🎓 Reddit experts on xbox 360 controllers
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where xbox 360 controllers are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
From parsing your post, I can see 4 topics:
I'm going to address each of these individually:
---------------
I'm not playing PC as much as PS4 and I don't know why
Two words: access and comfort.
You come home from work, you plop down on your couch, you pick up your controller, push a button, and bam: you're in-game. That's the console experience. On PC, you have to boot up the computer, install updates, run Steam, etc. etc. etc. The process is pretty simple, but it feels unfamiliar to people used to a console experience.
The other part is your PC gaming setup is probably at your desk, where you're used to doing work, maybe have an uncomfortable chair, don't typically bring drinks or snacks, etc. In your mind, the couch is the designated "social/relaxation" space, and it typically has all the comforts and amenities for a proper gaming setup, whereas your PC space probably does not have those amenities by default.
The solution is twofold:
Always remember, though, that gaming should never feel like a chore. If you're not having fun PC gaming, then don't PC game! I know a lot of people on Reddit are fanatical about PC gaming, but, truth be told, everyone's different and has different gaming needs. THAT'S OK. Just because I have a ton of fun with it doesn't mean you have to too!
---------------------
Players in R6S are very different on PC than on PS4
The difference lies in the difference between a controller and a mouse/keyboard. A mouse/keyboard has a much higher skill ceiling to use, because a mouse can aim with a much higher speed/precision than a thumbstick. That difference is inherent and won't go away.
Unfortunately, the only solution to this is to get used to the difference. Learn yourself how to master the art of mouse aim. It's going to be different, and you're going to start out a beginner (as with any skill). That's completely okay. I've written a helpful guide in another thread on what best to do to improve with mouse aim (including a bunch of setup stuff that has NOTHING to do with practice!).
Fortunately, this is only an issue with shooter games; all other games should play exactly as you expect them to, exactly as they play on console! Did you know you can even use your PS4 controller on your PC? Better yet, invest in a wired Xbox controller, and most games will support it with NO additional setup!
---------------------
I don't have any friends that PC game
That's ok. Everyone starts here, including me.
I have discovered three IRL friends that will PC game with me consistently. I'm fortunate enough have gone to college in a field with a bunch of nerds, so it was a natural association for me.
But if you don't have that, you can make online friends! Here's how:
I cannot stress this enough. You will NEVER make proper online gaming friends without one. Headsets with microphones have a massive price range; find one that you're comfortable investing in, but definitely GET ONE.
The best game for this, in my opinion, by far, is Overwatch. It's teamwork-focused, objective-based, and designed to be anywhere on the spectrum between fun/social to serious/competitive. It has rewards systems in place for good social behavior, and people LOVE to be on-comms, even in casual modes!
Other good games are anything teamwork-focused, like R6S, Counter-Strike, TF2, DotA, and others.
If you're willing to lose your soul, you can also dip a toe into MMOs like World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, or EVE Online, but that will net you by far the best results in terms of making friends. I cannot, however, recommend MMOs to everyone, especially someone new to PC gaming and who most likely plays casually.
Bad games for this are individual-focused games like CoD, Fortnite, and PUBG. Even in team modes, not a ton of teamwork is involved, so comms are usually pretty dead.
Get on comms. Every single game. Even when no one else is.
Be friendly, nice, outgoing, etc. Socialize as if you were at a party and wanted to make friends; the same social principles apply. Sure, talk about strategy and stuff, but be positive and social. People will be attracted to that.
A lot of games will have "team finders" to put together teams in a way that's more user-focused than matchmaking. Overwatch has its "find a group", Destiny has DestinyLFG, Counter-Strike has FaceIT, etc. People using these tools will be WAY more likely to be social than "randoms" in matchmaking.
If someone invites you to their Discord channel, ACCEPT! This can be a gateway to meeting lots of fun new people who want to play with you. Discord is probably the most powerful tool for making you friends; the difficulty is that you need an invite to join anyone's group, and people are sometimes exclusive about it.
------------------
I don't know if I have a good monitor or if I should upgrade or what
You say you have a 1080p 60Hz monitor. That is just fine for gaming, and 99% of gamers will be using exactly one of these. If you're comfortable with it, I see no reason at all to upgrade.
If you want to upgrade, though, check out Logical Increments' Monitor Guide. It has a TON of recommendations on what to buy.
Just so you know what to look for, here's a rough overview on monitors:
For gaming, I recommend getting a 144Hz monitor over getting a 4K (or 1440p) monitor. I personally have a 1080p 144Hz monitor, and I feel no need to upgrade.
-------------------
Hope this helps!
I'm glad more people know about this, I don't use Playstation controllers but the issue is the same with Xbox One controllers as well and a few 360 controllers. I don't play Rocket League either haha, I actually found about the issue when playing GTA V on PC, and I noticed that I could spin faster on a bike after switching from my Xbox One controller to my 360 controller. If anyone has any information on how to edit the settings for the Xbox One controller to make the range higher I'd really appreciate, because my only option is to use other controllers.
Anyways hopefully I can help you guys out a bit who are looking for a better controller, I've bought both of these 360 controllers and I've noticed the range of motion is a lot higher than the PS4/XB1 controllers. For some reason it seems like 3rd party controllers have a higher range of motion.
Xbox 360 Afterglow Controller
https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AX-1-Controller-Xbox-360-Blue/dp/B003ITY98O
Xbox 360 MadCatz Pro
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BQUV4S/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687602&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002MX6TEE&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0RN1H5M4W8PA2F5WZX42
The Afterglow Controller I have has a higher range than the Madcatz controller but the Madcatz controller is still pretty high. Also keep in mind I've had the Afterglow for about 5 years now, so I doubt they would have made any design changes to mess with the range but it's always possible.
One more thing, I don't really expect an answer from this but does anyone know anything about this controller? I've been wondering how the range is compared to the original Xbox One controller.

Asking $1250
The post:
Sold off my desktop last year because I needed a mobile workstation/gaming setup. I no longer need one. Truth be told, I never needed one, but considering I never move it...no reason to hold on to it.
Total cost of the entire package new (links included to amazon and NewEgg below): $2401 + Shipping charges from NewEgg - I use Amazon Prime, so if I order from there most of the time so I don't pay shipping, but this exact model isn't sold anywhere by NewEgg.
I figure cut the price in half, get a screaming laptop, and a bunch of fantastic peripherals. This is an AMAZING machine, top notch. Just time for me to part ways.
I am willing to accept trades for a desktop, but it must be in mint condition (as my equipment all is), and it must be comparably spec'd.
Laptop Specs: ($1499 new)
Additional Items in Package:
Monitor: AOC 29 inch Ultrawide Monitor ($300+ New)
This thing is amazingly huge. IPS Panel, great for graphic/photo work, tons of screen space.
Headset: Astro A50 Wireless 7.1 Surround Sound headset ($299 new)
Keyboard: Logitech G710+ w/cherry MX Brown switches ($130 New)
Mouse: Logitech G700 Wireless Mouse ($99 New)
Gaming Controller: Xbox 360 w/wireless dongle ($49 for controller new - 25 for dongle new)
Well it's more expensive than I bought it for but this controller can't be beat- it's a rare late-cycle 360 controller that was improved tremendously from the original 360 pad.
https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Limited-Chrome-Wireless-Controller/dp/B00IFHTMQI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1512085608&sr=8-3&keywords=xbox+360+chrome
You do need an Xbox 360 wireless adapter for your PC too so it could get pricey, but this controller works wonderfully for Cemu.
I've had good luck with the PDP Afterglow Wired Controller. It is also in the middle of your price range. Not sure what the "SmartTrack" tech is, but I love my controller. The LEDs are quite bright, but can be turned to one of three modes: constant on, on vibrate only, or off.
cheap =/= wireless
go with wired 360 controllers, I recommend Rock Candy as I can verify they work perfect with steam on 14.04 and 16.04 and are cheaper than official wired controllers.
they slot in perfectly to your budget as well, as long as you get the red and blue ones
Just buy this one.
JAMSWALL Xbox 360 Game Controller Game Controller Gamepad USB Wired Shoulders Buttons Improved Ergonomic Design Joypad Gamepad Controller for Microsoft Xbox & Slim 360 PC Windows 7 (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F1G5PR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KMTRBb9AZ2Q7P
Cheap, feels great, and obviously a great choice with this much feedback.
Well depending what you're looking for, they have these. http://www.evilcontrollers.com/products/xbox-360-controller-parts/evil-d-pad-face-plates.html Which convert it to a Ps style.
Or there are these. http://www.amazon.com/Leegoal-360-Controller-Custom-Mod-Xbox/dp/B007P6Y684 These are basically the same d-pad but different color scheme. These are the only two cost effective way I could come up with. But happy hunting!
I use a Rock Candy Controller that I got on sale at best buy for like $15, and it's working great.
FYI - This remote kind of sucks compared to the original 360 Media Remote. The old one had a dedicated Media Center button and actually had light-up buttons which really came in handy when in a dark room. My old remote is worn out since I use the 360 for all TV and movie watching, so I held out a bit because this new one looked like it might be good. Only good thing about it is that it is sleeker and the buttons are "clicky" with very short travel.
In short, I'd suggest trying to find the old remote at a Gamestop or something since you'll probably be able to get them cheap now. I haven't used any 3rd-party remotes so unfortunately I'm unable to compare in that regard.
haha glad i could help here are the black ones as well
My friend gave me his wireless madcatz wheel (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Racing-Wheel/dp/B003YBUSMW) when he upgraded to his fanatec.
Its no where near as nice as my DFGT but it does the job. Not having force feedback blows but you get used to it. I wouldn't pay the 150 they are asking on amazon but if you can find it used on CL for about 50 bucks its not too bad. Plus its miles better than the wireless speed wheel thingy.
If price is a concern (and these games can get very expensive), then you'll want look at a few options.
Beatles: Rock Band is $250 by itself. It only comes with one guitar, though. You can get a Beatles-style guitar for $100. RB2 is another $60, so the total would be about $410.
Another options, there's a good deal right now with the full RB1 set and RB2 for $80. Then getting just the Beatles game will put the total to $140. One more guitar (I recommend the RB2 wireless guitar) and your total will be $210. However, you will have the older, wired drumset and one wired guitar.
If that's a concern, then you can get the regular RB2 bundle $140, Beatles for $60, and one extra guitar for $60. Total $260. And then you'll just have to borrow/rent RB1.
In terms of quality: RB1 instruments are wired, RB2 are wireless (and the guitar has a small camera that helps calibrate the game with your TV, which is useful), and Beatles:RB are mostly the same as RB2, but styled to look like the original Beatles instruments.
https://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Accessories-Wireless-Arcade-Playstation-2/dp/B0006NAB9Q
I bought this from GameStop for like $20 back in 2006 I think. It was a wireless Pelican stick for the PS2. It was terrible. The wireless didn't even work, there was lag all the time. The stick and buttons were trash. I think the ball top was actually hollow inside. It ran on 4 AA batteries. The only good thing about it is that it had a circle gate, which is my preferred gate because that's what most American arcades run. I ended up selling it.
https://www.amazon.com/XBOX-Injustice-Gods-Among-Battle/dp/B00CF3AKLY
I actually do have the Injustice: Gods Among Us PS3 stick. It isn't bad, I do enjoy it. I do like the bat top, and I like how the buttons light up when I press them. And it has Batman, Superman, and the Joker on it. It does feel cheap, but it is a fun novelty to have. It has a square gate which I didn't really like. I mostly play on game pads anyway.
Glad you all like it, I'm really pleased with it, the shell was hydro dipped and the sticks are from amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JUWPKG8?pc_redir=1408741023&robot_redir=1
You can get replacement thumb sticks from Amazon or Ebay, I haven't found any OEM ones but they look pretty much the same. I bought a set of the gray sticks as well as a set of the black sticks from Amazon.
I had one of these that i used for awhile. It worked pretty well except the triggers were either at 0% or 100% with no in between.
Starting using my official wireless 360 controller with this. It's much more responsive
Just to show you guys what the controllers you're talking about actually look like:
Razer Onza:
http://www.razerzone.com/minisite/onza - 39.99$
Hori:
http://www.amazon.com/Hori-Controller-EX-Turbo-Xbox-360/dp/B000HS0Y6K - 30.00$
Microsoft xbox controller:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-Black/dp/B003ZSN600 - 30.00$
There's a couple more types of controllers but these are the main ones. Hope this helps!
I just bought this and this and I'm about to do this to try to clean the heat sink of my PS4 in hopes of quieting it down. Apparently this worked for a lot of people. I'm tired of my ps4 sounding like a jet engine
Definitely was a better controller than the regular one.
This is one of my favorite ones
But, sadly, Windows 10 no longer recognizes it so I use an Xbox One controller now.
Much better. I have both and the F710 is collecting dust. The analog sticks on it are just horrible. I actually bought this one. Tron Xbox 360 The rubber grips and light weight are awesome. I paid 40 for it at gamestop.
I'm a big advocate for the 360 controller. Native widows support is always a plus. $15 on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F87CZ2Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_OX61Bb4DRKK36
I vouch for this fix. The only one that worked for me. It sucks that you don't have the ability to manually eject the discs but you can still eject them by clicking on the game in the PS4 main menu and selecting "eject disc".
Also to make things easier I suggest getting a torx t8 screwdriver from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TATRU8M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nNI6ybA8ZBHNMP
Sony will want about $100 to fix the issue that's really a manufacturing defect.
>Do you guys know where I can find controllers for cheap?
No but I know someone who does.
On a less snarky note, I bought this at Wal-Mart for my son about four months ago and he hasn't broken it yet.
Literally 3 seconds in Google.

Just the XBone - white
Try these? they're fairly cheap.
thrustmaster Ferrari 458 racing wheel Xbox 360
Madcatz Wireless Racing Wheel Xbox 360
After that, they get a bit more pricey ($200-250)
try these
I have four of these for co-op stuff. They work fine with no drivers on my pc.
The link i have sent is actually fairly expensive, not sure why. I picked mine up for £15 or less from asda so shop around.
