Oh my gosh, you are totally asking the right person. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is one of the best books that has ever existed. Not only that, but it's a series! Also, my username is taken from the first page of the book, so that must mean that it's good. It's got suspense, kids with powers, and some horror themes. It's just overall a great book. PLEASE check it out!
Another good book series is the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. The final book is coming out this year, so I'm excited!
Why stop there? Another great book is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. It will break your heart, but in a good way. It's a beautifully written book. I'm not sure what genre you like, but it reminded me of the genre of books like The Fault in Our Stars and Everything, Everything.
Another great series is The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken. Not only is a great series, but there's also a movie coming out in August that's based off the books! Better get reading. ;)

Oh boy, you shouldn't have asked. It's the most expensive thing on my wishlist, and it's beautiful. I know, I know, it's a book, but it's more than that! It's a HUGE book with photographs from my favorite, most-loved movie series! Seriously. Words cannot describe how cool of a book it is. And there's a limited number of them made, and there's only 3 left in stock. But I digress. It's not what one would consider useful, but it sure is awesome.
Wait, what's that? I haven't mentioned Kylo Ren in 2 minutes? Oh boy, better change that. Yes, I love Kylo Ren. I'm aware that is a touchy subject with people. I don't care. I have a shrine in my room for Kylo Ren. This pillow is not what most people would call necessary, though honestly I would probably beg to differ.
Pretty much everyone can agree that Funko Pops aren't necessary, but they are so much fun oh my gosh. Like, for instance, this somewhat expensive yet cool Darth Vader Pop.

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
I love movies. With a passion. But my favorite movies of all time, are The Hunger Games movies. If that wasn't evident by the massive expensive book above, then I don't know what is. But honestly, they're great movies. I know they're not for everyone, but they hold a special place in my heart.
Someone recently gifted me Moulin Rouge, and honestly it is so good. So, I also, of course, recommend that. It has singing, great vocalists, great songs, and a great plot. It also has Ewan McGregor, so what's not to like?
I saw Logan (the final Wolverine movie in theaters, and it is such a beautiful movie. Very sad, but very beautiful. The best Wolverine movie in my opinion. 10/10 would watch/cry again.
Another great futuristic movie is V for Vendetta. It's a well-known movie, and it's very good.
If you're into horror, I love the most recent Carrie movie. I know it's not for everyone, but I really liked it.

I mean, I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but this bat would make a great weapon in the apocalypse. Also, if you're into leading an army and "saving" people, this bat will probably get you there. (Ahem I totally didn't just buy this bat for myself cough.)
Not sure if bright green is the way to go in the apocalypse, but I'm sure a bow and arrow set would keep you alive for a little bit. Especially if you happen to be Daryl Dixon (though I guess he technically has a crossbow... I digress).
Don't try and tell me that in the apocalypse you won't get peckish. Everyone knows that snacks will be the first to go. Better stock up on those sweet, sweet snacks.

I don't have much on my wishlist that I desperately want, but this is a staff I would quite like because I'm still trying to learn what my SO does, but the one I have is a small twirling one rather than a full size staff and I'd love to have one if my own eventually.

And this is a compound bow that I would definitely say is something I've wanted to try since I was a kid, it's just hard because I dot really have the space to use it which sucks. Archer us definitely something I'd love to get into though.

Now, I never really like to tell people what they ought to try unless they express an interest in the first place, but honestly, if you're after a new hobby, both archery and circus are really fun, awesome and pretty badass hobbies to say you have. My SO breathes fire - I mean, how awesome does that sound?! But of course, it's entirely up to you :) neither of these are super expensive (the super 3 pensive stuff would be camera equipment, but I keep that off wishlists so I don't get sad I can't afford them), so give them a try if you wanna :D

You have a lot of options to go on the cheap. I mean actually cheap. They won't feel premium or awe inspiring but you can still get quite good (I'm currently retraining myself to use thumb, so I have both those bows below but I have the 18lbs version of the snake)
You can try the famous Snake Bow, or the Youth Titan Bow, Both capable of being drawn to 31" safely, both capable of shooting on the left or right side. Perfect for finding your particular style before choosing better equipment. Both have a reputation of being tanks in terms of durability.

As for arrows, there are a lot of amazon sellers, with 25~30lbs being the kind of weight you want to start with, most of the sellers on amazon give you okay-ish arrows to start, I wouldn't get the cheapest option but if I had to choose, I'd get these. Do not expect to be splitting arrows though.


If you chose those 3 options, that's about 100$ leaving 50$ for a tab, back quiver or target bag. Tab/target bag should be the higher priority, all 3 would be best.


These bows and arrows I linked are for, real budget entry level "I've never shot a bow before" archers. Easy enough to pull, forgiving and more forgiving on the wallet.

I picked up this bow. You can't use it for hunting as the draw weight is only 25lbs at its highest. But if you just want to do some target practice for fun. Great bow.

Before I bought a bow I went to a local range and tried archery to know for sure if I actually liked it and also got a little beginners class on form and practice.

I got some arrows, a field target bag for my back yard, and a metal drop away arrow rest (the plastic ones break like right away).

I probably spent about $275 but haven't spent a dime since.

I love to go out back and relax and shoot. I listen to a podcast, play some music. Love that I can do something outdoors that is relaxing.

Highly recommend.

I own a 45 lb laminated Kaiyuan II from AliBow, as well as a fiberglass Turkish 25 lb (bought as a training bow for my wife).


At lower poundages, which I'd say is 35 and below, the fiberglass bows are hard to beat: They're not as fast as the laminated bows, but they're nearly indestructible and just as accurate.


However, when you get over 40 lbs they are not a good buy IMO: you WILL get some meaningful hand shock as you get in the 45-50 lb range, because the amount of fiberglass needed to get that kind of draw weight is a lot heavier, and the distribution of material is different, than the laminated versions.


The best compromise, by far, is the laminated AF Archery Turkish bow. You can read my review on that page, it's still one of my favorite bows: Fast, accurate, and by far the smallest and lightest of my bows.


That includes my AliBow Kaiyuan II and my Jackal Archery Assyrian (my personal favorite overall): I love my Jackal, it is by far the easiest of the 3 bows to shoot accurately and precisely. The speed is nearly identical to the AF Archery Turkish bow at an average of 190 FPS using 10GPP and a 28" draw, and both are very appropriate for mounted archery... but the AF is 175 US Dollars and the Jackal is 350 Euros not including shipping.

Based on your location and price range, you should really get your wife a fiberglass Turkish or Kaiyuan (or whatever, but those are their two most efficient designs and the Turkish is the easiest to shoot consistently) from AliBow.

Eventually, if she really loves that style of bow, you can get your wife a custom-engraved Jackal Archery Assyrian or Turkish... can't do better than that, my wife loves hers.

Having an easy time with a bow at a shop is quite normal, it was the same when I bought my first recurve. It'll be a completely different story after you've shot it for an hour or two. Speaking as a 25 y/o man who is built like a bear, it's best not to underestimate the physical strain of taking repeated shots over a long period of time; the machismo isn't worth it. Unless you actively go to the gym and include thorough back and shoulder exercises in your routine, you're probably going to be sore as shit after shooting a 20+# recurve for a good while, assuming you don't have to stop early. If you're not careful, overbowing can even lead to injury. To put it into perspective, I've seen a number of grown men, who clearly hit the gym several times a week, rubbing their sore arms after just 90 minutes of shooting a 20# recurve. Good back conditioning and shooting form are critical for not only accuracy but safely and comfortably shooting a bow, and those take practice to develop. I'll refer you to one of Nusensei's videos on the topic, he has some of the best archery related resources on the internet, including on many of the topics I've explained here. Whatever draw weight you ultimately choose, and I do recommend starting low, make sure to pay attention to your body and form, pace yourself, and don't shoot to the point of injury.

You can get higher poundage with a full size target recurve too, it's not just a hunting recurve thing, and there are more important points to consider when choosing a bow. If you want a challenge, traditional shooting and barebow take a lot of practice to get decent results (I actually shoot barebow myself), but every form of archery is difficult as you'll take more difficult shots appropriate for your accuracy. Archery is a sport about overcoming yourself, you can always make it harder.

That WOARCHERY bow appears to be functionally equivalent to most fiberglass youth bows, albeit a little prettier. It's the sort of thing you'd find in camps or similar situations where the #1 priority is price with an utter disregard for performance. For the price you'd be better off with a Mandarin Duck Windrunner or Phantom, as those will perform how a real bow should, rather than being a glorified toy in a bow-like form.

Keep in mind that you're going to need arrows to match your bow, as well as an armguard and finger tab if you don't already own one. Recurves are more prone to string slapping your forearm when your form is bad as compared to compounds, and with the full draw weight on your fingers, damage is a very real possibility without protection; you can get away without a tab using light bows, but it's more comfortable to use one, and past 25# you can consider it mandatory.

Cheap brand name arrows cost a few dollars each, those will be perfectly adequate, and since you're just shooting in your backyard you won't need to get a full set. As for the armguard and finger tab, go for the el cheapo's here as well, a couple of dollars will get you something adequate; if you're the DIY sort you could even make your own.

For the style you want, you probably want a thumbring. They can take some getting used to. Get arrows with fletches, not vanes. Wrist/arm guards are highly useful.

Hey guys, so I have been interested in starting archery. I have always been interested in bow and arrows growing up but never got fully involved but I want to. So I've been doing a little bit of research and figured the best bow for me at this point is a recurved bow. I only want to just shoot like targets and stuff outside my house and I figured it would be a good way to relieve stress. I looked online, specifically Amazon, and saw this bow. I plan on using a left handed bow since I'm left-handed and left eye dominant and a 35lb bow sounds good for me to start. My question now is what do I do from here? Should I get a different bow? What kind of arrows should I get with the bow?

As cliche as it is, look at the Samick Sage. Easy to get, cheap, but a great first bow, especially if you wanna try out different limb weights. It isn't fancy but it's solid and a great way to find out what you like.

First of all, /r/archery is a fantastic resource.

It's best to join a club, that way you don't have to buy any gear. The people there will also help you improve.

If you can't join a club, or if you know for a fact you want to seriously take this on, then I'd recommend buying a wooden recurve bow for about $150, such as this one. Edit: I'd recommend only getting a 25-30 pound draw weight to start out with. Too heavy of a bow will make it near-impossible to learn.

/r/Archery and youtube can help a lot, so if you can't find anyone to teach you, not all hope is lost. I personally have never had a lesson, I learned everything I know from the internet.

Thanks! The crossbow is a center point sniper 370. It comes with a great 4x32mm scope, which was very accurate and easy to sight in. It also comes with a rope cocker, quiver, and a couple bolts. It also has an adjustable stock like a AR-15. It was very cheap for a crossbow and performs like a high end one, probably the best crossbow out there for the price. Okay, since you are talking about priorities, we all know the zombie apocalypse is near. In order to protect you and your own I really think you need to buy this Archery Set Not only is it cool, but it will be useful for the zombie apocalypse. In the meantime you can practice and use it as a great stress reliever after a hard day at work.

For myself I really think you should get me the Speed Resistance Training Parachute Again need to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. I need to brush up on my speed and stamina so I can run away from zombie hoards. Also my girlfriend and I would have a blast taking turns wind sprinting...ya know

It depends on which kit you mean, in my home kit I have a compound bow just because I'm good with it and its efficient, no way it would work for edc but I think could be a great asset in a car kit. I assume you are talking about a bow like this one http://amzn.to/1xmHZeV

MI hunter here. I picked up a Sniper 370 as a starter bow for the exact same reason. It shoots like a rifle and is very easy to use. Buy some good bolts and it's super accurate out to 50yds.

No idea about long time use or how it compares to expensive bows but it's a nice cheap place to start.

The bag obviously isn't great quality, but the bigger issue are those gloves. They look like old school bag gloves that offer almost no protection. Get quality leather bag gloves from ringside or title. Gel bag gloves weigh more so keep that in mind as well if you go with that option.

A water filled bag like THIS is more affordable since you don't have to pay to ship 100lb.

The most important thing is that you learn to wrap your hands properly and punch with correct form. Without doing so you're going to injure your hands and wrists constantly.

What's up with all of these air cannon things? If I can't use a ladder I climb. If I can't climb I use my hunting bow.

Now sure I wouldn't have bought that for only launching antennas (a bit spendy for that purpose). But you can pull off the same thing with a $40 quasi-toy version of a bow and a coule of cheap arrows. In fact, it would be easier to use one of those than a 65 lb draw compound that you need to release before it breaks (or you'll end up shooting so high you'll need FAA approval first).

I'm sure there are those who will scoff, but I still love my Samick Sage.

Cabelas had this for $225 not too long ago. Incredible value. i shot my buddy's and it's a surprisingly nice unit. I have a wicked ridge invader g3, very nice unit, but not worth 2X the cost of the centerpoint to be honest.

When I was a kid, I used to make bows out of branches and fishing line until my parents bought me a red fiberglass recurve with about a 20 pound pull and some aluminum arrows, and a foam target. It was awesome and cheap. I think something along those lines wouldn't be a bad starting point (even for an adult just looking for some fun) and inexpensive as well. I wouldn't shoot at cans, by the way. Your arrows would probably pass through and it would mess up the fletching/vanes. And you would be spending a lot of time looking for arrows that slid under the turf.

To draw the crossbow requires 185 pounds of force to pull the string back 18 inches to set it. It’s not too bad because you stand on the front end and can use your whole body, and the string they give you acts as a pulley system so you’re not drawing that full weight directly.

I suggest you do your own research as I didn't do much before I made my purchase and I think I should have spent more and bought something a bit better. I've heard Bass Pro Shops has great service when trying to pick a bow.

If you are buying, I recommend the accessories. This gets pricey but they are worth it. I don't know all the terms but there's a forearm protector as well as a little thing you can put on your fingers to protect those. I skipped them at first and ended up buying after going out a few times. My forearm was raw and my fingers hurt. As for arrows, buying a bunch in bulk on Amazon will lead to crappy arrows that don't fly well. I've tried a few. All junk. The $7 Eastons are the only arrows I've liked. Be prepared to destroy and lose a few :) Especially if you are taking your kids...

The limbs are plastic/fiberglass. The bow comes pre-strung, so a lot of its power was already gone because the limbs bended from the weight

Unless you've got very short arms, that bow's draw is going to be far too short for you. You'll be over-drawing it pretty far, which leads to more stress on the limbs (again, the plastic/fiberglass limbs!) which could either lead to more warping or the limbs will explode from being over drawn (too much stress from being over drawn!)

If under $50 is your price range, I'd recommend this one:

but not sure if its for you. pros: rain/the outdoors will do nothing to it, its variable weight, cheap shipping cons:its not the most durable, the stitching on side gave out after about a year or less although it hasnt affected its use since the rubber hasnt broken its mainly aesthetics. side note its much softer than a regular bag which is up to you if that's negative or not. i personally like it because ive had hand problems and most times i dont even have to use handwraps. i really love this bag honestly.

Nothing's wrong with fiberglass. I'm implying that cheap fiberglass bows, such as this one, generally aren't very good. There's a huge difference between a $150 wooden takedown bow and a $50 fiberglass "recurve" that feels like plastic.
