38. Duronic Dual Screen Monitor Stand DM35V2X1 | Double/Twin Desk Mount | Aluminium | Adjustable | for Two 13-27 Inch LCD Screens | VESA 75/100 | 8kg Per Screen | Tilt -15°/+15°,Swivel 180°,Rotate 360°

    Features:
  • SPACE SAVING SOLUTION: Having a computer monitor and a laptop or tablet on your desk can take up a lot of space, let alone having two. One of the great advantages of having a vertical double screen support like the DM35V2X1 is that it takes up very little room on your table top; by elevating the screens together in one place it also frees up valuable space which enables you to utilise it for other things. Holding them vertically, this allows the user to view one screen on top of the other.
  • HEALTH BENEFITS AND INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY: Most stand-alone monitors and laptops are low-levelled and as such they can cause a problem for most people as they are positioned below the user’s natural line of sight. When a screen is not positioned properly it can have a negative effect on the user’s posture, wellbeing and productivity. This desk mount allows the user to adjust the stand based on their own height and position, enabling them to work comfortably without aches and pains.
  • ADJUSTABLE TO CREATE OPTIMAL VIEWING ANGLES: This aluminium monitor stand is adjustable, both in height and in the position or angle of the VESA heads. The monitor brackets can be adjusted up/down along the pole, move left to right by 180° and rotate 360° so that you can view them vertically.
  • COMPATIBLE WITH VESA MONITORS: This monitor stand is suitable for most major brand monitors on the market (i.e. Samsung, LG, Dell, to name a few) who adhere to VESA compatibility. This mount will support 2 screens 13”-27” in size and with a maximum weight of 8kg each. The VESA bracket will hold monitors with VESA 100 or VESA 75 mounting holes; this means that the holes should be either 100mm or 75mm apart from each other when measured.
  • FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS: This model has two VESA heads that can swivel in 1 place by 180°, tilt -15°/+15° and can turn 360°. Pole height: 80cm. Maximum weight capacity: 8kg per arm. Colour: black. Material: aluminium. Fixings are included. If you require an extra VESA bracket, arm or grommet for your set-up, you can also purchase this separately. Included in the box is an instruction manual to provide a step-by-step guide to installing the desk mount.

Hi! Just took the CA Bar and am about to start packing out of my on campus apartment, so I'm feeling a bit whimsical and some of this may be more directed at her.

Writing, Notetaking, and Organization

If you're particular about writing instruments, which some people are, it will take trial and error to find your right fit. This was my go-to, and it got me through three years of time, four years of credits, and three different employers.

Sharpie Liquid Highlighters, Chisel Tip, 5 Colors

Pros

  • Great color, easy grip, chisel tip allows full line highlighting and underlining.
  • Pen format works well in almost every bag or organizer.
  • Five colors allows you to book brief (she will know what that means, and probably shouldn't do it until she knows how to craft a good one page case brief) in FIRAC format.

    Cons

  • Getting harder and more expensive to find.
  • Go through ink fairly quickly.

uni-ball Jetstream RT Ballpoint Pens, Bold Point (1.0mm)

    Pros

  • I mainly used the capped .07mm, but the retractable .07mm work well too.

    Cons

  • This is less of a Con and more of a comment. Things like line width, pressure, and paper type make a solid rec hard to make here. There's so much personal preference. My general rule of thumb is it should cost enough that you can rely on it without being expensive enough to make you think too hard about losing one occasionally.

Freeleaf® Yellow Annotation Ruled Pads Letter

    Pros

  • Excellent weight, color, and ink retention.
  • Pre-formatted organization structure, so you know what everything is if it gets mixed up before you file it.

    Cons

  • It's $7 a pad. You're not going to find good quality pads for that much cheaper, but you fill find stuff that will get the job done cheaper. I maybe spent $200 during law school on pads, because I hand wrote notes. There's empirical studies that show it helps to write notes, but it was dying out at my school and I'd be surprised if my class would show any correlation between rank and note taking style.

Ticonderoga Pencils, Wood-Cased, Graphite #2 HB Soft, Black

    Pros

  • Best quality pencil for the price, hands down.

    Cons

  • You could spend more on Blackwing, but the marginal utility is nil outside an artistry context, if then. Save the money for other things.

BIC 4-Color Ballpoint Pen, Medium Point (1.0mm)

    Pros

  • Great quality, incredibly durable, great form factor.
  • Makes grading papers (self grading, or if she becomes a TA) turned in via hard copy a bit simpler. I had my own system that I maintained so that students could understand (Green - Good, Red - Rework, Blue - Style, Black - Final Comments)

Since I am pickiest about those things, I will give more general comments about the rest.

  • Battery phone case, back up laptop charger, extra phone cables all work wonders. Having an extra on hand lets you not stress about the tools you need to succeed.

  • A good padfolio is both useful and a nod to the history of our profession in some circles. I went with Levenger, but everyone has their preferences.

  • The best bookstand on the market, in my humble opinion.

This is more general, and beyond the scope of what you asked, but I felt like giving unasked for advice so you can take it or leave it.
    Sleeping & Home Life

  • The surliest 2L will casually throw around comments about sleep being for the weak, but there is literally no other way to get the kind of rest your mind and body needs. Invest in the things and habits that make great sleep possible, whatever that may be for her. And do the best you can to never be a barrier to it.
  • Sundays should be for rest and keeping everying not-school related on track. Need to visit friends or family? A few hours on Sunday is a great time to do that. Pre-plan meals and do bulk cooking to keep work down during the week. Get all the laundry done, get the kitchen clean, make sure you don't run out of toothpaste on Wednesday morning. Sunday evening you can get your reading done for Monday, but finish the night doing something restful so you don't go into Monday feeling you're jumping off a cliff.
  • Low-effort acts of kindness do a lot of work. Writing a note, leaving a message, suprising her with a small and thoughtful gift are all great ways to show you care without imposing too much on her time and autonomy. Date night is important, and keeping a running list of things you can do at a drop of a hat for different amounts of time and money is helpful, but keeping your relationship strong through what in all likelihood will be a time of incredible change and transformation is about putting in the effort without demanding an equal or greater act of reciprocation. Even when the thank you text gets delayed more than it should, or she snaps at you unfairly, the body of love you show will find its way through to the end. The best way to show you love her is to enable her success and let her respond in ways that make sense while she figures this whole thing out.
  • This is a very personal area that I will not spend too much time on, but here it goes. You may think you are a good lover now, and I hope you are. Try to be the best version of that for her now, in whatever form that takes. It helps a lot, proportionately to how much it's important to your relationship.

    Health & Wellness

  • This is not a gendered comment, even and especially coming from the perspective of a guy who had some bad habits he broke before and took into law school. Any habits you thought were hard to break before law school are going to be multiples harder in law school. Dealing with this may be damage control, or require more work, depending on what it is. A caffiene fiend is going to reach unparalled heights. None of my friends who smoked going into law school found a way to quit. The moderate drinkers became heavy drinkers. Some people took up the gym as a new religion, but most stayed true to form. The only real way to know how to handle this is to either stop it quick or find an adult and productive way to keeps things reasonable.

  • For the love of all that is holy, exercise. It is proven to help brain function whether in cognitive skills or emotional health or stress reduction. If it's nonexistent now, start small and try to build up to some routine of significance while it can become a habit and before the midsemester crunch hits.

I guess I'll tag /u/aoifhasoifha in this as well.

Ideally for me, I'd want a Freesync/GSync 1440p 144hz IPS/AH-VA panel so the colors match my QNIX QX2710 a lot better, but it's taking forever for those to come down in price. The cheapest seems to be, in typical korean monitor fashion, the Pixio PX277, but it was a good $50-$100 more than I wanted to pay and there were more issues than I'd like.

So when I saw the unintentionally cheap Monoprice Zero-G a couple weeks ago, I picked it up even though it was a TN panel. Why?

I had seen the Acer XG270HU at my local Fry's Electronics and was pleasantly surprised how good of a panel it was despite it being TN. Color shift and colors were much better than any of my cheap 1080p monitors I had at home. Knowing that both the TN and VA/IPS 1440p 144hz panels come from one manufacturer - AU Optronics(owned by Acer), I crossed my fingers and bought the Monoprice Zero-G. I currently have a GTX 980, so no sort of adaptive sync for me unfortunately.

---------------
How do the two panels compare?

TN is still TN. Colors on my Monoprice are not as vibrant as my QNIX. Whites looks more natural and smoother on the QNIX. Gradients have a smoother stepping on the QNIX versus the Monoprice. It is still possible to notice some minor color shifting since a 27" monitor is quite large.

For reference, I have both monitors mounted on this monitor stand, with the Monoprice facing me straight on and the QNIX to my right, angled a bit inwards toward me. Since I moved my QNIX from my primary to secondary and put the Monoprice as my primary monitor, color shifting on the Monoprice hasn't really bugged me at all. And of course, with the QNIX being IPS/PLS, it has no color shifting issues while sitting to the side. All in all, I still find the colors on the Monoprice satisfactory enough. I have no plans on returning the monitor.

In terms of refresh rate, I would say that 144hz is a relatively small but noticeable jump over 96hz. The jump from 60 to 96hz was much, much more noticeable for me.

Both monitors have big bezels. And for desktops, big bezels don't really matter much to me because I'm not space limited. Laptops on the other hand...there's a reason why I have a XPS 13.

---------------
Using 2 1440p monitors, at least for me, is really nice. I originally had a vertical 1080p monitor as my secondary, but the 1080 width was just too narrow for a lot of websites and content. Having a 1440p monitor lets me view 2 windows side by side quite easily and the shorter vertical height hasn't really been an issue. Since they're both 27", pixel density is identical which is very much appreciated. So this generally means I have up to 4 windows open and viewable at the same time. As a programmer, this is super useful. I generally dedicate my main monitor to the main coding program and have the secondary display 2 windows with example code or other sorts of code references.

For gaming, I obviously only use one window. Secondary window usually gets chat duty, whether that be steam/battle.net/discord or whatever. Something to keep in mind is that if you hook up two monitors with different refresh rates to the same graphics card(at least with nvidia, not 100% sure with intel/amd), there might be some stuttering on the higher refresh rate monitor if you do something graphical(e.g. playing a video) on the monitor with lower refresh rate. It was very noticeable when I was using 96hz-60hz pairings, but now that it's 144hz-96hz, it's much less noticeable. Generally not really an issue unless I'm playing first person shooters.

Since putting 2 27" panels next to each other in horizontal orientation results in a lot of screen real estate, it also means that you get a lot of neck "exercise". In my particular setup, I have to look almost 80 degrees to the right to look directly at the right side of my QNIX. If you layout your panels in a more symmetrical fashion, it might be a different story, but it's still something to consider.

----------
If you have any other questions or concerns, just lmk and I'll see if I can answer them.

At $3500, there's no reason not to get an Intel processor. I'd recommend Ryzen if you're on a budget and trying to do heavily multithreaded tasks, but you might as well go all-out in getting great workstation performance while having the single-threaded performance to not throttle games.

So your build is centered around a 8700K, 32GB of 3000MHz RAM (the sweet spot between high performance, minimizing decreasing marginal benefit to performance, and price), two SSDs (one PCIe/NVMe, and one large SATA drive), and a 1080 Ti.

The 500GB 960 EVO is good for high resolution files and big projects for your Photoshop/3D Studio usage, because of its incredible read/write speeds. However, these read/write speeds aren't really that beneficial to gaming or decreasing load times, so use the 1TB MX300 for your gaming library and other usage. As time goes by and you need more space, you can add a cheap 2TB HDD for like media storage if you really need it. I personally go SSD-only in my desktop and I'm fine with 1TB, since so much media is streamed now.

For a $3500 build, there's absolutely no way you can forgo a 1080 Ti.

For monitors, I chose two 27" 2560x1440 AOC panels, since having matching brands and sizes is nice for aesthetics. They have different stands, so I'd suggest a dual-arm Ergotech stand if it bothers you as much as it would bother me. Both are IPS and can be color-calibrated to match screen profiles, but one is 165Hz and has G-SYNC, making it your primary gaming monitor, and the other is 60Hz, to be used as your secondary.

For peripherals, I went with a Cooler Master mechanical keyboard and a Mionix Castor mouse. Join our cult at /r/MechanicalKeyboards, you won't regret it, but your wallet will. The Mionix Castor is also what I personally use, because I don't like how big, heavy, and overkill most Logitech mice are. The Mionix Castor has a nice simple rubbery coating, a lightweight design, and a good sensor.

The VESA mountable iMacs are a special sku, and as far as I know they don't sell the mount by itself (the actually do for the iMac Pro and it looks like it's available in other countries?). Taking apart the the 27-inch iMac isn't impossible, but it's not for the faint of heart either.

You might be able to have them install one as a repair, or perhaps there are grey market or third party parts available that do the same thing. There's one that attaches to the stand, but that's not really that aesthetically pleasing.

We have one at work that's mounted on an arm, and it's definitely nice. Good luck.

u/saeraphas · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

For a year or so after college, between work at an MSP and coming home to an empty apartment and a very enthusiastic WoW habit, I was spending 17 hours a day in front of a computer. I started experiencing wrist pain that was so bad I couldn't drive my car anymore. I switched to a more ergonomic keyboard/mouse setup and my wrist pain disappeared within a few of weeks.

I've long since left the MSP and WoW, but I've kept the keyboard and mouse, and recommended the same pair to many coworkers.

Microsoft Natural 4000 Ergonomic Keyboard

Logitech G400 Mouse

I also make liberal use of Allsop Metal Art Monitor Risers and clamp-on monitor arms - in my opinion, monitor position is just as important as proper keyboard and mouse ergonomics because it affects back, shoulders, neck, and eye strain too.

EDIT:

In the past, I've had clients and management balk at the price tags on ergonomic hardware. They'll argue something like "I can go to Wal-Mart and buy a new mouse for fifteen dollars. Why should I spend four times that much on a video gaming mouse?" because they don't understand the value that ergonomic hardware actually provides in a workplace.

  1. Users who are comfortable in their workspaces can be more productive. It's tough to measure this one, because it's lots of little pieces that add up. From personal experience, though, I don't need to take as many breaks now as I did before I moved my monitors to a comfortable elevation, because my eyes and neck don't get fatigued as easily.

  2. Users who have a workspace that fits them are more likely to be happy in their jobs and are more likely to stay in their jobs longer. Even in my current sysadmin role, I still do a lot of deskside support, and I get to observe people in their workspaces doing all kinds of uncomfortable things, because they don't know that it can be any different. For example, I have a user whose workload is primarily oriented towards data entry and scheduling. She should have been issued a desktop or thin client, but since she occasionally needs to record meeting minutes in a conference room, the previous tech staff had issued her a 14" laptop. So every day she'd hunch over her desk and squint to see the screen. I installed a 24" monitor, a slightly more ergonomic keyboard and an ergonomic mouse while she was out at lunch. When I came in the next day, I had a handwritten thankyou card under my office door and a plate of homemade cookies in my mailbox, and so did the CFO and CEO. She was awestruck that we'd go out of our way to spend a little money on making her more comfortable. Total pricetag for the company? $200.

  3. New hardware is cheap. New staff are expensive. If I were to completely refit an existing staff's work area with a new monitor on an adjustable arm, ergonomic keyboard and mouse, and adjustable lumbar chair, it would cost the company less than $800, including my time. If we have to replace a staff, they have to go through a two-week paid training before they start doing any work, and it's some weeks after that before they are productive at the same level of the staff they replaced. The cost to the company during that time is thousands of dollars.

  4. Worker's compensation claims are expensive, even if the company doesn't have to pay. Because lawyers.

That was a perfect answer man I love it! I was thinking about my heatsink but I didn't really put that much thought into it! I plan on stay 1440p 60hz for a good while at least until 4k becomes really affordable you know. The 1080 seemed right up my ally for a perfect 1440p card I was thinking I may just save up some money for it and go for it I've been thinking about that since it came out actually! Would you think a second monitor would be worth it though? I've been looking at these stands
(http://shop.ergotechgroup.com/dual-monitor-horizontal-desk-stand/)

and since theres no visa mount on my monitor i've been looking at these too (https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Bracket-Monitors-G227HQL-G247HYL/dp/B01771Q6U2/ref=pd_sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=319deaMR3cL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=P59GBKDCGRN950E3GJVR0)

as for the hard drive, I currently have my os on one, games between the other too and just other stuff through on the 1tb. here's my steam profile too im with you on that huge steam library (steamcommunity.com/id/mewe123/) would you recomend a second wd blue 1tb?

I've been looking for something like this for a long time: http://imgur.com/a/bkE2U (The Roost for Books / Notebooks)

I want to prop up textbooks while working at my computer.

However, $60 for a bookstand is bit on the high side, and I have a desktop, not a laptop. And textbooks can get heavy, but I doubt I'll ever run into a 200-pound book.

On the other hand, the collapsible feature is appealing for storage. I would be interested in a cheaper version of the Roost that might not be made of such strong materials, but is meant only to hold books.

Just thought I'd mention it, if you ever saw the demand.

I know, just like how redditors pointed out other notebook stand options, there are options for books. But they are either like this (not cheap, sturdy, but take up a lot of desk space): http://www.amazon.com/Book-Stand-Bookstand-Bookstands-Holder/dp/B001J9SFXK or like this (cheap, collapsible and look like they can't hold shit): http://www.amazon.com/Fellowes-Wire-Study-Stand-Silver-10024/dp/B00006B8HT/ref=pd_sim_op_1

u/bgfinkel · 2 pointsr/PAstudent

I see! It depends what notetaking software you use.

iPad solution: I would suggest this stand with an apple pencil compatible iPad. This one is only $250 and is compatible with the apple pencil. However, think about how you're going to have to load the lectures onto the iPad.

You can probably manage it on the iPad, but you're going to need to access the lecture through your email/online student center which could get difficult on the ipad.

A 2-in-1 laptop is a more elegant solution. You can download the lecture from wherever it comes from, then switch the laptop into a tablet and place it on the stand. Check out this summary by wirecutter on the best 2-in-1 laptop solutions.

Hope that helps

I can't find the exact one I have (currently out on paternity leave), but it's something like this. It's counter weighted so you can go from sit to stand with one hand which is really nice.

I do wish my entire desk moved, I can't really review drawings or look at more than two documents at the same time while standing, but it's a good compromise.

u/Sybertron · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get a standing desk, here's a popular one (though you may need to modify the mousepad for gaming) Solves all the back issues, generally is better for your body/weight, and makes any chair more feasible.

http://www.amazon.com/Ergotron-WorkFit-S-33-341-200-Sit-Stand-Workstation/dp/B003Y3PF6E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1368108797&sr=8-2&keywords=ergotron

If you really want a chair, costco has some of the best deals under 200. Make sure to get a full back, and measure how high you want your mousepad at, make sure the arm rests are going to come just under that to support your arm while gaming.

This. Mine is still in the mail on the way to me but someone has done this before and attached pictures in the reviews. It has good weight tolerances and size options and generally looks really clean and simple. I'm going to use it to get my PC off my standing desk but off the carpet too. I'm sorry that I can't recommended it as an owner but I definitely think it's worth checking out. There is clear glass, black glass, and aluminium as options.

u/lokkenjawnz · 1 pointr/battlestations

Awesome! I believe I found the same thing on US Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Halter-Single-Monitor-Mount-monitors/dp/B00EO7XH0U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1381167575&sr=8-4&keywords=monitor+mount+27

It looks like several companies produce that same mount, this one has Prime shipping though which is nice.

Are you happy with the mount? I've got a very similar setup to yours right now, minus the dual monitor mount. I've got a 22" monitor in portrait to the left of my 27", and I definitely like the setup, but it'd be nice to get them up off the desk, allow for a bit more clearance.

u/Poplarrr · 11 pointsr/buildapcsales

I have this monitor AMA.

Basic overview: Pretty decent colors, OSD is pretty nice. HDMI and DP will send power-off signals so if you have multiple monitors on an older system it's kind of annoying (I get around this by taping over pin 19 on the HDMI cable). HDMI and DP at 60fps as long as you're on DP 1.4 (I think?) or HDMI 2.0.

Biggest issue is the stand. It's super light and feels like it always wants to fall forward. Not balanced well at all. If you want to VESA mount this, this is not the monitor for you. I purchased an adapter kit and it works OK but all you can do is detach the base, there's about 5" of stand left.

It's not bad at all, but you can definitely do better.

u/free_beer · 3 pointsr/mac

I'm actually more interested in lowering the height :)

As far as I know you absolutely can not remove the Late 2012 and up iMac stand without tearing down the whole machine. I'm pretty positive about this. That one you linked actually says:

> 27-inch iMac (late 2009, mid 2010, and mid 2011)

You can add an aftermarket VESA mount.. but it's kinda janky.

I've actually just pulled the trigger a few mins ago and ordered one with the factory VESA mount. Gonna slap it on this and see how it goes. Wish me luck!

nonono not those! if you think you'll have a wall of monitors like 6-8 then i would get this: https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Adjustable-Screens-STAND-V004/dp/B009S7IDJQ?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_11693193011

if you're going for just 3 or maybe 3 and 1 on top of the middle or something like that, get 3 of these: https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Adjustable-Articulating-Counterbalance-STAND-V001O/dp/B01NH0HTM5?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_11693193011

i personally have 2 of the 2x2's and 1 of the 2x1's and i mix and match the arms between to configure my monitors accordingly. try to think of what your future setup will be to save on the cheddar 👌

No prob.

I do have personal experience with the single and dual vivo mounts.

Vivo pole mounts are solidly built metal, all the pieces screw together well and generally, I find them trust worthy and sound enough to mount expensive (to me at least) monitors on. I'm also pretty sure that all these pole monitor mounts are made off some shared reference design and that all the copy-cat brands are probably just as good.

The Vivo articulating arm mount, which I also have is pretty good, but this mount has plastic parts (along the arms, as covers to hide cables) which isn't as strong as metal.

Generally, I set up the monitors in position once, and never move them until I want to set up everything all over, so I prefer pole mounts and don't mind that it takes some wrenching to adjust height.

Right now, I'm using a standing desk height Vivo mount (with the tall pole) to mount 2 29 inch ultrawides on top of each other. I also have a single arm that holds a 23 inch HD in portrait mode. Here's a pic.

The way you want the horizontal and vertical monitors to line up with each other (landscape lined up with tops of portrait monitors) can not be done with a dual Vivo pole mount - the arms are at the same level.

Mount

As for the desk, I was in the same spot as you before I added a second monitor. The desk isn't quite as wobbly as the non solid wood tabletop i had before but it's definitely not ideal. I will be upgrading the legs eventually. I would recommend getting more stable legs for the solid wood tops or using the drawer units.

I am not sure if you can do a 5.1 by running speaker wires under a rug, etc. But I had a similar situation and I placed the center channel speaker and two book shelf speakers on top of the TV stand (left and right channels). I put the receiver on a stand behind the center channel speaker. I ran speaker wires under a rug and put the left and right surround sound speakers on stands next to the sofa. I put the subwoofer behind the sofa.

Later, I even put two bookshelf speakers and another subwoofer behind the sofa and for a short time was running a 7.2 surround sound system. It did not get much stereo separation, but it sounded great compared to a sound bar. Your situation is actually better than mine in some ways due to you having more room to put larger speakers under the TV than I had.

Here is the speakers and stand I was working with: http://amzn.com/B001202C44

Here is a stand similar to what I used for the receiver: http://amzn.com/B003M2YDE2

My wife was skeptical at first, but thought it was a good solution after I got it all hooked up.

Whether or not you like to type your notes or you like to write them out by hand like me, a good investment is a portable book stand. I can't tell you how useful one of those things was when I was reading for my oral exams.

I would say as far as reading and organization goes that there's no universal method that works for everyone; recognize your style and cater to it. I have to read things on paper (I hate e-books) and I have to take notes on paper, so I'll generally write in books and jot things down on PDF documents.

My tendency is to scribble short notes about refutation - just enough to help me remember what I disagreed with - and more detailed notes that will help me summarize the book's argument when I'm finished. Then I go through my notes and write a "literature review" of what I've read. I try to summarize the piece's argument as succinctly as possible and offer some constructive criticism - all within the span of less than a thousand words, which is about the word limit for a journal review. This helps me remember the book better than simply reading it, particularly if it's not a remarkable one.

My other piece of advice: for the love of God, be consistent. I've had colleagues who've had to switch note-taking methods midway through their research and ended up with a clusterfuck on their hands trying to adapt one format to another (in this case, note cards to Endnote X5).

I bought mine a couple years ago and just kept it because it did what I needed to do without breaking the bank. They're honestly both really good mounts depending on what you're looking for.

I hope I helped!

Yeah, I have a Dell S something or another that doesn't have VESA, but did have a solid metal mounting point for the stand, so I was able to buy this adapter in order to VESA mount it. The downside was that this adapter is not centered height wise and that it made for a very wobbly setup. I ended up ordering another ultrasharp to match my main monitor, which now I wish I would have just splurged for a 1440P monitor. I love my Ultrasharps, so I will be sad to see one get demoted to my wife's desk. The old Dell S something or another will get brought to my office, and I might give my friend my ViewSonic 22" 1080P to upgrade his 768p monitor that he runs with a 970 lol!

i would personally recommend (Satechi F1 Smart Monitor Stand with Four USB Ports and Headphone / Microphone Extension Ports) it allows you to put things underneath it and it gives you more USB ports and a headphone port right in front of you which is always useful. there is a USB 2.0 and a 3.0 version, its a great product depending on if it would put the monitor at the right height for you.

Something I recently purchased which I really like is a portable book stand - it tends to be a pain to have to carefully turn each page, but it is much easier than having to hold a book open and write/constantly put weight on the book.

It has also helped immensely to have a good: roomy backpack with lots of compartments, wireless mouse for my laptop, and a detailed day planner.

u/cuteintern · 2 pointsr/Android

I have a book stand that is awesome for holding my tablet. It's wrought iron, very basic, and does a killer job holding my tablet in landscape form. If I were to use it for a phone I would have to rig something with a ruler and a book to give it a proper place to rest, but it's totally doable.

Unfortunately, it was given to me by an aunt before I went to college, and there are no marks on it to distinguish it.

You might be able to go with something like this from Amazon or at least derive some inspiration from that. I saw a ton of book stands on Amazon - I would imagine there's something out there you could use.

And there's nothing to stop you from making one yourself out of some nice lumber from a hardware store.

u/mvukmirovic · 1 pointr/Monitors

You can just remove the other two arms, and use them later if you decide to change your setup. Also, it is built very well and sturdy, especially at that price. u/AXISMGT · 0 pointsr/StandingDesk

I have a 34” wide screen mounted to my standing desk, and I use a dual monitor gas shock articulating arm system (the other monitor is a vertical 27”)

The main issue I see with it is that the monitor is so wide that it’s hard to keep it perfectly straight, it has a weird “center of balance” which makes it rotate on the mount very easily, I can only imagine this would be even more pronounced for you.

Id probably recommend a single monitor mount for you.

This is the standard one;

This is the articulating one, which may give you rotation issues (although maybe it’s just me).

FYI, you can get a VESA adaptor for that monitor since the stand sucks so bad. I had that monitor myself for about a year and a half. I ended up selling it and buying a refurbished dell u2515h instead (same panel, better stand and I/O and comes with VESA mounts). Then I bought a second one on a really good /r/buildapcsales deal and then mounted them both.

I even had to rig the plastic spacer for the screw because the screw included with the base for the xg isn't threaded far enough down. I'd love to get one that replaces the whole neck instead.

You had to remove some of the plastic on the monitor, right? does the original stand then still work in case I sold the monitors and someone wanted to use the stand?

Use a book stand on the desk or table. I have several kinds for different types of book, like this and this.

Yeah, I really do miss having an extra monitor sometimes, it does take some getting used to. That's how I always done it anyway, if anything, you could always just turn them off if they get distracting.

The first one I found on Amazon (link) claims to hold 3 27" screens so I don't see why not. This was just the first one I found so I cannot comment on quality but the reviews are usually handy for stuff like that. I don't think an arm could do it, if so you'd need a solid desk.

They do make desk risers specifically for this, but as you want it raised a foot that would be dangerous. I don't know if there is anything that will look smart and be safe to raise it that much.

I have this thing: https://www.amazon.com/BestBookStand-Actto-BST-09-adjustable-Portable/dp/B005IV6U0U/r

It's an ugly color, but it's sturdy and the little clear arms work well for holding the textbook pages in place.

u/aguywholikesclothes · 13 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I built this using quad LG 29UM68-P monitors (which I found on sale for $250 each) and this monitor stand. It barely fits, but there is enough room where you can move them all very easily.

u/SilkyZ · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I have this one with a 34" UW and a 15" 16:9 in portrait. I imagin you can fit a 29" and a 24" on just fine

u/hankhill72 · 3 pointsr/macsetups

Thanks! I used this VESA mount kit with this wall mount. I also used a Sawzall to cut the iMac stand (which worked surprisingly well).

u/CorruptMilkshake · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This one. Nothing fancy but solid enough to support a couple of heavy screens.

and then the ViewSonic is just a free 27" some tech startup gave me a few years ago when they moved back to SF.

I'm using an HDMI display port and thunderbolt port for the portraits, and this active display converter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BPEV1XK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for the view sonic.

It's a bit laggy sometimes, so I'm considering an eGPU for running all three screens so I can have all in full res and no latency issues.

Otherplace, I bought this stand to sit my Sony 65900e. Raises the tv anywhere between 2 and 6 inches (depending on if you use the peg legs or not). GL

u/Nexdeus · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You can use one, grab a "gas spring mount". With a gas spring monitor arm/mount you'll be able to adjust the heights very easily and put them exactly where you want.

I don’t have time to scroll through all the knee jerk apple hate posts to see if anyone else posted this but two points of clarification as I literally am awaiting my iMac right now and went through exactly what you did:

  1. There is another iMac model that ships without a stand. I know that’s really stupid. But if the guy helping you thought you were researching before buying there is an option.

  2. if you want the model with a stand but still want to vesa mount it, check out this solution: VIVO Adapter VESA Mount Kit | Bracket Set for Apple 21.5 inch and 27 inch iMac (Late 2009 to Current Models) LED Display Computer (Stand-MACB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RW9F336/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.Mz0DbEVMR7JC

The stand will still be there but it will be mounted. Others I’ve read use the stand as a place to store the keyboard off the desk.

Doesn’t address the assholishness of the design and the choices but there are options.

Plus I’m not entirely convinced that the brave can’t still remove the stand. I’m definitely going to look into it. Literally.
u/Subsinuous · 1 pointr/battlestations

I guess that'd make sense if there's a vent at the bottom.

I think this is nice.
PC Stand ofc I'd prefer a non-glass one on wheels or something. That way it'd be easier to move around when trying to reach the back or just moving in general.

Yes there are some that are monitor specific or universal ones that are pretty much just a giant clamp that will hold your monitor from the top and bottom bezel.

I believe this would fit but I am not 100% sure.

This one is compatible. I believe the model isn't listed an amazon's page, but the vendor's site lists this monitor as compatible. The wobble's not too terrible. I notice every couple of days that my monitor is slightly askew and just fix it by hand.

I wouldn't recommend portrait mode, as the adapter just slides into place and there's no bolt.

u/ast3r3x · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

A quick estimate is ~63lbs. That sounds heavy, I question my math. But it isn't like I am carrying it around, it sits on a glass stand on a plastic mat for using an office chair on carpet. So it can easily just be slid around to get access to it.

u/DammitSyn · 2 pointsr/battlestations

They are 2x AOC i2296Vw monitors and 2x of these VESA monitor mounts. Those AOC monitors regularly go on sale on Woot/Meh for ~$80 in price. They have very thin bezels (~0.5" on the top and sides).

Get a book stand!! It’ll save your life when you’re trying to read and take notes (or write an essay) at the same time. This: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IV6U0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WL3hDbH6HSED4 is the one I use. I take it to class and people are legitimately jealous — I’ve had other people end up bringing them, too. It’s so useful, esp if you’re in a book-heavy class.

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00P1802RW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works and pretty okay for the money. Only downside is that you can't really lock the monitors in place other than height. Swivel and tilt are quite loose even when tightened. So if you touch the screen. Even to turn it on they are likely to move little bit.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006B8HT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is inferior to the Staples one that I bought before... but I can't find the link now. Basically both legs move, so if you have intermittent OCD you're just going to readjust it every 5 secs until it's straight. The Staples one they move together and they also slope a bit more.

u/vestigial · 1 pointr/iamverysmart

u/thiccUserLol · 1 pointr/Monitors

I have a hard time finding the specs of this monitor for some reason.
Look in the specs it is VESA mountable, if not mentioned then it's probably not compatible.

However, I see there are some adapters, so it could do it if you really want this monitor.

I can't seem to find any in-depth, professional reviews about this monitor. PC Part Picker's list of monitors that are at least 1440p tells me the G257HU is the cheapest one it knows, and it's been like that for months.

There's no VESA mount, but there are adapters for that; this one is $32.
