The bandalettes that two people mentioned don't work well for me, but I have tried undersummers and slips and all kinds of things to prevent chub rub and I like these Vasarette Smooth Slip Shorts the best! And best of all, they're really cheap and so comfortable! They don't ride up and they are really light and thin so they don't feel tight or make you hot like Spanx do. Dresses definitely are the coolest option, but I also like the Ponte stretch pants from torrid, they don't make me too hot and they are pretty comfortable.

u/pamp_lacroix · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I have pretty prominent hip dips, particularly when I'm a little less fit (gaining muscle in my glutes and losing fat around my belly seems to decrease their appearance a bit for me) . I bought the Rago High Waisted Leg Shaper Firm Shaping briefs to wear while I was dress shopping and they definitely beat my dips into submission. Not 100% perfect, but enough that I was happy with how I looked in slim-cut dresses. The boning around the hips really seemed to help.

Ultimately I bought a dress that I loved even without shapewear but I definitely appreciate having these around for special occasions now.

u/ifilovedyou · 12 pointsr/weddingplanning

i love your dress! it looks SO expensive. idk if it is or not, but the craftsmanship is incredible!

> On eBay no less

you are blessed.

> to be brought in a little around the waist

go to literally the best tailor you can find. don't skimp, because this dress is going to be a bitch to alter. for the record, i don't think it NEEDS pulling in at the waist, so if you're in a pinch know that you can do without, at least from this angle.

> My midsection is my trouble zone

liar!

> what kind of undergarments should I wear

whatever you wear, wear a nude color, ideally as close to your skin color as you can.

I think a bustier or a strapless or even regular nude-colored bra would work. i can't see the front very well, but i don't think the push-up-ness of a bustier will be particularly helpful with this dress so ultimately i would go with whatever shows less underneath the fabric.

For bottoms I love nude, no-line thongs because there's no way in HELL anyone will ever see a line, but if your midsection concerns you the production company i used to work for gave these to the actresses to wear under their bodycon or sheer dresses. i don't know if Spanx makes the Love Your Assets line anymore, but if they don't then I think their Haute Contour line should be equivalent.

If you're going to go the spanx route then...well, this is crude, but make sure it has a pee hole so you don't have to remove them every time you have to go. Finally, practice wearing them: some people find them constricting and that may not be how you want to feel on your wedding day, so you do you.

congrats!!

Slip shorts!! They're definitely how I get through the summer in dresses (which I'd much rather wear than shorts). I get pretty atrocious chafing without slip shorts and they also make me less afraid of flashing anyone. A lot of people seem to like the Jockey ones (I think they're called Skimmies?), but those didn't work for me. I have a couple pairs of these from Amazon, and they're great. I feel like they're light/breathable enough to be comfortable. I've also heard of people wearing bike shorts under dresses.

u/Mswondercat · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

I got this from amazon in white. It does amazing things and is surprisingly cute and comfortable. Other than that nothing. It has a slit for you to pee through... so no undies. And I had cups sewn into my dress. I'm planning on bringing underwear and a bra so I can change into my after party romper at the end of the night.

u/_foxy_mulder · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

Sure thing! The three I've tried on are:

Number one, legit spanx. These I already owned and they work really well usually, the only thing is that since my dress is so thin you can 100% easily see the line where they stop on my thighs.

Number two. I could not tell any difference in my body with these. Like I don't think they "sucked in" anything at all.

Number three. These were... odd. I thought the "lifting" would be good, but it just cut into my butt (maybe my butt is too big?) and the lines around the butt were incredibly noticeable through the dress. The length was good though. I'm realizing with my dress i'm going to have to go to at least knee length. So now to try and find something that has enough control and are also long enough.

I feel like I'm goldilocks-ing it right now with shape-wear haha.

I've been wearing basic cotton bike shorts under dresses for years, but they don't last very long and sometimes the waistbands cut in strangely or the thighs roll up. So I did a bit of research for undershorts that aren't shapewear, and found recommendations for Jockey Skimmies. They get good reviews, but they're kind of expensive (especially given I'm ordering from Australia) so I chose these Vassarette ones instead.

Of course I don't want to be intentionally flashing people my long undies, but it makes me so much less self conscious wearing dresses/skirts! I have a back injury and sometimes use a walking stick, so things like getting out of the car can be a bit of a production at times, the last thing I need is to be fussing to keep my skirt hem at the right angle, on top of everything else. :)

I also wear capri length leggings under maxi dresses when it's a bit colder. It's the perfect way to wear a pretty maxi in spring/autumn and keep a little warm without having to wear full length tights.

u/laceandhoney · 7 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Because I'm clumsy, I'd be afraid I'd somehow sit on a weight and bruise myself or that my dress would make an awkward thwacking sound when it hit into anything.

I wear these under my dresses and LOVE them. LOVE. They're a trifecta of awesomeness: 1) they prevent any panty-flashing, 2) they prevent thigh chafing, 3) they slim and smooth overall.

I imagine boxers would add bulk under a dress, so I would definitely recommend the type I wear if you wear anything snug or form-fitting.

I just bought the Vassarette Women's Comfortably Smooth Slip Short Panty in black and light tan in 3X and they fit amazing! They don’t roll up my legs or down on my tummy and are still short enough to wear with above-the-knee dresses. I’d recommend them for sure. PLUS; they’re only $8.00-$8.50 a pair.

I have a mermaid style dress and these are amazing! Maidenform shaper - they are the 4th I tried, I couldn’t find ones I liked, because my main issue was my belly button showing through, which these eliminated haha. I tested them out at my bachelorette party and you can sit and dance in them.

u/scotch_please · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I'm sorry, I don't. I'm not experienced with body shapewear but sometimes Amazon does have really thorough reviews. This one has a positive postpartum review. If the Rago one you tried had the closure in the front is it possible a rear-closure would work? This postpartum-specific shop also has some zip up shapers if that sounds like it could be an option.

Sorry I can't help more! I hope someone else can chime in with better advice.

u/WuzFuz12 · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

Can't go wrong with this shit. It will control the belly and your thighs and give your body smooth lines if you're wearing a form fitting dress. Nothin but smooth sexy curves! And since it goes all the way up to your bra you won't get a weird high muffin top like some of the only bottom ones will do.

u/Storyteller13 · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I bought these ankle pants from Old Navy in Potent Purple and [this] (http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=4777490120002&cid=1046046&locale=en_US) pencil skirt. So far I love them both! I'm actually wearing the skirt right now with my new shapewear from Rago.

Ankle pants: Super comfortable. I paired them with floral heels and a striped shirt.
The skirt: Also great. This is my first pencil skirt in ages and I really like how the silhouette looks. However, the jersey does show everything (cue the shapewear.)
The thigh slimmer: Whoa. It really works (no bumps or lines!) but it's going to take some getting used to.

u/ToughWelcome · 44 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

My thighs have always rubbed together - I have narrow hips. So I've tried a few things:

  • Bandelettes get good reviews, but they don't stay up on certain leg shapes. Sizing is kinda weird. I was really disappointed that they didn't work for me, but I still recommend trying them if you haven't already.
  • Generic stretchy shapewear like this works very well, but it's hell to wear in summer. So sweaty. They're also transparent (why?).
  • Pettipants are less hot, but for me they're pointless since they are either loose enough to ride up and allow my thighs to chafe or short enough that the part of my thighs that touch isn't even covered.
  • Creams, deodorants, overpriced chafing shit... never did anything for me.

Tbh I solved most of my thigh problems by jumping on the wide leg pants train years ago. I don't bother with skirts/dresses unless it's cold enough to comfortably wear tights underneath them.

u/m1ssemely · 28 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I’m not who you asked either but I HIGHLY recommend these. I own about 10 pairs now 😂

u/thecarolinelinnae · 6 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

You're most welcome!

I've been happy with these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3SLMGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_QlX2CbMQJHE1W

u/BrutalHonestyBuffalo · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

Giiiiiirrrrl get you some slip shorts.

Available basically anywhere. Something like these (disclaimer, I don't own these exact ones - just as an example. I got mine in a target)

They are basically slightly thicker pantyhose that lay nice and flat against you without being bulky and resolve all chaffing issues.

GAME CHANGERS

Diaper rash cream. Butt Paste brand. Great stuff. And put some powder on top of it. Also those little lightweight spandex type shorts. Like these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KDGK7I6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/raychelknows · 1 pointr/xxketo

Good on ya!

Also, buy some Skimmies for under your skirts & dresses. Your thighs will thank you.

Jockey Skimmies

u/mlranda · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

I have a bunch of these shorts that are awesome for under dresses, they are not tight like spandex. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019HMHG8U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These things CHANGED MY LIFE. seriously. I live in a hot and humid climate and I’ve tried everything. Nothing. Works as well as these. They’re super stretchy and not shape wear at all.

under shorts

u/Geobead · 4 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I wear shorts like these under my dresses.

u/pterodactyl1111 · 7 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

These Jockey slip shorts are my all-time fave. Much more lightweight than bike shorts. They come in shorter lengths (and rises) too, but I find the short ones ride up on me.

u/HeathEarnshaw · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Seconded. I have five pair in various colors and lengths kicking around my drawer. You can get them at amazon.

u/sharkbaitooaha · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

I got these and i see they're now ON SALE (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053XF8VA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I haven't tried them on with my dress yet but I can't wait to.

u/itsSolara · 1 pointr/weddingplanning

Get a shaper that has boning in it, if the straps aren't working. There was a shaper someone recommended here from the brand Rago that I tried on (bought on Amazon) and it really did stay up. I think it was this one and it was low enough in the back for my low back gown, but I am also pretty tall: https://www.amazon.com/Rago-Womens-Waist-Shaper-Medium/dp/B000BIRH5C/

Nordstrom also had one with boning from another brand that was a smoother fabric. Do not get Spanx. Somehow the Spanx all made me look worse once I put them on!
