I have an entire shelf devoted to hot sauce. Here are my faves.
El Yucateco. All of these are bomb, but my fav is the green and black habenero. I believe the Caribbean and chipotle have some sugar in them, but the rest are sugar free.
High Altitude Gourmet is my absolute fav hot sauce company, and makes my fav red habenero and chipotle sauce. Neither those, nor the Caribbean lime have sugar. I can't recall about the rest of their product's though. I do think that despite the label saying 0g carbs/tsp, they might be a little more carb heavy than some others because the ingredients are just lime juice, peppers, garlic and salt, no water or vinegar. For some reason they don't even mention this product online, but if you're in CO, USA they sell a really good habenero yellow mustard at Kroger stores.
Zulu Zulu Peri Peri is my go to for chicken if I'm not feeling chipotle.
Finally, for BBQ sauce I just recently discovered G. Hughes. I've only had the hickory, but it's pretty good. It's a little sweet and needs a spicy rub underneath it to balance that out IMO, but other than that I like it. They also make a ketchup I'd like to try.
It's can be a pain to buy hot sauce online when you have to deal with shipping costs and higher prices on some sites.
I mainly order from heathotsauce. They have so many sauces to choose from and the $5.99 flat rate shipping is great. Always very helpful to answer questions and recommend sauces as well. I really like them as a company.
Otherwise, I try to keep an eye out for good deals when I can find them.
19.6oz Yellowbird Habanero is now on amazon for $7.99 which is a great price. They also have Dirty Dick's. They had 2-packs of 10oz Marie Sharp Habanero at a good price, but I just noticed it went up by like $5. However the [Fiery Hot Habanero 2-pack](https://www.amazon.com/Marie-Sharps-Fiery-Sauce-Pack/dp/B00FZ6GO04/ Fiery Hot Habanero) is now even cheaper. Prices can fluctuate on there so I check them out every so often. If you order enough to hit the $25 free shipping mark it's definitely worth it.
Ebay can also be a good place to look. I recently bought more Scorpion Gourmet for $7 shipped per bottle, which is a solid price when you think about shipping. You can get 3 bottles of Gringo Bandito for $14 shipped. That's pretty much close to retail, and it's only place where I can get the hotter black label version, which aren't in the stores near me.
I love Cholula, but I think it has it's place for specific foods. Right now it is mostly just eggs for me.
Otherwise my favorites include Mountain Man, and Rhino (and of course sriracha.. duh it's awesome). Mountain man (both the fire roasted habernaro and the roasted garlic) has a delicious roasted flavor without being heavy on the vinegar. You'll love it. Rhino is just packed with flavor. I don't know how to describe it. It is just delicious. Perfect for burritos.
Give them a try if you see them in store. You won't regret it.
The people I spend New Years with always just do like several different crockpot dishes that are delicious but not so healthy, like those johnsonville "lil smokies" cocktail wieners cooked in barbecue sauce, meatballs, and then things like carrots, broccoli, and other snacks veggies. A personal favorite idea of mine is a meatball dish that is super simple.
Get a package if frozen meatballs, the kind that are ready to eat, a jar of (the original recipe calls for grape but you can substitute your own preference, I use cranberry) jelly, like for toast, I think Brits call it jam; and a jar/bottle of chili sauce.
Throw everything into a pot and heat until the meatballs are heated through, in a slow cooker it's usually about 2 hours on high, 4 hours on low, or you could do it on the stove even faster. Then just serve over something like egg noodles, or mashed potatoes.
I've recently made Melinda's Red Savina my workhorse sauce. It's habanero-based so the heat is well-balanced with hints of fruitiness, but the reason I use it on almost everything these days is the flavor – it just tastes natural.
Bonus: Melinda's Naga Jolokia is superhot, but still has a distinct fruity flavor (unlike Dave's naga jolokia, which I feel has no real flavor, just heat). So if your tolerance has gotten really high, give it a go.
Also, I would like to mention that I am in no way affiliated with Melinda's – I just genuinely love the stuff, and it's easily found in stores (or at least where I live). xD
Egg Scramble. It's the best way I've found to clear out left over veggies for breakfast. Start with the mixings that take longer to cook (onion, asparagus, zucchini, toss them in whatever sauté pan is usually on top of the stove, along with a little Pam/bacon grease/oil/whatever lube you love. Add in the quicker-cooking veggies (spinach is my fav), then crack a couple eggs on top and stir until done. Season as you choose: the best I've found so far is a little s&p, and then some Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce. Toast and a banana rounds out all the food groups, and gets me ready for the day. I love breakfast!
If you like green sauces the Bronx Greenmarket sauce and Marie Sharp's Green Habanero are great options.
Any of the yellowbird condiments are also good starting points and they come in variety/sample packs, though you'll pay a premium for the sample sizes. They have a 3 pack of the 19oz bottles for about the same price as the 5 pack of tiny bottles but you get to try 2 less flavors. Cholula also makes some very good flavors, their Chili Garlic is among the best for less heat inclined people and you can also find it in most grocery stores.
Most of the non-green sauces that I use regularly are pretty spicy, I'm familiar with more mild green sauces because those are my wife's preference.
Also Butterfly Bakery of Vermont's hot sauces are on amazon, though they're cheaper on their actual website
So I tried this recipe. I made it with elbow macaroni and didn't dump quite so much sauce on the pasta, but otherwise I followed the recipe to a tee.
It definitely needed more salt. I don't know if OPs cashews were salted, but mine weren't and I added an extra 1/2 teaspoon where it said "pinch salt (to taste)" and that made a massive difference.
The basil "garnish" is also kinda required. It just didn't taste the same without it but sprinkling some on made a huge difference.
It still left a bit to be desired until I put a few dashes of my favorite Bajan Pepper Sauce on top. That made it a meal! To be fair, I'd do the same with regular mac and cheese as well. I never liked it plain.
All in all, I'll make this again. Definitely a keeper.
Cool. Thanks for the info. I'm always down to try new sauces. Mind you, I used to regularly eat this just to prove to my friends it wasn't hot, so that they'd try it. In the end, we'd both cry for 30 minutes, totally worth it. I love hot stuff, I love it even more if I can find it in a sauce to add to things and/or bake in.
EDIT: I don't think that's the right sauce, I just know it was Daves and it was insanely hot. Like, bawl for 30 minutes and try not to breathe, hot.
I actually really liked that she does this. I've done the same but with this for the last six years or so. Am I missing an inside joke here? As I get older and have more income, the little comforts of life become more and more important to me. I guess it doesn't bother me if others think it's silly because it makes me happy.
Busha Browns is my current favorite, went through my first bottle pretty quickly and just picked up 3 more today. For something a little spicier I like Melinda's Naga Jolokia. I just picked up like 10 new sauces today so maybe I'll have a new favorite soon haha
Took me a while to find something to pair with it, but High River Sauces 'Rogue' definitely has a unique taste. It's formulated with Maruga Scorpion peppers using a Blood Orange base for the sauce.
I've found that it pairs surprisingly well on grilled and fried fish, along with pizza and chili. It takes a while to really get the flavor, but once you do it's awesome.
By 'under ten' do you mean bucks or heat rating??
My alltime favourite hot sauce is this Moruga Trinidad Scorpion Blood Orange hot sauce
It is amazing.
Edit: I have about 40 hot sauces currently so saying this is the best is a true compliment.
I'm a huge fan of Iguana Radioactive, it's maybe not a huge step up in heat but it has great flavor and goes great on tacos. I can tear through a bottle in just a week or two.
My favorite all-around sauce is Mountain Man Smoked Habanero.
IMO, good runners up are Sambal Oelek being the best Asian flavor, and the best sauce for BBQ is Devil's Duel from Dinosaur.
Gotchujang(maybe spelled wrong).
It is a korean ingredient that is a fermented paste that is spicy. Interestingly there is no scoville rating for it because it's rated on a different scale of spicy. I don't know why. I like how the heat hits you and it has a wonderful earthy and sweet flavor.
I always put a teaspoon worth in teriyaki sauce to give it a little extra flavor with a cool little spicy finish. I also use it to make super spicy wings and sauce for fried chicken. This is what I buy.
NEEDS MOAR JALAPENOS
Note: Jalapenos can vary widely in spiciness - I highly recommend tasting them before you try my suggestions. They should be a fair more spicy than you normally can stand, but not zomg i need a fire extinguisher for my tongue.
Substitute chipolte in adobo sauce for ketchup. It's possible to get the Adobo by itself, but adding peppers + sauce into a food processor/blender/ninja-like chopping session can work well too.
Suggestion #2:
Just add some finely diced fresh jalapenos.
Suggestion #3:
Get some pickled jalapenos, dice them, and add them to the beef. Add the juice to the ketchup. It'll be pretty runny at that point, so you might wanna plop it into a saucepan to reduce the liquid by 1/2 for awhile.
I'm a big fan of the Melinda's line. It's not terribly hot for a habanero sauce, but the flavor is great. The XXXXtra Reserve is my personal favorite.
Amazon link
Edited the link to not go to the one that costs $38 lol...
I've gotten sauces here and there, but a lot of them have been based on that Hot Ones show.
I actually really enjoy the sauces they make and sell on Heatonist, theLos Calientes is my favorite.
I got the Rogue Moruga Blood Orange sauce based on that show too, and also really enjoyed it.
^((Can also vouch Da Bomb is legitimately terrible))
My coworker claims Scorned Woman is his favorite but I haven't tried it.
> Gochujang
The Korean hot pepper paste that everyone should have in their kitchen. I use the shit in so much stuff I make it would be easier to list the things I do not use it in. It is fantastic stuff.
I haven't tried the Hickory yet because my regular store doesn't have it (did see it in an occasional store, so I will get some next). My opinion was that the Honey was so sweet that it was virtually inedible. The Original was quite good - tasted like a normal tomato based BBQ.
That said, I've been experimenting with making my own vinegar base sauce since that will get away from the other sweeteners as well. I haven't gotten that right yet though.
The other sauce I use is more of a hot sauce, but it's got more volume than the little drop bottles: Gator Hammock. They make a few different varieties, and at least the one I have is no calories and tastes amazing. I can put that stuff on just about anything. Someone put it on the pulled pork I made this weekend, and afterwards I tried that - quite good, no surprise.
I love that Tabasco Habanero. But to be honest, throw out the sriracha. Get the Huy Fong Chili Garlic Sauce
This shit goes good on everything and in my opinion is better than the Sriracha sauce.
I bought some Mina Harissa, kinda like a spicy Moroccan pepper ketchup, after they both really liked it (even Link!) on their Strange Condiments Taste Test episode. It's really good!

I just bought Rogue Moruga Blood Orange Scorpion Pepper Sauce based on a recommendation I saw on here. I can't get enough of it. Strong kick with a nice sweet citric base—if you're into that.
Try Melinda's. It has a thick texture and is hot but not painful. There are several varieties but (IMHO) this one is the best:
http://www.amazon.com/Melindas-XXXXtra-Reserve-Habanero-FL-OZ/dp/B000R2DUTY/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303250863&sr=8-2-fkmr1
Try some on a roast beef sandwich. Mmmmmmmmm!
This hot sauce was my favorite but I can't find it on TJ's site. I sure hope it wasn't 86'd.
https://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Jalapeno-Pepper-Sauce/dp/B0064HEIZ6
You can buy the variety pack on Amazon for like $20, definitely worth it. https://www.amazon.com/El-Yucateco-Sauce-Habanero/dp/B00T86WT4C/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1541518218&sr=8-8&keywords=yucateco
worth every penny
I buy mine from a little asian market called the Hannah, great stuff, i prefer the chili-garlic sauce that's in a screw top bottle because its easier to dish out...
>I have never experienced the problem of spicy food exit revenge.
If you'd like to, here's a 100% guarantee:
Buy this.
Put a generous amount on your food.
Enjoy your bowel movement the next day.
You really need to find one of these places in your local area. They've got dozens of hot sauces you can try. You'll be amused for hours.
I personally like Gator Hammock Gator Sauce. Yes, I tried it first at Firehouse.
Here you go:
https://www.amazon.com/Million-Scoville-Pepper-Extract-Sauce/dp/B0032ETLP6/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485809835&sr=8-2&keywords=1%2Bmillion%2Bhplc&th=1
Definitely the best bang for your buck when it comes to extracts. This one has a slow burn that builds up over time.
One of my favorite vinegary sauces is Adoboloco's Hawaiian flavor. It's kind of pricy on its own, so it makes the most sense to get a Build-Your-Own 3 pack to cut the per-bottle price.
My other go-to options for flavorful hot sauces are Lucky Dog's Black Label, Yellowbird's Habanero flavor, or my Habanero & Carrot.
Hope this helps!
MIX A JAR OF HUNT'S CHILI SAUCE WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF GRAPE JELLY AND COOK IT WITH A BUNCH OF LITTLE SMOKIE COCKTAIL SAUSAGES UNTIL EVERYTHING'S NICE AND HOT.
YOU'LL THANK ME LATER.
What! I feel like I'm always discovering something new there. Luckily for me, the TJs is about 10 min away, so easy to drop by for a single item.
Is it this one? I can never have too many hot sauces, lol.
No, the Huy Fong chili garlic sauce has no oil in it at all. See ingredients here. It is a chunky sauce designed to be used as a condiment or cooking ingredient.
You're thinking of chili garlic oil, like this by Por Kwan. I love it in soups and stir-fry...but I'll still dip my steak in the Huy Fong sauce :)
I LOVE this stuff https://www.amazon.com/Iguana-RadioActive-Atomic-Pepper-Sauce/dp/B0014KZM7G
Harissa paste. A little dab of this stuff can pack a spicy, tangy, smoky punch and add flavor to a whole bunch of dishes--eggs, pasta, soups, casseroles, leftovers--you name it. My favorite brands are Cava and Mina. It's easy (and more economical) to make your own too, if you have a food processor.
:(
Good thing I made my own mayonnaise with a few drops of this stuff. :)
Ah, sorry, so it's a Native American/Central American way of cooking jalapeño peppers. When you smoke jalapeño peppers they become chipotles. And when you cook chipotles in with salt and sugar and vinegar, they become Chipotles in Adobo Sauce.
Here in the states, you can typically find them in the ethnic food section of our grocery store. They usually come in a small little 7 oz container like this.
http://www.amazon.com/Morena-Chipotle-Peppers-Adobo-7-Ounce/dp/B002N3XZ6I
The flavor is spicy (so you should deseed them if you don't want it to hot), and very smoky. I think that these really make this particular stew.
If you haven't worked with this before in the stew recipe I gave you, pour the chipotle, cilantro (coriander), and tomato puree in slowly, and try the stew to see what spice and smokey level you like. I like it really spicy and really smokey so I go gangbusters.
a gamble, not everyone likes hotsauce, but everyone loves bacon.
Yeah I've tried this stuff, it's crazy fucking hot.
The Amazon Reviews are hilarious too, enjoy
I get Mina Harissa from Fresh Market, its pretty decent, though I'm partial to making my own these days.
I'm a newbie to this I'm not even sure I understand what I don't have that doesn't qualify but I just brought home yellowbird habenero condiment and it's pretty damn good. Yellowbird, Habanero Sauce, 19.6 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TBFMXGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MQr1Bb53K0DET
best all around sauce
https://www.amazon.com/Smoked-Onion-Hot-Sauce-Ounce/dp/B071XN3R32/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1FH72YAMFVRQJ&keywords=smoked+onion+hot+sauce&qid=1568152457&s=gateway&sprefix=smoked+onion+%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-3
If you have Trader Joe's near you, their Jalapeno Pepper Hot Sauce is a nice flavorful one with a good amount of heat. I use it quite a bit, goes really good with breakfast.
I guess you can buy it online, but its way cheaper in the store
http://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Jalapeno-Pepper-Sauce/dp/B0064HEIZ6
This is the best sauce for pizza and pasta.
As far as wings.. Franks? Franks is good for nothing but the trash.
Try some Gator Sauce if you ever get the chance. MMMMmmmm good.
I adore this stuff, zingy and hot
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aunt-Mays-Bajan-Pepper-Sauce/dp/B0002E4EPQ
Replace chili beans with pinto beans
Replace diced tomatoes with rotel tomatoes
Add an onion
Change garlic powder to a couple gloves of garlic
Add jalapeno / habaneros / pepper extract
Add some chopped carrots
I like cayenne powder in my chili as well
I dunno. Not much to say. In the early 2000s Dave’s Insanity Sauce was de facto hottest hot sauce out there. Apparently it put someone in the hospital when it was used in a chili competition (chili like with beans, not ‘hot chili’s’)
I’ve had it before and just a couple drops is enough to spice up a pot of spaghetti sauce. “Spice up” or “ruin,” depending on your taste/tolerance.
Amazon has it: Dave's Original Insanity Hot Sauce - 5oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DID5R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u7KYCbP4PAWA2
I don’t know how these others compare. I’ve been out of the scene for years. Good luck!
You know what would make burritos even better? BACON FLAVORED HOT SAUCE.
I would agree. I think all those hot sauces that hot are for novelty purposes only. They sure aren't pleasurable to eat, even if you do it eat them, it's essentially just as a dare.

Google isn't hard to use.
Melinda's XXXXtra Reserve has a very similar recipe to Marie Sharp's habanero, so if you like one you may like the other. Personally, I think the tastes are fairly distinct (and strongly prefer Melinda's), but they're both carrot based and habanero spiced.
There are tons of variables in the situation you describe that could account for your problem.
A few examples;
The commercial sauces and the takeaway restaurant using ingredients and quantities your body isn't accustomed too.
The sanitation conditions of the location they were prepared and the employees preparing them.
Was there time/temperature abuse involved in the production of these items.
Those are just a few that spring to mind.
Also, some facilities just use distilled (if you will forgive my use of the term) capsaicin to add heat to commercial sauces (like Dave's Insanity Sauce) since it is cheaper than buying actual peppers. Your digestive tract might have an issue with that. Your takeaway place might be using a sauce like that as a base for it's own.
Good luck!
Hope this helps.
Dave's Insanity Sauce. Incredibly hot - use your own sauce and add a small amount to test, say 1/8th tsp for starters (seriously!), and go from there. This stuff is extrememly hot. If memory serves it uses extract, making its Scoville count much higher than a regular hot sauce. I've seen it in grocery stores, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Good luck!
this is the good stuff.
Yellowbird, from Austin, Texas, has a sriracha-style sauce...made from habaneros. Good price, also, 20 oz for $8, none of those ubiquitous boutique 5 oz bottles.
Does this look like the same thing?
Turkey Bacon Ranch, Insanity, Koenigsegg One1. For every Kilogram it weighs, it has 1 horse power making the KG/HP ratio 1/1. Also, on the dyno it is faster than the Hennessy Venom GT
Here are some of my favorites that pack a decent punch:
Ass Reaper
Bravado - Crimson Red
Red Ghost
Green Ghost
Fat Cat - Chairman Meow's Revenge
Nando's - Xtra Xtra Hot
Melinda's - XXXXtra Reserve
Iguana - En Fuego
Iguana - Radioactive
I don’t know anything about SHU’s
But el Yucatán’s sauces are good. I like the green and the red, but they have a bunch of different ones

This is the hot sauce I bought. I found it at Target, but I've seen it at a Kroger as well.
i like this one a lot.

Are you sure she didn't mean Heinz Chili Sauce? That's much more likely for a little old lady. It's what a lot of people use to make cocktail sauce (for shrimp).
Ugh, I feel guilty linking to this twice in one thread, but I really liked this one.
For smoke flavour you can either buy liquid smoke or you if you like chilli then you can buy Chipotle In Adobo (http://www.amazon.com/Morena-Chipotle-Peppers-Adobo-7-Ounce/dp/B002N3XZ6I).

I would suggest perhaps buying a big block of chuck steak and making a chilli.
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/139165/dakotas-texas-style-chili/
This recipe is fairly simple for a beginner and it also has bacon (vegetarian kryptonite) and will add more smoke flavour (assuming you use a smoked or double smoked variant).
Proportions are in the recipe, takes 3 hours to cook the meat tender and it's a one pot dish so your clean up is small. You'll have some leftovers for the rest of the week.
The guy asking about red wine is probably going to suggest Beef Bourguignon which requires a lot of red wine and is very delicious but harder to prepare than chilli in my opinion and doesn't have any of those smokey flavours you are after.
Sriracha's good alright.
Anyone tried this? It isn't available in New Zealand yet and those Amazon bastards won't send me any!
Some reviews on Amazon. Might be worth trying!
Yellowbird is your new friend. It's a sriracha style sauce, but made with habaneros rather than red jalapenos.
Get the El Yucateco variety pack off of Amazon.

The color reminds me of Blair's sauces, like 3am Reserve. Though they probably wouldn't waste that one on a prank. This one is almost as dark as Blair's, not as hot(once I ate a tablespoon of 3am and my hands went numb for 24 hours), but much cheaper per oz.
Also, when I go to ramen shops to get a "spicy" version of different bowls, they have that scoop of that red paste. I believe it's their house version of gochujang.

I see the Dave's ghost pepper, have you tried Melinda's Naga Jolokia? I've always felt it's the ghost pepper sauce with the best flavor to go with the heat.

As long as they don't discontinue the red jalapeno one we're good :/
Not if you're doing it right.
If you need more heat in your pizza dip, you might try Yellowbird's habanero sriracha...

Add a little heat.... http://www.amazon.com/Million-Scoville-Pepper-Extract-Sauce/dp/B0032ETLP6/ref=pd_sbs_misc_2
I second Sriracha, but I gotta go more with the chili garlic sauce
GARLIC RULES.
Also, Crystal
Edit: Forgot about Crystal!
That was my first thought as well

Your prankster buddy filled your tube of ANAL-EZE^TM with hot pepper paste
For lazy like me: https://www.amazon.com/El-Yucateco-Sauce-Habanero/dp/B00T86WT4C?th=1
Also available at Amazon (with Prime but for slightly more)
Ever try this? It's great, you get a bit of the heat, but it still has flavor.

Oooh have you tried Chipotle Tabasco? I don't like regular Tabasco, but I have a hard time sometimes choosing between Chipotle Tabasco and Sriracha! They're both amazinggggg
Kinda
Turns out I read the listing wrong and amazon don't actually sell the ghost one, I was looking at the Naga Jolokia one (didn't realise they were different).
Amazon sucks for hot sauces. I usually use Chilli Bugs but have never thought to look in Tk Maxx before.
AKA Dave's Insanity Sauce
get a bottle of some really good hot sauce and wait for the roommate/whomever to cook a spicy dish.
When they're gone, dump some of the sauce in it.
"holy shit man, I added wayyyy to many spices". Then they usually proceed to hover over the sink salivate like mad.
DAVES INSANITY SAUCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Have fun finding Blair's Mega Death with Liquid Rage, I found it, posted it here, it's been out of stock ever since.
Past sauces that have been subbed out have been:
-Texas Pete's (in place of Sriracha)
-Tapatio (in place of Tabasco)
-Rogue Moruga Blood Orange Scorpion Pepper (in place of Bravado)
-High River Hellacious Hot Sauce (in place of Queen Majesty)
-Pain is Good Louisiana Style (in place of Hot Ones)
-Pain 100% (in place of Zombie Apocalypse)
I know there's a few others, but this is just off the top of my head.
Just make regular chili and dump a bottle of this in. It will taste nasty, but be incredibly hot. Also, don't get it in your eyes, it will end badly.
Sriracha
Tapatio
El Yucateca
Pain Is Good, Louisiana Style Link
Hot Ones Hot Ones Link
Rogue Moruga Orange Rogue
Pain 100% Bought this one a few years ago, really tastes like shit
Da Bomb Insanity Da Bomb
357 Magnum 357 Mad Dog, creeper, great flavor but after a couple minutes really creeps up on the heat....and later in the day the heat hits the butthole too
Blair's Mega Death Sauce The main site also has two other saucees that are even hotter
> The line 'don't do anything out of hunger, not even eating' really irks me.
It's very very intentional. It's intended to piss off the audience, "get you out of your comfort zone".
> But returning to that, it just strikes me as pseudo-intellectual bullshit
That's what it is going for. Frank is not a nice person. And it even makes you question the very meaning of "pseudo-intellectual". At what age do people stop learning? Frank is stuck in his basement, never learning Love - from his great teacher (his wife). This goes beyond Intellectualism.
This line got a lot of discussion - and I really don't see it as an error on the writer's part. It isn't some bad dialog. It's specifically intended to punch you in a specific spot of the brain ;)
Now, would people pay good money to be punched in that spot of the brain. That's the issue with Season 2 - it isn't made for entertainment. Season 2 is very much a serving of Dave's Insanity Sauce. It's bitter, terrible, insulting and hurts going into your mouth -and the next day on the toilet. Much like Dante's Infero story.
