I've been using a look to know for a while, but as my health has declined it's gotten a bit difficult to keep up-- plus my looms never made a tight enough knit for my tastes.

So I did some research and found a good, entry level circular knitting machine that wasn't too expensive and I love it! Now I can make a good length scarf in only 3hrs.

I had an idea about making it electric-- lots of folks have set up a power drill and use it for turning the crank. Since it's not the more expensive Addi Express, unfortunately there aren't really custom attachments, so instead I'm using Sugru to attach a spare drill bit I found.

Then I want to hook it up with a foot pedal, and maybe I can work on 3-4 at once!

I also use a row counter, but I think I need a stronger magnet for it to not miss rows.

Fantastic or outstanding. Not to mention beautiful. If you want to, and if the lamp is to remain on the floor, you can switch out the plug that you've used, because they come right off the wire, for something like this. If it’s for a table, the plug that you have is cool, imho. Let me know if you start selling these! https://www.amazon.com/Black-Switch-Inline-Control-Footswitch/dp/B00R7F6MAS/ref=pd_sim_60_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XKN9JS32X7WN8WRP2X46

Thanks for the links. Thanks for letting me know layers are not accessible from USB that narrows my options. To clarify my non USB option was to solder a set of wires to the boards next to one of the ALPS switches and run the wires from those ~4 switches down to a row of foot switches so I can press the modifier with ether the keyboard or my foot. https://www.amazon.com/Etopars-6Pins-Momentary-Switch-Guitar/dp/B07519FJM7/ref=sr_1_130?ie=UTF8&qid=1525493883&sr=8-130&keywords=foot+switch something like this in a box with a hing for each and a piece of sheet metal over them as peddles. Or I could splurge on something like 4X of these: https://www.amazon.com/Philmore-LKG-Momentary-Foot-Switch/dp/B004GIIYK0/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1525493691&sr=8-14&keywords=foot+switch

It is made by a company called linemaster if it's the one I'm thinking of. You can likely buy one off the shelf or go the route of finding the small replacement switch inside the pedal.

The micro switch will be cheaper but harder to find.

You might contact the company directly for a replacement part. They have a pretty good customer service department IIRC.

You can do something like this pretty cheap. For starters I'd skip that blingy control panel. Stilldragon controller on the BK is actually better than a PID since it gives you analog control. Pump pedals make more sense than the switches on the control panel too, since you're already at the pump bending over to attach hoses, prime things, adjust flow rate via ball valve, etc. Brewhardware hot pod is a great example of something that comes in WAY freakin cheaper than his DIY enclosure kit.

I love the electric brewery guide, but it's needlessly expensive at nearly every step.

For a footswitch, in my opinion there really is only one choice.

Inexpensive, heavy cast iron, built like a brick shithouse. You can stomp on this all day without any issue. It also has a nice non-skid base. These are the switches Motorola provides for its dispatch systems.

this is suboptimal

what you need to do is wire up a couple footpedals (one for a and one for tilt maybe?)

then you can just type anything you want while you happily tap your feet to the beat

then go an extra step further and make the bottom of ur pedals transparent and put shinewave leds on them so they blink away while you're wobbling.

Looks ljuat like a the momentary foot switch I bought yesterday to switch between the clean and overdrive on my amp. Momentary Foot Switch : 30-17090 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004GIIYK0?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/gatowman · 2 pointsr/Skookum

I have tons of kanthal around so I don't need much to make a foam cutter, but I have the same fear making and using one as well. I figured I'd get a momentary foot pedal switch and run it through that with some thick rubber gloves.

Like I get showing brands of specific stuff you cant get elsewhere or is being used for a certain reason but c'mon.

u/sleepybrett · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I made one from one of these and a pro micro running qmk. https://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Duty-Industrial-Foot-Switch/dp/B01D5BYN30/ref=sr_1_14?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1540254441&sr=1-14&keywords=foot+pedal

Had a couple left over from a project i did. The spring is a little heavy, so I found a different one. But it has a microswitch already in there good to go.

There is most likely a bad/lose connection inside of the inline switch.

If it were me I would rewire it and change out the socket with one of these pull chain sockets, https://ibb.co/cb0wxY1 which would make it a lot easier to turn it on and off. If the chain isn't long enough you can add one of these decorative chain extenders https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Home-Improvement-Ceiling-Fan-Pull-Chain-Ornaments/zgbs/hi/5486427011 All should be available at your local hardware store.

Else you could rewire it with one of these foot switches https://www.amazon.com/Pedal-Switch-Inline-Control-Footswitch/dp/B01GY2MKFK

How do you plan on shutting off the washing machine though?

If it's under 15 amps, use this:

That sucks! You know, you can plug in a second keyboard and use it as a foot switch, if the keyboard is flat enough. Or you can buy a foot switch, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Single-Foot-Switch-Pedal-Control/dp/B00476SQDG/ref=pd_cp_pc_3

u/LinuxPoodle · 2 pointsr/piano

not only does it need the same plug, but also the same pinout and protocol.

this counts as proprietary hardware so nothing is guaranteed.

Might have found something here:

http://diykeyboard.wikidot.com/yamaha-triple-pedal-connector

They suggest you keep the sustain pedal you already have, and add simple on-off switches for the other ones. It's about $5 each for the switch, then you only need a cable with correct plug, and connect the wires to the switches.

As a DIY project it seems possible to do this under $20.

floor switch - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E0ZAMM6/

PS/2 extension cable - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007TZCTEE/ (this I'm not sure of... PS/2 mouse actually only used 4 of the 6 pins, I think, so cables might not actually be fully equipped for 6-pin use)

everthing else is up to your soldering skills

OMG I had no idea this device existed.. Now I want to use this footswitch as a Pharah Jet, Winston leap, or D.Va thrust. I need this!!

Either cast a resin mold or cut and glue/solder/epoxy the key to the ring. Hook the switch up to your case.

Any momentary key switch would work, but the tubular lock will probably be the lowest profile key you can use. Plus, you can keep a spare key hidden somewhere in case your ring gets lost/breaks.

I built a custom macro pad with two [foot pedals similar to these] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXTEQ1C) about 6 years ago (way before I was into mechs). While they don't contain keyboard switches, they are mechanical (and you'll never feel the difference under your foot).

At the time I just used an Arduino that supported HID, and wrote the firmware from scratch (it only had 10 switches and a mouse wheel, so I didn't need a matrix).

I no longer use the macropad (I've replicated most of it's functionality in QMK at this point), but I miss the foot switches, so I'm considering just building a new "keyboard" with just a few foot pedals based on a Teensy or Pro Micro and QMK.

For my use case, I don't need the pedals to modify the regular keyboard, but just use them for Vent/ Discord push to talk, and in game voice, so having the controller separate from my main keyboard is preferential.

If you wanted them to act as modifiers for an existing keyboard (as layer shifts for example), you'd need extra room in the matrix, or some extra pins, and you'd have to run a cable between the keyboard and pedals (this was the main issue with my macro pad).
