Reddit mentions: The best movie soundtracks

All right, THIS is the item I've found that I most want. And it's available used (I think?)

Why do I want it? Because it's a soundtrack for one of my all-time favorite games. I always loved the music from it, so this would be an amazing addition to my collection. Why do I love Japan? Well, it fascinates me, to be honest. The mix of modern and traditional that you'll see on the same street. Not to mention that they are the source of SO many great games and we all adore here in the States, as well as anime/manga that so many people love. They're a people that have recovered from WWII amazingly well, becoming quite the powerhouse despite their small land space.

Evgeny Kissin Plays Chopin - Kissin is widely considered to be the premier pianist as far as Romantic pieces, particularly Chopin, and this album demonstrates clearly why that is.

Immortal Beloved Soundtrack - arguably the perfect first Beethoven album, with very rich, high quality recordings featuring legends Sir George Solti and Murray Perahia.

Mahler: Symphony No. 8 in E-Flat Major - Adagio from Symphony No. 10 - winner of the Grammy in 2010 for best classical album, Michael Tilson Thomas leads the SF Symphony and Chorus in what I think is the single best performance of Mahler's 8th Symphony in my lifetime. In addition, MTT and the San Francisco Symphony tackled Mahler's 7th Symphony back in 2007 and produced another truly epic and fantastic album.

Get the version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons that's performed by Nigel Kennedy. Here's a link.

Another nice starting point (if you're completely in the dark when it comes to this kind of music) is with soundtracks. There's usually some variety and you can then pursue those composers you enjoy. It's also true though that you get some "film-specific" music, which might be a waste of money (if you end up actually paying for the music).

I like some of what's on the Master and Commander Soundtrack, as well as some of what's on the soundtrack to The Pianist. A no-brainer is the soundtrack to Amadeus.

If you're looking for vocal "classical", I recommend Maria Callas, as well as Ensemble Organum, The Sixteen, Oxford Camerata, and if you're looking for very early music, from the middle ages, Ony Wytars Ensemble and Unicorn Ensemble.

For classical guitar, look up Liona Boyd or Andres Segovia. They're pretty good. Also, Bach's Brandenberg Concertos, those are good. And Handel's "Water Music".

Apparently TWEWY went to great lengths to compress their songs and make space to fit a full soundtrack with lyrics. I think it really helped create the stylish Shibuya atmosphere they were after.

Also, the SOTC soundtrack was seriously worth every penny of the import price. The seamless music transitions from the ground to mounting a colossus are some of the best examples of dynamic music I can remember.

Whats "special" about this one? The bundle with digital copy?

Genuinely curious, because I just bought the signed copy on Amazon and wanted to make sure I don't miss out on that sweet bi-fold cover.

Also, I noticed the song "Spies Like Us" isn't on the "Spies Like Us: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack".

The Science Fiction Album

There are two soundtracks for 1.0. The first is called Music from Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, which features the full-length recordings. It has a picture of Eva-01 on its cover, and the tracks have French titles.

The second is simply Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, and it has the tracks edited for length as they are used in the actual movie. It has a plain white cover, and the tracks have alphanumeric codes as their titles.

Evangelion 2.0 and Evangelion 3.0 have only one soundtrack each. Correction: 2.0 was originally released as a one-disc release that had the music edited for the movie, and later got a special edition release that included a second disc with the original, unedited recordings.

Worth noting that ordering from the US costs £114 - which is cheaper than ordering from the UK (£144), however there's the issue of ease of return etc etc. I was able to easily return and replace my severely damaged copy when I ordered from Amazon UK, I'm not sure if this would be possible if ordering from the US. With the packaging being prone to being damaged (because of the weight of the vinyl and the relatively flimsy inner holding) I wouldn't trust international shipping...
