I've been doing this since 2008. Just connect to the higher power device as a USB host. Here: https://www.amazon.com/CHENYANG-Ultra-Adapter-Connector-Tablet/dp/B015GZOHKW/

You'll need to fetch yourself one of these tiny micro USB to USB A adapters. I got mine on Amazon UK right here, but you can find them elsewhere as well. This set looks identical on Amazon US.

You stick the micro end into the Leap Motion like this photo shows. After that, just plug it right in, no special angle or anything, there's still a huge gap. I was tempted to put some sticky material behind it to keep it in place and prevent stress on the port, but the Leap Motion unfortunately is always powered on, and heats up quite a bit.

I'm getting full coverage of my FOV in this position, and it turns out that the sensor runs at 115Hz/FPS, so trying it out in the VR Visualizer diagnostic program that displays passthrough from the sensor was a very comfortable experience ... I wish my Index passthrough cameras would start working :(

Oh right, forgot one important point: The tracking is a lot worse if you put the frunk cover on over it. It's easy to see why by using that Visualizer program I mentioned. The plastic is too reflective, causing glare from the Leap Motion's infrared LEDs.

Bonus pic: the new Index adapter from Tundra Labs arrived today, too! One less wall plug required now.

The leap motion actually fits in the frunk with a mini adapter like this one https://smile.amazon.de/gp/product/B015GZOHKW/

You can still expand memory and add a small hub to add more devices. As of right now I've been setting up magic mirrors with these;

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015GZOHKW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488292885&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=chenyang+ultra+mini+dm+micro+usb+5pin+otg+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41OvcscfhVL&ref=plSrch

And a wifi adapter with an antenna on my zero's. These new model W's make things much more compact if the antenna is strong enough.

I can also use the same adapters with the new model, add a decent wifi dongle and have a much more compact fruitywifi setup.

I'm going to try and get my hands on just one and test the range before I get carried away and have a stack of 20 doin doing nothing.

Edit; autocorrect hates me

I have the 64 GB, it still nice to be able to have some spare space though, I use one of these to connect a USB stick a lot, it should work for an external drive also;

If your fingers are so fat you can't use the touchscreen, you could use a mouse through usb otg. Here's a 5 pack of tiny adapters for cheap

$12.90 USD for a Linux computer with 128MB RAM. It has USB host and WiFI. But the USB host is a USB OTG port, so you may need these.

Yep, I'm with you entirely, man: I've gone a bit sour on the typical Pro Micro-based, sandwich-style boards. And for exactly the reasons you articulated. We can do better! I think many designers have economy and low complexity as goals, and that effects the feature set in a way that I don't really care for.

I may have overspoken: the UT47 fixes the first issue (which is my main issue) with Pro Micro builds: the fragile USB port. It uses an internal USB bridge so that the micro USB port on the Pro Micro doesn't receive any wear and tear. It's such an incredible obvious feature that it becomes pretty irritating that most other similar boards don't do this.

Our other issues can be mitigated to varying degrees by good component selection, and effort, on our part. The potential for needing to desolder is completely mitigated by using sockets for the Pro Micro. For thickness considerations (a definite focus of mine), low profile sockets can place the controller board very nearly flush with the PCB. And in the case of the UT47, using the right bits (as demonstrated here) can eliminate any additional thickness associated with the USB bridge. Of course, these steps still won't yield a build quite as thin as one with an on-board controller. I've come to accept that as a fact of life, even though I don't love it. And, for the bootloader, all I can say is that I'd love to have a dummy's guide to flashing a better bootloader, because yeah.... the stock one isn't great.

Happy building, man!

you can get even better: a tiny insert that converts a USB plug to USB-OTG without a whole extra dongle https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GZOHKW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

effective and really handy to have around

u/BalrogTheLunchbox · 2 pointsr/EDC

Other one looks like a USB light. Bought a couple packs and have one on my keychain. Comes in handy as type a ports are still ubiquitous, but looking for either a type c version and a mini type a micro converter that will hug to the usb light.

u/iregret · 2 pointsr/pihole

In that picture I think they're using one of these adapters.

MagPi Issue 42 is dedicated to starter projects for the RPi Zero. They have a bunch of other issues on the rest of the RPi family. I'm using one stuck on the back of my TV as a virtual aquarium/fireplace just playing videos in a loop. You'll need a mini HDMI adapter and microUSB OTG adapter to use external displays and USB adapters.

u/Go_Away_Masturbating · 2 pointsr/virtualreality

A $5 adapter from Amazon is far more obtainable than this 3D printed mount which most will have to order from expensive printing services like Shapeways or wait till someone resells them with a markup, and the $5 adapter makes the Leap Motion sit properly inside the Frunk.

These Gizmo's are nifty, inline standard to micro USB adapters ... (Or you could just use a micro usb drive)

u/Nephiel · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I use an adapter like these. It fits inside the USB plug.

I use this for the type A to micro, and this for micro to C

We've had this discussion on this Sub previously and after some back and forth and testing, we discovered that you need to have a micro-USB OTG cable. It seems that the OTG cables for USB-C only intend for the Phone side (USB-C) to be the host instead of the controller side. So most likely you will need a micro-USB to USB-A OTG cable followed by a USB-A to USB-C cable.

I use the following two things:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GZOHKW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There's a lot of talk in here about OTG conveters... in case anyone was looking for one, these work nicely for USB drives and the like, I assume they'd work for something like this with an android phone.

I have a super micro USB otg adapter, it plugs into micro USB and then you slide it into a USB male connector, turning it into a normal USB port basically here's the link

And I use a USB hub similar to this one, Ethernet and 3 ports, should handle keyboard and usb fine, higher powered accessories may need more power, but I've been fine using controllers, keyboards etc

Just reread your post I'm sorry I didn't realize what you meant, as for something for external drives, generally external drives will be external powered, if not it'll be powered through usb you will need a powered USB hub, no way around it, ones that are powered through usb use one is for data and another USB for power

u/FPSXpert · 1 pointr/psych

Do you have any Android devices lying around? Could put all the episodes on a flash drive and combine that with a USB on the go system and watch the episodes locally without streaming hassles. Not as large of a setup there but you mentioned the iOS issue. Anyone know a way to make something like this work with an apple device?

Mods, please note these are not affiliate links. I just googled these products to save OP the time.

u/nevezen · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I use these for any properly formatted flash drive..

u/SgtFalstaff · 1 pointr/MintyPi

I just used this adapter https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GZOHKW/ and had no trouble using a keyboard to set up my WiFi.

The wiki has an article about other methods to set up WiFi and load games - https://www.sudomod.com/wiki/index.php/MintyPi_V3_Transferring_ROMs

u/jamescobalt · 1 pointr/leapmotion

The frunk has a Type A port, not Type C. I *think* this is the adapter that works for connecting a Leap to it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GZOHKW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1XXFBQWM27KTO&psc=1

u/4lan9 · 1 pointr/nexus6

I use a USB Ethernet Adapter with a OTG cable to download things quickly to my N6 when I need to. This might be your best option, it is amazingly fast too

[This is the OTG Adapter I use] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GZOHKW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

u/_The__Finn_ · 1 pointr/ender3

Can you solder? If so, plug the wifi adapter into the actual port, then snip a cable on one end, solder the wires to the pads on the underside, then plug the other end into the printer.

Pi zero works fine with the ender. Granted, plugins and cameras will bog things down some. I run a hypercube withbramps and drv8825's like this. I didn't have a spare lcd but I had a stack of pi zero's laying around. I even power the pi from the cubes PSU via a buck converter.

Edit: these come in handy as well and they're cheaper than otg cables.

u/Fordiman · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

The "neat" here is that the mod has close to the same form factor as a tallish Pi Zero - and is still smaller than a standard Pi. You got downvoted because you're suggesting something less neat.

Incidentally, I just picked up about 40 of these, which, aside from their basic use, make for easy-to-solder micro USB plugs.

u/lostguru · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

You're looking for male-to-male right? Maybe something like this would work?

*edit: This was in related. Probably more of what you're looking for, male micro USB to female USB.

u/s_i_m_s · 1 pointr/verizon

I wasn't actually recommending a case more something like this or this or a full size usb keyboard
Like I said more to keep up with but with a case stand could be a decent solution.

For functionality i'd go with something usb based if possible the bluetooth stuff all has a annoying delay since it switches the bt radio off after a few minutes of inactivity. It's only a few seconds and bt keyboards are still very popular so that part may not be a big issue to you.

The startup delay and occasional ghost keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeying of BT keyboards have killed them as an option for me. You can convert any usb or wireless usb full size or mini keyboard with something like this or this and avoid those problems but then you do gain a dongle to keep up with.

It's always something but it would still be nice if they just natively had a keyboard physical keyboard but it doesn't seem to be much on the market like that.

It's like trying to get a verizon flip phone with LTE they exist but you won't like the compromises you have to make to get one (only one on the market and it doesn't have a flashlight).

u/mxgian99 · 1 pointr/olkb

would still be useful to get an idea on how much height the PM with your 90 degree sockets would take up.

i took a closer look, so you bypass the micro-usb connector on the PM by soldering wire (or are they actually magentic wire?, where do you get that?) to the pads on the PM? i didn't even know you could do that! but that would help a lot with fitting a micro-usb pigtail.

though i've seen customer micro-usb pigtails made with these, https://www.amazon.com/CHENYANG-Ultra-Adapter-Connector-Tablet/dp/B015GZOHKW/ref=pd_ybh_a_37?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=D8C7S78X9B3HW3KM5T2Z

which are lower profile that canibalizing a micro-usb cable that has a thick connecter end

Yep!

If you have an apple device, there are similar options, depending on which one. same for usb-C.
