whereas i love doing lots of skins at night, so the deep sea is a perfect match.

**Skin type and skin concerns:**

Main concerns: Dryness, acne (cystic and general acne all over chin and cheeks), and splotchy discoloration all over my face (my dermatologist said it was melasma). My skin is consistently congested and breaking out, yet my entire face is sensitive, dull, itchy and flakey. After years of reading tips here, I've finally gotten to the point where redness and the majority of flaking is gone and products don't burn when they touch me, but my skin remains dull and feels tight.

While the products I've selected are relatively affordable, they add up. Plus I'm worried I'm doing more damage than good by overwhelming my skin with all these product. Mostly though, I'm so jealous of all your minimalist routines I see on here, and I want to create one that would work for me. I don't know where to start. What are your thoughts?

  22. Hanalei Lip Treatment
  23. Cover any cystic acne with spot treatment patches
  24. Once a week, spot treat dry problem areas with Origins drink up intensive overnight mask(it looks like they recently changed the formula for this, so I'm going to have to find something new when this runs out)
  25. Once a week, spot treat acne problem areas with Proactiv Skin Purifying Mask

    **Daily behaviors possibly impacting skin:**

My diet is crap. While I don't eat a lot of processed food, I eat too much sugar, too much oily and fatty foods, too much red meat and not enough vegetables. Because of my family, it's going to be difficult to make adjustments, and honestly I'm not sure where to start. Caffeine consumption is pretty high, while I only have the occasional coffee, I drink a TON of green tea and oolong tea. Water intake is fair, and I usually refill my 32oz water bottle 2 times a day (yes, I have to run to the bathroom at least every 30 minutes). I pretty much stopped wearing makeup a little over a year ago, now I only wear for special occasions and the occasional eye liner.

HG face wash that cleans well but is not drying at alllll/super gentle, and is well-priced for quantity, AND foams without sulfates:

Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (Amazon)

Also Kiku is absolutely my love. I would have trash trash skin without it. Helps with PIH, dry skin, oily skin, balances drying from acids, good all year round, quick absorbing, nice as primer too tbh.

Both of these things have made a world of difference because my skin spirals downwards really quick if I take either of these two out, as I have sadly learned twice last year.

Other random products:

  • Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin (Amazon) - Another HG product I like to use after applying everything, and then just mist my face; leaves skin supple and bouncy; also works as primer; nice throughout the day too
  • Heritage Store Rose Petals Rosewater Facial Toner Alcohol Free (Amazon) - Almost exactly as top, but not as sticky/supple
  • CeraVe PM Lotion - I like to use this as a substitute for Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformer

Spearmint, berberine and omegas have been great for me. Look into supplements to lower testosterone/androgens. Sugar free and dairy free diets work extremely well. My acne has been so intense and painful that I've had days when I don't leave the house.

I'm also a big fan of clay masks for clarifying the pores, sheet masks for moisturizing and night oils.

Note! Topicals are great but fixing the hormones is the best cure for pcos acne. Topicals are best for management and prevention.
I'm glad that I started and consistently used a skincare routine with lots of moisture because it helped to reduce scaring and pigmentation associated with acne.

Hey! I was curious about this too so I did some searching on this subreddit and over on /r/AsianBeauty. Here toner is described nicely.

Over in Asian Beauty they use pH balancing toners and hydrating toners. I think each toner has a different purpose rather than all toners have the same purpose, you know?

Etude House Wonder Pore is quite popular, and its main function seems to be pH balancing and reducing the appearance of pores.

I personally use Thayer's Witch Hazel with Rose Water. It smells amazing and makes my skin feel very fresh. I use it right after my Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser. Here is the ingredient info on that - looks like it has pH balancers in it.

Typically American style toners are very drying because they have alcohol in them. Avoid any toner with alcohol in it, because this will worsen your dryness! I would head over to /r/AsianBeauty to search for a toner recommendation. Here is a thread I found helpful, with lots of recommendations for toners for dry skin.

Hope that helps!

Skin Type: Normal/Dry | Country/Climate I'm in: NYC | Top Skin Concern: Keeping skin hydrated, keeping pores small, getting rid of acne scars

Current Routine/Products I'm Using:

AM

Splash water on face or use face wash (was using Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam, and just recently switched to Etude House Wonder Pore).

Klairs Supple Preparation Toner

Klairs Vitamin C Drop Serum

Dr.Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass 30+ SPF

PM

Innisfree Olive Cleansing Tissue

Face wash - same as morning, was using Skinfood Pore Foam, now using Etude House Wonder Pore

Klairs toner (same as above)

Klairs Vitamin C drop (same as above)

Innisfree Wine Jelly Sleeping Pack

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]... Wondering if my routine can be critiqued! I want to work more on fading acne scars, so I think I need a stronger vitamin C serum than the Klairs one, if anyone has a recommendation. Also, if I use a stronger one, should I not use it in the morning because then I get sun exposure? Also definitely looking for a good exfoliator to use a couple times a week - I do not have one. I also really want to work on getting plump, dewy, glowing skin. My skin right now feels kinda blah. I've recently starting using this propolis sheet mask which is working great.

u/obscurityknocks · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

To begin, I would recommend something that already has everything in it and also to start with a low amount. I have used this as a base, and added more glycolic acid as needed. I have been using this cleanser for the last year, and I like it. I don't have skin problems, but I like the ph. Finally, I use this as a neutralizer. Last time I ordered, they even sent a little bottle of sample lactic acid.

I've tried many brands over the years, they have come and gone. My favorite brand went out of business a few years ago, so I've been trying to mimic the quality of that since, I think I've done alright but sure wish they still made a good 30% product.

I have normal/oily skin. Im not prone to breakouts. I’m not sure what’s wrong with my skin. I’m very diligent with my skin care routine. It seems to be congested so I wanted to simplify things for now. I want to focus on evening out my skin tone and getting rid of dark marks and hyperpigmentation. The pores are my cheeks are very large too.

These are the products I’m currently using. I use these both in the morning and at night.

Cleanser: NARS purifying foam cleanser
https://www.narscosmetics.com/USA/purifying-foam-cleanser/0607845048022.html

Toner: Heritage Store Rosewater facial toner
https://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Store-Rosewater-Alcohol-btl-plastic/dp/B00MUTKN2O

(I just started using this a week ago because I read that all skin types can benefit from a hydrating toner. Before I was using neutrogena alcohol free toner.)

Moisturizer: Clean and clear dual action moisturizer
https://www.cleanandclear.com/moisturizers/essentials-dual-action-moisturizer

I would like to find a new moisturizer. I want one that’s lightweight since my skin tends to be oily. I don’t like gel moisturizers because they’re not moisturizing enough and creams are too heavy. At night, I’ll start using a facial oil again since fall is coming soon. I used rosehip oil in the past and I liked it.

Cleanser

  • Tom's of Maine Sensitive Body Wash ^CosDNA - Probably a no go for you, since it has sunflower oil, but it's a gentle and effective cream cleanser. When I don't want to bother with 2-step oil cleansing, I put it on my dry face a minute before I get in the shower.
  • Tom's of Maine Baby Body Wash + Shampoo ^CosDNA - My 2nd cleanser for oil cleansing.

    Toners

  • Kikumasamune Sake Skin Lotion High Moisture ^CosDNA - All the Ceramides of Cerave, none of the silicones or fatty alcohols.
  • Straight Up Rose or Lavender Hydrosol

    Moisturizers

  • Scinic Honey All-In-One Ampoule ^CosDNA - It's 90% honey extract, which has 50% stronger humectant activity than glycerine.
  • Hada Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist ^CosDNA - Cheapest + most effective HA serum I've tried. Nice, simple ingredient list.

    Sunscreen

  • Cerave Baby SPF 45 ^CosDNA - The ONLY water-resistant physical sunscreen that doesn't make my skin freak out. No dimethicone and <1% Cetyl Alcohol (after the preservatives on the ingredients label); still has the ceramides and niacinimide of the adult formula.

That's all you need to start, I prefer the puck soaps, but many guys love the Proraso.

And any aftershave you like, I prefer a splash like classic oldspice but some people like a balm.

u/AlexaviortheBravier · 3 pointsr/ftm

No problem.

I had some issues where I kept changing something in it and messing all my progress up. Been doing much better now that I realized I was the problem. Seems like a lot in writing, but it really isn't much.
__
AM:

  • Wash hands

  • Wash face with Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser gently using kojac sponge

  • Pat dry with washcloth

  • Apply Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera with a cotton square/circle

  • After shaking to mix, pat on CeraVe Moisturizing Cream to which I had previously added almost .5 fl oz/15mL of 100% pure tea tree oil. (I think I read that it should be no more than 10% tea tree oil.) Last time I used Now tea tree oil but I have also used Jason.

  • Wait a while and sunscreen before going out, added to help scarring. Not sure if the one I had been using was good for my skin though so I won't put a brand here.

I mainly use the kojac sponge because it cuts down on me picking the flacky skin off my face which tended to be the gateway to me picking acne or peeling off scabs.

    __

    PM:

(I do my face wash last step in the shower even though places tend to recommend against it because of the heat; if I turned up the heat a lot during my shower, I turn it down to wash my face. It seemed to me that I used more heat in the sink after showering since my hands can stand heat better than the rest of my body.)

  • Wash face and neck with Hado Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (Harsher so I prefer it at night.)

  • Pat dry with towel before drying any other part of my body. (I go face, hair, upper back, rest of me and don't lay a towel on my back after showering since that seemed to cause acne.)

  • Apply Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera with a cotton square/circle

  • After shaking to mix, pat on Differin Gel

  • Pat on same CeraVe Moisturizing Cream as above to face and neck.

    __
    Shower details:

I use shampoo/conditioner that doesn't contain sulfates. I know my one friend realized that sulfates in her shampoo were likely what was causing her back to break out. I use this which is expensive but it lasts me a year even though I tend to overuse it.

I also wash in the following order: shampoo, conditioner (leave in), private areas with water, wash my hands with my body soap (Dr. Bronner's), then my shoulders/back before any other part since that seemed to cut down on back acne as well. Last, in order, I wash my armpits, groin (not the inside of genitals, I mean my groin pit?? [Where my leg bends] I cover my genitals to keep soap out of that area.), feet. Then I rinse out the conditioner and do my face wash routine.

Edit: Also forgot to mention that I avoid letting soap sit on my skin. Trial and error seems to show that that causes me to breakout as well so I rinse it off as I go.

I don't change my pillowcase every night but I flip them. I have two pillows I sleep on and I sleep once on each before changing the pillowcase.
    ____

I would definitely recommend changing one thing or adding one thing at a time and patch testing if you can.
    __

ETA: If your acne is severe, I'd still recommend a dermatologist when you can go. Or maybe talking to your primary doctor even. My HRT prescriber, for my acne, prescribed me Doxycycline and Tretinoin at one point. I don't use either, currently, but you can try using a non-dermatologist if you don't have any other option.

    Edit2: Clarified some minor things.

Okay I'm a little weirded out lol I'll explain: I've been hemming and hawing about repurchasing the rose water I've been using (this one, which shot way up in price and it's no longer available anyway) but I've had my eye on that Cortas one because of the price per oz being the best deal compared to the other rose water toners on Amazon... And then I see this post. I'm putting it in my cart right now! It's my only "unconventional" skincare product. I spritz it on my face before applying any moisturizing products. I just find that I like my face to be moist so the products glide and don't drag at all. Plus I also find it soothing to my redness prone skin.

u/omshanti_fuckit · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Are you in US? The world is full of hydrating toners, and tbh I find Hado Labo to be good, but not game changing. Here are some I want to try that are on Amazon Prime:

Hado Labo Premium -- Supposed to be better than the Gokyujun and it's available on Amazon Prime.

Kikumasamune

Earth's Recipe -- K-Beauty blogger Fiddy Snails is all about this one, but it's expensive.

Whamisa Organic Flowers Toner -- This one got a good review on Skin and Tonics recently. Also expensive.

You’re pretty cute. Don’t listen to anyone who doesn’t have curly hair. Your hair rocks, and what would help is if you shortened the sides and put a soft gel in the top to make the curls stand out without getting frizzy. I use Cantu Define & Shine gel - it’s like $5 or so, which is pretty cheap and you don’t need much at all so it’s worth a try.
As for skin care, you’re right, it’s hard. Your skin isn’t that bad though. You don’t seem to have scarring. Maybe try using an acne face wash with benzoyl peroxide (helps with whiteheads) and a hydrating tonerhydrating toner or a light, non-comedogenic lotion (won’t clog pores) . Only need to do it once a day, twice if your skin is oily. I think the mistake people make is doing TOO much. My skin looked similar to yours and that’s what helped me.

u/katebishophawkguy · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have this issue, too! I usually shave because I'm lazy. For your face, you want to use less strong products (the skin on your legs is thicker) and more or less treat it like acne and keep the dead skin off it and moisturize the shit out of the area so the hair can do its thing without being trapped.

Use an exfoliator once a week and before shaving/plucking. Right now I'm obsessed with L'Oreal Paris' Pure-Clay Cleanser.

I also use the following products but just one should work:

u/Bah15362 · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

As other's said it can itch and burn at first. Melazepam is stronger than others like GOW's or The Ordinary's 10%.

I started with one of those mixed with my moisturizer. I use either Hydro boost gel cream or meishoku ceracolla perfect gel and squalane. After a good time of that i now use it right after washing before toner.

With face redness it seems to be mostly about being soothing and gentle. I'm to the point now where i don't use soap to wash my face because the gentlest stuff was adding irritation redness.

I have also seen redness reduction using KLAIRS Supple Preparation Unscented Toner or Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner , Cosrx Snail 96, and SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica 100 Ampoule.

The redness battle is real. Of course sunlight is a major factor. If you do have rosacea some sunlight helps but then there's a "rebound" effect.

Still thinking about it myself but urea and sulfur are usually recommended too.

u/TrevTrev4Ev · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Heard good things about the Some By Mi AHA/BHA/PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner. There's also COSRX, and the Benton Aloe BHA Toner. Another option is to use an oil cleanser like the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

u/holypornography · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I use 2 different Neutrogena Deep Clean products. This exfoliating scrub every few mornings, when I feel like I need a good clean. This every night. Then after that I apply this toner with a cotton ball. The final step, moisturizer!

u/bikerwalla · 0 pointsr/wicked_edge

You're going to want an alum block to rub over your wet face right after the shave. It tightens your pores, disinfects, and controls any bleeding if you have cut yourself or scraped your skin. If you want one purpose-made for shaving, you can get the one by RazoRock, but you should save a few bucks and instead use a Crystal Body Deodorant; it's chemically identical and comes in a plastic applicator that is easier to hold.

After rinsing off the alum, I would use a toner splash, like Thayers witch hazel and lavender or Ogalalla bay rum, followed by a balm, like Nivea Aftershave for Sensitive Skin.

u/lindzeeee · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm not a doctor, so if you've been prescribed tret, I would talk with your doc before adding any additional products. That said, if your skin can handle it and your doctor doesn't tell you not to, you could try adding AmLactin. Retinoids and AHAs [are different chemicals] (https://phamix.com/2008/12/alpha-hydroxy-acids-or-retinol-which-is-best) so it's possible adding one would do something slightly different for your skin.

In terms of how many products you can use, it's entirely up to you. I use anywhere from 2 to 8 or 9 products at once layered /r/AsianBeauty style, including mixing (NON-prescription strength) retinoids with an AHA. On a normal day I just use glycolic acid + CeraVe (2 products). Is that excessive? Absolutely. But I put all that stuff on my face to make my skin happy, so I don't see why the rest of my body shouldn't be allowed to occasionally join the party.

> Kikumasamune Sake Skin Lotion

Wow! $13 for a 150 ml bottle on Amazon! I am a newbie, can you please tell me what is a compressed face mask? Thanks

u/allez_hop · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

Hi! Welcome!

Re: Your skin - My hormonal acne has been driving me nuts, too! This routine below (plus my body getting used the hormones - I think) - has helped my combination (but generally smooth) skin. Hopefully that pregnancy glow that everyone speaks of comes later and rids the acne??

My routine:

Evenings:

  • Wash face with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

  • Tone with Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel (alcohol-free)

  • Moisturize with Cetaphil Lotion and get extra dry spots with Shea Butter from l'Occitane

    Mornings:

  • Rinse with water
  • Tone
  • Moisturize with Origins SPF 25 moisturizer

Twice a week I alternate with a charcoal mask and a natural scrub.

Wow. I think I'm a product whore. I'd say the main thing that my dermatologist really recommended was NOT to over wash your face, and to use Cetaphil because then it doesn't strip your skin of its natural oils.

You can probably jump over to /r/skincareaddiction with more questions! (Or your doctor.)

Hydration is most likely it, time to find a toner haha. I'll definitely check out your list, thanks!

I see the Kikumasamune Skincare Lotion, would this be a good one for moisturizing/hydration?

u/goldragon · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

Here in the States we have Thayer's. The Lavender and Rose Petal are both alcohol free and have just enough fragrance to make them pleasant smelling when applying but don't really last for more than two minutes. They also make an alcohol free Unscented and Cucumber both those were kinda meh to me (I got the sampler pack a year or so back).

u/caseyographer · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use the niacinamide mixed in with Cosrx snail essence at night.

I’m not sure if you mean the Cosrx aha/bha pH balancing toner, which is just glorified water imo. If you mean the Whitehead and Blackhead products, that makes more sense. I’m having trouble finding a bha I love as well. I don’t like Stridex, and would like to find something cheaper than PC.

There’s this random one I tried on Amazon (link). I’m weary of buying brands I’ve not heard of from Amazon, but it seemed to work and left no residue behind. I might go back to it if I decide I need something more powerful than the Cosrx.

u/mattering · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I used Thayer’s witch hazel for a while then discovered the cheaper Dickinson’s witch hazel toner and have never looked back! Have you tried the hydrating toner made by Dickinson’s? I love it! It’s alcohol-free and would therefore be more gentle on your skin than the one with alcohol. If you haven’t already, try a bottle! The alcohol may be drying your face out and making it easier for bacteria to penetrate into your skin and cause mild acne.

u/dartigen · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I looked on Amazon - as much as I hate buying from there, it looks like that's the place to go. (I'm happy to see a change from what I found last year though - finally, some sellers have realized that people outside the US would like this stuff too.)

http://www.amazon.com/Alpha-Hydrox-Enhanced-percent-Glycolic/dp/B000052YM7/ref=sr_1_1?m=A3DZSPY3WMXJ88&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1371005157&sr=1-1 doesn't look too bad (they also have a cream but it's in a much smaller jar)

http://www.amazon.com/AKTA-10%25-Alpha-Hydroxy-Treatment/dp/B000X90I9G/ref=sr_1_10?m=A2Z6B6EEF7TZ6V&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1371005301&sr=1-10 is a smaller jar and more expensive but it looks like it's got a different formulation to the lotion.

http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Refining-Toner-Hydroxy-Formula/dp/B0000535RA/ref=sr_1_2?m=A2UILHLLDUMCAM&s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1371005458&sr=1-2&keywords=neutrogena+pore+refining I also looked at this one; it's cheaper than both of the others and I've bought from the seller before.

u/farmgirlfromscratch · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

You're welcome. I think both kikumasamune pink bottle and kikumasamune white bottle both lighten skin. But the white bottle has super lightening powers because it has arbutin in it

Basic skin care's original recommendations (CerVe cleanser, Neutrogena toner, Cerve moisturizing cream) and still waiting on sunscreen. That's about all for now :)

u/nerisella · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Exactly. And the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ is one of my HG no fuss, no frills, daily moisturizers for my dry skin. It also has a few "meh" to "bad" ingredients (like dyes) that I put up with because they don't bother me in particular.

If you're looking for a hydrating toner that's great IMHO then this is my favorite one.

Ingredients: "Vor-Mag™ Water, Glycerin (Vegetable), Sodium PCA, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Potassium Sorbate and Rosa Damascena (Hydroessential Rose). Water that has been vortexed and magnetized to raise the energy to a higher vibration that we believe to be more beneficial."

Several posts on this sub sold me on the Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Essence Toner, so I went for a look and found it on Amazon at [this link] (https://www.amazon.com/Whamisa-Organic-Flowers-Skin-Toner/dp/B01N7P9N8I). The price seemed really fair, especially given it comes with samples. Reviews are largely good though there's always one that claims it's inauthentic.

The company claims to be an authorized seller of Whamisa and several other AB brands but I'm not sure what to think so if anyone has had experience with CrediThink (which kind of sounds like a weird credit card scam lol), please let me know!

Edit: Also that Amazon bottle is 300 mL with samples for $38.99 while Glow Recipe sells a 120 mL bottle for $40?? Dead giveaway for shady business or a bizarrely great deal??

u/peachiestpink · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I use rose water as a toner! I normally use the Poppy Austin one off amazon, but it's expensive when cotton squares eat up so much of it, so I just got this one (came in yesterday!) because it's twice as much for the same amount and is still organic. You can keep it in the fridge for more of a cooling effect but I'm lazy :p

Plus it's awesome being able to spritz some on your face when you're a bit dry, especially if you use moisturizers with humectants (beats standing over the humidifier lol).

But be prepared for that smell!! It does dissipate eventually, but if potent floral smells are a big issue for you, maybe not the best idea

u/SparrowSoleil · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm partial to Leven Rose's Rose Water Toner. I've never had any irritation, it's really light and smells amazing

I think this is the serum she was talking about.

I'm an Amazon junkie so I'll be more than happy to point you to the Witch Hazel.

Here is the moisturizer.

And the sunblock.

You can probably find that sunblock at Walgreens, CVS, etc. I have no clue where you might find Silk Naturals products out in the wild. I think they're an indie company?

u/mazzarine · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I've be nice using this for the last few months and it's been working well for me

u/mophtly · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Is this a toner? Just confused cause it says lotion. So maybe 4:1 ratio of toner and oil? Or is that too much oil?

Someone else also recommended trying that toner so I think I will give this method a try. Thanks!

u/jenniferwillow · 3 pointsr/asktransgender

Preparation and post skin care is key. The day before epilation I take a long bath with some bath oil, and I exfoliate the heck out of my skin. Your bathwater should look as nasty as possible after this. Then I take a warm (not hot) shower to remove excess oils. I put Ammonium Lactate lotion on. Wait 12-24 hours. Before epliation, take some Aleeve. I generally do my epilation while in the shower or in another bath. rinse well, do a light exfoliation with an antibacterial wash. Dry off gently. I usually add a little skin care tonic on such as Thayers Witch Hazel Toner. after you're dry, use your lotion. There may still be some red bumps here and there, but it clears up very quickly after this treatment.

u/MRK-01 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

ok thanks i will try using my hand for a while and see what happens. Idk if it should buy a whole new toner to hydrate my face of if the one i have atm are fine since i bought them earlier this month. Should i put this lotion on after using the toner or should i not use it?: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002K8UB9A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i also have another toner but idk if its stronger or weaker than the ones i got atm.:

u/Flexo_ · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

How often should I be using toner and exfoliating gel? Is every day too much? I find the toner helps clear my black heads but it sometimes makes my nose look shiny.

I'm using Neutrogena pore refining toner, http://www.amazon.ca/Neutrogena-Refining-Toner-Hydroxy-Formula/dp/B0000535RA

Thayer’s witch hazel I like this one, with aloe & lavender. Just make sure it says “alcohol-free”

u/collenchyma · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use this toner. It's really cheap and I like the ingredients, but the smell is awful.

u/cocoroach317 · 1 pointr/PCOS

I always got cystic acne basically from age 13ish? I’m 29 now. About two years ago I discovered thayers witch hazel and let me tell you this stuff was life changing for me. This was before I knew I had pcos. I use the exfoliating cotton facial pads and use it on my face right out of the shower and in the morning and before bed. 99% clear skin now and if I get a rare pimple it’s gone so much quicker.

I only recently had a flare up of cystic acne when my
Gyno put me on birth control.

I 2nd this.

I'm in my 30s had acne until I started getting serious about washing my face. Now my skin is almost perfect.

The regimen that finally worked for me is

  1. A benzoil peroxide soap + a clarisonic MIA

    http://www.amazon.com/Clean-Clear-Continuous-Control-Cleanser/dp/B001E96LRM/ref=sr_1_10?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1310265172&sr=1-10

http://www.clarisonic.com/shop/sonic_skin_cleansing_systems/sonic_skin_cleansing_system_mia/index.php (This little device is a godsend)

  2. A skin toner

    http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Refining-Toner-Hydroxy-Formula/dp/B0000535RA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310265108&sr=8-1

  3. A 2.5% benzoil peroxide gel

    http://www.danielkern.com/product-p/treatment-8.htm

And I've also cut breads and dairy out of my diet. I seem to break out when eating lots of bread.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE TONER OF ALL TIME- i found regular witch hazel to be too drying and i hated the smell of Thayers with rose water. i can usually find this Dickinson’s with Hyaluronic Acid at Walgreens. Seriously a game changer and not too drying on my skin for Chicago winter. I think i got my last bottle from target for around $6-8 and it lasts forever.
