I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!! My inlaws keep buying my kids huge toys, and I officially have no fucking space left. You know, in my 3 bedroom detached house that we’ve only lived in under 3 years. DH said that he had spoken to them about it, then for DS’s birthday in September they walked in with this fucker. Bonus was that they put it together before bringing it over so it’s not like we could return it, and I don’t feel like being the asshole in my kids’ eyes by taking it away when they’re so obviously stoked. Now here’s the conundrum this Christmas: when I was a child, my dad built me a Barbie house and it’s been in his basement for the last 25 years until I had kids of my own to pass it on to. Last week we moved it and I’m working on painting it and changing the carpets. Now, I’m not even sure where we’re gonna put it since IL’s gifts are taking up all the space, but if I have to I’ll be getting rid of a few. I also made and Amazon wish list with Calico Critters sets to fill up the house (DD is only 4 and I think she’ll enjoy those more than Barbie). I plan on sending a link to my mom, and I told DH that my ideal scenario would be for his parents to buy directly from the list. He said that he felt like that would take the “fun” out of it for them. Smoke practically came out of my ears. First, their “fun” has so far meant that I haven’t been given the courtesy of choosing whether I want to house massive toys or not. Second, following the list would mean that DD has a completely furnished dollhouse by the end of Christmas, with no doubles or extras or empty rooms. That would be pretty awesome for her. Third, DH only told them “calico Critters stuff”, no other details. Knowing them, they’ll buy something like this instead of something like this. I’ll get to be the jerk that takes away the cutesy dollhouse because we don’t need a second one (btw, my dollhouse is massive and the shit. All my friends were crazy jealous lol). Fourth and lastly, I feel like not listening to us when DH said to tone it down deserves consequences, namely being told exactly what to buy even if it’s not as fun. I could give a fuck about their fun, when I have to manoeuvre around a trashed train table every single day because my kids are too young to play gently with a toy that has about a hundred detachable parts.
Solidarity.
So I was inspired and hit up TRu myself. I picke dup one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036V0JYC
but it looks like i'm losing money on the deal at 12.99, how did you list it to make a potential profit? I grabbed a couple of the other bbq set and that seems to be a money maker. but was scare doff by the price of the t-ball set.
BTW, I think this item: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Grow-Rollin-Giraffe/dp/B008MTYTHQ might be a money maker as well, it's a #1 seller
I also am baffled that amazon doesn't have a listing for the little tikes bubble mower: http://www.rakuten.com/prod/little-tikes-bubble-mower/263418423.html?listingId=337101118&scid=pla_google_Toys%22R%22Us&Babies%22R%22Us&adid=18184&gclid=CP7UqLXO0r0CFUtk7AodE20ALA
I wish I were comfortable enough to create a new listing, there's probably profit to be made there as well.
Thanks again for the heads up!
My favorite gift for first birthdays is usually a ride-on. There's a whole bunch to choose from, and your lower price will keep a lid on the noisy obnoxious ones. The kids do love when they make noise, but if you get one that does, go for ones that make a limited sound when a button is pushed, not ones that "turn on" and go on & on, or even go off at random times.
If they have wood floors, though, it might be good to go with one which has rubber wheels. At least go with one which has flat plastic wheels, and not any kind of shape on the wheels. The rubber wheeled ones may be out of your price range, though.
The castor type wheel ones are good too, like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Radio-Flyer-Scoot-Zoom-Red/dp/B004DZOQIK/ref=sr_1_56?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1313050918&sr=1-56
My daughter loves this one, though its just over your price range:
http://www.amazon.com/Pewi-Ybike-Ride-Walking-Buddy/dp/B004M0PSKG/ref=pd_sbs_t_5
otherwise, trucks are always awesome
Honestly, the thing my daughter uses the most, and loves the most, is her Mega Bloks. They're like... perfect for her, large enough to not be a problem, and they keep her busy for a long time, plus she is getting good with her hand from those. At just over a year old she can build the towers with them. They have some of the most adorable sets, and most are prime. So you could go with a large set, or they have the little things, like a carriage with horse and fairy or a Pegasus and fairy.
This is right there at the top, but we have this for my daughter, and it is awesome as well, because she can use it a lot. But it is getting cold, so maybe not practical.
Absolutely, I did a ton of research on this as there is a lot of cheaper or same cost but not as well made cars. After some research I ended up here.
YouTube Video
After some doing some more research, I found out that this company was just a reseller of the actual company who makes it. After finding the company who actually makes it I was able to contact them and found out they have them on Amazon. Here is the link
You can purchase from BCP directly but I ordered from Amazon for the prime shipping. It still ends up being fulfilled by BCP directly but I like having the reassurance of Amazon also.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
Right!? We got it for a friends kid. They have three models, we got the green race car last year for some other kid. My GF is determined to win some "best Aunt" award or something.
I am racking my brain trying to think of what ry really loved at that age. Not sure on your price point but ry had [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VJKT15K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9yF-Bb5QRETAN) that he loved and was good for indoors in winter at that age :)
Also- bath crayons, bath toys!
My son has this walker which I like cuz it's not electronic but I got it at a yard sale for like $5. But honestly my son is more content to just push around and play with a cardboard diaper box or an upside laundry hamper.
Edit: also my son has some obnoxious electronic toys that he likes playing with even when I turn them off/take the batteries out. He just like pressing buttons even if they don't make noise when he presses them.
They actually make pedal-less bikes now! But it seems like you were ahead of the curve!
It's really cool that you taught your brother how to ride.
I'm was just waking by the bikes, not looking to teach, but I appreciate the luck anyhow (:
Our 14 month old son is taking a few steps, but still prefers to plop down and crawl because I'm guessing he just likes that it's just quicker for him. He continues to explore walking and getting better. For now he loves walking Little Tikes push walker all over our house and at the park.
I have a few ideas.
This swing secures the baby, so it's pretty safe, and I'm sure you could find a way to mount it inside if necessary: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Snug-Secure-Swing-Pink/dp/B001P5GRF6/ref=pd_sbs_t_3
Now, this is a personal favorite, when I was a child I LOVED disney princesses. I still do really, and if I got one of these as a kid I think I would just have exploded out of happiness: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Little-People-Disney-Princess/dp/B007J3FBKU/ref=sr_1_190?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1383115192&sr=1-190
My brother as a toddler HATED to be on a stroller, now, if you turned that stroller into a car, he would be so happy. so maybe if she's a bit dificult to keep on a stroller this could help: http://www.amazon.com/Step2-824200-Pink-Whisper-Buggy/dp/B008CO812U/ref=pd_sim_t_1
and this one is kind of a classic: http://www.amazon.com/Tek-Nek-Rock-Ride-Pink/dp/B00186DECG/ref=sr_1_291?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1383115631&sr=1-291
I had serioulsy considered that. I almost got one for her when she first started sitting to encourage, but went with this since it doubled as a walking toy. She still loves it. I LOVE things that grow with the kids. Cuts down on toys a bit. Edit: It also served as a cat toy with all the spinning parts.
Honestly I suggest checking out garage sales and thrift stores this weekend. That's where most of our kid's things have come from.

This all started off with my wife saying that Lightning was a little too slow! I said no problem I got this.
So my first step was to investigate what was the best way to go about this. After a while of researching the best way, I realized that they are more or less oversized versions of my rc cars that I race. With that in mind I was able to do everything.
I started the conversion using just one of the motors. This was so I could make sure I was mentally doing it all right. While the transmission was close to the stock one, it was not a exact fit. I ended up having to trim away some extra plastic and make the opening larger.
Now that the motor and trans is in for the right side I had to start looking at the wiring. The wiring that is in there stock was 18 gauge and while technically will handle the 18v I wanted to be sure we did not melt any wires. I swapped it out one by one using the same 12 gauge wire I use in my RC cars.
The first wires I did was the battery connector. I found the connectors online and used a epoxy putty to make the socket. This ensures the connection is good to the battery.
I then proceeded to replace wires in the harness one by one till they were all replaced. Once it was all setup stock it was time to add in the speed controller. This allows me to turn the speed down (by adjusting the voltage.) I put it online between the battery and the rest of the wire harness. I did it here because it was not able to handle flipping the polarity for reverse. (Popped a fuse finding that out lol. )
Once this was wired up I was able to add in the “fuel gauge”. I put it in what is the “gas cap” on the car. This is a simple dc voltage meter. Nothing fancy here.
Once all that was wired. I needed to make a “Y” splitter for the motors. I know this puts them in parallel all the time and down the road I might change that but for now just forward and reverse was good enough.
Since this car was a single drive motor previously I had to completely make a new hole for this second motor. This was a bit simpler then making room for the first motor.
One thing to note on wiring the second motor. You will want to do it in reverse of the first one as it is spinning the opposite direction of the first motor.
After this was done they only thing I did was relocate the dial for the speed controller from on the speed controller to on the back of the car under the rear fender. This was so I can adjust it without having to remove the seat to adjust it. One thing I may still add is a master power switch. I know this car has one but due to positioning I had to put the battery meter before that switch.
One thing that is still a work in progress is I bought a mltoys brake reduction system. The problem is I was not sure which wire it should go to. This is not the typical plunger switch gas peddle. It is a 6 poll rocker switch. Once they get back to me with that I will get it installed so it is not as jerky on starts and stops.
That's very sweet of you to want to do, but are you sure that his parents have the space in their home for something like that? I'd also say it's unlikely you will find a model plane that size for under $100. Maybe you could get him a ride on plane like this instead.
puzzle
push toy
walkeR and ride on -this was a favorite of my sons for a long, long time, and I've often said it was the best $ I ever spent, that kids loved it so much.
pull toy
If you want to up it, get wooden versions of them. They are learning to walk at that age, so toys that focus on walking are a really big hit.
Things we have not had enough of over the years: Pacifiers (20.. not enough, when you lose enough to get down to 6), Bibs, Socks.
Other things we found extremely valuable: A rock and play, The woombie which is like an auto swaddle that stays swaddled, and This cool thing was awesome at teaching her to walk, and she still rides on it sometimes!
Things we had too many of: Newborn sized stuff, onesies especially. Towels. Blankets (minus swaddle blankets), hats.
I’m pretty sure it’s a Power Wheels, Disney Frozen version. But it’s kinda hard to tell from this far away. Super cool...my girls dig it.

I'm not sure how old your son is but I saw one of those Power Wheels Wild Things on Amazon recently and thought they looked like sweet kid wheelchairs.

LOL, i mean something like these (I know there is a big difference between the two):

My five year old got these things for his first birthday, and we pulled them out again for #2’s first birthday and he loves them just as much. :)
Push and Ride Racer
Crawl Around Car
My twins were gifted this car on their first bday and loved it then and still play with it at 2!
Its a kids roller coaster similar to this , except it looks like he took the last section of it off before propping it up on the chair. It didnt really break, but came apart at the point where 2 the top and middle section come together. Its made of hollow plastic like the playschool slides and outdoor playsets.
I just wanted to show you this.
But my submission is:
I don't want anything if I win, I just want a picture of the little girl using what you pick :3

We bought this for our daughters first birthday and she loved it immediately.
For some reason mine can't get enough of running back and forth across the sofa or bed saying "Goomp goomp goomp." We also have a little scooter we got at a yard sale that he uses indoors, various balls and toy cars. Wooden puzzles like this occupy him for a good while. Also rummaging through the kitchen cabinets and drawers that have relatively benign objects in them (pots and pans, Tupperware). Chasing him from room to room or an early type of "hide and seek" (really just stepping around a corner and peeking out at him until he runs over). Watching cars drive by. He also loves diving off the changing table onto the sofa headfirst, but I don't really recommend that...
Literally anyone of any age could enjoy the following toy.

That does not change it's intended audience.
It's actually the truck! I wish I had this over the coupe.
This Fisher Price musical car has no off switch, and multiple ways of making the worst music possible. I can still hear it years after mine mysteriously disappeared.....
From the description:
"So much music! So much fun! Join the parade with the Fisher price Little People music parade ride-on! Plays 5 different marching tunes! Use the keyboard to compose your own tune!
Fun instrument sounds include trumpet, drums, saxophone, tuba and 5 piano keys."

My daughter turned 1 in December. These are the hits of her birthday gifts:

I can't find the exact one, but it's a Little Tykes one that's similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005850H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iODKBbMKRQ5FP).
Could you get him a push toy? That way he can practice on his own?
