  1. I recommend this toaster from personal experience but unfortunately it's $60. :/ My mom has this toaster and swears by it, and it's only $40 though!

  2. As for stuff to hang... Ive got a lot of ideas because Ive been looking for me too!!! i love really interesting pieces like this and this. these are really cheap and popular around here (i think theyd be super adorable on the fridge!) I had chalkboard in my old office/kitchen and I loved it. This is kind of silly but Ive always wanted one, haha. You'll probably need a clock, too.

...sorry if i put too many. I love looking at this stuff. If thats cheating, feel free to only count the first haha

  3. Hard to pick an item without knowing price range! Haha

High School English (none of these are English specific)

This is room dependent as some schools have them, but one key thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet (apologies if I missed it) is a clock. Specifically get an atomic clock that has a highly visible seconds display. I just bought this one by Marathon refurbished. It makes a great deal of difference knowing whether there are 3 seconds or 30 seconds until the bell in my experience.

Another thing I highly recommend is this wireless trackball mouse. It makes a great presentation tool. You can do more with it than a clicker. You can just hold it on your leg if you need to use the mouse function while standing.

Also, get yourself some speakers that sound decent and have a) an easy way switch to headphones b) easily accessible volume control. Headphones are essential because you will undoubtedly be on your prep while the classroom next door decides to mutiny. The external volume control is much easier than having to click around on the computer (you could get a keyboard that has those features). These speakers are reasonably priced and have served me well. Bonus points if you can find an easy way to include bluetooth in the set up (I'm trying to figure out how to do that as my new school blocks spotify). If anyone has any ideas for me, I would appreciate it.

I'm a terribly unorganized person, but for me color coded folders helped me keep things a little more organized. Find durable plastic folders and assign a color for each different period. When you collect an assignment, it goes into the proper folder

This is the tricked out version of the toaster I currently own and love. It's on sale at Amazon for $54 which is out of your price range I know, but it's a good deal: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003TSTOXO/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1426513596&sr=8-2&keywords=KitchenAid+toaster&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

I think it's rather hard to find an ideal gift. I think the gift ideas divide into two groups: just something with math like

or

http://www.amazon.com/DCI-Powder-Mathematics-Blackboard-Diameter/dp/B001FVRUFQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454019324&sr=8-1&keywords=math+clock

the remainder of which would be related to his work. A prime example of this is a fountain pen like one has mentioned here. If you can't decide, a composite of the two groups would work as well. A personal favorite of mine:

Right on man! Enjoy the upcoming pleasure.

oh, BTW that thermometer stickied to the side of the tank gives you "ball park" readings. I'd suggest getting a indoor-outdoor thermometer like this...

http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-THT312-Outdoor-Thermometer/dp/B0006G2WYU

stick the probe in the water, and set the unit aside. Looks techy and it makes for better readings.

My husband's adoptive mom's oldest brother J (mid to late 60s) is developmentally impaired (mentality at about 9 years old), but he lives on his own, has a job, bikes all around town when the weather is nice, and remembers me even though I suck with faces and can never remember who this nice man is (as I only see him once a year at most). Like I said he loves clocks. Daylight savings time is not a fun time for his family (adoptive mom & dad), they have to go over and change all the clocks ~ 40 or so. What I'd love to get him would be a nice new clock that can change time on it's own ~ one less thing for him to worry about and the one clock he can rely on when DLST happens. I think a clock like this, with all sorts of features would make J so very happy.

I'd say something for his bike, but he's very picky about that and won't even take things from adoptive MIL as she just can't get the right thing.

We have a clock from La Crosse Technology similar to this one and it sets to the atomic clock via radio signal. For an inexpensive clock, it's pretty nice. We've had it for years and whenever I check, it always matches time.is perfectly, to the second.

u/battraman · 2 pointsr/videos

I own one and love it. My friend's daughter (she's 3) thinks it's the cat's pajamas and loves to stare at it.

They are $50 on Amazon for the full sized ones.

I have this one. The LED thing is an optional display that doesn’t have to be on. Best part is it runs on a portable battery pack with USB outputs. We used in our family tent last summer and provided circulation and subtle white noise. Kids loved it.

u/Madplato · 28 pointsr/changemyview

Well, yes? There's 12 points, each of which is used twice in a day. The watch is a support for the system, not the other way around. The watch is the same in both places, despite the whole country running on 24 hour time. It just looks like this.

u/TrialAndAaron · 10 pointsr/DesignPorn

You don't have to stand close enough to see the links. The numbers are the visual marker! This isn't meant to give a perfect to the minute time. Just like those word clocks aren't meant to be. No one would say "Oh that would be better if it had every possible time on it" because that's not the point of it. This clock gives you a rough time frame and is more or less a piece of functional art. No one should be using this to give you the ability to tell time within 10 minutes.

u/Zippy0723 · 9 pointsr/changemyview

As /u/Madplato pointed out above, the "hour hand rotating once per day" issue can be solved by just making clocks like this

As for the changing the way we talk about time, to me that seems kind of outside the point of this discussion? I'm more arguing that 24 hour time is better, not that it's worth the effort for counties that use 12 hour time to actually undergo the change.

u/rhinahime · 1 pointr/Teachers

The middle school math teacher in my building has a great clock with all different kinds of math problems to solve for each number on the clock. Like this one - http://www.amazon.com/DCI-Powder-Mathematics-Blackboard-Diameter/dp/B001FVRUFQ

u/Actualacc · 6 pointsr/changemyview

I mean, there is a world of difference between looking at a physical object in the hands of a clock and a screen that is lit from the back. To tell the time of the analog clock you only need to get a general idea of where the arms are pointing. With a digital clock you have to be able to read the digits. If you do get a digital clock that needs to be visible from a far it will have to be big (expensive) and the brightness will have to be high (more energy use).

You are free to look up prices if you would like. 14 inch analog clock for ~$22 dollars. Most digital clocks are $15-20 and no where near that size. This $28 clock is 14 inches and is radio controlled to set itself. I doubt that they make digital clocks that big for less than $30. Consider that digital clocks also come with software and other features not necessary in many situations which raise the price of the clocks. Here is a digital clock with a 7 inch display. It is $300 (from the same people with the $30 analog clock).

Digital clocks have more moving parts and include a screen (which must be lit). I think there is no reason to believe that analog clocks would use anywhere near the same amount of energy as digital clocks.

You can verify this for yourself if you want. This small digital takes 2 double A batteries and this large 18" analog takes 1 double A and even includes a thermometer and hygrometer.

u/iambinksy · 6 pointsr/BuyItForLife

You won't find a jack of all trades thermometer, nor any other scientific equipment. One reason for this is because they are task specific. Therefore a room thermometer is great up to 140 (imperial scale) or so but useless in your freezer or oven, and will probably melt or pop.

I suggest you get a decent room thermometer, perhaps something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-THT312-Outdoor-Thermometer/sim/B0006G2WYU/2

For cooking, something from here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A1055398%2Cn%3A289809%2Ck%3ACooking+thermometer&keywords=Cooking+thermometer&ie=UTF8&qid=1375659101&rnid=1063498

For body, Omron and Braun Infrared thermometers are used in the medical field, in the UK anyway.
