Why, yes.. yes I do.

Same, tons of broken nails and time spent trying a million different nails / glues / ideas.

Know that I never ever tried "crazy glue" .. I didn't want to damage my nails with that stuff.

So, I opted for "glue-dot" like removable nail glue tabs. Some are garbage, some or OK, a few are GREAT. Here is great:

They will usually stay on for 2 or 3 days, and they are cheap enough they are super easy to replace. Plus, these roll right off your nails and the fake nail, so PERFECT. (some don't and are a pain to remove, forcing you to "remake" the nail every time.)

Get a good nail clipper like

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY.. 400 grit sandpaper. Use that to shape the nail, then rub the sandpaper on itself to make it more like 1200 grit (smoother yet) and use that to "buff" the nail. (use the sandpaper on your real nails as well to be sure they are perfectly smooth.)

Use your thumb nail to rub on the real nails and fake nails to make sure you don't have any chippy spots, it should feel perfectly smooth.

Oh that magnetic scrubber sounds so cool, what a good idea! I only clean my pieces with ISO and salt once a week, but love keeping my bowl downstems clean after each sesh, makes such a difference in how clean the hit is for me! Also, I’ve spent many days where I’d run dry, and use a small dull knife, pair of tweezers, and/or various other tools and scrape so much kief out of my grinder I can’t believe it every time.

After the ingrown toenail tool discovery, I started looking at everything with a new set of eyes. Anything had potential to be the next best weed tool haha. My overall essentials are a small natural bristle dense makeup brush, the toenail too, tweezers, knife, standard straight pokers, Bobby pins, actual pipe cleaner, alcohol wipes, teaspoons with fun designs, mini shovels, and other stainless steel tools made for dermatology or ear cleaning.

I was a CHRONIC nail biter. Like you would puke at the site of my nails. I bit them past the quick and they bled quite often. I quit in Jan of 2010 and while my nails still aren't super strong, they are WAY stronger than they were when I was shredding them to bits. I would recommend you use this Sally Hansen nail oil, it has Vitamin E in it which is great for strengthening your nails and the product itself is also inexpensive. If you want to spend a little more, you can buy Nailtique, which I hear works wonders though I never used it at $30 a bottle. I would also recommend some good old fashion patience in letting them grow out. Good luck!

OK! Short lesson time :D First thing to know is that the cuticle isn't what you think it is! Read this blog entry :)
Ok, now that you know what cuticles actually are, first step is to moisturize those mofos! Even if you just rub in lotion when you put lotion on your hands, they NEED moisture. Preferably use a cuticle balm or oil, and don't forget to apply it to your nails as well!

Next, you wanna remove your cuticles, put on a cuticle remover and push them with a cuticle stick and you can wipe them off with a tissue. This is important because polish doesn't stick to the cuticle. Also, though you aren't supposed to trim the eponychium, I still do because honestly, mine are completely unruly. If you trim them do as little as possible.

Then if you don't mind my saying, you could be perpetuating the problem. You have to be careful to not clip the edges in a pointy angle, but instead clip them square and then carefully file them so they're a bit rounded--they'll still be pushing against the skin but they won't be pointy and diggy so it hurts much less. And they make special files for ingrown toenails that are made small enough to fit under the corner. Also, once you can get under the corner a little, try pushing some cotton fluff under it, to raise it a little. It can relieve a bit of the pain and help the nail grow free of the abused skin more easily instead of growing and continually pushing. Do this during your next "cycle," and in a few weeks you'll be ingrown-toenail-free and, more importantly, never have them again. I haven't had one in 20 years.

BTW, I asked about what made it happen because there ARE times an ingrown toenail just requires medical attention--I had a cousin who just had the whole toenail removed because it never stopped. But that's pretty rare. Usually you can fix the problem yourself.

This little tool helped my toes so much. It made it super easy to dig out a toe nail piece I didn't even know was there. I almost wish I could put it back and do it again because the relief was so great.

Try to grow the nail out and trim or file it down evenly. If I feel like I’m getting an ingrown nail, then I lift the corners of the nail and put a piece of cotton between the nail and the skin and it helps it grow correctly. There are also some products on amazon that could help

If you can get the infection to go away, you should find a good place to get a pedicure. My place is really good at lift the nail out, but not all places will be.

As someone who's clumsy and unlucky I've experienced 10 or so nail injuries split between my feet and hands. I recall growing somewhat concerned that the new growth appeared to be digging under the skin the first 2-3 times. Although both injury types of ripping off vs. blood pooling below the nail, I recall they both followed a similar healing process. I really wouldn't be concerned about anything other than an infection. Take a look at google images and see if one appears similar to your situation and see what the outcome was.

  EDIT: It's a little hard to see unless you open the picture all the way up, but it's not just that the nails are longer, but that the skin around the nails and cuticles is much healthier. On Day 1 you can see flaking skin and spots where I had pulled the skin in runners toward the knuckle. Those are gone by day 28!

Be careful of infected ingrown toe nails. I had one removed and the doc didn't give me antibiotics. The infection traveled up to the lymph node in my upper thigh. Yuk.

Until the day you accidentally piss off the attendant, or get one who is having a bad morning, and your vacation is ruined by the minimum wage flunky who isn't actually empowered to make any decisions and fears for their own job.
