I got the Strike Industries link 3 piece hand stop kit. Its was 17$ when i bought it and its honestly great. Direct attach to KeyMod/M-Lok !! It could be a little better and softer on the hand, but the versatility is great. I prefer a very particular grip setup and finding one that could direct attach to KeyMod was near impossible. So i make it with this.

PMags is what i use and never had a problem. Brass shavings/particulate could gunk up eventually but if you take average care of your rifle i wanna say there's no issue. Never had a steel(?) AR10 Mag that does that so i cant say for sure..

I'll start by saying I think that savage looks pretty awesome. However:


Despite a lot of hate on the AAC-SD I have one and I love it. Out of the box it shot sub-MOA with factory load XM118s and PPU 168s. The factory Xmark Pro gets unnecessary hate for no reason. It has amazing adjustment and feel out of the box compared to a lot of the hair triggers people try to put on their rifles. You really don't need another trigger but you can if you want to waste the money. Remington will do the recall on the rifle for free for the "totally fires itself if you run it down to the lowest setting and bump it like a dumbass" bullshit that is not even true of any R700 ever built, but you can send it in and they will do it for you. I sent both of mine in just because it made it easier to ship them to my new house when I moved. Their customer support is pretty awesome. As is Smith and Wesson's and Winchesters in my experience.

The rifle is stock for me at the moment and I am using a Caldwell bi-pod with a Bushnell elite scope. The scope isn't the end all be all but it is the best thing I've ever shot through as a civilian. I was in the same boat as you money wise. I do notice the complaint about the free float being negated with a bi-pod sometimes since the Hogue stock is basically rubber but if you fire each round with the exact same fundamentals down it will shoot sub-moa still. I'm using a 20MOA down scope mount from Nightforce and I love it. The rifle is a bit heavy and I do want to swap out the stock eventually for a M24 or M40 variant but it can easily be handled and used to shoot and move if you choose to practice like that. I've had it out to 500 yards so far and at that range it still shot a 16oz water bottle off the wall at our tactical range from our elevated tower. I'll see if I have any pictures of it somewhere and I'll post it, or just take it out later and take a picture of it.

I'm a fan of the bipod, personally. I currently have THIS CRAPTASTIC ONE on my target build. It was super cheap and is a temporary solution. It has a little QD bolt adapter and is reasonably stable for $20.

I plan to get a better one, but that's a few notches down the list for now. When I do get a better one it'll be a lot more stable and have a swivel mount. Probably something like this.

I don't use the legs all the time when I shoot. Sometimes I'll use sand bags or even my shooting bag. I like to keep it practical and stay in the habit of shooting under various conditions with different equipment.

Finally, bipods are super hand for generally handing and laying the rifle down.

Yeah, pretty sure it's this one. it was super cheap and the spring rattle is pretty loud but for a cheapie bipod it fits my needs pretty well. Mine didn't come CVlife branded though.

If you're feeling a little more wealthy than the $16 bipod I really like my buddy's caldwell pivot. it sits a bit higher with the legs out and can pivot to adjust if your bench isnt even.

ammo is the biggest factor when shooting 22. I'd suggest you try CCI standard velocity to start, or any match grade 22 ammo that is standard velocity, which will be much more accurate than the supersonic stuff. My CZ 455 really shoots Lapua Center-X ammo well, as well as the pricier Eley stuff.

You'd also do better with a bipod to get a more stable base to shoot from. You don't even have to spend that much

for a scope, I have a Bushnell "rimfire optics" model on my CZ 455, it was ~$140 and I have much nicer scopes I could swap it for, but I have yet to do so because it's worked so well for me. This model looks pretty good, I have the next tier up with more magnification but it seems to be discontinued. It has a ton of elevation available for adjustment, I've shot out to 300 with it, and even 500 with holdover past it's adjustment range. Get a rail to mount it on, and you'd be good to go.

Where do you live in MA? The south shore area hosts monthly informal 22 rifle matches at area clubs, and they are open to all and very helpful to beginners.

Well, you don't have to hold it just in front of the trigger, you just have to hold it the same way every time.

I recently started shooting a springer as well, and I found that getting a chair and table with a small shooting bag like this http://www.solware.co.uk/air-pistol-air-rifle/caldwell_deadshot_rear_front_bags.jpg (just the front one, you still want to support the butt) and, holding the fore stock, rest your hand on the bag. This will get you acquainted with a hold that you can do consistently, and then move on from there.

I can get .3" groups at 25 yards pretty consistently. This is with a Beeman R9, which should be similar in power and weight to your Hatsan 95.

So I'm pretty new to long range shooting. Like really new, so please take this as someone in your shoes rather than an experts point of view.

I started researching about 2 months ago, bought a gun 2 weeks ago, and 3 days ago I was ringing steel at 500 yards (first fucking shot at 500 too!!). Now I had a lot of help. My girlfriend's brother is very talented and experienced in long range shooting. He has just about every type, style, and caliber long gun you would want in this sport. With his guidance I bought this.

  I'm all dialed in at 200 yards and pretty excited to hit the range again later this week. I hope to be hitting 1000 yards if the wind isn't so bad next time. I could have spent less, but there is no denying that the hype behind the 6.5 American made predator is real.

Bipods are best for PCP rifles. On a springer, a better solution would be shooting sticks. Shooting sticks with a springer let the stock glide freely while the gun cycles the shot. Many make them from dowel rods, but more utilitarian designs can be purchased. I have telescopic shooting sticks, they give me a nice stable shooting platform regardless if I'm standing or crouched.

There are three main options for a bipod:

• Rail mount - mounts to standardized rails
  
• Sling Swivel Mount - uses the sling swivel on the rifle to attach, useful for most hunting rifles since they don't typiclly come with rails
  
• and barrel clamp - this just clamps to the barrel, they are usually pretty basic, but at the same time they are pretty cheap.
  
  See what would be appropriate for the rifles you are looking at and go with that. It also does not hurt to get her input, going to the gun store with your significant other can be lots of fun!

Yeah there are a few little things like the collars where the springs attach can slip but I fixed that with a bit of sugru, and then added more sugru to help quiet it up a bit for varmint hunting.

If I were shooting something huge that was really heavy or had a big kick I would think about getting something more expensive... After I tried this cheapo on it.

It could be a pain if you have a cheap case with thin padding, or have some really challenging ground to setup on, but it works fabulously on my shooting table and mostly smooth ground.

That mates with an AimSports rail I got from primary. I REALLY like that rail. Easiest attachment to the barrel nut I’ve done on any AR I’ve built.

I got to sight it in this morning! Nice and accurate as you should expect from a 10/22. Ran subsonic ammo through it and it was nice a quite. I really like the Barska scope too... it did great on its lowest 3X setting. When I have more time I'll see how it does at long range.

I've shot great groups with it on an AR15 from a concrete table. The QD mechanism gets loose easily, and it has some consequent give from side to side. If you want to just shoot from stable positions, cool. If you're thinking of putting this under a 15lbs plus rifle and shooting from barricades and stuff, I might say go with something better.

I have the same scope (BDC version) on my Mkii, and it does pretty well. So far the BDC marks have been pretty accurate with just about any ammunition I shoot through it.

It's an Atlas clone. It's been great for a weekend shooter like myself. I will say that the tension knob that controls the swivel is poorly designed. It's an easy fix though with a lock washer. Very solid budget bipod

I'm partial to the nikon m-233 or p-223, they also have a 308 variant for a bit more. The p-223 runs sub 150 at cabellas, but I'm sure you can find a cheaper one.

UTG Tactical OP Bipod

So far I love it. Very sturdy and well built.

I bought the gun today for $209. I swapped the barrel band for this which allowed me to mount this bipod. I got this scope, but I only paid $30 for it. Does anything else need to be done, or what would all of you recommend? Trigger work or a barrel replacement? I like the stock as is.

I'd ditch the idea of using a R700, go Tikka Compact Tactical Rifle or Bergara HMR.

Bergara comes with a fully adjustable stock (adjustable cheek riser and length of pull via spacers). I'm not the biggest fan of the factory stock on Tikkas but they are rigid, and a KRG Bravo would be a budget friendly upgrade for the future.

A good bipod to start out with is a Harris HBLMS 9"-13" with the podlock to "lock out the bipod."

I've never had an issue with keeping my face on the gun and running a bolt while shooting right or left handed.

Don't think that attachment will work for the keymod though. The cheapest I've seen the attachment is around $50. I bought this one, and have also been super happy with it. QD makes it a snap to swap around between guns and it's built like a tank. Yeah, it's heavy, but IDGAF.

Normally the other option is a shooting bag / rest of some sort.

But I mean you can get a pretty cheap bipod for the same price as well.

There are similar, but this is the cheapest on Amazon currently. I have a knockoff and a legit Atlas. The knockoff needed a little filling to get everything tight, though survived a year of shooting, and 4 PRS format club matches before a part broke - not terrible.

here it is. Used it today for the 1st time. No issues at all, worked fine. Hooked right up to the front sling post, very easy to attach and remove!

Pretty sure the Primos Trigger Stick monopods and bipods automatically slide out when you release the trigger. They come with yokes to hold a gun but they unscrew to reveal a standard thread you can use with a camera.

Get a different bipod and mount if you want to lighten up the front, like this one. You will lighten up more than if you went with a shorter handguard. Course you could do both, but I would start with the bipod and mount first.

Atlas are top of the line, however Harris are the measuring stick everything is compared to. I have both Harris and Caldwell 9"-13" that have rotation and notched legs. The Caldwell is a piece of junk in comparison.

I agree with the others. Go cheap. I own a Harris HBRM-S which I use on my Savage. I have a Caldwell XLA for my 10/22s. They function nearly exactly the same. The Harris is obviously more robust and will take a beating out in the field better but I think it's overkill for the 10/22. I chose to spend a little more on the Caldwell (over the CVLIFE) as I was more familiar with the brand name and they make a pivot lock which I like. I would imagine the quality and materials are about the same between this and the CVLIFE one (as they're both probably made in China). In the 14 months I've had the Caldwell, I've only had one issue and that is the rubber padding that goes between the barrel and the bipod has fallen off twice. It's still sticky-ish so I just place it back on but someday I'm going to need to glue it or peel the other off and use some rubber strips from Home Depot.

The tech sights come highly recommended and they seem to work pretty well but I plan to swap them out for a scope after the Appleseed. No complaints about them at all, I just think I'd prefer a little magnification. Still new to all this so maybe I'm wrong but I really loved shooting my AR with the new optic.

Bipod was just an Amazon cheapie. I didn't even end up using it that day because it felt too high for the bench I was at. I also had problems with the Hogue stock and getting a good sight picture so I swapped back to the wood stock for the next trip.

I put a Harris on the front stud. You can get an adapter to mount a rail segment to a stud, but they add alot of bulk to the setup. If money is an issue, one of these Harris clones will get the job done for bench and level ground shooting:

UTG Bipod. Basically a Harris bipod but 1/3 of the price. As my brother would say, "this thing is titties".

UTG front and rear iron sights. These I'm actually a little guilty about trying but they're irons, they're cheap, and they're adjustable. They're not as good as my friend's Troys and they're not as light as my sets of Magpuls but god damn they just work and work well.

Lastly, my ultimate guilty pleasure "let's just see what happens" purchase. UTG 3-9x50mm scope for my bolt action 223. Holy hell, ~500 rounds through it, I don't adjust anything unless I change ammo and I'll be damned if it isn't as clear as my friend's nikon 3-9x40 but it damn sure is brighter.
