Bang for your buck you're going to have a hard time finding a better TV than the Panasonic S60. It's a pretty standard entry level plasma, but its picture quality really is quite incredible for its cost. You get some very basic Smart features, but as you said those aren't super important. Those features won't hurt the TV's input latency so gaming will be rather good in that regard. It's connectivity is limited offering only 2 HDMI ports and 1 Component/RCA port in the back. It's also a TV that I would definitely recommend you not run it in Vivid Mode or any high intensity picture setting for the first 100 or so hours on the TV, just to help avoid as many image retention and burn in issues as possible. It has the standard feature set to deal with those things, but you don't really want to put yourself into a bad situation to begin with. A 60" on Amazon is listed at $1,149.99 and the 65" is going to be less than $1,699.99. Based on the pricing you should definitely look at getting this TV professionally calibrated to get the absolute picture quality possible.

Alternatively if you wanted to go LED I'd say a Sony W900A with a sale price is going to be pretty competitive as well. It's got pretty much all the features you'd want at the moment, and it does offer 3D which offers some pretty nice features for gaming. Despite the large amount of processing on this TV, its Game Mode shuts a great deal of that off, giving it very good latency times. The downside is pretty much the price. The TRILUMINOS display helps with colours but it adds a ridiculous cost to the TV. A 55" will cost you $2,298.00 on Amazon with their current sale pricing. I would also strongly recommend getting this TV professionally calibrated, which is an extra cost you'll have to factor in as well.

The problem with the Sony though is that at that price, you should be getting the Panasonic VT60 instead anyways. It's going to give you one of the absolute best pictures you can possibly get (period) especially given your room environment. It's also fully loaded with features (Smart, 3D, Built in Skype Camera, Voice Activation etc), and despite that will still sport some decent latency times. It's definitely the slowest of the 3, but it's on the better side of average in terms of TVs in general. Unless you are like, MLG Halo caliber you're unlikely to notice any issues with input latency. The 55" on Amazon doesn't have a definitive price without putting it into your cart (which I was too lazy to sign in to do), but does show a reduction from their base pricing of $2599.99 (a used one is listed at $2199.95). While you can still get a bit more performance out of this TV if you get it Calibrated, it's not actually super necessary considering how good the default THX Calibration Modes are on the TV (which come by default).

I'll mention the Samsung F7100 as well just due to the sale pricing Amazon has at the moment. It's latency times are going to be pretty average as far as TVs go (making it the worst of the TVs mentioned so far). Out of the box the picture quality on this TV is super adjusted and frankly just bad, though with proper adjustments it actually sports a pretty strong picture. Definitely not a TV to buy without getting it properly calibrated. The problem you'll run into though is that I'd still prefer the picture of the S60 over this given the lighting you've described for your room. The only reasons to go with this TV over the S60 is; if you were absolutely terrified of any potential burn in or image retention image retention; if you simply wanted to go LED over plasma for whatever reason; if you absolutely could not deal with 2 HDMI ports and didn't want to get an HDMI splitter for the S60; or if you really just had to have the full Smart Feature set and / or wanted the 3D that badly and didn't want to spend the extra for the other two 3D TVs I mentioned. Amazon pricing has the 55" listed at $1,697.99 on sale.

Rtings.com is a good review site to compare specific models.
IMO, you should get a TCL Roku TV if you are on a budget. If good HDR is important to you get the P series. The P series offers one of the best smart tv interfaces out right now, 3 HDMI ports, deep black levels (not OLED good) but good for the price. If you just want a good 4k set, and don't care about high quality HDR, get the S series. They are both good values at amazon right now with out a black friday deal. I'm not sure but I doubt they will be discounted much more. OLED is top of the line in terms of picture quality. Currently OLED is only made by LG and Sony. I prefer the LG mainly for its smart tv interface but both are remarkable. Perfect black levels are among the many positive qualities of OLED. Both the 2017 OLEDs I mentioned support 4k Dolby Vision and HDR 10 (so does the TCL P series.) Just be aware of burn in with OLEDs. Might want to get a warranty for your expensive TV. Good luck!

First off, I think this is the most elaborate contest I've ever participated in, so congratulations for that :P Fear cuts deeper than swords. I hope some of my items are awesome enough for some extra credit ;) Also I wasn't sure if duplicates are allowed. I will revise if necessary.

1.) Something grey and it's been on my wishlist.

2.) Rain, well not technically rain, she is a water bender :P Previously on my wishlist.

3.) Unusual, I think this is something I would use like twice a year. With ice cream or cereal.

4.) Someone else My sister and I want to start playing tabletop games. Previously on my wishlist.

5.) "Book" I took a little bit of liberty with this one because it's a graphic novel. But it's Batman, so...(Previously on my wishlist).

6.) Under a dollar.

7.) Cats There's a catbus in it, which is pretty much the best part of the movie. Previously on my wishlist.

8.) Beautiful As a Star Wars fan having the original trilogy on Blu Ray would be beautiful to me. I love high definition movies, especially ones that are aesthetically pleasing. Previously on my wishlist.

9.) Movie As a Browncoat, I would encourage anyone who has a remote interest in Sci-Fi to give this a chance. Previously on my wishlist.

10.) Zombie tool I don't think this needs explanation.

11.) (Updated) Useful for future. I have a desire to create meaningful video games. Previously on wish list.

12.) Add on I actually had this on my wishlist but removed it because add-on items are lame.

13.) Most expensive As previously stated, I want to be a game developer/designer so not only would it be fun to play with, I could create with it too. Previously on list.

14.) Bigger than breadbox Total in the box it is bigger than a breadbox. Previously on wishlist.

15.) Bigger than a golf ball It's a large book. Previously on wishlist.

16.) Smells good As a guy...I enjoy the scent of lavender.

17.) Safe for children toy I don't think this needs any introduction of why it's awesome.

18.) Back to school drawing helps keep me sane. Previously on my list.

19.) Current obsession I'm a noob to tabletop games. But have been wanting to get into it obsessively within the past month or so. And this also takes my love of A Song of Ice and Fire into the mix. Previously on list.

20.) [Amazing] (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR-65X900A-65-Inch-120Hz-Ultra/dp/B00BSREQI6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1376281533&sr=8-4&keywords=4k+tv) I've seen one of these in person at the mall and it literally made me stop walking the resolution was so incredible. I know it's as expensive as dicks...but man...when these are affordable...

Bonus 2) Made in Oregon I would have put Tillamook Ice Cream, since it's pretty awesome...but alas not on Amazon.

Edit: Changed an item because I saw it won't count because it's a duplicate.

I have the https://www.amazon.com/TCL-65S405-65-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01NA00WW3

But the P series is a little better with its backlighting AND it has Dolby Vision if thats important to you.

The S has HDR 10 and is fine for my needs. I have a 4k DVD player and watch a lot of 4K HDR Netflix content and for what I paid (650.00 last Nov) it's a great bargain. I play a lot of Overwatch on PS4 too and its beautiful (has game mode with low input lag). My friend has a 55" version and really likes it too. This is my second TCL. I also have a 25" HD non smart tv that I bought a few years back when they first started out. It still works and has a great picture.

Is it perfect? Absolutly not. Is it the best in this price range. I personally believe so.

u/SsurebreC · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Anytime someone tells me they want an X" TV, I typically shake my head. Where did you get this number from? Try this link, you might not need something that large.

I have a huge living room but where I sit is about 10' away. My 46" TV is just fine. Doing the math on this will save you hundreds of dollars. Measure your living room (or wherever this will be) and do the same measurement at a regular store if you want to see what it'll look like.

As far as brand, I bought a 46" 1080P, 120hz Samsung four and a half years ago and I've had zero problems with it. If you're a member of BJ's or Costco, they have better deals than Walmart Best Buy (and unlike Best Buy, they won't be sold out as quickly). I bought a bedroom TV (Samsung 32" 1080P 120hz for $249 last year at BJs). If you can wait, there's still deals to be had for Black Friday that'll be cheaper than now. TV's also really go on sale before Superbowl.

It's out of your price range but I found these for you: http://amzn.to/1ue4YJg. Seems like this is your best bet as far as specs, but I don't know the company.

u/mpioca · 3 pointsr/truegaming

I got the graph from here and I'm fairly certain it's correct for most of the population. Sony and THX also seem to back this up.

From the Sony FAQ of the XBR-65X900A:

>How close to the TV must I sit to appreciate 4K?
The short answer is that between 5 and 6 ft. is the ideal viewing distance for a 55” or 65” Sony 4K Ultra HD TV.

>However, on a 55“, you can now sit as close as 3.6 ft and enjoy a visibly smoother and more detailed picture (e.g you won’t see the individual pixels). On a 65“ TV, you can sit as close as 4.2 ft. to appreciate 4K.

>Since the pixels on a 4K Ultra HD TV are four times smaller than on an HDTV, it becomes harder to see them. In fact, you can sit closer to a 65” Sony 4K Ultra HDTV than you can to a 35” HDTV. When you sit closer to the screen, you feel like you are immersed in the action. You get the same visual impact as you would sitting in the best seat at a movie theater.

From THX:
>On a 50-inch 1080p HD display, most consumers can begin to distinguish individual pixels only when standing within six feet of the screen. Therefore if your viewing distance is 10 feet or greater, an Ultra HD 50-inch display will likely have little perceived benefit in terms of image clarity and sharpness)

What would the best 65 inch TV deal be for under 1100? Ideally 1100 is the top, but if there is something better for under 1500 I could swing that too. I was looking at the TCL 6 series from Best Buy and the Sony X900 from Amazon though the Sony is very close to above our budget.. Would these be good 4k tvs or are there other better options?

u/madhi19 · 1 pointr/canada

Did you try googling it? I did and that a WebOS TV from LG. They go for about $700 at best buy, but that Best buy for you! Best way to find reviews is to find the same model on Amazon.

The big thing you should look for is HDR support. Also 4k TV prices are dropping like stone. I got my Roku 43 for around $500 barely two months ago.

u/MirrorLake · 1 pointr/buildapc

There isn't much to pick from.

There is literally one 4K monitor on Newegg right now.

Everything would seem very tiny on the screen (text, pictures, windows, etc). In my personal opinion, 4K is still the territory of very wealthy folks looking to get extremely large TVs for their living rooms. People are anxiously awaiting the yet unnamed successor to Blu-Ray and want bigger, prettier TVs.

In reality, the only place you're likely going to see 4K this year is at movie theaters who have digital projectors. Still, it's not worth buying the screen before the format is released. You can't buy films on 4K unless you're a movie theater, so what's really the point?

If you're looking for 23-24inch monitors, they are all going to be 1080p or 1200p. You're best off just reading reviews of those monitors and figuring out which features you like best. I've seen newer Asus LED monitors that look incredible (and are super light/thin). I've personally been using a heavy Dell Ultrasharp 24" for a long time.

I bought a 55” 4K TCL Roku TV during Black Friday/cyber Monday sales last year for around $380.

No input lag, has a “game mode”. Standard 4K stuff looks great, it handles standard HD great too, Switch looks awesome on it.

It’s all around a great budget TV, it’s weakest points are it’s edge lit display, which as a result makes its HDR not that great. It supports HDR 10 and Dolby Vision, but it takes a lot of fiddling with the settings to get them looking decent, and then when you go back to non HDR stuff, the settings you set for HDR don’t look as good without it.

But for 4K non HDR stuff it looks great and standard non 4K stuff looks great on it too, and like I said the HDR isn’t BAD, it’s just not great.

I haven’t had any regrets, especially for the price I paid.

This is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07987KQBN but they’ve come out with newer models since this one, so you might be able to get something a little better for a similar price that might fix my couple gripes.

there are free os like linix and steam os. + we get real free games (https://club.ubisoft.com/nl-NL/ubi30). and a good 4k tv will cost you like 500-700 dollar: https://www.amazon.com/TCL-55US5800-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01BGC39VM/ref=sr_1_3?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1478765289&sr=1-3&keywords=4k+tv ( monitor for 100 dollar https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-21-5-Inch-HDMI-Monitor/dp/B015WCV70W/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478765040&sr=1-1&keywords=monitor). and the games are cheaper on pc and we keep our game when a new generration comes. and why do you need a controller all pc games can be played without a controller (you al ready have a controller). and the ps4 pro doesn't play game in 4k. and you guys dont have that many exclusives whit ps now and xbox and windows 10. and at last the pc is way cheaper over time bacause our games are cheaper (and we have steam sales) and we dont have the pay for online.

They do it for items like this and this and this.

It's pretty common with electronics. OP's "this made me go to Amazon instead!" is silly because as you can see, Amazon does it, too. They'd have been no more able to help him as Best Buy.

I'm going to purchase a pair of KEF Q150 speakers and I'm looking for a good receiver/amp recommendation.

The inputs will be from my computer which has a sound card and also USB of course and from my TV which has optical and 3.5mm output.

For now I'm not going all out and don't need anything that is capable of surround sound, more speakers or bluetooth. Mainly just want the speakers to sound the best I can for something under $250. I'm assuming I'll want a built-in amp for the receiver as well.

EDIT: What does everyone think of this receiver? Onkyo TX-SR383

u/jhue1898 · 1 pointr/sonos

I believe I’ve read on this subreddit (but haven’t tried myself) that you can AirPlay from an AppleTV to the Beam, but as others have said, I would recommend just getting a television. If it’s important enough that you have sound at Beam quality, it’s probably worth the extra couple bucks.

Just spent 3 minutes on Amazon. Started at TV, filtered to 32" or less, and found this guy for $149 that has ARC and optical, and is 32” at 1080p (plus, has Netflix etc. on board, so your ChromeCast or AppleTV becomes optional - unless you just plain want one 😀. Hard to beat the price, in my head.

u/thatACDCguy · 7 pointsr/smashbros

Here are some links I found on Amazon for some pretty cheap options (and there will likely be some very good discounts during Black Friday as well)

u/Judaicyrus · 1 pointr/PS4

Costs about 400-500 bucks. Is a 4k tv and has only 1 frame lag on 4k mode which is amazing for a 50-inch Tv. You can even play competetive games like Street Fighter with it. https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-D50u-D1-50-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B016C64ENE

Samsung of course is more visually stunning because they have extra crap technologie that is driving the frame lag higher and higher. If you are a casual player who plays only Uncharted, assassins creed etc. then a Samsung is the better choice because the lag wont matter. If you play competetive games then this TV is your choice.

u/oozles · 1 pointr/Televisions

In the same boat as you OP. Amazon has a 40" one from TCL, a brand I'm unfamiliar with, for $270 that I'm thinking about purchasing. If you have a PS4 Pro and want to do 4k there is this 43" one for $350.

Anyone have opinions on TCL?

edit: After glancing around for like two minutes on this sub it seems like TCL certainly won't be as high quality as some of the more expense brand names, but they still produce a pretty solid product for the price.

u/drnick5 · 1 pointr/TVadvice

On a quick Amazon search, this seems like a fantastic option for you

Sony 48" with Wall Mount bundle

Just noticed the TV you linked was a 4k TV. With a TV 50" or smaller, I don't really see the purpose of 4k, so I'd go with a 1080P myself. But if you want a 4k TV under $500 thats as big as you can get, this 55" TCL Roku TV is your best option.

If you don't care about the Roku stuff, want to stick with a more known brand and don't mind dropping to a 50" screen, this Sharp 50" 4k TV is another option.

Vignetting are dark areas around the corners of your screen.

Usually budget TVs like Vizio's have edge lighting (LED lights that are placed along the edge of your TVs), the bulbs do not do a good job of lighting the TV evenly, so you get dark areas, especially around corners.

This is the TV I got, which by all means is a great gaming TV, but the vignetting is pretty noticeable. You stop paying attention to it after a while, but definitely something to consider.

Vizio D43-D1 for $400. Great TV, free shipping.

u/crazydave33 · -1 pointsr/xboxone

I bought this Hisense TV in July 2016. In December 2016 it got a firmware update that enable HDR. Keep in mind this is the cheapest entry level TV with true HDR. It looks pretty good for entry level. Of course it won't compete with the higher end models due to the quality of the 4k screen but if you want to experience HDR for cheapest possible then get this.

Btw the true firmware verison should be V00.01.00a.G1027.

That has the HDR update. Anything less that G1027 does not support HDR over HDMI 2.0

I own the KDL-40R450a paired with an Xbox One and i have not complained about response time once. Furthermore the contrast and color handling is excellent. You can definitely find TV's that have smoother response times but think of this Sony as the better of the all-around TV's for gaming.

Here's a cheap one on Amazon. People will tell you that because it is so small, you won't see a benefit, but that really depends on how close you sit to your TV.

https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-43UH6100-43-Inch-Ultra/dp/B01CF07L54/ref=sr_1_1?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1466429341&sr=1-1&keywords=hdr+4k+tv&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_three_browse-bin%3A7688788011

Also, this is about the very cheapest model you could get that supports 4k and HDR, so if you can afford more, you should look for a better model.

Same model. So, $900CAD.

We get a lot of shit deals with tech in Canada, and this is a good deal for once. And yes, those of us close to the border could just cross and buy, but then we're paying import taxes and gas.

Edit: Looks like the larger 49" model is $649 at Amazon. So $900 is definitely inflated, but I can't find it for $400 anywhere.

  1. Fancy TV that you can save a whole $53/year in energy!

  2. Overly fancy tissue box. It isn't over $10,000 until you factor in the $5 shipping (so convenient!)

  3. A definitely not overpriced item

u/patioboey · 1 pointr/Monitors

It would help to start with what you are looking for in a monitor. I don't know what features the ps4 pro will have but i don't think any specific tv/monitor will be needed, any 4k display with the proper inputs should work fine.

First though, 4k monitors and tv's are priced very similarly, so if you are thinking of buying a 4k tv i would suggest getting that for a console instead of a 4k monitor, unless you have other uses planed for the monitor.

[Here] (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009659CVF&cm_re=4k-_-24-009-659CVF-_-Product) and [Here] (https://www.amazon.ca/VIZIO-D50-D1-50-Inch-Smart-Model/dp/B01A0LGUOI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473361005&sr=8-2&keywords=tv+4+k) are two of the cheapest 4k displays i could find after a quick search, one a monitor and one a tv. personally unless you plan to use the monitor for a computer you buy in the future, i would go with the smart tv.

The other half of the joke doesn't age quite as well though:

> "That is a $200 plasma TV you've just killed!"

Back when this episode aired, this was a joke because it was a laughably small amount of money to spend on a TV.

Today, $200 isn't that absurd. It will buy you a quite decent budget TV: https://www.amazon.com/TCL-40S305-40-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B01N2UQ43P/

Also, I know I'm nitpicking as this point, but that is clearly a LCD TV. I don't think plasmas were ever sold on the consumer market in sizes that small.

Most people claim you cannot even see 4k differences on a screen smaller than 44+ inches, and most monitors are 19-24 inches, so my vote would be tv.

I luckily have both a 4k monitor and TV, and to me, you do notice better quality overall on a 4k TV with HDR.

My TV is 44 inches and cost 550 dollars if you're interested in it. It's an LG like the one linked earlier, but a TV instead of a monitor - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CF07L54/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Nope, avoid it. A bit of advice for Amazon, the "Sale price" is more often than not it's actual retail price. When you see products like that with $130 savings, it's usually BS. Personally, I'd wait for Black Friday or some other event to pick up a new TV, as their's usually really good deals that time pretty much every year. Though if you're dead set on picking one up right now why not take a look at this LG TV for a bit extra.

UHD is a resolution, 3840x2160p. Nothing to do with panel technology. You can buy some extremely shit UHD TV's. Frankly, most people sit too far away to even notice full HD vs UHD aka 1080p vs 2160p.

OLED is king for response times and contrast. If you only watch movies it is the best. I would take the TCL if you value the size over image quality, or if you do gaming + TV.

Realistically, even if you did find a TV that supported a legitimate 240Hz refresh rate, you would only be able to make full use of it at 1080p due to how difficult it would be to run. But as others have said, most TVs use a 120Hz refresh rate in addition to some kind of other hardware tweaks to make an artificial 240Hz that doesn't look very good.

Take a look at this chart found on their Amazon page. See how it says 120Hz CMI vs. 60Hz without CMI. That means it is not true 120Hz.

That TV is listed as 2k video resolution, making it sound like it doesn't support 4k input at all. It is pretty hard to tell from online. It will sometimes say on the port itself what it supports (mine labels what ones support 4k@30 and which are 4k@60). Also the color quality might affect what resolutions it can run. My TV won't run HDR at higher resolutions and can only use 4:2:0, which looks a bit different than HDR or 4:4:4 or RGB. HDR also has higher input lag.

TVs have high input lag. Personally I can't tell the difference without using a TV and monitor side by side (even then maybe not).

Not all TVs support input at their max resolution/refresh rate. Some TVs (and gpus) don't even support 4k@60 HDMI input, not to mention 4k@120/240. They will be able to display that on native apps, but not over HDMI (and TVs don't support display port, so no luck there).
