Fear cuts deeper than swords
OOH I LOVE SCAVENGER HUNTS. Placeholder. I'm working on this. Goodbye sunday night productivity.
EDIT Aug 11, 11:44pm PST
1.) something that is gray.
2.) Something reminiscent of rain. It rains so much in my city and on those days I like to have my tea and soup and all the yummy hot homecooked food at school in the library while I study. I already have a great thermos for my tea and hot cocoa but not for my soups/food.
3.) Something food related that is unusual. I don't know if this is necessarily food related but WOOOO TEA. MANA-TEA. Seriously this is awesome.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. A wii for my mom because she has been wanting a wii or ipad for a long time. My bro and i think the wii would be better because at least we could all play it together when we go home to visit.
5.) I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It's the book I just finished reading and I feel like it has helped me a lot. I am so much more motivated and driven and it is helping me make some tough choices in my life. I am a senior in college but this book can help anyone who is at any place in their life I think. I currently have this on my wishlist which is like a supplement to the book. Seriously though, read it, share it with everyone you know. Let's make the world a happier place.
6.) An item that is less than a dollar. Awww yeee. They always seem to have one of these on the coffee table at my brother's house. Wherever he lives. Even though it's never his. But yeah, they're cool but I don't actually want one.
7.) Something related to cats. THIS IS SO AWESOME. I have another mug with the disappearing thing on my wishlist too. But yeah, I love cats, I just don't have much cat stuff on my wishlist. I do need a real cat though... hint hint nudge nudge
EDIT Aug 12, 12:15am PST
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. Okay it's not Amazon but it is beautiful and I have had my eye on it for a year. Despite that fact that I do not plan on having children for at least 8 years. Dem hormones are a'ragin.
9.) I know it's not REALLY a movie but... A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Because it is so beautiful and awe inspiring. It really brings me a sense of peace every time I watch it.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. I can put on my holy strainer hat and pray to The Flying Spaghetti Monster to save me from the zombies.
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. I know I used this for another one but really, I think doing these exercises would help me in all areas of life.
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. These beauties, even though I doubt I can grow them without a yard...
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? My little acer hand me down freezes a lot, can't do multiple things at once, doesn't have a cd drive, has a screen too tiny to edit photos or edit my website. Basically everything is frustrating. And I'm a college student. So I use the computer for basically everything... and everything the little laptop CAN do takes forever.
EDIT Aug 12, 1:51am PST
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. If you don't think that is big enough, then here, but it's newly added.
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. Well, I'm pretty sure this is smaller than a golf ball. If it wasn't, I'd be disappointed.
16.) Something that smells wonderful. Mmm imagine the ginger lemon grass!
17.) A (SFW) toy. And here's another one because I couldn't decide which one looks more fun...
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. Currently obsessed with learning all kinds of new jewelry techniques! Also obsessed with tea because it's the one thing my boyfriend and I developed an interest in together. It didn't start out as either of our interests.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. THIS IS SO PRETTY AND USEFUL AT THE SAME TIME. Seriously so cute, has lovely details, 8gb, and you can wear it as a pendant. Whaaaat!
EDIT: this lovely is made in oregon!
This toatser has a setting for frozen bagels and that makes it my favorite. I love love keeping my bagels in the freezer because they last for so much longer. I buy a dozen at Panera, freeze them, and then have fresh tasting bagels every morning for weeks.
I love this "Now Showing" wall plaque for movie buffs. And I also love the home theatre sign!
I guess if I won this, and since rule 3 states to choose something, I would really, really want this $20 Coleman propane burner for camping.
Here's one that has good reviews, comes in purple or grey, has extra wide slots, and has bagel and frozen and other settings
I suggest getting a wall decal! Theyre cheap and awesome. Like this one that's Dr Seuss, and inspirational... or this one that gives you areas to place pictures. But you can also get 3D butterflies and chalkboard sheets.
As for gift, what I'd really like is some new watercolors (either cakes or pencils) and I need more paper. Probably one of the mixed media visual journal booklets as they're the best bang for the buck. Or you can look thru my lists (sorted by price) to whatever your budget is and find something with a "high" or above ranking if you like.
Hope I helped!!
(Edit: a bot commented on this with all the non-mobile versions of my links, so feel free to check that out if you're on a desktop)
if you live in a small aparment get one of these Convection toaster oven
they're super useful for roasting small stuff like chicken or even for pizza. they are small and very easy to use. I got one as a wedding gift and it was the second best thing I got.
I've made cakes, brownies, chicken, pork shoulder, lasagna and others in it. one of my favorite things in my kitchen.
Example.
It's like a regular broiler oven with heat elements on both the top and bottom (selectable), but in a small countertop version. Great for making small things other than toast.
My favorite is pizza muffins: Cut English muffin in half, pre-toast a little. Add pizza sauce, parmesan cheese, American or mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni slices. Put in broiler or toaster oven and cook until the cheese is bubbly. Final (and most important) step: Eat before they have had a chance to properly cool, and scorch the shit out of the roof of your mouth.
I was just gifted this key holder I love it, its perfect size and pretty, my SO and I hang our keys and sunglasses on it! :)
This retro toaster oven/coffee maker is cute and it comes in different colors!
A nice shower head I HATE the low pressure spray everywhere shower head that came with my apartment. Lol
Tupperware is essential I didn't realize how important it was when we first moved in until my SO had to take macaroni salad in a ziplock for lunch xD
Cutting boards are also really helpful! I have a marble one for meat but the flexible ones make cutting up veggies and adding them to your dish way easier!
Thanks! I cooked it in my room. I love this thing. I will tell you, no need for pots, pans, ovens, nothing but this convection oven. I love it. Look into it, it really helped me eat better. No bread, just veggies and meat. I tossed some olive oil on those mushrooms and cooked them all at once. :)
Totally Worth $150
This is killer and an unbeatable value.
Cast iron. Make a ton of bacon to begin seasoning. Eat all the bacon!
Two cast iron pans make an excellent panini press. Reheat your pizza in a dry, hot, covered skillet for wonderful crispy crust. Quickly nuking it beforehand helps.
This thing is also excellent. And cheap.
Spend the balance on great knives, a diamond steel, a microplane, tongs.
The induction burner, with a dutch oven makes a crock pot unnecessary. Braised foods kept me out of the dining hall for years.
Just get a toaster oven. I haven't used one of these archaic 'bread only' types of toasters in ages, but a toaster oven basically gives you free reign to toast whatever and however you want. It heats up in no time, so there's none of that preheating nonsense, you can make anything you would normally make in an oven or reheat food in it (leftover pizza is amazing coming out of a toaster oven), and the best part is it doesn't heat the whole room up and you can (usually, depending on the model) easily see inside or pop it open to check how your stuff's doing. There's no guesswork, no surprise burnt results, no incomprehensible rules to how it does what it does. You just set the temp, set the time, and go~
For reference, the one I use is fairly cheap and a bit simplistic, but you get good results with it. It's worth the extra compared to what you'd pay for a standard toaster~
That's weird. Where do you live?
Toaster ovens can be bought at damned near any store (that carries kitchen appliance-y things) for about $20 in the US. I've used the same $20 toaster oven for about ten years, and it still works fine (it's getting pretty ugly with age, but is still functional). They aren't difficult to find; any store that sells kitchen appliances, even just a small selection of them, will have at least a couple of toaster ovens on the shelves. Walmart, Target, etc. all usually carry a few toaster ovens beside the toasters. I could have a new one in ten minutes in any city in the country, if mine broke and I had a toasting emergency.
Amazon has a decent looking one here for $22. There's cheaper even than that, but it's a brand I don't know, so wouldn't want to recommend it. Oster makes pretty good stuff, and it has good reviews.
Sure, you can spend more, but if you spend over $50 you should get one with convection oven features; that's about the low price point for a decent convection/toaster oven in the US. A convection oven has an air circulating fan that makes things cook (even) faster and more evenly. I plan to get a convection model next time I replace my toaster oven, so I'll spend over $50, but you definitely don't have to. Amazon has this beauty for only $54.
Man, I really like toaster ovens. I can't believe I'm still ranting about toaster ovens on the internet.
I love it! I use it for (obvi) toast all the time, and keeping things warm, like tonight...the meatballs were done early, so I foiled them up and stuck them in there on warm. Also good for a pizza slice, too...but [mine's pretty small,] (http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-ensemble-Toastation-22722/dp/B00CXVX8DK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418181374&sr=8-1&keywords=toaster+oven+red) you can't get a lot in there. I don't know if they make them bigger.
there are some cookbooks on amazon for frugal student cooking
used copies plus shipping is about $5. and some have great reviews.
Obviously there some awesome websites for recipes http://studentrecipes.com/ http://www.budgetbytes.com/
What i found useful were recipes you could make from raw ingredients you could get easily cheaply and store well. this is why pasta, rice and noodles are popular. the base is always handy and all you have to do is add dressings. Cans of beans and nuts are also great ways to add a protein to your meal without having to worry about it going bad before you eat it.
Find about 12 recipes you like and can make easily and then just rotate them. That's enough to keep you from being bored, save MEAT centered recipes for once a week, such as in a crockpot and the rest of the week eat meat free. Because meat is the most expensive ingredient and the easiest to screw up and let it go bad before you remember to cook it. Essentially you buy the meat on the same day you cook it and the leftovers go in the fridge and have to be eaten before the next time you cook meat, so the leftover won't go blue and fuzzy.
Indeed a crockpot is essentia Proctor 1.5 slow cooker $13 but i'd get the biggest one you can afford. ...actually when i moved in this apartment i had no serious money and no stove. I started off with all the inexpensive items from Proctor Silex - usually sold in walgreens, cvs, and other cheap appliance stores... Proctor 1 liter electric kettle $14 Proctor Toaster Oven $22 Proctor Hot Plate $14 which does have a draw back for boiling large pots of anyting, it's really a more egg frying/ grilled cheesy thing. Black and Decker has a 3 cup rice cooker for $12
It is easy for your dorm room to get unkempt if you start cooking in it for real, so a dedicated foot locker perhaps upright with shelves banged in. Put everything away clean when you don't use it. Put a dishpan in the locker, 1st thing you take out put your dirty items in it as you cook and eat, then take it to the bathroom and wash everything and then bring it all back and put it in the footlocker and then put everything in on top.
One of my favorite books was Cooking in a Bedsitter by Whitehorn..an English cookery book, but the ideas worked. A bedsitter is a dorm room with no running water, no fridge and nothing but a gas ring/hot plate to cook on. So basically you have to really think out what you are going to make and plan ahead. My solution was to cook small amounts very often so i didn't have to store a lot of food or leftovers.
I bought this for $63 when it went on sale on Amazon. It works wonderfully well and I use it daily. Hasn't shown any signs of stopping and there or may not be a 5 year warranty on it (according to reviews).
I actually cooked a pizza in there, didn't turn out bad. I prefer the oven though for pizza for the crispy crust. The convection bake is definitely the best part.
An electric roasting pan is awesome for cooking turkey. My mom uses one every year, which frees up the over for other cooking.
I think hers is pretty much this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000G0HPEI/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1415843537&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40
If I were doing thanksgiving at my place I would use a roaster. A large bird takes up a lot of oven space, and the roaster can sit pretty much anywhere
My wife and I were gifted a $200 toaster for our wedding a couple of years ago. It has since gone down in price to $100 or so. It’s actually a fucking great toaster. It has a couple buttons that I are really great, like the “lift and look” which lifts the toast and drops it right back in with out interrupting the cycle to allow a quick peek, and the “a bit more” which puts it back in for just a bit more.
Breville Die-Cast 2 Slice Toaster
Don't even have to pick up a Domino's bag specifically, I picked this one up off Amazon a couple months back to use doing UberEats. Pretty good quality and feels sturdier than the Domino's bags I was used to for years.
Not sure how well you can full-on reheat a pizza in one of those bags though, you'd want to keep it relatively low wattage lest you end up burning the liner of the bag. Experiment at home under supervision before trying it unattended in a boat for sure.
Honestly though, if money isn't an issue, why not just get a small dedicated pizza oven and just bring a frozen pizza from the grocery store with you, and toss it in the oven after you come up and let it cook while you stow gear & get out of the wet clothes?
They're called mini ovens in the UK/Europe. Pretty sure you can order from Amazon UK as here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quest-Mini-Oven-Litre-Black/dp/B00K22YJEY/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen-appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1474665185&sr=1-2&keywords=mini+oven
I bought the above and just put it in my office pantry. Use it every day to warm up burritos or my baked potatoes.
EDIT: You definitely get the same thing in France: https://www.amazon.fr/Mini-Oven-9-Litre-800W/dp/B00RY0X9NO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474665602&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+oven
Germany: https://www.amazon.de/Severin-2034-Toastofen-Garraum-schwarz-silber/dp/B003HD7YJC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474665688&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+oven
Not sure where you are from though.
I have something little like this and it works just as well as the pricier ones. Either that or resale shops may have one. Good luck!
An electric roaster oven. Kind of like a crock pot/slow cooker, but much larger and without quite as tight of a seal. Link. Last pork butt I smoked, I made four 10-lb. roasts, 6 hours on the smoker and 6 hours in the Nesco. Best batch I’ve ever made.
Sorry, but here is the best toaster I've used this every day for over 5 years and it still works flawlessly.
I have this one and it's awesome. Can take a whole bagel, just in one slot, and has settings specific to frozen things and bagels.
Here's a great clock for the wall.
If I were to win, I'd ask that you pick something off Mr. Man's giftlist, at the bottom of my lists.
>Do you REALLY need junks like "smart home"?
how else will i be able to enjoy my toaster strudel?
I have this one and it's awesome. I use my regular oven so much less because I can roast/bake/reheat small items without heating up the whole kitchen. I think ours is about three years old and it's fantastic.
if you end up cooking a lot of meat, consider getting a infrared oven like a Nuwave
I've had mine for 10+ years now, and it cooks meat perfectly, even straight from the freezer
Yup. There's tons of countertop & toaster ovens out there that fit frozen pizzas. Some of them have a round bit cut out of the back wall to make sure a pizza could fit.
Here's one that's only about $50 that fits a whole 12" pizza. They're also really good for chicken nuggets, fish strips & frozen buffalo wings.
...or baking a tray of brownies.
I suggest getting a combo microwave convection oven like the Cuisinart CMW-200 or a countertop convection oven with rotisserie like this Hamilton Beach model. Even though these countertop convection ovens are smaller than a regular oven, they are actually better for most baking because they take less time to heat up and cook much quicker and more evenly due to the air circulation. Instead of a slow cooker, an InstantPot electric pressure cooker is more useful because it acts as a slow cooker as one mode in addition to 5 or 6 other modes for rice cooking, pressure cooking, yogurt making, egg cooking, steaming and warming.

I think this is pretty cool, and if you can get away with this in your room, it really would open the options up for you. You can make eggs or a grilled cheese with the top griddle. Baked goods and casseroles/quiches with the oven part. There's a whole myriad of things you can boil in that there coffee pot.
In general, you need to add some healthy fats to your diet to gain some weight. Man cannot live by ramen alone- add some meat or at least sesame oil. Avocado. Cheese sandwiches and omelettes...
Sous vide ribs are amazing, especially beef. I use an electronic temperature controller, an electric roaster oven, a circulating pump, and foodsaver bags.
For beef, divide the ribs so that they fit in gallon bags. Slap a heavy dry rub on them. Vacuum seal them. Put them in the water at 140F for the first 4 hours. This is to ensure nothing nasty grows (I've cooked at lower temps to start, because rare and medium rare are my favorite, but occasionally a bag goes bad and blows up like a balloon) Lower the temp to 130F and cook for an additional 44-68 hours.
When they're done, let them rest a bit, so that you don't overcook them when searing, then take the juices from the bag and use it to make BBQ sauce.
Turn your grill up to max, and give the ribs a quick sear. If you want, brush with sauce, and sear a bit more. You'll end up with some amazingly tender ribs. Other methods can also produce fall off the bone ribs, but IMO, those methods overcook the meat and sacrifice flavor. Here the meat is still medium and pink, so it tastes like a juicy steak.
Pork ribs are similar, except I cook them at 145F for 18-24 hours.
This doesn't really answer your question, but I'm pretty happy with the Sharp Grill 2 Convection microwave. It's a combo microwave and electric oven, which can do some cool things with cooking meats especially. The major limitation is in the pre-set programs, which are clearly designed to prevent you from burning your house down or killing yourself eating undercooked food.
I got a toaster oven off Amazon through swagbucks, back when SBTV and Entertain Now was a bit more generous.
Pork shoulder--you can get at a super wal-mart less than $2 a pound. You may need a big portable oven that's what I throw a completely frozen shoulder into, then let it cook at 350 degrees F for 12 hours, then 300 degrees F for 12 hours. You can do so much with pulled pork shoulder from BBQ to tex style chili to just pork. You cook up 11 lbs of that and separate it and cool it and bag it then freeze it and you have food for weeks.
I love this [one] (http://smile.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-ensemble-Toastation-22722/dp/B00CXVX8DK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1426510172&sr=8-6&keywords=food+network+toaster)
It is $ 33.57 and it's a toaster oven and toaster!!

Can't have people over to watch da Packers without a Nesco full of Chili. Its a super crock pot. Everyone needs one. I've had many a turkey roasted in one as well.
Just curious, I have a pizza oven at home (this one actually: https://smile.amazon.com/Wisco\-421\-Pizza\-Oven\-Display/dp/B00DYU93EC/ ) Does a Pizzazz do a better job?
I bought the Panasonic NB-G100P (a precursor to the NBG110P?) in 2004 for $87.63. It still works great 9 years later and I can attest for its awesomeness.

I've been eyeing this one. Waring Pro TCO650 Digital Convection Oven. Haven't pulled the trigger yet but it has nice reviews
nah, crumb catch is on the bottom- there's a little hook thinggy on mine under the rack that holds a pan.
Mines the "easy access" oven. but I think its on other ones as well.
I got it years ago. Can't find the same model but it looks like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043E6PLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_svzLBbTCCVBG3
I bought a toaster oven and the ControlLeo Kit. But I haven't modded it yet. I just put the boards in and baked with convection... after about 4-5 minutes, they are ready.
Here's the oven I purchased on amazon:

Breville Die-Cast Smart Toaster
Alright so I'm home now and looking around my apartment. You need this specific Fabuloso in your life with a spray bottle from the dollar store. A toaster oven because you can stick bread in it with toppings! I could never live without a toast oven again...lol. DO you have all your utensils and plenty of dish towels, bath towels and oven mits. Do you have plenty of lamps (this apartment and my last apartment lacked lighting)
Something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quest-Mini-Oven-Litre-Black/dp/B00K22YJEY/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_200_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=BKH97AT2ZESXM8F3PMTF
Get one of these and put it outside to cook.

Go cheap. I really like my super cheap B&D toaster toaster oven. You'll have to experiment with times and temperatures but this oven will do the job for way less and with less bother than the LCD+Clock+Digital competition.

holy crap. that's quite a creation!
Most people buy cheap crap, then complain when it breaks. Start off buying high quality items and it won't break like that.
For example, instead of buying whatever $15 toaster Walmart sells, buy one like this
Also, hot dog toasters exist. What a time to be alive.
You need a convection oven. Fiddle with the placement of the racks and you can fit pizza, lasanga, bread pans and even an entire roast in there.
This model is even cheap, so you can make your boss feel bad by asking for the money to buy a new one.
