A few disclaimers:

I know I'm late to the punch, and I apologize. I also know I'm going to look like a crazy person for throwing so many items at you, so I apologize for that as well. I may also seem vaguely arrogant by the end of this, so please accept a third apology. I just like to take care of my electronics is all. My only credentials are anecdotal evidence that despite my rather rough job I've never even so much as cracked the screen on my cell phone so I like to think I'm pretty good at the "how do I prevent breakages" question.

Okay. So, I'm gonna rattle off a few items that I've bought for my own Switch, and my reasoning behind them. You DO NOT have to buy all of these items, but they are all useful on some level for the console.

The Joy-Con Controller If you're looking to get a second controller, start here. I'm sure you've figured out by now that one Joy-Con (JC) can be reconfigured to work as two controllers, so simply by buying a second JC you're now able to hit the 4-player local maximum for many of the Switch's games (including Mario Kart!). You can get the spouse, another kid, or even some friends playing during a party.

The Switch Pro Controller A more traditional-style controller. It's slightly cheaper and it's much more comfortable on large hands, but it CANNOT be split into two separate controllers like the Joy-Con can. Well, unless you get a saw or something but then it won't work at all anymore. Besides that it does function exactly the same as the standard JC controllers. There is also a wired version available that is even cheaper, but I personally have become spoiled in this wireless age and don't like cables dangling across my living room anymore.

Fitian Charging Dock for Joy-Cons Pretty self explanatory. Normally you charge your Joy-Cons by plugging them into the Switch, but if you have a second (or more) JC, it becomes a slight hassle to keep them all charged up. A charging dock can be a godsend. This is the one I use, simply plug it straight into your Switch Dock via USB.

FastSnail Joy-Con Grips There's a gazillion different versions of these things floating around, but these are the ones I personally use. I like them cause the shoulder L/R buttons are massive, and the grippy parts are really comfortable for extended use. Simply stick your Joy-Con halves into the plastic holders for a more comfortable grip. Holds them securely but they're still easy to pop back out as needed, no latches or screws or anything.

Orzly Carry Case ONE option for a carrying case. I was a little hesitant to recommend this particular item, but I may as well cause again, it's the one I use. The case itself is fine: durable, carries your Switch plus some games and accessories, and keeps them safe through your standards drops and bumps. However, if you fill it up as much as is shown in the pictures there on Amazon... At best you're gonna feel like you're mashing something, at worst you're gonna have trouble zipping it closed. What I've ended up doing is putting my Switch with an attached set of JCs, the games, and my adjustable stand (see next item) into the case, and then tossing the case plus whatever other particular accessories I need into my backpack. This case is NOT good to haul a lot of Switch stuff, JUST the console itself plus a handful of small bits for maybe a day trip or something. If you want to carry everything, look elsewhere. I've seen a few cases mentioned, but I can't recommend anything as I haven't tried anything.

Younik Compact Adjustable Stand I love this thing. If you're playing on the go and don't feel like holding it (and don't trust that stupid little kick stand on the back), you can unfold this thing and prop up the Switch on any flat surface for a much more comfortable viewing able. When you're done with it, you can fold it back flat and it fits nicely pretty much anywhere (like, for example, in the Orzly case I mentioned previously). Nintendo makes a first-party adjustable stand, but I actually like this one better. It costs a couple dollars less and feels sturdier. Its a luxury item to be sure, but it's nice to have when you want it.

Findway Protective Case A protective "jacket" for the Switch itself. I like this one because it snaps on and off of the Switch and JCs super easily, and is a sort of bendable plastic. Only 3 pieces: one for the tablet, and then one piece each for the left and right JCs. Easy to clean, too. Only drawback is that you HAVE to remove the jacket any time you want to dock the Switch in its charger. However, you're going to find that this is the case for any jacket that you want to buy for your Switch. You do NOT need to remove the jacket if you're simply sticking it in the aforementioned Adjustable Stand.

Pleson Tempered Glass Screen Protector Not much explanation needed here. I'm neurotic about getting screen protectors for all of my portable electronics, and I love the tempered glass ones. This one is cheap, it's durable, and it's easy to install with a steady hand. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend, even if only to keep your Switch looking nice through the wear and tear. You won't need to remove it for the dock, unlike the jacket.

I think that's everything for now. Again, I know it's a lot being thrown at you all at once, but you don't have to buy everything. This is all just stuff I've amassed for my own Switch that I've found useful or that I recommend. Pick and choose as you see fit. Feel free to shop around as well, these are just examples of all the particular items and there are MANY choices available for almost everything listed.

If you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

I looked online and saw prices ranging from $300-500. Is there any difference between these consoles other than the skin?

The $300 base model of the Nintendo Switch (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHP2ZK/) does not include any games, but is still what you should most likely buy. More expensive models may have games bundled or free in-game currency (e.g. Fortnite), but they shouldn't be more than $350 (plus tax). At $360, you're not really saving any money, and anything more expensive than THAT is from a third party trying to make a quick buck. The console itself currently has few variations; most of your customization will depend on what color controllers you get with the console.

What type of accessories am I going to need?

This depends on your use case. I'd recommend getting a screen protector (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/). If you expect to bring the Switch out of the house a lot, also get a case (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/). Anything else, like special controllers (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/) or a dock cover (https://www.etsy.com/listing/560319070/), is largely unnecessary right now; look into them when you find you need extra joy-cons (https://smile.amazon.comdp/B078GZM4H8/) or a tabletop stand (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/) for your Switch. In the end, you should not be spending more than $400 for the Switch, one game, and core accessories.

As for games, so far I planned on buying Smash Bros, Let's Go Pikachu, and One's Justice. Can you recommend any other games? I was never into Zelda but hear the new game is very good.

How old is your kid? Super Mario Odyssey (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY7GHKJ/) is fun, and has a great co-op mode if you want to play together. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also always a blast (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N1037CV/). I'm also a huge fan of Splatoon 2 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9QVIRV/), but it's probably better for older kids because it requires more dexterity. There's lots of games to recommend, but it'll help to know what your kid already likes... or what you want your kid to like ;)

Side note: To play online, you need Nintendo Switch Online (https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/). It's $20 a year for one ACCOUNT, or $35 a year for 8 accounts. Each account also has separate save files, if multiple people will be playing on the same Switch. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart both have online modes, but Splatoon's primary game modes are online-only.

Whats the difference between mario party and mario space odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey is an action-platformer for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party is a virtual board game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy is an action-platformer for the Wii, a completely different console.

Definitely a Screen Protector

A Travelling Case would be nice.

I also added Dr Scholls Moleskin to the front of my dock to reduce the risk of scratching the screen protector. (Two small strips on the parts inside the dock that are raised.)

A Memory Card also helps for the digital only games.

What color Switch did you get? I got the grey switch then bought a pair of Red Joycons and another pair of Blue Joycons. So in total I have a grey, red, and blue L Joycon and a grey, red, and blue R Joycon.

If you got the grey switch and then buy the [two color Joycon packs] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) then you won't be able to get one of each color for L/R without over paying. This is because the [two color Joycon packs] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) are always Red L and Blue R.

If you bought a neon switch, then buy the [two color Joycon pack] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) and a pair of Grey Joycons for all combinations.

Also, don't buy Joycons on Amazon, they are stupid expensive right now.

I don't have a pro controller yet, but people seem to love it.

Games:

Zelda = Must Buy

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe = Must Buy

1-2 Switch = Great for parties/friends

Snipperclips = Great for people who don't play games often (girlfriends/parents/kids). Secret here is to not explain how to play/what to do and let them have fun and try to figure out the puzzles on their own. Act like a support character and you'll have a blast watching them.

Binding of Isaac = I love this game, but put countless hours on the PC version. Mature themes

Super Bomberman R = Classic mode with easy CPUs is fun for roommates. I haven't played through the adventure mode yet.

Wonderboy = Cute/Fun side scroller.

Has Been Heroes = I don't have this yet, apparently very difficult.

Other notes:

I started collecting amiibos after getting a switch (Be very careful, it's easy to get addicted and drop a ton of money here).

I got a Joycon charging dock since the only way to charge extra pairs of Joycons without the Joycon charging dockis to rotate them in and out of the switch while it charges/docked.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

PS I love the Switch so much. It's definitely my favorite console ever.

I own what I think are the three most common (in the USA anyway):

  • RDS GoPlay (with case; and adding the "tape fix")
  • Satisfye (with slim or big cases)
  • Skull & Co Gripcase (with case)

With any of these, I highly recommend getting the cases. Once you put these grips on, the Switch doesn't fit into any standard Switch case. I failed to follow this wisdom with the first grip I purchased (the RDS GoPlay), but fortunately it fits into the Satisfye Slim case (probably the big one, too). I don't think the inverse would be true, as the GoPlay fits with room to spare. I'm assuming the actual GoPlay case would be too small for the Satisfye.

All three of these are comfortable and provide a substantial improvement over the Switch with nothing. All three of these cases have issues with docking. The Satisfye and RDS grips will not ever fit into the dock...they're just not designed for it. The Skull & Co was designed to fit into the dock, but they only just barely managed it. The fit is tight, and they also did not realize that Nintendo's docks are not all created equal, and some have a smaller gap, into which the Gripcase won't fit into. It's really a crapshoot whether your Gripcase will dock with your particular dock.

The Gripcase is the trickiest to remove of the three. If you do it wrong, you'll put noticeable "shearing" forces on your joycons, because you'll be leveraging them against their rails as you try to peel the case off. Make sure to watch Skull & Co's usage video on how to remove it.

The Satisfye only requires a careful sliding of the Switch, against some rubbery friction. The RDS case simply pops off after you flex the plastic clamps a bit. Ironically, the RDS is both the easiest to remove, yet also allows you to detach the joycons without removing the Switch from the grip--not an issue for a plane ride.

The Grip Case is the narrowest and most compact. For analog-stick intensive games, it provides a good grip, but doesn't give you "adult" thumb spacing. Your thumb knuckle may still need to bend quite a bit with your right hand. The Satisfye, OTOH, is explicitly asymmetrical to deal with this, and gives you a very good thumb placement onto the analog stick...at the expense of making the buttons a little harder to reach without adjusting your grip. The RDS is symmetrical, but "flares out" almost as widely as the Satisfye, so you can simply adjust your grip as appropriate.

To be honest, I use all three at different times. Specifically for a plane ride, I'd use the Satisfye. However, if I could keep/own only one to be used for all my grippy situations, I'd keep the RDS, simply because I find it to offer the best combo of comfort, versatility, and ease of use. The Satisfye is slightly more comfortable, but it needs to be removed more often (and removal itself is less convenient). The Skull & Co is the smallest/narrowest, but also least comfortable of the three (though still very comfortable compared to no grip), potentially somewhat versatile if it fits in your dock (but that's random chance), and trickiest--arguably scariest--to remove. OTOH, it also offers side & back protection for the Switch, since it's more like a silicone smartphone case. So if you are trying to increase the Switch's ruggedness, this is probably the best option of the three. Also of note: the Skull & Co grip case doesn't reliably fit into every Nintendo dock, but it certainly works with Skull & Co's own dock, which is a nice product if you're willing to take the buyer-beware risk of using third party docks. The Grip Case also offers multiple palm rest options, but none of them flare further out to the sides, I don't think even the newer, chunkier palm rest they've started selling would help with the right-thumb-to-analog stick spacing.

Pro Controller vs. Extra Joycons vs. Extra Joycons with Satisfye Mini Joycon Grip

Haven't bought a Switch yet but when I do, cost will be a factor. However, ergonomics will be prioritized over cost in the event that the best controller setup for me means I end up buying one less game right out the gate. I should mention that I'm going to buy the Satisfye Elite Bundle right away for undocked play. I honestly have no idea if I'll ever play the thing docked or enough to warrant any of the following options, which of course complicates matters. I don't think I'll ever crowd around the thing undocked with three other people but at least one other person, sure. I'm getting Mario Kart as one of my first games and if nothing else, that title will definitely see undocked multiplayer use. For the sake of argument, let's just assume that I will rarely play with the Switch docked but I still would like to have some flexibility for multiplayer use. I've done a lot of research on third-party solutions and I'm not entertaining anything other than what I've listed here. I don't like how some controllers are wired and therefor only work in docked mode or use batteries. Many controllers have attractive prices but only so-so reviews and lack the full functionality that you would get with either joycons or a pro controller. In fact, I can't find a single controller that can do everything that the joycons or pro controller can.

I'm looking at three distinct options and can't decide on which is best. Here they are:

Pro Controller
+

Best single-player option, full functionality

Most ergonomic docked option

Best two-player solution (other player uses standard joycon grip)

-

Would still need at least one more controller for four-player action

Not very portable

Might rarely or even never play docked

Extra Joycons

+

Per player cost is the most efficient

Enables four players

Supreme portability

Hard to say if playing docked will ever occur, or enough to justify other options

-

No good, ergonomic controllers for docked mode (if I ever even play docked, that is)

Keeping them charged becomes a minor annoyance

Worst option for two-player setups

Extra joycons w/ Satisfye Joycon grip

+

Enables four players -OR- Two players with grips (one ergonomic, one not)

Offers most flexibility for play styles

-

Most expensive option

Keeping them charged becomes a minor annoyance

Grip is not very portable, but more portable than the pro controller

Might rarely or even never play docked

Thanks in advance for any feedback you might have, I really appreciate it. For the record, I'm getting Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate as well as $60 e-shop credit for the eventual release of Animal Crossing. I also plan on playing Paladins and Warframe as well as subscribing to the online service.

u/raffiking1 · 1 pointr/GameTheorists

> you clearly havent seen in online gaming groups if you think people would take bad graphics, belive me.

yes these players exist, but they are in a heavy minority. There are much more players who don't care about graphics and want good games(fun games, good story, good gameplay, ...).

> the stuff with the 3ds and wii u the only games you saw most the features deployed (and to an extent in the wii) were first party games because they were so closed off which i agree is dumb but with the switch hopfully as they have anounced several 3rd party devs they will be able to use the hardware better and make games for it

just remember, when the Wii U was announced, there also were many third party titles announced.

> also side note not all computers work the same way so it would be easier and better if developers didnt do pc cause its a harder platform (as different hardware configureations) vs console where its minor tweaks between 1 and 1s plus the 4 and 4pro.

yes, but for consoles the hard thing isn't the options you need, it's the console itself. Programers normally work on the PC and it is way easier to test that directly on the PC than to copy it over on to a console and then testing it there. And they have to repeat that, everytime they want to test something, which often happens hundreds or even thousands of times. Whereas creating different graphics settings doesn't need that much testing and can be done on one and the same system for all settings.

> you dont need the pro controller and your assuming that the controlers arent comfortable yet i seen people who went to the event say they were fine.

Yeah, I never had them in my hands so I don't really know how they are. I've heard that they are fine but the pro controller still feels much better, especially for people with big hands.

> the online unless they plan on doing worse version of PS+ then there shouldn't be anything wrong with it.

From what I've heard, it is going to be pretty expensive without giving you that much stuff. You will get NES and SNES games you can play for one month and after that, you would have to buy them.

> also wheres your source on the games price or are you making a guess based on the rest of current gen?

OK, they are 60€, but still, they shouldn't be that expensive.

here some sources:

  • Mario Kart 8 - Deluxe It's just a port with a few extra features, not an entirely new game.
  • ARMS It's not such a huge game.
  • Splatoon 2 It's just a port with a few extra features, not an entirely new game.
  • (TLoZ Breath of the Wild, TES V Skyrim and SM Odyssey are understandable because they are pretty big games)
  • and then there is 1-2 Switch for 50€ instead of being included if you buy the console(like it was with Wii Sports).
u/JnRx03 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

As someone who's owned a Switch since launch, I say the joycon and comfort grip are fine i'll try to put this in sections.

Controller: You can try the pro controller, but in my experience with the two i've bought, I've found that the left stick if you flick it on direction it bounces back the other direction, you may not find this to be an issue right away, but it caused a lot of issues for me when playing Sonic Mania and other games that require quick stick movement.

Cases: If you can get your hand on the Zelda Special Edition case that'd be great, but otherwise [This](https://www.amazon.com/TAKECASE-Nintendo-Switch-Case-Microfiber-Guarantee /dp/B06XYPPJ6M/ref=pd_cp_63_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RBHQCTFZSKGBBVMX8GZ2) and This seem to be pretty good hefty cases.

Also This protective slim case should serve as nice armor to protect it from scratches.

Games: Personally i'd reccomend, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 (my fav), Sonic Mania, Mario Kart 8, Snipperclips (if you have someone to play with), these are all games I mostly enjoy, i'd recommend ARMS as well, but i found the game more frustrating than fun.

Screen Protector: This one shall do they're all mostly the same, just different price points and popularity, the on difference between some is tempered glass vs plastic.

I say always go with Tempered glass, unless you prefer the plastic for one reason or another

Awesome! Congrats! You'll love it.

A few things I'm glad I got: glass screen protector.

Edit: hit the send button accidentally. :)

I returned THREE cases I didn't like for various reasons, but I just got the Switch Takecase on Amazon after loving their 3ds case, and I couldn't be happier. Because it's a new product, it's cheap (for now; jump on the deal they've got), and there aren't as many reviews, but I can't recommend it highly enough. Room for a charger and games, solid construction, etc.

The JoyCon with grip (or without) are fantastic, and you'll be just fine without a Pro Controller. But when it's in your budget, get one. It's fantastic. Again, the JoyCon are great.

Shovel Knight!! Snipperclips!! And yes, it looks like Nintendo will be pulling a ton of other indies into the platform.

Enjoy your Switch!

I haven't owned a Nintendo system since N64 just because I always felt they had gimicky features, but I thought the Switch seemed innovative so I picked it up. I play it mostly on my TV, but it's great being able to take it up to bed or on vacation (awesome for flights). I don't find it very comfortable in hand so I bought this grip and case package, which makes handheld way more comfortable. Right now there aren't a ton of good exclusives, but there are a lot of downloadable ports from the eShop that I've wanted to play like Hollow Knight and Wizard of Legend.

Hello, I literally just got my Switch yesterday! I'm assuming your son is ~10 years old. Hopefully this can help;

  1. "Updates" only took 1 minute for me. I'm unsure if the console was already up-to-date to a certain point, but updating was practically instant. Same with my Super Mario Odyssey update, took an extra 1 minute. So 2 minutes total doing updates and then I was playing a game.
  2. I highly recommend one. I got the tempered glass amFilm one from Amazon. Really nice screen protector and you get two for ~$10, this one specifically: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/
  3. I personally recommend a rubber TPU case for the switch/joycons, this is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716KM5BB/

I recommend the rubber case because it'll protect the device itself from small drops and scuffs that can occur if the user of the device isn't careful. I'm in my early 20's and I'm extremely careful with my phones(haven't dropped any phones for about 3-4 years now).

I bought this rubber case for my Switch just in case someone else is using it and drops it. The console and joycons all have their own rubber piece, but the joycons can still snap onto the Switch, however the Switch cannot dock into the TV Dock enclosure with the rubber case on. So if your son wants to play on the TV constantly then this case isn't worth the hassle in my opinion.

  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

Links for all the items I got for your reference:
    Screen Protector
    Memory Card
    Case
    Stand
    Battery Pack
    Pro Controller
    Nyko Dock

  1. The wheels aren’t necessary since you can control the kart with the joystick. If you’re gonna be using one joy con instead of the pair, I’d recommend getting some grips for it. It’ll feel much more comfortable in your hand and the L+R buttons will be easier to press, since the grips will have bumpers on them.

Here’s an example of the grips I’m talking about

  2. Drifting is going to be your best friend. With this new Mario kart, they added an extra drift boost that can last a little over 2 seconds and definitely can change the game, once you get good at consistently drifting. Also, always hold on to bananas if you’re in first since you can have them trail behind you to stop any red shells coming your way

ANY Tempered Glass screen protector will work well. Personally I have Orzly on my Switch but have used Spigen on phones in the past. Both are top notch and have been doing screen protectors for handheld electronics forever.

..

The Docks Bands can also help ensure the Switch is not coming into contact with the dock, especially if you have younger kids.

..

The other big accessory to consider early on is a hard sided carrying case. Anyone will do. Personally I have the Hori Tough Pouch. Being a step ahead means if for some reason the Switch is leaving the house there is at least a carrying case ready.

..

If you know the Switch will be used on long road trips, etc. a battery pack like Ravpower 26800 PD is also great to have around put is much more optional.

..

In terms of the SD card, I have had my Switch since launch, have about 12 games now and buy physical cartridges when possible. I have still not exceeded the built in memory and needed an SD card. That said if you are buying one only buy from Best Buy or Amazon and if buying make sure you aren't buying from a third part seller. Also look for a UHS-I or UHS-II card (UHS = Ultra high speed). Sandisk and Samsung are two more reputable brands. In terms of size, go with the largest size that doesn't make your wallet scream as this is something you want to buy only once if possible.

u/Cato_Keto_Cigars · 118 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

GET A Tempered Glass Screen Protector NOW. The screen is plastic and can scratch when taking it in and out of the dock

I can testify on those controller grips, but the model I got had larger trigger paddles. There are a lot of manufactuers of the design - seems some have better triggers than others. Here is the AmazonBasic branded one.

it is also worth pointing out that there is a "Pro" controller that is shaped like a normal console controller.

More general wisdom; If you buy a 2nd dock - be on the lookout for Chinese knockoffs. The Switch does NOT use a normal USB C plug - the voltage is different. (even though it is shaped identically). Using the wrong plug can fry the system (much like first gen USB-C phones. Do research first.

There are cases for the switch to protect when traveling - but not useful when dropped. Examples

There are Grip cases - but they will not protect from a fall. And the joycons will be in the case. Example Which may affect any travel case - if you use one. The Amazon page claims drop protection, but I'm doubtful on any of these. And the Joycons "popping" off when dropped may be a safety feature intended by Nintendo. (much like the console sitting vertical when docked for heat distribution)

There is no drop proof case. IMO.

Also, keep an eye on Bionic, they make some cool joy con chargers. Easiest way is to just leave it connected to the switch charging.

The pro controller will charge via micro USB like a Xbox controller.

u/MadhuSharma1 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Which is the best slip-on case for Nintendo Switch that will also work with a play stand (so I don’t have to keep on removing the slip case each time I put it on the play stand)?

I was thinking of getting the Hori Play stand and the Orzly hybrid cover.

However, I am not sure if the Switch will fit in the play stand once the Orzly hybrid cover is on it and also if there will be enough ventilation for the slots on the back once the covered Switch in on the play stand.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

u/Velvet_Spaceman · 1 pointr/vita

You could get grips for your joy cons to make it more comfortable. There's a wealth of accessories out there for the Switch so it's pretty easy to find something that could remedy that.

These seem like a nice, cheap, comfort add that don't compromise the portability of the Switch.

u/fenrirofdarkness · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Do you mean something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Skull-Co-GripCase-Set-Comfortable/dp/B078WHH1KR/

or this? https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Grip-Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Controllers/dp/B07177727N/

Nonetheless, I vouch for the Skulls & co one, it's really comfortable and awesome, and the pouch is really great too! :D

And I hear good stuff about the joycon grip as well

u/NMe84 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

> Im really not into the neon colours , especially being red and blue and a-symetrical really irks me.

Me too, but you can get red + red (or blue + blue).

Personally I went with grey too, then when the neon yellow ones came out I got those because they look amazing. Unlike the red and blue ones I just loved these yellow ones as soon as I saw them. I love these darker red ones too, will probably get them.

u/Eponine05 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

So, I've had a few cases by now, but usually I find when I want to go out with my Switch, I just need the console itself and a couple games at most.

Therefore I've fallen in love with this Tomtoc Slim Hardshell Case.

It's really perfect and form fitting, super tiny, tough and looks good. 5/5.

u/fluffmiceter · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
  1. It's not a huge leap over the original MK8, but if you travel a lot, the portability will certainly be excellent to have. If you don't have the DLC for MK8, just know that MK8D will have all DLC included in its $60 price tag (you could pick it up used for $45 with free shipping, which I'd recommend)
  2. Splatoon 2 is a full sequel. If you are a competitive player who dedicates a lot of time to online multiplayer games, Splatoon 2 will be a generous upgrade over Splatoon. It has completely new weapons, quality of life adjustments and balances, and will be receiving new maps, weapons, etc for another year.
  3. There are cheap wired controllers of good quality, but I have yet to find one that is wireless. These budget options do lack accelerometers and gyroscopes, vibration capabilities and NFC support which can hinder the experience in some games.
  4. Buy a tempered glass screen protector and a carrying case if you plan to bring your Switch while traveling. The joycons acting as single sideways controllers can be quite comfortable if you buy a plastic controller shell that gives it a proper grip. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Grip-Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Controllers/dp/B07177727N/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1509584668&sr=1-2&keywords=switch%2Bjoycon%2Bcontroller%2Bgrip&th=1
u/RruinerR · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The old model battery is 2.5hrs-6.5hrs, depending on game and other factors.
The new model is 4.5hrs - 9hrs, again, depending on game and other factors.

The newer model also has a brighter handheld screen.
And, as much as you say you PLAN on being docked most of the time, you will find times and excuses to undock and take it along. (I never realized how much I wanted Fire Emblem 3 Houses with me when I had the tires put on the car...)

With that being said, a 200GB microSD for sure. Best price per GB and 200GB is quite a lot of games loaded.

I also suggest a grip for handheld with a case that fits the grip.
Again, i know you dont plan on being portable, but the Grip is GREAT when you are playing handheld, and a case is required for portable. And you'll want a case that fits it.
I suggest this one Switch GoPlay

These are also good, a bit more expensive.

Joycon grips are the best solution right now.

I recommend the official Nintendo Joy con battery grip.

Cons first: It's relatively expensive and only works with detached joycons since the grips have their own rails. Made with hard plastic so it's not squishy like silicone grips (whether or not that's a pro/con is up to you)

Pros: Extends battery life if you typically leave the joycons off and, more comfy to hold for certain hands than just joycons, SL and SR easier to press in single joycon mode, adds weight for extra stabilization depending on how many batteries you put in. Also, 0 or 1 batteries inserted does not charge your joycon, so if you prefer not to actually use up batteries you can go this route and still have a nice grip.

u/MisterPhalange · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd personally recommend this Butterfox case. I've been using it since April and it's fantastic. A cover like the one you linked might be a hassle if you use the dock : / As for other necessities, I'd definitely recommend getting a screen protector. I love the one from Spigen.

u/Chokaay · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

1.) For scratch & bump protection I have the Nyko Thin Case on my Switch (available in different colors):

https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Thin-Case-Dockable-Protective-Protector/dp/B072KHS2Q5/

https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Thin-Case-Dockable-Protective-Protector/dp/B077ZKVRTR/

It's a thin plastic case around almost all of your Switch to protect it from scratches & bumps, and comes with a tempered glass screen protector. It's also dockable, and thin enough to fit in many carrying cases.

If you want a Switch case that matches your Pikachu/Eevee theme, they have some available now:

https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Protector/dp/B07HMTX414/

2.) For everyday travel protection, you can get a zippered carrying case. Since I love "slim", but didn't want to sacrifice protection, I bought the TomToc Slim Hard Case (available in different colors):

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Hardshell-Cartridges-Accessory-Sswitch/dp/B0769GCSMK/

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Original-Hardshell-Cartridges-Accessory/dp/B07C3Z8FFC/

When the Switch first came out, there weren't that many choices for "slim" hard cases, but now I see there are several similar-styled cases that also look pretty durable.

And again, if you want an everyday carrying case that is Pokemon-themed, they have some available now too:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Officially-Licensed-Pokemon/dp/B07HBMKFVY/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Officially-Licensed-Pokemon/dp/B07HBMZRJT/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-System-Travel-Pikachu-500-110/dp/B07HM6Q8L9/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Deluxe-Pikachu-Element-500-093/dp/B07GX89VWN/

... just google for more.

3.) If you travel long-distances or on lengthy trips, you may want to get a larger zippered hard case to fit your chargers, battery packs, extra joy-cons and/or pro controllers, HDMI dock, tons of games, etc. I don't have any one in particular to recommend, but in searching ebay it seems like there are hundreds of different cases available now (though not all of them look good).

u/betacux · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Would definitely recommend a pro controller, so much more comfortable than joy-con. I got joy-con comfort silicone grip things that go on the joy-con, but even then my hands absolutely kill me from playing Switch. If you just want to play as soon as you can, I guess get silicone comfort grips for your joy-con, and a comfort grip controller. Also definitely get a glass screen protector, and this case.. For games, I'd recommend BotW, Splatoon 2, and Odyssey (I assume by the time you have enough saved up odyssey will be out, it comes out in a month)

I've bought quite a few switch accessories.

I bought the Pro Controller.
Works great. Exactly as advertised.

The Nintendo Joy-Con, Neon Blue & Neon Red - Left and Right Edition.
Also works great.

HORI Officially Licensed Premium Protective Filter for Nintendo Switch .

This is not great. I find the edges of it are always peeling back especially along the bottom. However installation was easy.

Because of the above I've now bought:

Spigen Nintendo Switch Screen Protector Tempered Glass / 2 Pack / 9H Hardness for Nintendo Switch 2017

I have not used it yet so I cannot comment on its effectiveness.

I have also ordered the following:

HORI NSW-003U Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Charge Stand Officially Licensed

It was supposed to be released on April 12th according to Amazon and it still hasn't shipped and Amazon doesn't have any accurate information as to when they will receive stock.

I'm pretty sure that's it so far.

I have a slightly different version of the RDS case that is a little bigger and comes with a grip and that was honestly the biggest selling point for me. The case itself is great, but the grip makes playing in handheld mode a million times better. It's not much more than the original RDS case so it's definitely worth looking into: https://www.amazon.com/Goplay-Traveler-Premium-Ballistic-Nylon-Bonus/dp/B07CBGT4BP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542050899&sr=8-1&keywords=RDS+switch+case+grip

I was very fortunate this weekend to meet Patricia Summersett, who provides the voice for Princess Zelda in BotW. I got her to sign my Switch! But now I would love suggestions for a clear case for my console so I don't have to worry about the signature fading while in portable mode. I'm not too worried about the signature while the system is docked. Right now, I'm looking at this case in particular:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Findway-Protective-Absorption-Resistant/dp/B0716KM5BB/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498584142&sr=8-3&keywords=switch+clear+case
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've some random examples here, however I would recommend you do some shopping around for yourself.

Findway Crystal Case

Kungber Hard Back Case

Kungber Ergonomic Back Case

Nyko Bubble Case

Nyko Slim Case

Mumba Protective Case

Liangsm Leather Cover

Utoper Wallet Carrying Case

Yoswan Aluminum Case

Chinfai Silicone Skin

YoRHa Hand Grip

Keep your specific needs in mind. Do you want a case that will allow your Switch to fit inside the dock? Do you use tabletop mode often and want your Joy-Cons to be easily detachable? Do you want a case that will cover your screen when not in use? Do you want your case to give you extra grip while holding it in handheld mode? Do you prefer hard plastic or is silicone acceptable? How important is it that the buttons remain uncovered? Etc.

u/glorious_sunshine · 3 pointsr/Switch

Taking care of your switch is gonna do more good for it than having a case ;) but that's irrelevant to your question.

If by 'case' you mean a storage case, get a hard case. This is to prevent damage to your console when someone inevitably places something heavy on top of the case. A hard case can hold more before it applies pressure to your console. But I opted for design over function on this as I live with a pretty responsible fellow switch owner. The one I have is this.

If you meant a cover, which you only take off to dock your switch, then get one which is easy to take off/put on, without scratching or stressing your switch. In this case, I went for this cover, and its worked fine for me so far.

Best advice when buying cases - read the reviews, think about how you are gonna use it, how often etc.

Edit: because the Zelda case is not a hard case (at least I don't consider it to be) as the zip side is soft so it kinda slopes, I was worried about it pressing on the joysticks, but with the cover, it raises the thickness of the console as a whole, and therefore having the case inside a squished backpack doesn't worry me as much. Which case you get and whether you get a cover is kinda up to your budget as well. I recommend getting a hard case if you can only get one of the two.

I totally agree, I can recommend the bt adaptor from homespot:

https://www.amazon.com/HomeSpot-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Compatible-Headphones/dp/B07L9SL7ZT/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr0_2?keywords=switch+bt+adapter+genki&qid=1566201031&s=gateway&sprefix=switch+bt+adapter&sr=8-2-fkmr0

While it's definitely something Nintendo should have included, it gets the job done, works flawlessly with my Sony mdr 1000x, as well as my Jabra Elite Active 65t :)

I find the "Joycon in each hand" thing to be super uncomfortable -- they don't have enough volume, maybe my hands are too big. They're fine attached to the switch, and i'm really glad that it came with the grip.

Maybe something like this will make them more comfortable -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XXXK2X

I use a clip on grip thing that would probably solve your issue. It’s simple but I love it. Got one at my local game store for 15 bucks. Only downside is it doesn’t fit in my case with it on. It should hold your joycons in place.

To add to what others have said, I found the joy cons + grip to be perfectly fine. I have smaller than average hands, though.

If you are wanting to do 4 player couch co-op, though, an extra set of Joy cons + grips like these is probably a decent way to do things. If everyone has the same controller, there's less fighting over who gets the "good" controller.

u/Bukosai · 2 pointsr/Switch

PDP has some kits with some cheap accessories. It includes a case as well, this all costs around 30 bucks (USD)
Nyko has a accessory known as "Clip Grip Power". It's the Joycon grip with a 3000 mAh power bank inside, and a phone stand for the Nintendo Switch Online App. I have one and it's really good, especially if you don't already own a power bank for your switch. This was 25 bucks. Very good price compared to the charging grip by Nintendo.
Split Joycon grips are available for less than 15 bucks, I have a pair (I forget what brand, but most look the same) and they work great. Back to Nyko, they said they are going to make a portable dock that is essentially the same one as the official dock. Here's a amazon link; go to nyko.com for a gamestop release date. https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501733668&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252
As of now, this is supposed to be 50 bucks.
HORI recently made a controller which is cheaper than the pro controller, with a few drawbacks, like it's wired, no gyroscope or NFC reader, and so on. I don't own one; but it's 30 bucks. It seems like a good controller.

Honestly, cases will be on your taste. Some are too big (like that game traveler deluxe case; jeez that's huge.) Some offer too little. You decide. I just stuck with a basic BoTW case with 14 game cards for the future.

Hey there, /u/Rawkin_Wolf420!

Hey! This kind of questions belong in the Daily Question Thread that is stickied to the frontpage, but let me answer real quick.

What you should get:

  • Screen Protector (I recommend this as a must have)

  • Carrying Case (if you travel a lot)

  • microSD Card (if you plan on getting your games digital)

  • If you want to play multiplayer with friends or family, you could get an extra set of JoyCons or even a Pro Controller, which I highly recommend.

  • The JoyCon takes up to 20 hours to run out of battery, and they recharge when attaching the cons to the console and docking it. If you are really worried for battery running out, there is an accessory that extends the charge of each JoyCon.

As others have mentioned in this thread a screen protector is a MUST for the switch! Also if you want to be much safer when you're docking your switch put a piece of cloth on the side of the plastic dock where the screen will be possibly rubbing against, if you really don't want any smudges or scratches. A travelling case is a good thing to get if you're planning on bringing it around with you. I have a leather case similar to this that I put on whenever I bring my switch on the go so I don't have to use the stand, since the case turns into a sturdy stand! Also silicon grip covers are a nice addition to put on your joy cons.

I use this case and toss it in my backpack along with the charger. I think it’s perfect. Absolutely love this case. Has a hard outer shell and the inside is very soft. It even has an interior flap that holds 8 cartridges. I highly recommend it.

Im not sure about messenger bags. I haven’t seen anything like that for the switch.

I have silicone grip covers like these https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Gel-Guards-Blue/dp/B01N10WJ09?th=1 and they definitely make the joy cons/ handheld mode more comfortable for me. Don't know how they would do for larger hands though.

u/Stretchy_Boi · 2 pointsr/Switch

I haven't seen anything exactly like what you're talking about.

Do you like the feel of the joy-con grip? Have you considered something like this?

They also have joy-con cases that don't attach to the tablet, but also have the "comfort grip" shape to them. I would think these would be less comfortable than the above option, though.

u/ListenBeforeSpeaking · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The AA battery pack add on for the joycons actually improve ergonomics too. The best part is they’re super cheap!

You don’t have to have batteries in them to use them.

Great customer service and support, quality and design. You can fit 4 joycons, the AC adapter...and it's deep enough so that nothing will touch the Switch joysticks.

Highly recommend.

That's pretty cool but I think I've seen it in Datablitz SM Megamall, weeks ago. Maybe it was a different brand, but I question the necessity of this considering you'll either be carrying the Switch in a travel case when it's out, or leaving it in its dock at home. And speaking of the dock, you'll have to remove the case every time you want to dock the Switch. Bit of a hassle if you plan on switching modes a lot.

>Messenger Bag (since I'm always moving weekly)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N22YAIP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_rhGlzb5Z4BRJ7

Datablitz carries this HORI travel bag for the Switch, which I bought for myself and it does a good job carrying the console, dock, HDMI cable, power adapter, and Joycon grip with extra Joycon attached. The dividers on the inside are modular and can be moved around to suit your packing style. It's about half the price of the messenger bag, and you can still stuff it into a backpack for portability (which is how I carry it around when I do need to bring everything, though that's only happened twice).

>Case (sana meron dito nito)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_shGlzbTK8JKQZ

There are cases here though none that I've seen which have handles. This isn't an issue though if you've already got a bag or backpack to carry it in, which I highly recommend doing anyway; carrying a Nintendo-branded bag/case around, especially one tailor-fit for the Switch, is just begging to be stolen.

While I don't agree with the necessity of some of these accessories, my Switch use case may very well differ from yours (when you eventually do decide to get it). So if you still think those exact items are the ones you really need to get, then I'd suggest using a shipping forwarder like Jinio (Xend-owned), My-ShoppingBox (FICI-owned), or Shippingcart (LBC-owned) to receive and ship your orders directly to you. I've used all three and they're generally equally reliable.

I've used this for several trips now, and it's worked out very well. I like the ability to use the front cover as a stand as it's much more stable than the built in kickstand. It's easy enough to put on and take off. It's relatively inexpensive.

u/FatBaldWhiteMan · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

That Dock is really portable - almost looks to small for my taste (too light), just like a small windblow might be able to push over the switch. I would feel a lot more comfortable with it laying flat.

I'll still hope HORI will make a nice high-quality portable dock.

u/TheTerribleSnowflac · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

For all of you undocked users, do you use a plastic cover like this or one of these hybrid covers.

Also does anyone have a good recommendation for back covers to protect the backplate when it is docked?

Thanks!

u/JamieH1224 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

That's if they restock it. Reggie said during the Treehouse presentation that there is only a limited number of them being made and once theyre gone, theyre gone. I mainly want the map and the coin, the statue is cool but you can get much more detailed ones elsewhere. What I did was set up alerts on Amazon so hopefully they get restocks while the Americans are asleep. Heres the links if you want to do the same. Consoles are region free so the cart will still play here

u/Atlas_Man · 3 pointsr/Games

There’s adapters on amazon that work perfectly well. They do cost a little bit but it’s worth it for me cause I like playing docked with headphones at night

Here’s the one I got

Edit: it also allows for connection in handheld

u/DaveLambert · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Just FYI: you can shorten those 2nd and 3rd Amazon links by dropping everything starting with "/ref="; that part is completely unnecessary to the link. Delete those five characters, and everything after them, and you're left with a nice clean URL like the first one is. As an example, here's the second URL, cleaned up:

I'm currently using the Carry-All case. I've had it since Day 1, and it works well. However, the creator of this Switch TakeCase posted a giveaway here about a week ago and I think it looks great, I will be buying that one soon. Another good one is the Deluxe Travel case, I know someone who has it. It just isn't optimal for me since I carry a Pixel charger and I don't think it would fit in that zipper pouch.

u/BringoutCHaDead · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I highly recommend a case. I don't think a screen protector is enough for taking the switch on the go. I wouldn't want to throw it in a back pack without one. I have bought two cases for mine and the one I linked below is my favorite and most form fitting.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0769GCSMK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

I also recommend getting silicon grips for portable play. The form factor of the Switch is not comfortable and having the extra bump on the back of the grips for your hands makes a world of difference and they are not expensive.

u/craigbezzle · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Does anyone think the official AA battery pack shown here will provide a good amount of grip to the back of the joycons? I sometimes find the Switch to be a tad uncomfortable for my hands when playing extended amount of handheld mode, and I think an extended or bulky grip would help. I've seen 3D printed grips that look great but I don't have access to those, and the added functionality of longer battery life definitely intrigues me

u/gtfotis · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Neat, I don't have to hide my switch from my co-workers so I use this case.

Not very discrete, but nobody cares lol

u/ColJDerango · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Just wanna throw a vote in for the GoPlay Game Traveler Grip and Travel Case Case: great if you've got larger hands, comfortable for hours on end, and snaps on and off with ease.

A little more expensive, but it was well worth it for me!

u/VILLIAMZATNER · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I use this grip when I'm in handheld mode. Feels a ton better because the handles are angled like a normal controller.

I also like that it just clips on. I bought another grip first and it was such a tight fit it felt like I was stressing the switch, plus it's super inconvenient to drop it back in the dock when you have to struggle to get it on and off.

And the pro controller is totally worth it, for MoHun if you're on the fence about that, too.

Edit: You can buy the grip by itself without the travel case, I just linked it from my order history.

Ignore the fact that it's a battery charger, these feel great to hold when playing with split Joy-Cons. Gives it that extra size making it easier to grip your hand over.

If you can try going to a GameStop or something, they likely have this on clearance for around $10 or less.

Brief story time:
I bought the BASSTOP white+white joy con housing shell set from Amazon link

I had no idea what I was doing, and just kinda went for it following a number of youtube tutorials and various blog posts.
While I was nervous throughout the whole process, overall, it wasn’t too bad.. The trickiest part, as you’ll see the Amazon reviews remark, is the screwdrivers that the kit came with. The black screws on the back of each joy con are essentially stripped at this point.. I would definitely recommend getting a better set of screwdrivers, especially if you plan on taking them apart more than once.
It came out so nice looking though, and I am very glad I did it!
Overall, the shells feel identical to the original ones.
The only issue I have with it is the right joy-con seems to be a little larger than the original one and sticks up from the console just a bit when its attached. It also feels a little snug while sliding it onto the screen. It isn’t super noticeable, but still there and may bother some people. (this could just be my set, not a universal thing).

u/arbolmalo · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I just got a Homespot bluetooth transmitter for my Switch and I love it. It lets you connect bluetooth headsets to the Switch, which isn't a feature built in for some odd reason. It's got a small form factor and 2 players can use their own headsets on it at one time. It's got a super low latency codec too if the headset supports it. $40 on Amazon.

u/volcomador64 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Screen protector is a good idea, Switch has a plastic screen which scratches very easily. amFilm seems to be the go to recommedation on this sub. I went with Spigen screen protector, and I would recommend that one from my personal experience (very good!) and it's a little cheaper.

Well, there is this on amazon.com (US):

  • Left Neon Pink, Right Neon Green (US)
  • Left Neon Green, Right Neon Pink (JP)

Including the ones which come with the switch, it will mean unless you're getting the Splatoon 2 switch bundle which comes with left neon green and right neon pink, you will end up with three pairs of joycons. Then you might as well start collecting joycons and get Neon Red and Blue (both L and R), the Grey ones, the Neon Yellow ones, the Odyssey Red ones, etc etc... :D

On the plus side, you'd be set for party games, and you can swap between your default switch colours, or all pink or all green whenever you like. :D
u/Threat-Level--12am · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have this and it comes in pretty handy for flights, because I usually keep the joycons separate and I like that this also provides a better stand than the Switch's kickstand. It's pretty inexpensive, but I've had it for close to a year and it's held up well. There are others with a similar design if you look.

I understand people are used to third party adapters but they are more commonly problematic and this is coming from someone who has been watching it happen for 20 years working with electronics. Look at the reviews for Nyko on Amazon those issues right at the top are common for cellphones. Many cellphones are not compliant either nor do most third party adapters use "fast" chargers or proper protection to save money and make a cheaper less safe product. Either way its the consumers choice to use an unlicensed product and not the manufactures fault if said product does harm.

Youre best bet would Nyko's travel docking kit as it will come with a AC adapter with removable USB cord.

Unfortunately the dock is super finicky and requires some specific hardware to accept power. So only a handful of AC adapters will actually power it. There was a list that some one made a while ago so i cant find it; but the only other one that I found that worked was a Gamewill AC adapter, but that has a fixed cord like the official one.

AmFilm Screen Protector Is really the only must have I say that because everything else is based on your needs. If you plan on taking it everywhere then i'd recommend this carrying case if you plan on playing on the go then a portable charger would be a good choice, I'd recommend something with QC (Quick Charge) via USB-C with at least 20,000MAH.

As for splatoon or arms, they are two completely different styles of games. I'd opt for Splatoon just because I don't see myself enjoying arms.

I just bought these ones and I found the quality to be excellent. I recommend buying the tools that are recommended with them and to only do this if you have fairly nimble hands and can deal with screws that are 0.5-2mm long and a couple of connectors around 2-4mm wide.

If you do buy them the box comes with a qr code on it you can scan for a YouTube video of the tear down and reassembly.

But the recommended tool set doesn’t come with a pair of tiny needle nose pliers which are almost essential.

Edit: fixed the link

Not entirely transparent.... but, I use;

  • Satisfye Grip
  • J&TOP DIY Replacement Dock

This combo gives you everything you’re looking for minus complete transparency. The Satisfye Grip has a bar running through the back that will probably partially cover your stickers.

The grip can be docked on the replacement dock tho so you never have to take it off. I love it.

I purchased this a few weeks ago for my AirPods and it works great. It also does not require charging as it draws power from the USB-C port which is a big plus

u/theUnLuckyCat · 1 pointr/splatoon

I use the included wrist strap for a slightly better fit. You could also use the included grip for just the one JoyCon and still use them split. But if I were to buy an accessory, it would be a battery pack for both a heftier controller and the convenience of never having to charge the things attached to the Switch itself (cheap knockoffs also available).

Although the button layout on the Pro is a lot better, so it's great for that (and if there's ever any couch multiplayer).

My husband has very large hands. He can't hold on to those little switch controllers if we play coop, which I hope we will. I bought the 10$ amazon controller case thing they go into so he can hold them.

In addition some games do better with a real controller, rather than the switch ones. I didn't buy a pro one because my husband wants to use his old gamecube controller, but having played a bit of it... I can imagine wanting a more traditional controller for games like zelda, skyrim, or doom.

There's already plenty of BT transmitters with AptX-LL support, from USB ones for PC/Mac use, to models more suited for home theater use with optical input and the ability to stream to two headphones simultaneously, and even USB-C stuff meant for the Nintendo Switch...

I dunno how adaptive AptX stacks up latency-wise, seems like a riff on the variable bitrate ability of LDAC but I've not seen a lot of transmitters with LDAC either and that's been out longer... So it might be a while for adaptive AptX. AptX-LL works more than fine for TV watching or gaming tho...

  1. Yes

  2. I don't know I have never had a 3DS, but I guess the Nintendo account is the one you need to use.

  3. I believe you should go for a SD. You can save shovel knight and Snipperclipers fine without problems, but after that your switch will fill up too fast.

  4. Forget about 1,2 Switch awful game. Take into account that playing with ONE joycon is not nice. Is too small and really uncomfortable. You best option would be metal slug 3 is easy for people that don't play a lot, its just shot and kill everything you see. Play arms before buying it, some people like it, some people (like me) don't. I think is best Mario Kart.

Idk if this helps your investigation, but when my switch bricked, it still worked but it didn’t connect to the dock (original or 3rd party) I was however able to charge it using my pro controller usb (or any usb c I’d assume) connected to my computer. I was not able to transfer my saves as I needed to be connected to a AC adapter but Nintendo was able to successfully transfer my saves to a refurbished unit.

When I connected the switch to a 1st party dock, it would charge for half a second and disconnect leaving a blinking green light on the dock until I removed power to it. There was no video signal at all to my tv but everything still worked in handheld mode

Here is the dock my Switch was connected to when it was bricked

I have 2 portable docks, my main dock is in my bedroom, and outside of having the portable docks for travel, I find that the best use I will get from them is just leaving them hooked to the other TVs in my house so that I can dock to whatever TV I’m near without having to unhook the main one from my bedroom and plug it up elsewhere. The price went up a bit, but it’s worth it.

This is where I got mine, just gotta swap the internals of other joy cons, not too bad of a process if you have the right tools and a little technical savvy

u/Arkvelsa · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hmmm anybody tried this product?

Will it fit on travelling puch/cases easily with the TPU on the switch?

u/crazysim · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If there's no software solution, maybe cutting, taping or sanding the edges so its safer, and taping a small thin piece of plexiglass, lexan, or something transparent on the switch screen would work.

https://www.amazon.com/Lexan-Sheet-Polycarbonate-Thick-Nominal/dp/B00520AR9C

It just needs to be thick enough so the capacitance is not picked up.

If you don't want to tape it to the switch itself, maybe attaching it to a case like this might be more palatable.

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Nintendo-Multi-Functional-3-Angle-Protective-Protect/dp/B06XBRF7N4

Though there are tape that won't leave residue.

Unlike an iPad or iPhone or something, you won't lose any functionality doing this as the touch screen is optional and the switch is fully accessible from the controller since it needs to be usable if only in a TV.

Yes. I bought it on Amazon.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Special Edition - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075MZT53Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_d6sBDb6CQNZ5S

A bit expensive, but worth it IMO

u/GodDonuts · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Just to make sure, its this one right?

I dont understand how a travel case can do that. Looks nice too!

u/ShyGuyExpress · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I've been using this Bluetooth adapter for my Switch to use my Jaybird Tarah's. If you need a way to connect, this is a solid choice. There's also one out there that allows you to charge your switch and use bluetooth at the same time. Both great options!

u/49falkon · 12 pointsr/smashbros

If anyone doesn't know yet, there are single joy-con grips made by a bunch of companies that are going to be excellent for Smash. AmazonBasics makes this set and they're relatively cheap and absolutely worth it.

(I hope linking them is okay but if not let me know and I'll remove the link)

i mean, i agree with you, i bought this guy though https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CBJBQHG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and i play mostly in handheld with it,

i was playing handheld without it at first and got really sore hands and cramps after a while. it pops on and off easily enough that it doesn't bother me. people say get the pro controller, but i don't play docked enough for that...and i have a hard time seeing the screen on a table infront of me especially for like single player games.

[Nyko] (https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506493417&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252) is releasing a portable dock for the Switch. It isn't as small as I would like, but someone could definitely make a smaller one if they removed some of the USB ports or arranged them so they aren't all on the same side of the adapter.

u/FoN925 · 0 pointsr/nintendo

A dock at $60?! Pfft! Try $90 MSRP!

I agree with you one million percent, though. There is NO way the dock is worth nearly $100 after tax.

I have a pre-order in for the Nyko Portable Docking Kit, which I was luckily able to get for $44.99, before the price went up to $49.99.

Honestly, I still think even $45 is high, but I'm much more willing to pay $45 than $90.

If we were dealing with literally any other company, I'd agree that the JoyCons may go down in price as technology improves, demand decreases and manufacturing costs decrease. Since we are talking about Nintendo, though, I really doubt they'll drop the prices... ever.

Just look at how much a new Wii U Pro controller still costs today ($50+), for a "dead" console. I can get a new DualShock 4 on Amazon for less than that every day, often around $39.99.

u/Guest8967 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I ended up getting this one, (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B06XFYYQ4Q/ref=ya_st_dp_summary?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
because it would let me ship to my work's PO box while the AMfilm one wouldn't let me in Canada for some reason. But, basically same thing and both seem well reviewed! Hype! Thanks so much.

Didnt end up getting a micro Sd since no deals. XenoBlade only has a 14gb download so I should be safe til christmas when I can hopefully get some for boxing day!

u/desymond · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Japanese version of the Splatoon joycons were reversed. You could buy two sets, keep the green set and sell the pink set. I'm sure selling a matching pink set would be easy.

Get a screen protector immediately, the dock scratches the screen. Until you have one, leave it docked as much as you can (the scratches come from being slid into the dock / taken out, not from standard use).

I got this one, it's great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/

I also got this for it, but it won't fit in the dock anymore with it, which is fine for me as I don't use the dock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716KM5BB/

I have a spare charger for the switch, for trips and playing Disgaea 5 while in bed, which is just a Google Pixel charger: https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_18w_power_adapter_2?srp=/product/usb_type_c_18w_power_adapter

Yes you need the dock to play on the TV, the official wall-charger is $30.

If you need another dock, maybe look into the Nyko Mini-dock which is available for pre-order:

Sort of! I bought white skins from DecalGirl. I did this shortly after I bought my Switch during midnight release. However, there are ways to get white joy cons. You can either spray paint it or replace the shells. They sell them on Amazon for roughly $20 USD.

u/_Ecoin_ · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Have you seen the White Joy-Con shells you can buy? They look really nice if you want to change the color of your joy-cons for cheap.

Just adding, it's a snug fit, but I can fit the HDE in my takecase, https://www.amazon.com/TAKECASE-Switch-Carrying-Case-Accessories/dp/B06XYPPJ6M/ref=sr_1_1

I recommend something like this then.

It came in this case set! As a guy with big hands it’s much more comfortable. That’s an Amazon UK link but it should be available worldwide if you search on your local amazon

Can someone help me with a good backpack recommendation? I'm the family "tech" person so I almost always need to carry all of the below items. I am also fairly rough with it. I do a lot of walking and travelling and find most backpacks wear out fairly quickly. The closest I've found is a camera bag with modular compartments, but the laptop section was too small, the switch and case was a little too big, and no dedicated tablet sleeve. Trying to avoid buying separate cases/sleeves for every single item as on a given "trip" I probably use almost everything at least once and don't want the hassle of a bunch of sleeves/cases laying around.

-15" Laptop including charger.
-3 fairly large separate compartments. I keep a Logitech G602 and 2 pro controllers with me
-Nintendo switch with grip and case (This)
-10" tablet. Needs it's own compartment/sleeve
-A fairly large (35k mah) power bank. Roughly 7" high, 3" wide, and 1" thick. Very heavy with sharp corners, will need it's own dedicated area as it WILL destroy stuff it can smack against.
-TSA ready (I fly 6x a year)

Edit: I checked the wiki/FAQ and nothing there seems to suit my needs and Formatting

u/RedditBot5000 · -1 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

They have skins you know. Plus it will be protected from wear around the corners which I imagine will get pretty worn over time especially if you travel with them often.

Roomier Small Cases - Are There Others Like These? (Takecase, Soyan)

  • Takecase Nintendo Switch Case
  • Soyan Carrying Case for Nintendo Switch - Medium

These two cases are the closest I've found to fitting the bill. Both are similar in size and features to the official and other small hard cases, but have a bit more room: Where most small cases are 2" to 2.5" deep, the Takecase is 3.3" and the Soyan is 3.6", providing more room for accessories in the top compartment and giving more clearance for the Switch's thumbsticks in the bottom half.

    Preferred contents:

  • Switch with joy-cons attached
  • Minimum 8 games
  • 2 spare joy-cons
  • 4 joy-con straps
  • Portable dock
  • Power Adapter
  • HDMI Cable
  • Headphones

The Takecase is just a bit too small. All of the above will fit if you squeeze, but that's not ideal, obviously, and it takes a bit of doing every time you pack and unpack.

The Soyan is an inch longer, about the same height, and .3 inches deeper. There might even be enough room to pack everything above along with a Grip or Pro Controller. On the down side, it appears that the Switch isn't well secured -- no straps of any kind -- and has some useless space on either side. Haven't tested it yet, but ordered one and will find out soon.

Anyone know of other similar cases? Looking for something small and sturdy that fits what's listed above. Thanks!
u/Lord_Vius · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

you dont need to use the grip or a pro controller.

i use the joy cons split and much prefer it to the pro controller.

i do use these to add size though.

u/mogiemilly · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Try these! I hate I had to buy these, but it did make using the single joycons a lot more comfortable.

u/Triskaidekian · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

But they do have switch set up as a platform, because arms has switch as it's platform https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBTWOVC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but then 1 2 switch says Wii U https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ8ZGI6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
so its all over the place. I agree the Zelda order is probably fine and amazon just messed up the platform

It's a grip. It's only $7 on Amazon and I'll have it in handheld mode a lot, so it seems like a cheap way to get an ergonomic grip at launch. They have red and gray too:
