And a few "bonus deals" for those who read this far down in the comments! (Tomorrow I'll start putting everything in the original post.)

21) Shirakiku Rice - $12 for (5) lbs
5 lb rice for $2.30/lb. Including since it's a lower-priced item that is shippable, even though it's not as good a deal as you'd get in stores.

22) Wheat Thins Salsa Flavor - $11 for (6) boxes
Wheat Thins for $1.80/box for 9 oz. size is pretty good! Cheaper than Wal-Mart.

23) Ravarino bowtie pasta - $11 for (12) lbs
12 lbs of bowtie pasta for under $1/lb is grocery-sale-price good!

24) ~~Organic coconut oil - $10 for (1.5) lbs
I get coconut oil (organic) on sale for $6/lb, so $10 for 1.5 lbs is spot-on as a great deal.~~ Deal is over, now up to $16.

25) Sandwich-sliced kosher pickles - $12 for (12) lbs
$1/lb for kosher sandwich flats (pickles), awesome - store some up; also great for chopping into potato salad, pasta salad, etc.

26) Chipotle-flavored pinto beans - $13 for (12) cans
Just over $1/can for chipotle-seasoned pinto beans, probably one of the best prices on the site for canned beans.

27) Tesori Capellini Pasta - $16 for (20) lbs!
Hard to beat at 75c/lb! Usually there are around 9 servings per pound, so this will last a very long time.

28) ~~Goya Sweet Peas - $16 for (24) cans
This deal may be gone before I type it, because that works out to about 66c/can. Go quickly, only 2 left at this price!~~ Called it! The price is now $44 for the 24 cans. Congratulations if you got in on it before they wised up!

29) Organic White Bean Chili - $18 for (12) cans
A little something for our legume-based chili lovers - low sodium, too!

30) Quaker Quick Oats - $14 for (5) lbs.
It's difficult to find a good deal on oats, at the site. This is one of the better ones I saw, at around $2.80/lb.

31) Quaker Instant Oats - Peaches and Cream - $10 for (40) pouches
Quaker peaches & cream instant oatmeal - 40 pouches for $10 (25c/pouch). Incredible! Most of their pouches are going for around $1 each. For the 25c/pouch price, if you don't like Peaches and Cream, you can also get Raisin Spice flavor:
Quaker Instant Oats - Raisin Spice - $10 for (40) pouches

32) Chef Boyardee Whole Grain ABCs-123s - $18 for (12) cans
At $1.50/can for more nutrition than the original style, these are a nice buy.

These are all things that I would eat crave even if I wasn't trying to lose weight, and had never even heard of the idea of losing weight:

Seaweed snacks, I've been in love with them since childhood. Also these seaweed covered rice crackers, which are roughly the same calories as our beloved Veggie Straws (though I find I eat these a bit quicker).

34 Degrees Natural Crisps (airy light crackers). I see crackers just as a vehicle to get other food into my mouth, so I love the super light, almost communion-wafer-esque texture of these.

Egg Tofu. These jiggly tubes look kind of like regular silken tofu (which I also love but I get is not for every one). But they have egg mixed in, which means if you slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds and pan-fry gently, you get this golden slightly-crispy egg exterior with the soft silky tofu inside. Drizzle some soy sauce over for yumminess. 100 cals per half tube (which is a good sized serving if you're doing it as a side).

Trader Joe's chocolate chip meringue cookies (really most meringue cookies, I guess). Bash 'em up and mix with greek yogurt + thawed frozen berries for a light version of Eton Mess!

I love mushrooms sliced thin, sprinkled with salt, and fried on a dry nonstick pan, or tossed with a tiny bit of oil and roasted until golden. I guess it's low cal, but who even cares, I'm putting that stuff on everything. Ditto slow-roasted garlic and cherry tomatoes. Oh and those super thin Enoki mushrooms are so fun, I love the snappy/bouncy texture.

Shrimp cocktail, raw oysters, steamed clams, crawfish, imitation crab... I dunno, I don't even know if people think of these as "good for being diet food". I just see it as deliciousness.

Frozen grapes, especially when it's hot out. Like a bite of sorbet in each one.

Look for Vegan pastas. they are all over now. Rice, and quinoa, are vegan friendly as long as you cook them in vegetable broth. a good one is Kitchen Basics brand. Great for making anything that calls for chicken broth. Like rice and quinoa...

Hummus is a good snack for the road, along with grapes, bananas, Pita bread sandwiches,

Good sandwich fillers are Hummus or vegan guacamole or mashed avocado are great in place of mayos.

This is a Great sandwich mix just get a small jar of vegan mayo. (you might want to ask one of them if they have a favorites mayo, snacks etc.)

Plus one on the kakinotane (or as this Wikipedia article spells it, kaki no tane: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaki_no_tane). Here's, basically, "the" standard kaki no tane on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Kameda-Kakinotane-6PK-Original-5-3-Ounce/dp/B007Y26JRU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415331505&sr=8-1&keywords=kaki+no+tane

OP - if you're mainly catering to Japanese businessmen and not Asian businessmen in general, you may want to avoid the "Asian" snack basket and focus on only actual, Japanese snacks (as in, from Japan, not made in the U.S. versions of Japanese snacks - although that would still be better than general "Asian"). Imagine if you were a businessman and went to a hotel in Japan and they gave you a snack basket of general "Western" snacks (including random German peanuts, Portuguese chocolate, and French cereal). While some people might enjoy a variety of "international snacks," a stodgy businessman might (and I'm emphasizing might because, of course, everyone's different) not appreciate a bunch of unfamiliar snacks, or even be offended by the idea that, being Asian, of course he would like snacks from Asia, regardless of country of origin. Also, whether true or not, China doesn't have a particularly good image for food safety in Japan, so if any of those snacks are Chinese in origin, or even from most other Asian countries, it might not seem very "safe." Again, whether the above concerns are warranted or not, I believe they are ideas that might be shared by many Japanese businessmen, so if you want to play it safe, I'd (again) recommend going with only Japanese snacks. You might also want to add some local snacks - that would be good hospitality in Japanese eyes - maybe a 50/50 mix Japanese and local? Then they can experience the local delights and have familiar things to fall back on.

Edit: Couple other ideas - How about making a Japanese guide to nearby restaurants and stores, with descriptions and maps, etc. I don't know about your clientele, but a lot of them might not speak much English, and doing a good portion of the legwork for them with a Japanese language guide would probably help remove a lot of stress for them. You might even want to include a short phrase guide for doing things like ordering food, etc. - most will probably already have a book for something like that, but it might be helpful, and the effort should be appreciated. Also, getting back to the snacks, depending on how much you want to invest in this, you might want to go with slightly more upscale snacks, including the Japanese ones. Just a thought.

  1. this bed just looks so damn comfortable. Like you could just fall into it.

  2. graham crackers and milk are so tasty and great for a midnight snack!

  3. these adorable sleeping cat pajamas even have matching slippers.

  4. I personally prefer the dark, but this looks like a beautiful night light to fall asleep to, especially for anyone who likes the ocean.

  5. if the baby shusher doesn't work, play the baby some 80's music

“She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread.”

I'm such a snacker, or I guess a grazer is sort of the best term for me. Either way, if given the opportunity I'll eat a little of this, a little of that, and pretty soon calories are blown. My solution was to get rid of all snacky foods and only stock foods that are part of a meal, and then later when I'd mostly broken myself of the grazing urges, I only kept snack foods that I wouldn't feel guilty about indulging in. Things like Peter Rabbit Organics fruit/veggie puree, Dole Banana Dippers, Special K Cracker Chips. Anything in single serve packages, really. Or get a food scale (seriously one of the best investment purchases I've made in my weight loss journey. I use it ALL THE TIME to keep portion sizes under control) and make your own single serve packages of chips, popcorn, whatever!

Get a fitbit! Even though I work at a desk job, I thought I was relatively active. When I read that the recommended daily step count was 10,000, I thought "Sure, no problem." The first day I wore it, I went about my business as usual and at the end of the day I'd barely taken 3,000 steps. Now I have a daily goal and I do whatever I have to to reach it. It may look silly, but I get up and walk around my office every chance I get, even if its just to the water cooler and back. While I'm filling up my cup, I'm walking in place. Getting stuff out of the file room, walking in place. Every couple of hours, I'll take a 5-10 min walk around the parking lot. I'm sure I look ridiculous but I'm walking in place while brushing my teeth, cooking dinner, folding laundry, watching TV, whatever! And it really adds up. You're not really going to work up a sweat, or get your heart rate up to maximum burning speed, but you're still moving and that is better than nothing. By the end of the day I've usually bought myself about 500 extra calories and that's a nice little cushion and you have the satisfaction of meeting a goal, no matter how small it may be.

As shitty as your doctor is (glad you're peacing the fuck out) I am dying that you're gonna show up like "joke's on you!"

I relate hard. I'm Jewish, and my wife is part-Italian (grew up with her Italian mom), so the food thing is huge. We've been on a low FODMAP diet since April, and I've lost 27lbs (also due to fixing health issues) -- part of this has also included what basically amounts to a diabetic diet (keeping carbs under 50g, as low sugar as I can manage, on top of the low FODMAP restrictions). It doesn't have to be boring! Pack lunch for yourself if you're not already, it makes sticking to your diet a lot easier.

Snacks: a metric fuck ton of fruits and veggies, every day -- my favorites are berries (they have a lower glycemic index), kiwis, baby carrots and grape tomatoes. Pair with some cheese (because you have PCOS I will say -- don't do a lot of dairy, it'll create mucus in the body and make shit like ovulation harder) and almond crackers.

Lunch/dinner, with a special eye to Italian style dishes (these are all gonna be low FODMAP, so you can change anything that's GF/no garlic if you'd like): Chicken cacciatore, Korean beef (pair it with zoodles!), skillet lasagne (I do with ground chicken, and ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese and it's amaaaaazing), "Asian" meatballs (again with zoodles -- make a big batch and freeze), chicken meatloaf (if you want to cut down on calories, skip the bacon on top -- it sounds a bit weird but it's SO good).

Breakfast: I do a lot of smoothies -- just frozen fruit, milk (I get Fairlife because it has extra protein), peanut butter POWDER (only 50 calories in powder form, as opposed to 200+ regularly), and collagen protein powder. The protein powder is important, because protein will keep you full longer -- I love this kind, because you absolutely cannot taste a thing, and it provides a ton of protein. During weekdays/rush, I do Chobani Less Sugar yogurt and berries.

Good luck! You show that doctor who's boss ;)

Unrelated mod note: we ask that folks not have "TTC #1" in their flair, because we do not allow the mention of living children -- so folks can't have "TTC #2", for example. This way, the field is level for everyone in the sub. Could you please remove it? Thanks!

Flavor wise they're whole grain crisps, very much like a large cracker, definitely good enough to eat on their own, and hell yes they are good with peanut butter. I got the nuts n more birthday cake peanut spread from Amazon and I eat so many of those now it's crazy

Edit: there's also ones that aren't high in fiber and protein that are 50 cals per 2 crackers (1g protein), not sure of the taste but I'm sure if they're anything like the others or better they're good.

Wasa Fiber Crispbread, 8.1 Ounce (Pack of 12) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EUJLGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_g8Pvzb44Y9XPK

These are the ones I eat, they're $2 a pack at the store by me

They're made to look and taste like ramen, but with a sweet glaze, and they're made from wheat. I bought mine in a bulk package from a local Korean grocer, but they're available in commercial packages from lots of online retailers (Amazon, Walmart, etc.)

They're super tasty, and definitely worth a try.

> Does anyone else have low-calorie salty snacks that they enjoy?

I read something once a long time ago that said that when you eat something, the bites that have the biggest impact are the first one and the last one. (The biggest psychological/tastebud impact, not metabolic impact.)

So, the suggestion was to have a small amount of something that you really like but shouldn't have much of, interspersed with something that is similar in texture and functionality but "better for you".

For instance, if you love corn chips and salsa: have one or two chips dipped in salsa, and then have a bunch of pieces of crunchy lettuce dipped in salse (like the thick part of a romaine leaf, that can stand up to holding the salsa, not something that will wilt and collapse). Finish it off with one or two more real chips at the end.

I really like Doctor Kracker fire-roasted crisps, but coudl easily eat too many at one sitting. So for a work snack, I will bring a couple of them plus a GG Scandinavian crispbread broken up into about 8 cracker-sized pieces. I'll start off with one of the spicy Doctor Krackers, then eat the crispbread chunks (basically bran held together with water); the spicyness of the first cracker carries into the bland bran stuff. Last bite is one more spicy Dr Kracker.

Schar (German) and Glutino (Canadian) make superb gluten free products. Quite pricey, but so worth it.
Have you tried Schar gluten free table crackers? I love them.

The best solution I've found for this is to find replacements that I can either safely binge on or that don't trigger the cravings. It sounds bad, but the worst thing I've found for me so far is the new birthday cake fiber one brownies. I'm actually blown away by how addictive they felt to me! I ate three the first day I had them.

For chips in particular, I keep them out of the house, but I've had success keeping Baked Cheetos, Ritz Crips & Thins, and Back to Nature Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Wheat Crackers. I like these things because they are all not quite as good as chips but still very good, so they satiate the craving, but I don't struggle to portion them out correctly as long as I portion them into a bowl/plate and take the bowl/plate in another room (away from the box) to eat them.

Depends on the cheese, but for many, I like these the best: Wheat Toasteds. They're pretty flavorful for a cracker, so it really does depend on the cheese.

Enjoy life has a pretty good one. http://www.amazon.com/Kinnikinnick-Smoreable-Graham-Cracker-Pack/dp/B005XUAZAC/ref=sr_1_5 and http://www.amazon.com/Schar-Cookie-Honeygrams-5-6-ounce-Boxes/dp/B009XXRUQ2/ref=sr_1_8? are decent too. I live in SoCal and usually to go Whole Foods and they carry a couple types that are good. It does help when you add chocolate and marshmallow too!

Matzoball soup. Make half a package (about 5 large balls. I get this at my local Food Lion) in some chicken broth (I love Better than Bullion roasted chicken base. Can't live without it), and it comes out to about 200cal for the entire pot. I can completely stuff my face and still have leftovers.

Not to mention matzoball soup is like the best tasting thing ever. Only caveat is it's full of salt.
